2701  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why do Atheists hate Religion ? on: June 02, 2015, 10:29:57 PM
But since its fun let me initiate my own brand of 'why do' topic.

WHY DO ATHEISTS (like me) HATE RELIGION ?

Quite simple. If you believe and God exists, you'll be rewarded. If God doesn't exist, you lose nothing. Therefore believing is more optimal strategy in life (and beyond), which atheists simply can't agree with and humbly resign themselves to...

The problem with Pascal's Wager is that it only takes into account one particular version of god, it is a False Dichotomy fallacy, a god may exist and he can not care if one believes in it for example.

That was the only condition that I put forward further, that God does indeed care whether people believe in him or not (in positive sense). If he does, then not believing at all is an unreservedly losing strategy (all other things unknown). Even if it turns out in the end that you believed in the wrong God (which you don't know a priori)...

Strictly speaking, an indifferent supreme deity shouldn't be called God in the first place

Even so, it doesn't make it better, because there are a lot of gods that do care if people believe in them or not, the best bet continues to be not taking sides.

Signed up today to give it a try. Really not happy about the fact they display a big ad promoting their own business on my site, but dont give a single satoshi even for thousands of visits. I'll give it another day or so, will abandon bee ads if this continues beyond that.

Always read the FAQ when registering in a new service:

Quote
How does it work?

Answer:
Bee-Ads bid system is quite straightforward. It is based on pay-per-24 hours model. Advertiser will decide the amount he wants to pay for 24 hours campaign and he place the relevant bid for an ad-slot time. If he is alone he has a guarancy of all views/clicks from this ad-slot. If there is more bids for the same ad-slot, he receives the relevant portion of views and higher is his share, higher is the chance to get clicks as well. Advertiser can as well put highest bid to beat all competitors for an ad-slot (for example he receives 75% of time share) but he has funds only for limited time (3 hours lets say). Then during next 3 hours he receives 75% of views and after his funds diminish to zero, his bid is terminated. So advertisers can place "short-time aggressive bid". Publishers get funds from bids transferred continously to their balance.

The possibilities for the existence of gods are pretty much endless, if you want to make a wager based on that, the less riskier bet is to not take sides, if the true god ends up to be the Korubo's god at least when you meet it you can say you have taken no sides, if that particular god cares about that....

There are many victims because cryptsy especially about withdraw without 2FA or identity verification
If you keep contacting them & proof that you are the owner of that account, you will able get your bitcoin. But, it could take few weeks Sad
Seems to me this is their trick, if one wants to withdraw large ammounts they ask you for your security question if you dont remember this one they take your cash.

If you don't 'remember' maybe the account is not yours...
2706  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Any exchange offering a unique IBAN for account? on: June 02, 2015, 09:36:14 PM
Bank accounts don't work like bitcoin addresses, you cannot generate a new one for each transaction. Smiley
2707  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What will happen to Bitcoin year after 2140 ? on: June 02, 2015, 09:30:26 PM
Some other method of securing the network will be developed and mining as is today will not be required, probably.

Actually I believe this may happen much sooner than 2140 because mining may just become not profitable enough and the network will become vulnerable if another method is not implemented.
2708  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Cryptsy Problems Bitcoins frozen on: June 01, 2015, 01:41:35 PM
It looks like a hacking prevention measure, you see a lot of people bitching around because their accounts got hacked and they didn't even had 2FA on, good to see Cryptsy is being proactive trying to secure users' funds.

You must be Full Member (120 Activity) in order to do that:

Avatars
Full Member and up only.
It must be no more than 120px wide, 80px tall, and 100 KiB in size. It must be a PNG, GIF, or JPEG image. It must be safe for work.

And what qualifies me for full member status?

Activity:

The activity number is determined in this way:
time = number of two-week periods in which you've posted since your registration
activity = min(time * 14, posts)

Rough summary of what this means: If you post once per day on average, then you will eventually get the maximum number of activity points that you can get. Posting more than once per day on average is useless for increasing activity. The maximum number of activity points you can get is 1 per day, but your activity score only updates every two weeks. Therefore, it will take about 100 days to get 100 activity if you post once per day on average.

Activity is updated every hour.

The new membergroup limits work like this:
GroupRequirement
Brand New0 posts
Newbie(none)
Jr. Memberactivity: 30
Memberactivity: 60
Full Memberactivity: 120
Sr. Memberactivity: 240
Hero Memberactivity: 480

I'm not 100% sure that the membergroups work correctly. Tell me if you see any bugs.

Firewall Warning (NOTE  This starts popping up about 1 minute after I open the utility and it starts to download the blockchain)

The coins have been sitting in this wallet unued since 2013....no activity.....I just recently decided to move them to a different computer so I need to download the latest blockchain so I could prosess a transfer.    During the downloiad I got hacked.....the download never completed and I did not try to make a transfer

How did you move the coins?

Did you use the backup when you first installed the client or you used a backup made after all those transactions? Do you still have access to the previous wallet?

You may have lost the change address, if so, 4 bitcoins are lost.

To 'move' your litecoins you just need to backup your wallet.dat, it's exactly the same as bitcoin.

All I know is the balance was 5 and now its 0....if I open up the lightcoin wallet the balance is 147.....so Im reading the balance correctly.  Something has changed within the wallet.  The unconfimed number is 5.......SO.......are they gone.......?  and how do I get the other lightcoins off of my computer without having the same thing happen to me

Is Bitcoin Core already synced with the network?

If 1PyQYiNNCD5B19UDxuTQf4x6qodk83rHy is a change address you have 5 bitcoins, but I believe if that was so you should see the address in 'Receive Coins' tab.

The transaction is confirmed since 2013...
2713  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: stolen bitcoins from Bitcoin Core on: May 31, 2015, 06:50:49 PM
Thanks so much for your help

At "recive Coins"  it only showed one address  (Below)

17SZMZY1N7ZQBR55Xn9DuSPMtmxsVgJfY4

It did not list the five bitcoins separately.  The wallet previously said "Balance" 5  it now says Balance 0

Also...not sure what you mean by  "Have you open/decrypt the wallet on that computer"

If you did so, your password could have been capture by a keylogger.

Your address has 1 bitcoin, last transaction out was 8 bitcoins distributed in 2 addresses:

2714  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Anti-fork guys: What is YOUR proposal? on: May 31, 2015, 06:41:07 PM
I dont think we'll see many replies here, people are too busing making fud threads while not proposing any solution. Then again, what gentlemand said is a problem, if we'll need more and more forks it doesnt sound good. Hopefully if they make a fork, it's a fork that is self adaptive to this problem so we don't need to ever fork again.

the proposed alternative are not good enough, hence the only solution is to go ahead and making this change, other 4 devs are worried that in the future it might be necessary to fork again because 20mb would not be enough, but with 20MB we are in the same boat as visa or mastercard(if i'm not mistaken, don't remember they number of transaction per second), talking about transaction per second, worse case we should do 30 mb right now

that is the reason why we should make an automatic increase. dont forget, we are winning time (years) and other solutions will be developed too!

how deal with people that "forget" to upgrade their clients or can only do it at a high cost?

Serious financial software can't be upgraded every day

That's why Gavin already began this discussion, because it will take many months for the majority of the network to upgrade, that's the thing with distributed networks, one has to plan it way ahead.

2716  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: stolen bitcoins from Bitcoin Core on: May 31, 2015, 06:24:35 PM
how do I locate an address?

At 'Receive Coins' you'll find your addresses.

Have you open/decrypt the wallet in that computer?
2717  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Anti-fork guys: What is YOUR proposal? on: May 31, 2015, 06:18:56 PM
Blocksize, as is today, already cannot deal with all bitcoin transactions, you forgot many transactions already happen off chain, in Coinbase, Xapo, Bitpay, etc, not only within their service but between services that already have an agreement.

We don't need one solution, we need several solutions to scale Bitcoin to compete with Paypal, Visa and Mastercards of the world.

We can have 20 MB blocks and we can have the Lightning Network and we can have off chain transactions, because we need all of those if we're gonna scale to the moon.
2718  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who holds the alert keys? on: May 30, 2015, 09:49:37 PM
Does anyone have a list of all of the people that hold the alert key's private key? I know that Gavin and Satoshi both have it since Satoshi gave it to Gavin. Also, according to https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Alerts, theymos also has the key. Does anyone know who else has the alert key?

I'm asking this because of the possibility of Gavin using the alert key to abuse the alert system and broadcast to everyone that they need to switch to his fork. If other people hold the key, then this kind of abuse of the alert system can be mitigated because they can send out alerts which cancel Gavin's.

or Gavin could kill all other devs and execute the masterplan  Smiley

come on, seriously?

You mean order 66?  Cheesy

It doesn't have to be bitcoin-only, it can just be another another payment option and the best one as it is not reversible, porn sites have huge losses with payment reversal.
