Hey CK?
is the solo pool doing ok? think maybe we need a restart?
i cant seem to get above a 3 bill share and its been a few days
usually now i would have gotten a 30-0 bill share

Solo pool's fine, it's only up to 73% diff this "round". Restart is bullshit. I don't help people live out their superstitions, sorry.

Pardon my ignorance, but wouldn't "over-writing" the current software on the bitmain equipment be easier than cracking and modifying? I think of it like flashing the BIOS on a motherboard or updating the firmware on another peripheral. I'm sure im missing something here
Overwrite it with what? There are no drivers for the S9 in official cgminer so you if you replace bmminer with cgminer it won't do anything.

But aren't network difficulty and pool difficulty different?
Not on this pool. You're mining solo; unless you hit the network difficulty you get zero here. The other "diff" is purely for miner feedback to know you're hashing.

...Never in a trillion years...
Actually, by my math, it should be possible about once every 860 million years. Tongue

But then someone gets lucky and hits a block and the world goes NUTS!!!

Hi! Another noob here, so please bear with me.

I am using the Bitcoin miner app for Windows 10, and the difficulty says "1000". I have the app set to Ckpool, and I am running 32MH/s. If I could I would provide a screenshot. Is this the actual difficulty I am running on, and if so, based on calculations, what would be my block time?
Never in a trillion years. CPU mining is quadrillions of times slower than current hardware miners. You can not meaningfully mine bitcoin with CPU or GPU. You need an ASIC.
2732  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 1% fee solo mining USA/DE servers 189 blocks solved! on: August 06, 2016, 11:28:12 AM
I just tested a S9 I have running on solo right now with a backup pool of Kano.  In console I switched to kano and timed the difficulty adjust.  Diff stayed at 1024 for exactly 60 seconds and then switched to 8.38 K.  Before I had done this test it was running at 10.8K on solo and had been for days.  When I switched back to solo diff quickly dropped down from 10.8K to 4K after only a few minutes of no hashrate.  I understand about the smaller miners but as you said they will probably never make money mining, so why cater to these in-efficient miners?
Not sure how you're conducting your tests for you see... solo and kano run the same pool software which I wrote so what you say is nigh on impossible. The only difference is solo's start is exactly 1k whereas it's 1042 on kano which is virtually the same (+ Douglas Adams' 42)
2733  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 1% fee solo mining USA/DE servers 189 blocks solved! on: August 06, 2016, 11:09:22 AM
A higher starting diff would definitely help with rentals starting speed.

Isn't it best to increase the starting diff now anyways.  Most miners are 4TH or higher now.

X
I have an awful lot of miners on the pool, most of which are running adhoc rigs of all shapes and sizes - a lot of them lower hashrate older generation hardware that will never make money mining but they run them as a lottery. 1k is fine as a compromise since ckpool adapts so quickly upwards anyway, in less than 30 seconds. If it was the era where you watch consoles which cgminer is running you could see it for yourself, but alas these days it's all hidden behind web interfaces and obfuscation. I've never heard of any rentals, even 8PH ones, having any trouble starting quickly on this pool.

I am thinking different investment to do with bitcoin than gambling and i want to ask what will it take me to start a bitcoin mining pool

Site Development Cost?
Developers fee?

Please what are needed and what is the total money needed to start the development of the pool + maintenance?

how will i make my money back?

Is the to much to worry about?

i am interested too
Talking to yourself? That's bad form here.

If you don't know what's involved in creating a pool then you've already proven you don't have what it takes to run a pool. If you expect people with millions of dollars worth of hardware to trust you with tens of thousands of dollars worth of bitcoin generation when you're not a known respectable member of the community with skills in software development, networking and administration and the ability to provide quality support at all times, then you're wasting your time.

The Rig Owners asks me for that. For faster starting there Rigs to prevent low RPI Score Levels.

I use "solo.ckpool.org:3334" for renting. Is there a way to start with eg. DIFF 65536.
Only if the rigs support setting diff with the stratum compliant --suggest-diff that's built into cgminer. However ckpool is very fast at changing diff upwards so I doubt it will really delay in any meaningful way with a start diff of 1k.

How can I set DIFF for ckpool at MRR. Some of the Rig Owners wrote me about that. I read about 50 Pages in this Thread but dont find the answer. I'm tired now ^^
Don't? It doesn't make any diff (pun intended.)

I was under the impression of the " last 5 n shares "... or something like that is what screws up the mining efficiency if you don't mine continuiously.... Every day now, I mine 8pm to 8am for a cheaper rate of electricity, i'm pretty certain that when the timer shuts down the system, its not right exactly when the block is found that I was last mining. I mined a portion of that block, but I wasn't mining till it was found. - doesn't the pool have some sort of "pool hopping" deterrent - that effects my mining because in a sense, the pool would think that I'm a pool hopper since I there for a little bit then gone?
You misunderstand (like most people do). Hoppers are not "penalised" more than any other miner. The difference is they can't game the system to earn more than other miners. If you mine half the time, you get half the reward. It's as simple as that. Regardless of whether you do it in one long block or half a day at a time. The only issue is if your hashrate is so low that halving it takes you below the dust threshold (under 1TH).

For the repeated questions: You're asking how can you make mining be profitable with high electricity costs when you can't use the generated heat? The answer: You can't.
If you want to discuss strategies to try and make money from an otherwise guaranteed loss situation, that discussion belongs elsewhere.
