2701  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitcoin Difficulty Increase what's going on ? on: January 15, 2018, 12:45:56 PM
More miners turning on (we had a period of tiny difficulty increase a bit ago), and miners switching from BCH to BTC as BTC has become more profitable than Cash again. Most people buying miners now are hoping that price will go up and make their purchase of a miner worthwhile. Dangerous game as price stays stable but difficulty continues to skyrocket.
2702  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Monitoring Bitmain on: January 14, 2018, 08:38:42 PM
From what I've noticed, each time a new batch is released of any Bitmain shop miner, the price of BCH temporarily goes up. It wouldn't be a bad idea to buy up now in between batches. Looking at CoinMarketCap confirms this. There's still risk involved as the price of BCH does also change somewhat.
2703  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Where to buy Antminer in Europe ?? on: January 14, 2018, 06:19:58 PM
I highly suggest not looking at web stores for any miner as most of them are scams. Avalon has listed registered resellers so they are a different story, but Bitmain does not have anything like that and it is safe to assume all webstores claiming to sell Antminers are scams. Besides ordering direct, your best bet is buying from this forum, eBay, or Amazon.
2704  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Expected return vs true return mining ETH on: January 14, 2018, 12:07:43 PM
Some sites purposely increase their estimates for more traffic. I can't tell for sure which ones do, but when using calculators do not use any values past one month. After that, estimation is pretty much useless as any small variable can greatly affect your mining return. I stick by this rule and it works fine for me.
2705  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GPU Card prices on: January 12, 2018, 12:20:20 AM
High card prices only signal high demand and has no other impact on mining. People are still grabbing cards through bots, etc. There's nothing I can see right now that would indicate mining's coming to a close. 1060 3GBs can still be found around $220 occasionally.

235 is the cheapest I see now and they are sold out almost immediately and limited 1 per customer.  This isn't high demand, its euphoria and like with the stock market and tulips, it usually doesn't end well.   Its not even possible to get a decent ROI with card prices now.
Prices eventually go down and mining profits sink down as well. Most smart miners won't pay that much for inflated GPU prices. I was previously considering purchasing a 1060/1070ti for mining but decided to hold off.

Most of this is directly fueled by the price of ETH hitting an ATH and mining becoming slightly more profitable across the board. A drop in price for a little bit and GPU prices will sink back down. I also feel like people forget that before ETH and other crypto pumped up GPU prices, 6+ month ROI was normal for most all miners. Whether or not that is reasonable now is your opinion.

the boards on my S9s are running at 90+ degrees... this can't be too good, can it?
That’s not good. Power down the miner and see what’s causing the issues, are all the chains running at 90+? If need be, let them cool off and underclock the miner when it powers back on. You should post this in mining support but a status page on the miner would help too.

Make sure you have ventilation and whatever mode of ventilation you have is not obstructed. Could be the cause.
2708  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Will mining still be worth it when the block reward is 1.562 BTC? on: January 11, 2018, 01:47:44 PM
This question is equivalent to asking what the weather will be like exactly a year from now. Nobody knows. Price, difficulty, and transaction fees all play an important part in mining profitability. Unless you’re a time traveller, it’s impossible to know whether or not mining will be profitable by the time block rewards reach 1.562. Profitability waxes and wanes; just earlier last year, mining Bitcoin was much less profitable than it is even now, with every penny counting towards profitability and ROI.
2709  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining Rig Setup -- Problem with OEM Windows 10 Pro I bought off ebay on: January 11, 2018, 02:01:11 AM
Every time I build a computer, mining rig and just any computer in general, I use OEM codes and they have always worked. eBay is extremely buyer-sided so you can either ask for a replacement or refund and you should be set. I’ve seen codes for Windows 7/8/10 go for sub-$10 and even $5 commonly, not sure if that’s changed or not recently.

The most important part is that eBay is buyer-sided. Even if the seller states no returns you can still return a product most of the time and still get a refund. Just don’t fuck people over with it by requesting a return or refund for a genuine, working product. Big reason why I never sell on eBay.
2710  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: 4 Year warranty Antminer S9 - $42 from Amazon - will they honor it? on: January 11, 2018, 01:52:25 AM
If they can't find one then they may pull up eBay and see what Antminer S9's most recently sold for and give you cash value(which won't be much as in 3 years

You never know... I picked up a couple s5's for like $500 a couple months ago (little less).  I did so knowing I was paying too much and likely would be better off spending the money on coins, but I could double my money if I sold them now. They are 3 year old machines and are selling for the INSANE price of like $600 a piece right now...
eBay prices are known to be extremely inflated (you can find obsolete miners for even a third of eBay prices or less commonly on the forum), and that’s not always true. When the price of BTC falls and mining becomes less profitable like it was in 2015, miner prices also tend to fall. The price varies quite a lot. S5s sold for near the $100 to $150 dollar range even a couple months ago, and they recently shot up just because of the recent crypto hype. You can’t count on that.
2711  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How some people here add transactions to ViaBTC? on: January 11, 2018, 01:46:49 AM
I’ve been using it regularly for payments since the accelerator first came out, and I’m pretty impressed with how well it’s worked and how bots haven’t made it so that the accelerator is instantly full yet. I wish they’d increase the capacity of the accelerator, but it’s fine as it is.

What I’ve found is your computer clock is sometimes slow, and there are sites that measure time more accurately and show how far off your computer is from the actual time. Using such sites can help you get your TX in right at the top of the hour. To decrease how long it takes to get your tx info in, get it set up and the captcha completed a minute before the top of the hour. A little bit goes a long way.
2712  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Replacing my H81 Asrock LGA 1150 with an Aliexpress board on: January 11, 2018, 01:36:53 AM
The seller on aliexpress has very little reputation as of now and I don’t see any markings indicating that this is a rebranded motherboard, interesting. I would stick to better-known brands if I were you still, though- a bad motherboard can easily become useless. 1150 mining motherboards still occasionally come into stock on sites like Newegg, you just have to wait for the right moment.

Multipliers sometimes work and sometimes don’t. Best to stick with straight mining motherboards unless you absolutely must use them and know they will work.
2713  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Nicehash site is up... on: January 10, 2018, 10:26:14 PM
NH is convenient and convenience is something you have to pay for in Crypto. While the fees may seem small, over time they do add up. If you're trying to learn how to mine I still highly suggest learning the ropes with actual configuration and voltage, etc. You'll 'learn' as well as you would with Nicehash and you make more over longer periods of time.

No matter how you mine, ALWAYS regularly withdraw your earnings and keep them on an address whose key you own. You never know what can happen to your funds if you don't actually own them.
2714  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Blofgorge getting greedy? on: January 09, 2018, 11:56:08 PM
Considering how mining used to be just a year or so ago with smaller profit margins and year ROIs anything under 12 months is quite good. Up to you to decide whether or not to buy a miner (though most people here will say no, I also do slightly agree with this). The problem is difficulty jumps like crazy nowadays.
2715  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Sub freezing outside temps, S9 garage extended use? on: January 09, 2018, 11:49:48 PM
I live in NW PA when temps went down near -5F last week and my miners ran quite well in my garage. I have heard of miners not starting well in cooler temperatures, but you probably won't have issues near freezing. Even though the miners do make heat, ideally you still want some heat to start the miner.

Always, always have ventilation no matter what the temperature in your mining space is. A small space can quickly heat up and a miner can easily overheat in such a scenario.
2716  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 6 gtx1080ti on: January 09, 2018, 01:47:43 AM
At least link us the eBay link or a picture of the PSU so we can actually see what it looks like? Chinese PSUs aren't always garbage but I've seen some of those 1800W PSUs and they don't always run the best.

A true server PSU (HP, Dell, etc.) and a breakout board or soldered connectors is going to be better, more reliable and possibly cheaper.
2717  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: January 09, 2018, 01:27:15 AM
Hardware that's turned off will still likely be eventually sold and powered back on. However long it takes for those miners to come back varies, but difficulty will almost always move upwards in the long run. Even if it becomes no longer viable to mine in one country, there's no reason to let miners sit and collect dust.
2718  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Waiting forever on Amazon stock of 1070ti. Awful! on: January 09, 2018, 01:24:34 AM
Amazon loves to push back restocking dates, don't get your hopes up. Worst case scenario you can just cancel the order, Newegg still has a blower 1070ti for around ~530 USD IIRC. Not sure about the other sites and availability.
2719  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: solo mining Local hash rate vs pool hash rate please help on: January 09, 2018, 01:13:26 AM
The problem with solomining at lower hashrates is insane variance. By pool mining you reduce variance and therefore you get more stable and consistent payouts. Like Fanatic previously said, unless you're looking for a lottery ticket, don't solomine.

If you're looking for a pool, Kano.is is a great option. Lower fees than most pools I know, active and overall nice owner.
2720  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: D.F. Storm 12cm on Antminer S7 on: January 08, 2018, 02:24:00 PM
There’s ways to spoof fan RPM IIRC, I remember a guy said he used a $5 device or something to do it and the miner (presumably an S7) would run without any beeping. I’d still just stick with stock for safety though.
