Gavin explains how Craig Wright convinced him:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/4hhecv/gavin_explains_how_craig_wright_convinced_him/

Quote
Craig signed a message that I chose ("Gavin's favorite number is eleven. CSW" if I recall correctly) using the private key from block number 1.

That signature was copied on to a clean usb stick I brought with me to London, and then validated on a brand-new laptop with a freshly downloaded copy of electrum.

I was not allowed to keep the message or laptop (fear it would leak before Official Announcement).

I don't have an explanation for the funky OpenSSL procedure in his blog post.

If @gavinandresen is wrong, I think his commit access should be revoked for being untrustworthy and/or incompetent:

I think this should have been done a long time ago.

Disappointed in Gavin......again.

Putting tin foil on, it could be an attempt to flush out the real Satoshi.

I am just giving an advice: Stake a bitcoin address now and sell it again later after 3-4 months and I won't really mind bidding a whooping 0.1btc for this excellent quality post account.

Thanks for the offer (and compliment) Wink but I'm planning on taking some time out from the forum.
2706  Economy / Auctions / Re: Senior member bitcointalk account on: May 01, 2016, 04:26:47 PM
Current highest bid: 0.02 btc (aleandromagno)

Apologies to the previous bidders.

2707  Economy / Auctions / Re: Senior member bitcointalk account on: May 01, 2016, 04:04:05 PM
Hmm...ok I've just realised that most if not all the addresses associated with this account are deposit addresses for Cryptsy so I wont be able to provide a signed message as promised in the OP.....

If anyone wants to retract their bid, I completely understand.

@jamesl22 0.005 btc is the minimum bid, thanks.
2708  Economy / Auctions / Re: Senior member bitcointalk account on: May 01, 2016, 03:39:51 PM
Ok, i see that you have a potential of 336 activity and I'm bidding 0.01BTC and it is only valid if you can sign from both address that you posted here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1051230.msg11548710#msg11548710 and here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=973949.msg10737128#msg10737128

The address I posted on the DaDice thread was a Cryptsy deposit so I can't sign that one. Should be able to sign the other one tho, will post a signed message asap.

Is BTC-e really registered in Cyprus? I know the exchange is owned and operated by Russians but if you do a Google search it says that it's a cryptocurrency exchange based in Bulgaria. Where did you find it's registered in Cyprus? Maybe they opted to register in Cyprus because Cyprus has the most lenient trade laws in the EU or something.

According to this old Coindesk article:

Although from its Google search description, BTC-e appears to be headquartered in Bulgaria, it uses Czech banks and the managing company is in fact based in Cyprus.

BTC-e terms & conditions:

Quote
Jurisdiction Laws in the country where the user resides may not allow the usage of an online tool with the characteristics of BTC-e or any of its features. BTC-e does not encourage the violation of any laws and cannot be held responsible for violation of such laws. For all legal purposes, these Terms of Use shall be governed by the laws applicable in the Cyprus. You agree and hereby submit to the exclusive personal jurisdiction and venue of the Cyprus for the resolution of any disputes arising from these Terms of Use.
2712  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcoin site for selling digital goods like GoURL on: May 01, 2016, 12:38:50 PM
There's a digital goods section on https://bitify.com/ though I'm not sure if they have instant delivery for downloads etc.
2713  Other / Off-topic / Re: Buying stuff with paypal nowadays on: May 01, 2016, 12:26:35 PM
I send a 5dollar payment to a friend of mine (but with goods, as it was a real trade) , and he got 4.5... 10% fee, really??
Yes this have also happened to me in past several times. They are getting richer and richer daily with 10%+ fees and also minimum fee system they have.

Yeah paypal have got a lot greedier, I ended up closing my ebay shop after they raised all the fees (on both ebay and paypal).

For now I'm looking forward to services like Open Bazaar and Bitsquare getting more recognition.

in the mean time, OpenBazaar is opened and it's acting like SilkRoad.  Grin

Has it gone full drugs already?

No, that's a massive over-exaggeration. I've seen a couple of dodgy listings on there but they had been taken down the last time I checked. The revolution shall not be OB'd
2716  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Video: David Cameron UK Prime Minister says "Blockchain" on: April 19, 2016, 05:16:13 PM
Is this a real picture of  George Osborne buying the bitcoin?

Yeah I can't remember exactly when or where it taken, but it is definitely bum nose (Osborne). More than likely a token PR exercise to make himself look all modern and up-to-date. That's how they roll in the Nu-Tory Party, wishy washy public relations with no substance......Grin

it was taken at a fintech-exhibition roughly 1 year ago.

Aha! thanks for letting me know

Ouch! doesn't really inspire confidence...

How have they managed to spend so much btc? There's only so much you can spend on blow and hookers.
2719  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do we need ebay like site to promote bitcoin on: April 18, 2016, 08:57:25 PM
We've already got sites like Bitify (https://bitify.com/), there were another couple of btc marketplaces but I've forgotten their names now.

I still have high hopes for OB, happy with what they done so far but there are still quite a few issues that need to be addressed.
2720  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Video: David Cameron UK Prime Minister says "Blockchain" on: April 15, 2016, 06:12:27 PM
The interesting aspect of that is a man facing some scrutiny over being connected to the panama papers,so not sure if we want him endorsing bitcoin on his way out the door. The banks love blockchain but not bitcoin and the reason they want it is so they can go back to controlling every aspect of our finances.

Too late mate, George Osborne's already bought Dodgy Dave some bitcoin so he can buy some flake off Nucleus.
