2681  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Are HDD minable alt coins profitable at all? on: November 22, 2015, 02:32:09 PM
the other two are dead is seems, burst is the only one, it was profitable at launch now not anymore, they should do a coin like this based on the speed of the hd disk instead of the capacity
we could reduce the consumption even farther and less space and ram for the computer, i'm waiting for it to be released

Burst was decent but storage mining is way too centralized considering how some businesses have massive amounts of storage at their disposal.

And the problem with decentralized storage like Storj is that it requires decent upload bandwith which is an issue for most people.
2682  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Monacoin rpc port. on: November 22, 2015, 02:11:01 PM
So it's a problem with wallet? That's why it will not go?

Likely, but I'm not 100% sure as I'm not familiar with sgminer.
2683  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Monacoin rpc port. on: November 22, 2015, 12:16:05 PM
Can't help you there as I'm not familiar with sgminer but what I will say is that mona has the only wallet that I can't solomine to with ccminer. It won't connect because it seem to use a different RPC/JSON protocol or something like that.
2684  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Monacoin rpc port. on: November 22, 2015, 12:00:55 PM
Hi, I need help with monacoin algo Lyra2REv2. I want solo mining through sgminer . I do not know rpc port and p2p port in monacoin.conf. Does anyone advise me? Well thank you.

RPC ports doesn't matter, you can use whatever unused port you wish, you just need to use the same port in the miner.

I noticed that exporting transaction history crashes the wallet 100% of the time. Anyone else noticed that or can confirm it?
2686  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: CCminer(SP-MOD) Modded NVIDIA Maxwell kernels. on: November 22, 2015, 12:58:17 AM
What are the default intensities for x11 on a 980 ti??
Thanks
Is it the same as lyraRev2?

22 for 5.0+ cards across the board and 19.5 for older cards if I'm not mistaken:

Quote from: x11.cu
uint32_t intensity = (device_sm[device_map[thr_id]] > 500) ? 256 * 256 * 22 : 256 * 128 * 39;

It'd be nice though if ccminer would show the instensity upon launch even if the -i parameter isn't used.

2688  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is your opinion about [CANN] Cannabiscoin? on: November 21, 2015, 09:19:07 AM
Cann's volume is practically non-existent at least compared to what it was.

And of course weed is getting legal in most places and where it's illegal you can't ship it there safely so weedcoins doesn't offer anything extra over FIAT or other established generic cryptos so I think it's safe to say the era of weedcoins is over and it's not likely they'll come back anytime soon.
2689  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: CCminer(SP-MOD) Modded NVIDIA Maxwell kernels. on: November 21, 2015, 09:12:53 AM
So perhaps this is a bit off topic, but you guys seem like a knowledge group. Are the 750 ti's the most power efficient of the of the Maxwell cards? Thanks.

It greatly depends on where you live; for me the 970s are the best choice by far even if I only go for 4 x 970 per rig, but of course I also add 2 x 750 Ti.
While a 6 card 750 Ti rig looks great on paper, you can't really disregard the price of the whole PC itself (mb+cpu+memory+hdd+psu) which all adds up, disrupting the efficiency/ROI of a 6x750Ti rig. But of course YMMV.

ill be building a 6 x gigabyte 980ti g1 miner very shortly ( when the funds allow ) and will have the results in comparison to the 6 x gigabyte 750ti oc lp miner ...

this should give an indication ( hashrate also ) of how efficient these two machines are ... admittedly - ccminer-spmod - it will be a huge hashrate difference - but power efficiency will be the question with this - not hashrate ...

i am actually hardpressed to believe that the 6 x gigabyte 750ti oc lp miner would not be more efficient than the 6 x gigabyte 980ti g1 system ... even if all the computer power consumption is taken into effect ...

obviously this is not using the 970 as you specified - but i dont think thefarm will be upgraded to the 970 card - so i couldnt test that anyway ...

#crysx

As I said it depends on how much you can get your hands on certain cards. To me for example a 980 Ti rig (or even just a 980 non-Ti rig) would be suicidal. And then again putting 6 of those cards into one rig would require a very pricey PSU unless you don't care about RMA time or resell value, or don't mind using two PSUs which I personally refuse to do.

In my personal case 960s are sligthly more efficient than 970s and 750 Ti's but I decided to only use 2 types of cards in order to simplify things so I'm only buying 970s and 750 Ti's until Pascal comes along which allows me to know the efficiency of the cards depending on the algo without having to calculate it. More cards would just complicate things.

understood ...

the psu count IS a pain in the backside - especially due to the fact that not is it more power - but a lot more space required to run them ...

thefarm itself being upgraded to the 980ti g1 is highly unlikely ... ONE miner for testing and high level hashing - possibly ...

i too am waiting on the pascal chips / architecture to hit the market - but even then - the cost would be iitially a great deal until they settle in the market and drop to a price for general use ...

so you think the 960 cards are better value? ... ill look into this and see what we can get them for here in australia ...

tanx bathrobehero ...

btw - i have not ever really looked heavily into the resale value of any of the cards - as you can never really get back anywhere near what was originally paid for them ... i usually average it out at less than half of the original cost for resale - IF i ever resell them ...

#crysx

Resell value is important to me since I realised how much the 780 Ti's dropped when Maxwell arrived and how much of a stigma is associated with GPUs used for mining (mostly because of careless AMD miners) which I always disclose.
I built up a reputable seller status on a couple of sites and I always take good care of my cards (low temp target, no +voltage, no max fan speeds, regular maintenance, etc) so if things rapidly change I can get rid of all my cards fairly easily.

Using 2 PSUs with USB powered risers + http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Add2PSU-Multiple-Power-Supply-Adapter/1743678544.html?spm=2114.01020208.3.2.oKvSMv&ws_ab_test=searchweb201556_2_79_78_77_80,searchweb201644_5,searchweb201560_9 is very simple and secure in my eyes.

I've been using this setup for something like half year.

I just don't feel comfortable using two PSUs with one rig even if it's reportedly mostly safe. In fact I tend to spend way too much on high quality PSUs but they tend to keep their value pretty well so it's not that much of a loss long term (especially if you get a beast with 10 years of warranty).
I'm planning to look into some server grade PSUs since even high capacity ones are dirt cheap comperatively (just take a look at ebay for example). A friend of mine with an oscilloscope already offered to check them out for their power delivery quality but I'm at the limit of what I can currently draw so it'll have to wait. Though, I'm curious if anyone ever used server grade high capacity PSUs for mining.

If the algo is a non-asic nonsense (sha-256, scrypt, x11) then I'll probably like this.
2693  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: LiteCoin Install Problems on: November 20, 2015, 04:44:43 PM

I downloaded the LiteCoin wallet and installed it. At that time it asked for a data directory location which I selected.

At this point I realized my selection was a mistake and I uninstalled it and deleted all the files.

I then reinstalled it only to find that this time it did not ask me for a data directory location and I ended up now with
a repeat of what I just had.

Again, I uninstalled it and deleted all the files.

I posted this message on the litecoin website several days ago and have not received an answer.

How can I correct this?

It saves the location into the registry (probably in user\current\software\litecoin") which it doesn't remove when you uninstall it.

Good youtube video...I'm going to try that. Smiley

EDIT: No green wire...all black.  Roll Eyes  Cheesy
Got to get the schematic  of course not supplied  to do this.
Ps for all you young people  they use to supply the schematics for every piece of electronics you would buy.

Some PSUs come with a dummy plug:

but as said above it's the same for all PSUs; it's always the 4th wire connected to any of the ground wires.

I noticed that the wallet is sometimes 'hanging'
When i have it open and browse around in the menu, or settings, it would suddenly become unresponsive. Immediately the connected clients stop mining, as they cannot rech the wallet anymore. But after a little while, it gets going again and clients normally resume mining.
Never encountered a crash or something. (AMD FX990 chipset/Win7 64 bit)

It did the same to me (getting very unresponsive after a while) but only in Sandboxie. Now that I have the wallet running on one of the mining rigs with a throwaway OS without Sandboxie, it's running perfectly fine for days.
2696  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: CCminer(SP-MOD) Modded NVIDIA Maxwell kernels. on: November 20, 2015, 01:31:14 AM
Crazy question - could i run (2) algos on the same rig in (2) separate instances.  For example - (1) instance running X11 and (1) instance running (Skein2) on the same cards?  What are the draw backs if any?  I checked power consumption and there doesn't seem to be a change in power draw.  Just wondering if I can break my rig that way? Thanks - pokeytex

Can't break your rigs that way but likely the driver will crash sooner or later. Or one algo will probably dominate the other so the hashrate won't be equal.

Depending on what you want to achieve you might be better off dedicating a couple of cards to one algo and the rest of them to another.
Or you could just use a batch file which switches between the two algos periodically or as a failover.

2698  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: CCminer(SP-MOD) Modded NVIDIA Maxwell kernels. on: November 18, 2015, 01:32:26 PM
having the powered risers AND the molex connectors on the motherboard at the same time? ...

all the cards have a 2.5cm gap between them on the aluminium rail i built for them in the unit ... however - that is changing to a more compact designed frame with rapid airflow in a closed system ( open initially for testing ) ...

#crysx

That's real close, even if the direction of the airflow on the cards is favorable.  I'm using 8cm gaps even between 750 Ti's which might be overkill but at least they don't throttle (65°C temp target) even in the summer at around 80% max fan speed curve.

anyone know the rpcport to solo-mine MONA ?

RCP ports doesn't matter, it's whatever you give it as long as you point the miner to it.
But don't waste too much time trying to solomine Mona because it uses a different JSON/RPC protocol or something like that because ccminer can't communicate with it:

< HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found
< Connection: close
< Content-Length: 76
< Content-Type: application/json
< Server: monacoin-json-rpc/v0.10.2.2-3dc2e6a-hotfix
<
* Closing connection 0

JSON protocol response:
{
   "error": {
      "code": -32601,
      "message": "Method not found"
   },
   "result": null,
   "id": 0
}

JSON-RPC call failed: Method not found
json_rpc_call failed, retry after x seconds

Mona source: https://github.com/monacoinproject/monacoin/blob/master-0.10/src/rpcserver.cpp#L982

I always only solomine so I asked sp_, djm and tpruvot about it but it's not something they're interested in investigating.
2700  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Could the PCI X16 72 core Processor bring killer hashrates? on: November 17, 2015, 08:59:23 PM
Nah, GPUs have thousands of streaming processors and are better suited for hashing except for maybe a couple of algos.

And I'd imagine this thing will cost a fortune compared to GPUs.
