2701  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NXT mythbusters on: January 18, 2014, 11:47:00 PM
so 70% of bitcoins are held by 2-3% of the userbase?  It's no surprise a vocal group of people are pumping it then... if I had 1000 bitcoins I'd be selling 900 of them and converting them to physical bullion personally. Pigs get slaughtered, as they say... no way so many coins in so few hands is a healthy market.  It's no different than our fractional reserve systems of today where the top 1% control a huge percentage of the wealth.

I think I've made a decision here... I'm not going to help the 2% get even richer by promoting a system so top heavy at this point... once a coin is out that isn't a 'for profit' coin and is more evenly distributed I'll start mentioning crypto currencies more.

So how is Bitcoin better?

Bitcoin is open source...  peer reviewed and vetted.

NXT is closed source.
2702  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Thread: AMT on: January 18, 2014, 11:21:43 PM

Yes its another expense most wouldn't choose to do, but we feel keeping production of these miners local, rather than outsourcing everything to china like most, will pay off in the end. Everything, less our lian li cases and the chip is now produced in America, by Americans.

AMT

WTF??? It was not supposed to be the chips from Bitmine (Switzerland)HuhHuh
Again we have confusing misleading info.

"less" our "lian li" cases and "the chip" is now produced in America, by Americans.

Now I do hope that the design of the logic board is the same design that is developed by Bitmine.ch  .

The good news is that the logic boards and the smt placements aren't a bottleneck here.

Now if they can shorten the entire delivery lifecycle by not even including the case... have them ship it like they ship those asic miner boards... just give instructions on how to apply power and connect to a computer!!!!

Heck... if I were them... I would simplify the entire process by just shipping finished boards!!  Kind of like how NewEgg just sells motherboards.
2703  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NXT mythbusters on: January 18, 2014, 10:21:14 PM
Seeing as there is a lot of myths put forth by competitors and confused individuals regarding NXT, one of our most beloved community members has started a short series disspelling these myths one by one, starting with the most prominent ones:

http://nxtcoin.blogspot.com

If you still have any serious questions, then please just ask and we will do our best to clarify

Well what about this myth... "NXT is open source".
2704  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ixcoin TODO on: January 18, 2014, 09:51:03 PM
Well obviously this is my first concern, compounded by the fact of these horrors stories and I have this 10+ year old aged account in perfect standing. I imagine that I will either A)Sell something trivial that can be sent on a post card with a added gift of 100IXC B) create a new account just for this. This just gave me the idea to print out IXC stickers as a selling work around. Ill keep my eye on the logo design thread and/or just use the existing one if I can scrap up the funds.

I've sold Steam games on eBay... none issue.

How about selling CEX.IO redeeamble codes?

You can say that you are selling GHs.

2705  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ixcoin TODO on: January 18, 2014, 09:30:21 PM
Hey Vlad, just wondering what are your plans on short term?

Plans or expectations?

I'm not sure what you're asking.

My short term plans are to raise some funds to help develop IXC as well as accumulate some other coins including BTC in preparation for the next run which should come in the next 3 months and go to $2,000-$3,000.

Well i've been reading a lot and i've only seen you and markm talk for a while, kinda thought you both had great plans with the coins haha.
But I see other guys are active aswell now, that's all i need to know.

If there's anyway i can contribute to this coin then let me know!

We need all the contribution we can find?

Well for starters... please head over to the IXC boards.... ixc.boards.net  and make comments about the press release.

next... well what are your skills?

Do you have a good sounding voice?  You can make a video or two about ixcoin... use powtoons.... dexter has a whole bunch of them to serve as ideas.

Do you have a keen sense of style?  You can head over to PictoCharts and create an infographic that highlights iXcoin strengths.

Do you have a lot of persistence?  You can ping media outlets like coindesk and have them write something up on iXcoin.

Are you a developer?  We need plenty of them.

Anyway,  this is like running a start up.   Equity is simple... you buy iXcoin... that's your equity.

In general we are building a platform,  we all have realized that by starting off with a coin that already has secured its massive hash rate that we can build a coin that will be extremely competitive with what is out there.

2706  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ixcoin TODO on: January 18, 2014, 09:26:17 PM
The "press release" has started with:

1. wikipedia: the head of the project is iampingu.
2. Press release attempt n.1: the head of the task is nfigueir

Thank you both.

Now in view of the tenth of february, I am asking the name of at least 4 people ready to sell iXcoin on eBay UK. The main goal is not to sell iXcoin, but give it visibility.

I insist on this because I knew about iXcoin on eBay, not by means of this forum. The first purchase of cryptocoin I made was on eBay because I had no idea what a wallet was.
You have two weeks to get organised to sell on UK eBay.

Until I will not collect at least 4 names I will not communicate the next task.

Thankx

PS I ask Frictiocoinless to evaluate the possibility to establish a bounty for people accepting the task.

Thank you again

Oh... okay... we got 100 IXC to sell... who wants to sell on eBay?
2707  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ixcoin TODO on: January 18, 2014, 07:57:01 PM
It turns out,  I am not the only one having this problem.  Apparently, Vircurex only works with Firefox.   I checked with Chrome and Safari and it does not work.

Vircurex works very well on all major browsers, Safari, IE, Chrome, Firefox.

The "only" issue that caught people of guard was that the buy and sell buttons were not active if the order was too small (smaller than 0.0001). We changed that recently, an error message now appears.

I checked again,  does not show on chrome and safari!!!!  Does show on Firefox but it is misaligned.

You folks really need to fix this!!!

Also,  Vircurex keeps logging people out.  It is ridiculous that I have to login so many times consider I got 2 factor authentication on.

2708  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ixcoin TODO on: January 18, 2014, 07:38:46 PM
We have important things on schedule now risking to be overlooked:
- convince CEX.io, once their beta testing is finished, to add IXC trading: open an account, send your request, deposit some IXC just to encourage the trading
- start selling IXCoin on ebay
- promote IXC on forums, with video, chatting on CEX.io, contacting shops to add IXC, try to find a common ground of development with other teams, etc.
- windows client
- effective press releases
- convince BTC-e to welcome back
- convince BTC38 to add iXcoin
- decide the final logo
- create a better website with professional multi language platform
- etc...

I want to add to your list,  have coindesk write an article about iXcoin.   Identify other news sources to publish about iXcoin.

Folks,  we really have a good story here once NUCD comes out.

Like everything of value it takes time to develop.

When do you estimate that NUCD will be released? and how is it progressing?

With the release of 0.8.7  which will come 1 month after Bitcoin releases 0.8.7
2709  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NXT vs Bitcoin, Litecoin, Peercoin and Quark on: January 18, 2014, 04:15:42 PM
This is begging for an iXcoin vs. Nxt infographic.
I'll offer Uniqueorn a bounty of 4000 NXT (or equivalent IXC lol) to put one together.

Today's market volume:
Nxt VOL 147 BTC.
iXcoin VOL 0.45 BTC.
Lulz.

iXcoin, what is X there? It was premined, that's why "X" was used, iirc. Did FC regenerated the genesis block?

The real difference between iXcoin and NXT....   iXcoin has a block chain that is 2 1/2 years old and a hash rate or 5 peta hash per second,  so you need a lot of money to buy the chain.

NXT has a block chain that is a month old that does not require energy or resources to create.   Anybody can create a new NXT and issue themselves a billion coins.

So even though I have taken over development of the coin,  there is no way I could regenerate all the coins created in the block chain.   It is there for all eternity.

Contrast NXT, if someone forks the coin,  he can issue himself 1 billion coins,  claim a fair distribution and NXT would have a direct competitor.  There is no barrier of entry.

Most alt-coins, the barrier of entry of creating a new one is very low.  However,  to create a coin with 5 peta hashes of network... that is extremely difficult.

Awesome now i can sell the ones I have!

Precisely.  Now they can't buy the coin with fake BTC.

Expect a crash in the next couple of days.

Currently on the IXCoin website there are two wallet options.

1. iXcoin 0.3.24.3
2. iXcoin 0.8.6

The second one carries with it a warning that it is still being tested.

I have two questions

1. I see FrictionlessCoin is working on developing the wallet and some other areas but is he working alone as a developer?

2. Which is the recommended wallet for download and use? And what is the future plans for encrypted wallets?

0.3.24.3 is the legacy wallet and his around for 2 1/2 years,  this is your safe bet.
0.8.6 was just created recently and like any other software requires some time to mature.  So far it works without any issue that I have found.

I have other developers who build the QT client.  Right now I am waiting on one of them to release the Windows QT binaries.

0.8.6 already encrypts wallets.  0.8.6 has all the functionality of the latest Bitcoin client.
2713  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ixcoin TODO on: January 18, 2014, 03:09:28 PM
I am really confused. It seems to me the final result will be the promotion of zenithcoin, teslacoin, i0coin, edisoncoin, mcdonaldcoin, cinderellacoin....

you need to explain a bit here of what you mean.

iXcoin will be able to create new coins that are secure.  To create these new coins, you have to acquire iXcoin.  To transfer any of these coins, you need to pay a IXC transaction fee.

Each of these coins may have a value that is completely different for the value of IXC.

Let's look at NameCoin as an example.  You need to buy NMC to create a new domain.   The value of each domain is independent of the price of NameCoin.

The entire point of a coin with value is to create one that provides enough of a differentiator that it creates demand for the coin.

Most coins right now,  the only value is to provide a cheaper way to mine as compared to Bitcoin or Litecoin.  Long term, they don't have value because they don't provide functionality any different from Bitcoin.
2714  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ixcoin TODO on: January 18, 2014, 02:26:15 PM
Shocking. Smiley

-MarkM-

Why? It's simple and interesting. I used red just so it stands out cause the picture is busy.

I needed a pic to put on eBay but now I can't cause it's saying my max limit is $5,000.  That's a joke.  And they wanted $50 for a reserve.

So I don't know how to list this thing cause I definitely want to auction it for a lot more than $5,000.  Or At least try.
Max is $5000, WTF?  But now that you mentioned it, yeah, there is a $5000 a month limit. But that doesnt make sense because people sell automobiles all the time on ebay. Im curuious now in how you get that 5K limit raised. At any rate, Ive been following this thread closely and thought that i would chime in. Lucrative domain names that you have there. I wouldn't let that specific domain go too cheap.

eBay car sales work differently from the regular eBay listings.

I know,  I bought my BMW 5 series on eBay a couple years ago and it definitely did cost more than $5,000.

2716  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ixcoin TODO on: January 18, 2014, 01:07:24 PM
Does this means ixcoin press release will suffer of a delay?

No, my plans are separate, on top of everyone's efforts.

So no, the plans and releases Friction had in place still stand.  A PR should go out this Monday I think and then he's got another planned for the following week I think.

Any money I can raise from domain sales will be on top of all that.  I want to push iXcoin in a certain direction, economically, and that's what I need the money for.  Friction is pushing it via tech and I'm trying to do it via finance and economics since this is a tech/currency hybrid so both issues should be addressed.

Yup... pretty much it.  Let me focus on the tech.

There's still a lot of marketing and business dev. work that needs to be done.
2717  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: eToro launches Bitcoin trade on: January 18, 2014, 01:03:36 PM
They are saying they do hold bitcoins so this is good for traders. Very easy, no security risk and a very compliant exchange. As long as they hold the right amount of bitcoins at all times, I approve.

Though they have a great chance at becoming a real exchange this point with timing and their brand bought them this much time.

Do you honestly think that MtGox has all the bitcoins that its customers have deposited?

If eToro wants to fake that they have bitcoin then that means they are equivalently going short on those bitcoins.  That is a massive risk that I am sure any exchange will not take.

2718  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: ChromaWallet (colored coins): issue and trade private currencies/stocks/bonds/.. on: January 18, 2014, 12:57:47 PM
Quote
If somebody tells you that it is possible to create gold-backed coins which require no trust, he is lying.

So colored coins (as with ChromaWallet) would need law enforcement and a legal backing if you do not only want to use it transfering gold from your dad to you? The bitcoin that is colored as e.g. 1 ounce of gold is essentially a digital IOU right?

In the most general sense,  any colored coin that is issued by an issuer conveys certain rights.  These rights can be that if a coin is tendered to the issuer a certain amount of gold is delivered.   It could be virtual stuff as well, if a minecraft coin is tendered a certain amount of redstone is delivered.

It is an a IOU where the quantity of these IOUs are made public in the block chain.

By contrast, with Ripple, the number of IOUs that are issued is not known publicly.

2719  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Thread: AMT on: January 18, 2014, 12:46:01 PM
Just an update: We're due to receive our full chip batch in next week. We received sample chips in a few weeks ago. Testing is positive and the board is running fine.

Please post a youtube video of these tests

We've contracted a PCB/Computer contract manufacturing facility located in PA. They have been around for a long time, and are one of the leaders in the American electronic contract manufacturing market. They'll provide us with ability to streamline the assembly, surface mount, heat-sinks  mold (via their metal shop and glorious CNC machine) and several other areas where we may lack, like ISO certified and UL standard assembly of our miners. They're also currently assisting with streamlining the assembly processes of our smaller miners as well. And the 80's 128's and 180's are now down to a 14 day shipping lead time, and decreasing by 2 days or more each week.

Yes its another expense most wouldn't choose to do, but we feel keeping production of these miners local, rather than outsourcing everything to china like most, will pay off in the end. Everything, less our lian li cases and the chip is now produced in America, by Americans.

Speaking of our cases, yes they are expensive, and yes we could go with a cheaper case. In general Lian Li has been assisting us in modifying their existing cases to work for hashing boards and other components. And because of our bulk orders on the cases for the 1.2, they've given us a decent discount on the smaller cases as well. Also they are usually not purchased by the average joe because of their high price, allowing for a good amount of availability from local distributors as well.  That's why we use them.
Yes in general we have had issues with customer support due to our small staff which we've now expanded. Hopefully that wont be much of an issue anymore.

Streamlining these runs will allow to get back on track with our past orders and deliver future/current orders on the shipping dates we've promised. We expect to have miners out door within 7 to 10 days from the date we receive our chips. 5 of those days have to do with ISO certified processes that we can skip when working with true professionals.

We are always open to suggestions and informative contributions from the community as well. And will start accepting more involvement from community members as well. We see that most people are legit and our thread has become less of "AMT is a scam" to "AMT are amateur assemblers" and you know what, we can handle that.

Please know we're working hard, we have every intention of delivering as fast as possible. We thank our customers that have been loyal and have supported us thus far, and we'll find a way to take care of them in the future.

AMT

Post a little more detail about these boards.  How many chips are on the board,  what is the size of the board,  how many boards on a 1.2 THs machine.   By being more specific about tiny details,  it helps your credibility.

Roughly how many chips are expected from Bitmine.ch  and how many 1.2 THs machines can be produced?

Maybe memes would make good colours for tagcoin, so people can give tag rewards for sharing the memes and the tags given be coloured based on which mem they liked or crossposted etc.

-MarkM-

So let me get this right.... you have like Facebook integration so that when someone likes a meme,  he gets a meme coin?

So when he tweets a meme,  he gets a meme coin?

And what do they do with these meme coins?

Trade it for other meme coins?Huh!
