2721  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WHY SUCH CONTEMPT AND DISPARAGING FOR ALT-COINS?! on: October 11, 2017, 12:58:25 PM
I have been to some of the cryptocurrency reddits including r/cryptocurrency and r/bitcoin. There is this usual agreement that Alt-coins are Shit-coins and a general show of contempt towards them. I feel this is a disservice to the cause of wealth redistribution touted by Bitcoin enthusiasts.
when almost all the altcoins are completely useless, and then the rest are only alive with hype and false information and pump and dumps nothing else is expected. people consider this behavior as "shit coins". there are of course good coins too but they get buried under all the shitcoins that come out every day. it is a reality not to do something like you suggested!
I think we all agree that there are some good coins out there. Almost everyone else is vouching for it which is a good thing. particularly what jeseverson said does explain why more of the experienced players don't support them. In his words:
We all know the potential of legitimate cryptocurrencies and ICOs, but it's just so difficult to sift through the scammy garbage. Not speaking out about the reality of the situation would make matters worse, simply because more people will fall for it, and more scammers will be born.
This is a pretty good reason i think and the reason why, as you said, good coins get buried under the shit-coins.

I see alt-coins as the one possible way that bitcoin can gain mass acceptance and legality.
then you know nothing about history.
so far altccoins are the reason for many of the issues regarding regulations and legality that bitcoin is facing. the most recent ones caused by ICOs!
My history on bitcoin is weak as I've been here for just around 3 months Tongue but please hear me out what i meant.
All the naysayers, skeptics and fence-sitters have one thing to ask "What is the underlying asset that gives bitcoin its value?". If a real world project actually materializes with the help of ICO funds, this will establish that it really is possible to "transact money and do business"with crypto. What is the crypto that everyone knows has made it possible first?? bitcoin!!
Maybe I am just seeing it through rose-tinted glasses but there still is a small chance of this to happen. It can only benefit and that is why i feel that its in favour of bitcoin community to not shit upon the shitcoins all the time..Tongue..

The use cases for alt-coins and ICOs are what can gives bitcoin its major value in the long-run.
not at all.
you are trying so hard to connect two things that are not even related!
people invest in ICOs with altcoin tokens such as ETH which they buy with fiat. bitcoin (in most cases) is not even involved.
and ICOs don't even do anything. they just gather some money and then give some out as profit and end!
People invest in ICOs by buying ALTS, ETH as well as BTC. All the ICOs list the amount if 'BTC' they raise proudly. Once again, I am not making a forced connection. Bitcoin may have a hard time growing in a vacuum or as a standalone entity. The whole ecosystem (Good&Bad) has taken shape around it and its natural to connect them in my opinion.

Sorry if this is a little bit hard to read. I tried too many quotes..

Just saw this in some chat group Smiley  Roll Eyes

Woah..Are they fucking serious..??
Wait I'll go check this VIT, Pune site..They are probably an engineering college organizing a tech-fest.
2723  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Who can help a newbie? on: October 11, 2017, 04:35:45 AM
Another Lazy-ass question making the newbies look bad... Huh
Almost all your questions are answered by Lauda in the pinned posts. I don't know why you'd repeat them:
Here's the post:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1629118.0

For the last of your questions, asking such open ended questions only show your hurriedness to open a topic. If not so, then such a question should also carry your own thoughts on this.
If you are thinking to start a "business as a crypto-enthusiast", what is it that comes to your mind? There are already hundreds of use-cases and whitepapers coming up everyday. Have you put some thought into them and thought about how it can become a business in your local setting?
If you let us know whats on your mind, then I feel the community has a reason to take you seriously and you may well get good responses from some of the people here who really know this stuff.

So, What do you say? A viewpoint from your side on the "business" side of things would be welcome. Otherwise its just farming.. Shocked
Thanks

2726  Local / India / Re: Amit Bhardwaj/Kumar and a HashOcean clone called Gainbitcoin. on: October 10, 2017, 05:06:37 AM
Just read through this whole thread. @tmfp had started his investigation back in 2016 and quite clearly had brought out holes in the BGF, GainBitcoin, Amit Bhardwaj story namely:

1. Calculation on the impossibility of gains GB was touting on website
2. Fake images and Fake testimonials used in their website
3. All the string of companies leading to an imaginary Mr. Lee in Singapore.

As the stroy progressed through 2017, A lot of Indian idiots had already put in their money in the greed for easy returns. The Fiat gains this Amit Bhardwaj made from rising Bitcoin prices has ensured that he had enough money to put up billboards and full page ads in leading newspapers, Besides getting Shilpa Shetty to endorse it for him.

This time he enticed the online group of people with MCAP. They too fell for it and have already handed over a huge amount of their money to him by buying high and Selling low on the fake graphs created by him. Man, this guy is a genius who has bascially made a "Chutiya/ cunt" out of us greedy/foolish/ Indians who themselves are shallow and unethical.

Indians are probably amongst the most unethical, shallow people in the world.
We have already earned ourselves a name for "Ohh girl..show bob and vagine..I want you FRAAND...want sax" posts in the chatting world.
Now we are out here shaming ourselves, falling over each other to get the maximum profit at the cost of others.

I agree that there are scam-artists everywhere but I don't know, maybe it has to do with our historic poverty that we simply cannot handle knowledge and money with grace. Sure, there are some very bright people among us but I guess, thats the reason they all leave for foreign shores. Well, Thats just my personal opinion. I wish we'll improve our standards someday.

To all those who have been scammed, I think the Scamster will pull another fine trick. He'll have enough profits to share some crumbs with you guys and you all will be thankful to him for returning fraction of your investments back. Or possibly, he will identify the most well-connected and potential dangerous amongst you and clear your dues, or even offer extra to shut you up. Which you surely will like a good dog that an Indian with a wad of money in his mouth is.
Some of the investors will shut and lick your wounds as you don't want to have your ego hurt by letting others know that you've been scammed.

The small investors (0.5-2 btc group), will anyways not have enough energy to carry this forward.

He'll continue to legitimize his further investments ensnaring more people. As the economy of scale kicks in to his rescue, we'll all forget that he was basically a scamster and everybody will become his lapdog form media to the small investors who lick out of his hand.
And then we'll be proud and declare: "IT HAPPENS ONLY IN INDIA".. Shocked Shocked

As researched by tmpf in the very beginning, it is possible that his funds and his antics may also be behind the following websites. They may not be complete scams as they have already diversified using the stolen money, but still, take caution when putting your money into them

https://www.darwinlabs.io/
http://satoshistudios.io/
http://www.blocksmiths.io/
http://virtualists.io/

EDIT1:
The above companies seem to have a different set of management and one of the members has put up a post on their blog dissociating themselves from Amit Bhardwaj. I am editing the post to keep this straight:
Here's the link  https://blog.darwinlabs.io/on-gbminers-satoshi-studios-and-darwin-labs-the-road-not-taken-e23108a29684

It seems they did accept funds from him and worked for him at one time but have returned those and removed any association with Amit Bhardwaj.
Though, A company claiming to deal with Blockchain saying that "We don't understand mining hardware" is pretty childish. Hope they do some good work like they claim in their swanky website.
2727  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WHY SUCH CONTEMPT AND DISPARAGING FOR ALT-COINS?! on: October 09, 2017, 04:28:04 PM
It is easy to dismiss altcoins because most are ultimately worthless and have no reason to exist. While there may be a few viable altcoins out there, they are tainted by all the other crap coins.

The situation for ICOs is similar, but worse. Most of the ICOs are outright scams whose sole purpose is to enrich the promoter. The rest may be legimate attempts but the vast majority of them are doomed to fail. I doubt that more than 1% of the ICOs will succeed.

That is the reality. People bash altcoins and ICOs because it is easy.

Umm..I don't know if there's a convention to address a legendary user.. Wink so i'll just start.
Yeah, a lot of them are worthless. What I want to say is that if Alt-coins and ICO's lose their credibility, it will ultimately be detrimental to the whole ecosystem, including bitcoin acceptance. They lose there credibility all the more when experienced people / Big holders call them shit-coins.
So maybe the community should find a way to correct this. The market will surely introduce self-correction as people become more experienced at judging and the wisdom here reaches far off.
Apologies if I sound like preaching to the choir. Thanks for the response..
2728  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WHY SUCH CONTEMPT AND DISPARAGING FOR ALT-COINS?! on: October 09, 2017, 10:20:49 AM
It's just like how people pretty much assume every ICO they see is a scam. A massive majority of altcoins are pump and dump. just as majority of ICOs are scams. I wouldn't go as far as to call it a "disservice to the cause of wealth redistribution touted by Bitcoin enthusiasts", but rather just a case of a sweeping generalization and maybe discrimination in some cases.

Quote
The big hurdle in this is going to be the greed of the major holders. The major holders are able to perform pump and dumps and every such Alt-project loses its legitimacy afterwards. The big players run off with the money looking for the next shit-coin to suck dry. The banks/ governments have the funds to become the big holders. This is one way they can easily turn bitcoin against itself and destroy its legitimacy. Why isn't there more of a discussion on this?

This is a legitimate concern, actually. The way I see it, though, is that Bitcoin is too small at the moment to warrant an allocation of such resources, and that it's just going to get harder as Bitcoin gets bigger. It is a possibility, but hopefully a remote one. There's also the fact that if they want nothing to do with Bitcoin, governments have the power to impose an outright ban which would effectively cripple Bitcoin trading in their countries -- people will likely still be able to trade with each other, but having no exchanges or vendors to accept transactions would complicate things a lot.

I am sorry if i went overboard but the kind of snobbery that some of the old hands tend to show on online forums/ reddit can be really distracting from what the porposed intentions are, that is, decentralized, safe and free access of currency and commerce without the overpowering presence of central banks.
I don't blame the Govt per se because not all politicians are central bank stooges. These private institutions with a lot of money are what can not be trusted to keep your money safe. (Investment banks ably sulported by the Central banks).
I just feel that bitcoin enthusiasts, especially the old hands at crypto should see the altcoins and ICOs for the potential they have and try to support it, rather than talk shit about them all the time..Its definitely becoming too much of a job for anyone to lay down guidelines about these but thank god for this forum. The guidelines for giveaways/Signtaure Camapaigns was particularly impressive..
If enough campaigns follow those guidelines, the signature csmpaigns could become a good way to separate the wheat from the chafe. But only if the senior members only choose the good ones.

I understand these are tough decisions to make but who else, if not this community.
2729  Other / Politics & Society / Re: do you believe in your government? on: October 09, 2017, 08:01:31 AM
I am from India and I believe in my country's Governement....
...

...

....

To make huge promises before elections..

Do a small part of what they promised...

Make big scams from the rest of it and fill their party coffers..

Get booted out in the next 5 years..

Start the cycle again with another party.

Well, for real..Governement of a country can be trusted only as much as you can trust its people. We Indians are still a bit laid-back, conscientious lot (thats changing slowly due to America styled media-takeover) so I suppoze we'll survive a few more governments.
Disclaimer: I have nothing against America. Its downright the most successful country in the world but it could be so much more if not for the greed and the ruthlessness..Sad
2730  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Guns - Why do we need them? on: October 09, 2017, 07:54:21 AM
This Gun control thing has most to do with present day USA. America was a shit-huge piece of land owned by peacock haired natives with names like "star of morning", "Old wolf" living in a primitve tribal society.
In comes the white man bewildered by the open expanse, crazy big bisons, plentiful potatoes and corn. So he starts to build like all good white men do.
But then the Cherokee says "lalala..This land my, not you"
The white man says, "Look Big fella, here take 25 Dollars, I'll buy it"

The cherokee looks bewildered at this little guy offering him some cheque and he gives in just to check it out.

The next day white man comes with the guns and tells him and his clan to bundle themselves to some other place.
The cherokee feels cbeated..Takes out his bow..The white boh takes out his musket..Bang..!!

And this is how the story starts. The Natives come in hordes so the white man gets guns in hordes and are killed in hordes.
Those who are no threat are given disease carrying blankets to save the bullets. There is carnage. A lot of God-fearing white men find this unjust, too much to take, lose there mind and decide to turn the guns against his own brethern. This is where the story reaches its crescendo.

Well then everyone knows it becomes the wild, wild west. The civil war comes. The white man realizes his folly and decides to make a honest and just society. But the seed of sin has been sown long ago.
They fight and kill. The Black men relaizes he's bigger than the white men to be bullied. So he buhs guns too.

So now they all hate each other secretly. So they all now need guns.
To be continued..
2731  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: is it risky to turn all my money to bitcoins? on: October 09, 2017, 07:30:58 AM
Why ask such questions???

AND why answer after 30 pages of replies. Ohh wait...ACTIVITY hey..Smiley
But frankly, just for the sake of it, It is a definite risk to turn ALL of your money into any single commodity, leave alone bitcoin.
Though if you've decided to go the natural way and subsist only on what the earth provides you, you may put all your money into bitcoin and then wait for it to rise. Bide your time as a forest dweller in that while. You'd learn survival skills, become so much fitter, and come back to a fortune many times what you invested. Good Luck.
2732  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will bitcoin replace gold? on: October 09, 2017, 07:27:25 AM
Replace gold in what sense? This comparison between bitcoin and gold should not exist. These two are very different from each other. Gold is not just a metal dug out to be sold, it is also not just a jewelry. It is a scarce and precious metal used in different industries. So it is very different from bitcoin.
I must say that bitcoin has already defeated gold in so many ways. Most of the people who were previously investing in gold are now investing their money in bitcoin. As far as I think, gold will be only used as a jewelry in the near future and it will be bitcoin only who will be leading the race. Bitcoin is no doubt far more profitable as compared to that of gold from investment point of view.
There is no need for Bitcoin to replace gold. As a hedge against uncertainty, Bitcoin will never replace Gold because ultimately it derives its value from the market. Tomorrow if the market falls nobody would buy your bitcoin for what you think its worth.
Tomorrow if all the exchanges crash, your Gold will still have value. You may even be able to exchange it for bread at your friendly neighborhood Jeweler's shop.
Bitcoin will definitely become valuable but will not replace Gold. People will keep Gold. They'll also keep bitcoin.
2733  Other / Politics & Society / Re: do you think that corruption can be deleted totally in your country? on: October 09, 2017, 07:05:51 AM
Being prone to corruption is being human. For corruption to stop completely, every public system, every transactions, every business would need to be made automated.
When AI advances enough to take over mankind and save it from itself, then we'd probably not have any corruption.

My country is India and No, I don't think it'll ever end here..
2734  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Vs Ethereum on: October 09, 2017, 06:12:08 AM
Comparing Apples and Oranges probably.
Bitcoin is the most well known and widely accepted store of value in the crypto world. It is what everything derives value from. If Bitcoin loses, everything goes down because then nothing else would be able to gain the same kind of acceptance.

Ethereum promises development of Distributed apps and enable smart-contracts using blockchain. This can allow business between two parties using ETH. Right now their biggest problem is scaling and it seems that the developers may have under-estimated the issue of having hundreds/ thousands of apps run on a decentralized server formed of those mining GPU's. If they can find a way around that, ETH will probably flourish, otherwise, I think its not going to stay too relevant.

The same scaling issues haunt bitcoin too but for Ethereum, the issues are on a different and much larger scale.
2735  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: why should governments allow bitcoin to continue grow? on: October 09, 2017, 06:02:11 AM
No government likes a parallel economy. Bitcoin/ Blockchain/ Alts have the potential to create this parallel economy because of the possibility to hide transactions. If they ban it, it will create this parallel economy creating sort of untraceable black money.
On the other hand, if they legalize it, they can earn taxes from the borderless businesses that bitcoin/blockchain/alts promise.
2736  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / WHY SUCH CONTEMPT AND DISPARAGING FOR ALT-COINS?! on: October 09, 2017, 05:49:25 AM

I see alt-coins as the one possible way that bitcoin can gain mass acceptance and legality. Those who think that "legality" is something bitcoin doesn't need are just kidding themselves. If the governments outlaws it, it will remain the plaything of uber-hackers with the necessary skill to conceal their identities and be used in the deep web for things like drugs/guns/child-porn (aka Silk Road).

The use cases for alt-coins and ICOs are what can gives bitcoin its major value in the long-run. For example, If the blockchain technology and ICOs enables someone in a third-world country to raise easy capital and use it to invest for setting up a small factory/ infrastructure. Being able to network with investors in developed countries, this also brings the option of open exchange of ideas and availability of expertise from the community. The products these third-world entrepreneurs create in turn benefit the community and give more acceptance to Bitcoin.

Sorry if what i have said is just too obvious or already discussed. I started reading about Bitcoin and ICOs about 3 months back and the idealism behind it was exciting. As of now, it seems like its mostly about trading and money. Do we need thought leaders?
2737  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is Global Warming Real? on: October 09, 2017, 04:47:35 AM
I don't understand the motivation of those who oppose 'global warming'. Even if its all just a planted story and they are going to gain from it, why on earth would it be worse to have non-polluting cars, lower use of fossil fuels that choke the atmosphere and have more trees??

By all accounts, Global warming is real. Those who oppose it have gotten themselves too entrenched in the cynical viewpoint that anything that the Government supports is bad.
2738  Other / Off-topic / Re: Will the electric car destroy the petrol car? on: October 09, 2017, 04:40:31 AM
The world oil mafia have been making sure a thing like that wouldn't happen. And they will continue to do their best. It's hard to imagine what it would take to really be able to fight them on this and win... Even if it happens and russians, arabs and corporations all over the world are somehow made to lose, it will take dozens of years. Am I too sceptical, though??

The Oil companies are probably some of the biggest companies and have the deepest pockets. They are also known for being able to influence political decisions (along with the Defence manufacturers as in the Iran, Iraq wars). So yeah, its going to be really difficult to completely sideline them.
I don't see a major change unless somehow they move there humungous funds to generating non-renewable energy and decide that its more profitable for them to push electric cars to have a market for that energy being generated. That'd be glorious to have.
2739  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin illegal in Nepal on: October 09, 2017, 02:53:51 AM
National Bank of Nepal Deems Bitcoin Exchange Operations “Illegal,” While the CIB Police Force Arrest Seven Exchange Operators

Source :- https://news.bitcoin.com/bitcoin-illegal-in-nepal-police-arrest-seven-individuals-for-trading-operations/

This is not a good news but don't worry OP because bitcoin is getting broader and stronger.
From time to time they will surely regret it and will accept bitcoin in the future.

Thank you. Thanks for your nice reply.
I am also thinking that some days ago bitcoin banned in china, then price some low. and now all ok. so, it couldn't effect on price of bitcoin. Its Behavior such as good.    Cool

The currency of Nepal is pegged against INR and most of the revenue comes through remittances by Nepalese nationals working abroad. The central bank is not very confident and competent as its yet to find its feet. The potential for bitcoin to move wealth (particularly the remittances), to a completely unfamiliar mode must have given the central bank cold-feet, that is why they had declared it illegal to trade in bitcoin quite a while back.
These arrests were just a result of the traders using bitcoin despite the ban. You guys should hold them in secret wallets, maybe trade a fraction using VPN if you want to continue earning. Seeing as it is going to be difficult to exchange it for real money legally, I think its going to lose much of its revolutionary value for the common man, which is unfortunate.
2740  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Do you believe in god? on: October 07, 2017, 04:55:03 PM
Its reassuring to believe in God, thats for sure. When you look at all the beauty and complexity of nature, the vastness of the sky and universe and the perfect intricacy down to an atom, you can't help but wonder if this is all just randomness or has a creator behind it.

But if the creator was so perfect, why is there so much injustice and horror in the world. I mean I understand difficulties in life but what kind of God tolerates little babies getting raped and women having their intestine removed by savages.
What kind of God lets so much injustice prevail?

So I find it better to believe there is no God, coz if there was one, he'd fall really short of all our expectations from him/her.
