2721  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: D.F. Storm 12cm on Antminer S7 on: January 08, 2018, 02:02:47 PM
This only goes up to 3500 RPM while stock S9 fans go up to 6000 and regularly operate near 4500. It’ll definitely not be enough for safe operation. Pressure won’t be enough on this fan either.
2722  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: What is normal temp for Antminer S9? on: January 08, 2018, 01:55:27 PM
Your temps on the S9 are actually pretty decent. In my experience these things can easily hit 90 if a room isn’t well ventilated or if’s you have multiple miners in one room. Make sure you continue to monitor temps on the S9 and make sure it doesn’t go over 95. If it does, consider moving the miner or underclocking it.
2723  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: PSU for Avalon 741 - 1x EVGA 1300W or 2x EVGA 650W - both Gold 90% ? on: January 08, 2018, 01:50:09 AM
If you run two power supplies combined powering one 741, they're probably not going to be near the peak of their efficiency curve. One advantage of server PSUs for mining is that not only are they usually platinum and at least gold rated to begin with, but the higher power units also provide you the best efficiency. By not maxing out the PSU and keeping it below ~80% or wherever the peak of the efficiency curve is you get optimal power consumption from the PSU as well.

Are there advantages to using ATX PSUs? Sure, but IMO it's better to just use plain ol' server PSUs.
2724  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: https://antminersupply.co selling S9 for $2999.00 Legit? on: January 08, 2018, 01:39:33 AM
Thanks for the snark.
I posted it because this forum seems to have vast and deep knowledge. Sorry my research irked you so.
And we do have knowledge. The problem is these "is ___ legit" questions can be solved with just a few clicks on any search engine. The whois shoulda been the biggest red light besidesthe aforementioned Reddit post.
2725  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Altcoin Mining Automation on: January 07, 2018, 01:44:37 AM
Most exchanges also charge small fees per transfer and additional fees upon withdrawal, another reason that makes constantly switching coins not incredibly profitable. Those are the two main reasons I just pick one or two coins to mine, including just plain price instability.

Awesome Miner is one piece of software I can pull off the top of my head that supports profit switching.
2726  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [150+ PH] SlushPool (slushpool.com); World's First Mining Pool on: January 07, 2018, 01:35:24 AM
IIRC Slushpool used to show how much Namecoin you earned per block like Bitcoin and had you could see all the stats like Bitcoin. Not sure why they stopped displaying it. It's not a whole lot per block anyways, you're probably making pennies a day in NMC per day. Not incredibly noticeable, but it amounts to a couple extra bucks per year.
2727  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer s9 Jan Batch fatal error on: January 05, 2018, 12:33:26 AM
You don’t need the exact same fan. Going on eBay and searching “S9 fan” or “replacement S9 fan” yields many results and those fans will work for the most part. They should be rated for around 6000RPM and will be 120mm. Just make sure the one you choose isn’t shipping from China and you should be fine.
2728  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: trezor vs Ledger Nano S on: January 05, 2018, 12:29:35 AM
why ledger?
Ledgers support more Alts from what I see and from what I can tell there’s usually more development on the Ledger side of things than Trezor. Both are open source so it’s really just up to developers to add support for a certain coin for it to be usable on a Trezor or Ledger. Whatever’s cheapest will work though IMO. Neither is significantly worse at security than the other.
2729  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Genernal water coolling solution for AntMiner S9 S7 D3 L3+ , Pangolin M3 on: January 04, 2018, 10:09:17 PM
Not completely useless if it mitigates the heat effectively and is quasi-silent.

All heat mitigation solutions cost money.  But without cost specs and decibel facts, not sure how it stacks up against other cooling methods.
Watercooling is mostly a gimmick for most miners today, they do have a niche but for the most part in their intended industrial environment there's no need for watercooling. Why bother investing additional money in watercooling when aircooling works just fine for 99% of modern miners? Just additional overhead. Most of us know about the Antminer C1 and how it worked- it was the first and last factory-watercooled miner from Bitmain, and for a good reason.
2730  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer T9+ coming out in China tmrw - 5000 units on: January 04, 2018, 12:40:59 PM
So based on what I have seen I assume the efficiency of this unit is lower probably because the chips are volted or clocked higher, probably to compensate for the lower hashrate. Price is too high, and the S9s earlier sold for less though they were in stock for maybe 5 minutes.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Bitmain are about to release a new miner, some competition has slowly been building and they might want something else to put them ahead of the pack.
2731  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining rig with 12 GPU on: January 04, 2018, 12:21:21 AM
I used to use a DPS-800GBA and a breakout board which I paid a total of $35 for with FS and it outputs 1000W on 220V and is platinum rated IIRC and comes with four 6-pin connectors. The PSU was also not loud at all- definitely wasn't the loudest part of my mine. Some of the higher-power PSUs are loud, but not all of them are. If you can solder at all, it's possible to just solder on the 6pin connectors by reading pinouts for a specific server PSU and save money by skipping a breakout board.
2732  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Ebang Announces E9++, E10, and E10.1 on: January 03, 2018, 10:23:08 PM
What is power consumption??    They say:   " power consumption ratio is 90W/T "

- what does "T" mean?  "per Thash"?    Is it 90W * 18Th = 1620W?     Or just 90 Watt ?

T is Terahash. There's no way it would be simply 90W. W/T is a common way to express miner efficiency nowadays, sometimes preferred over W/GH in the product description for some miners. I still prefer good ol' W/GH over W/TH but that's just me.

so it is 1620 Watts ,  - why so much??  - nearly the same as S9.  But  10nm should be much more efficient as 14nm, shouldn't it ?
No. A smaller node usually means less power consumption, but ultimately in the end a better-designed ASIC is what drives power consumption down. The best example of this that I can think of is the Pangolinminer/Whatsminer- it is made on 28nm but squeezed out still more juice out of the aging plaform. Just because the number is smaller does not mean the miner will be more efficient than a miner on a larger node. Also explains why not all 16nm chips are the same- Avalon is less efficient than Bitmain, etc.
2733  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: first post, probably dumb question (but not the typical new guy stuff) on: January 03, 2018, 10:01:01 PM
check pool side number each day

Can you elaborate a bit more?  I'm not sure what that means.  Thanks
He means you should check the miner's performance on the actual Minergate website (the pool) each day. Clientside hashrate doesn't matter, what does matter for mining is poolside performance because that is what you are paid by. What is most likely happening is Claymore shows the actual hashrate for each completed job/share, while the Minergate application probably averages out your hashrate for whatever increment they choose to average by.

It is natural for the hashrate to constantly fluctuate, but on average you should be getting the same numbers on both mining applications.
2734  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What RX 580 to choose? on: January 03, 2018, 09:58:19 PM
Thanks.
The cheapest ($361) is Gigabyte Radeon RX 580 4GB Aorus. 1381 mhz. 2 fans.

The most expensive ($120 more) is ASUS Radeon RX 580 8GB ROG Strix Top Gaming, 1431 mhz. 3 fans.

About 40 mhz difference, will it be noticable?

A $120 premium for a RX 580 is absolutely not worth it no matter what type of RX 580 it is. The difference will be minimal if it's even noticeable. The price for the card is a little more than I am accustomed to seeing in the US, but if you really want to start mining now then go ahead. I've been seeing 570 4GB cards in the US near $200 USD recently. Both the 70 and 80 cards hash almost identically, and what's cheapest is usually best if there are memory mods/straps for the card.
2735  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: eBay Antminer S7, Item damaged on arrival - anything i can do?!? on: January 03, 2018, 09:50:46 PM
(Modertors: So sorry if I posted this in the wrong forum, i wasn't sure where this type of thing should go and I realy wanted to get some feedback from knowledgeable folks. So sorry if i got it in the wrong spot.)

I recently purchased an Antminer S7 on eBay from what appeared to a reputable seller with thousands of positive reviews.

HOWEVER, everything did not arrive as described... Here are the details... Has anyone had any experience with purchasing these types of items on eBay? What are the chances ebay will make things right with buyer protection if this guy tries to screw me?

The description had many positive things to say but some of the highlights were...
“Used Antminer S7 in « A » WORKING condition! and in « B » Looking condition HAVE small scratches and dust but does NOT affect performance of the miner. This was pulled from a rack of equipment mining at full hashrate. Sold as-is, no warranty, no returns.”

Also at the bottom this was said:
Warranty and Returns
There is no warranty on miners/psu as those are used. Asap you receive the miner, please test it and confirm us its working. If you don’t confirm us after 72h that miner is working we’ll consider all is good
No Returns are accepted.

Long story short... The miner arrived with a few problems...
1. One hashes at full rate. Yay!
2. One hashboard was dead on arrival. (when this one is run with the working one, the whole unit only gets ~6 gh/s instead of the 1500gh/s it gets with just the working board, is this normal?
3. One hashboard has a loose heatsink (I have not yet powered up this board so i don't know if it works or not). i didn't want to power it up out our courtesy for the seller just in case they have some way to repair it after it is exchanged. <- hopefully

I am understandably upset and seeking an exchange for a working unit or a refund. I have had some communication via eBay messages but he has not offered any reasonable suggestions to resolve the situation. All he has offered was a replacement fan to "fix" the "cooling and vibration" issue... I don't even know what he is talking about!!

He has since gone radio silent so I submitted for a return/exchange through the eBay process... any advice?Huh HELP?!?!? I stand NO chance of a return on investment if 2/3 of my rig don't work! eeeeek!!

Open an item dispute with eBay. Use the "item is defective" option. Explain exactly what you said here.

They will rule in your favor - customer always wins.  Even when a seller claims "no returns/refunds" ebay will force it.

Please do not abuse this.
Pretty much this. This is also why most people selling miners don't like to sell on eBay- refunds are often abused and in addition the fees on eBay are very high for sales as well. no matter what the description says, if it does not come as advertised it does warrant a refund. Doesn't matter how reputable the seller is, if it doesn't come as advertised then a refund will come for you in 99% of situations/

You could also go with the picopsu and server PSU + soldered 6pins or breakout board route. Most server PSUs are rated 80+ platinum or so and they're not incredibly expensive, though prices have begun rising steadily on em. PicoPSUs can be found near $20 or sometimes less IIRC.

Replied. Sale is pending and thread will be locked until we officially make a deal.

I am interested.

Is Bitmainwarranty a legit hoster? Never heard about it?  Huh
They most certainly are and they even provide free repairs to hosted miners. There's not many hosters out there as reliable and helpful as them.
2739  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTS] Bitmainwarranty/Myrig hosted S7 .06 BTC on: January 01, 2018, 11:25:05 PM
Hello, I have a Bitmainwarranty-hosted Antminer S7 in my possession. The miner comes with a month of hosting already paid and is fully hashing with no errors, etc. Electrical costs at the Bitmainwarranty facility are around 9 cents per kilowatt and payable through Bitcoin and PayPal/Credit Cards.

Looking for BTC.06 for this miner. Had some money issues and as a result I need to sell it. We can either use a reputable escrow or you can send first.
2740  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Avalon Quality vs Antminer Quality on: January 01, 2018, 03:16:55 AM
I don't think past experience is a predictor.  Since the 8 series is new there's no way to gauge it's reliability before the fact.

My experience is that S9s are very poor.  6 months in we are down maybe 30% in hash rate.
L3+ have been much more reliable though.

S-9 suck
S-7 not that good
S- 5 a little better
S-3 really really good

Avalon 741 not that good
Avalon 721 good
Avalon 6 good
Avalon 4.1 really really really good
So following the trend, Avalon 821 suck Smiley I wonder how are we going to keep mining SHA256 if things keep going in that direction.
We do tend to overexaggerate things a bit but as long as there isn't a whole lot of competition in the mining scene companies will continually slack off with quality. We'll keep mining, but miner breakage rates will continue rising if there isn't much incentive to make miners better and not with cheaper equipment to increase profit margins.
