2721  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Gas prices, why do people pay that much more for a "brand" on: August 08, 2020, 07:04:39 PM
I don't live in the US but I usually choose those cheaper, local brands. We have all those big ones like Shell and BP here, but it's the same gas. Some guys were even testing it in a lab for a YT video to see if they aren't cheating and giving you a bit less or mixed old gas with "fresh" and the results were more or less the same. The same amount (no cheating), all clean and fresh. I don't know why some people choose expensive gas. BP has a special offer for companies so I see a lot of busses and trucks there and small places don't have all that fuzz with fresh coffee and snacks.

When you get oil changes every 7500 miles and someone asks you "weren't you her this month already?" and you just nod and head for the free coffee & donuts you start to care...a lot.

Isn't that what rentals are for? I've done 4-5k on two-week rentals, far cheaper than maintenance and depreciation on your own car. Oil change warning comes up, call Hertz, they tell you to ignore it LOL.

And then some poor guy buys a 3 year old car and finds out the engine is basically dead because they were doing one oil change a year regardless of the distance it covered.

2722  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Masks rule goes into effect in England as Boris Johnson calls anti-vaxxers 'nuts on: August 08, 2020, 06:42:42 PM
Mask rules should go into effect, just wear it. You even get to cover your face from the government watching you. That's something, right?

I had this discussion with friends. We bought masks with teeth or skulls painted on them for fun and were once walking around a shopping center and some people were acting pretty weird around us, like they didn't know what to expect. In a normal situation, if you were approached by people in creepy masks, you'd be scared and expecting some aggressive language, but in these strange times, where we have to wear masks, people are starting to ignore them. So, last year if you came into a jewelry store with a mask on you'd see everybody tense up and demand you to take it off, now, nobody seems to care.
Another interesting thing that I've noticed is people are really staring into my eyes because they can't see any other expressions. They don't know if I'm smiling or frowning so they watch the eyes more carefully to know what to expect. Masks can have their benefits if you aren't too tense and able to have some fun in every situation.
2723  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What difficulty do you face on trading bitcoin? on: August 08, 2020, 06:28:10 PM
I face no difficulties at all. To be honest the only difficulty that I'm able to mention is the struggle to avoid centralized exchanges and either trade in person or using dex or semi dex platforms. Lately my favourite way of exchanging has been a physical currency exchange where you can simply come with your wallet, pay, wait for 1 confirmation and get cash. Since one bank gave me a warning for receiving money from a crypto exchange, I'm staying as far from them as I can. Fun fact, Bitcoin is legal here, but they can still deny you services if they're against cryptocurrencies for whatever reason.
2724  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why most people think Bitcoin is a scam? on: August 08, 2020, 06:19:36 PM
Who are those people that you're talking about? Remember that it's not the one who screams the loudest that we should follow, but usually that calm and slow one, who shows confidence and wisdom. The mainstream media are loud, but they lack merit. They repeat the same thing over and over and you feel like it's the stance of the majority. It is not!
2725  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Average Congressman has nearly 60 years. Can those grandpas regulate bitcoin? on: August 08, 2020, 06:11:17 PM
If only the world was like that and you had to be an expert to create laws in each and every field of science. Unfortunately, it isn't so. If you check the backgrounds of mmembers of parliament, you'll see that often a lawyer has a deciding vote in a health bill and a linguist creates or abolishes new taxes. The beauty of democracy Roll Eyes
2726  Economy / Economics / Re: Korea proposes 20% tax on crypto trading starting 2021 on: August 02, 2020, 04:46:21 PM
I'm against taxation in any form. 20% might be fine in countries where there's no VAT, but 20% of capital gains on top of your 10% VAT in Korea is already close to one third of your income. Still rather lenient when compared to some EU countries like France where the state basically rips people off in any way it can.
2727  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: More than 50% of bitcoins from Twitter hack have been sent through mixers on: August 02, 2020, 04:14:22 PM
If anything, I'm actually quite surprised that some of those hackers/scammers risked moving out the funds(14.4%) without actually mixing/coinjoining them lol. It just shows that some of those scammers probably don't have the slightest idea on what they're doing and some just got lucky tricking security-illiterate Twitter people by using the typical giveaway scam.

They could be good at whatever social engineering they used to get those emails and passwords but since Bitcoin is known as the money of the deep web and that currency that terrorists were using it was the obvious choice for these kids. They had no idea how to spend coins anonymously and the greatest proof to that is in the way they exchanged Bitcoins using Coinbase. I'm pretty sure they'll strike a deal and trade those coins for short jail time. If they don't they're dumb.
2728  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Ghislaine Maxwell Arrested on: August 02, 2020, 02:13:32 PM
As I understand it, there were quite famous people involved in pedophilia so she couldn't be arrested for so long. She should be happy that they didn't get rid of her because she knows too much.

This is what I was thinking here. With personalities involved, getting rid of her is so easy for them. I wonder if she will ever be convicted with her crimes. This is real telenovela in the making. What fate is she gonna have after all these years of being part in sex trafficking of children.

They were doing many things on that island of his.
There's a confession of his driver/bodyguard circulating somewhere on the web where he said that they had a kind of "roleplay" there in which they had a bull mask that each of the guests would take turns to wear each night. The masked person would then roam around the island doing whatever it is that they wanted, like having sex with whoever they asked and that chosen person had to obey them.
They also had kids there. He saw a french boy once who looked lost, scared and did not speak english. We can only guess what they needed foregin children for since there was no boarding school or an orphanage there.
2729  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Russia legalizing Bitcoin and cryptos but not allowed as payment method? on: August 02, 2020, 02:02:10 PM
Did they really legalize bitcoin? I think it's just words and nothing more.

You're not exactly right.
Legalization means it is recognized by law. You can own it, report gains, trade it and report it as stolen to the police. It doesn't mean you can pay wit it in a store.
Russians have laws protecting their currency and I believe it's in their constitution that the Rubble can be the only legal tender. Their constitution isn't untouchable as Putin managed to prove over and over but for now there's no strong support behind cryptocurrency so they won't change the existing laws.
2730  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are the chances of bitcoin taking another dive? on: August 02, 2020, 01:54:51 PM
The more time passes since the halving the more unlikely a fall to 5k range will become. Now we're still testing the waters, but what is happening now is a great indicator of a new bull market. The problem with TA based predictions for Bitcoin is that there are some external factors that can influence the price. Stocks and laws regarding Bitcoin in various countries are just 2 of those factors. You can have the greatest bullish setup and then Bitcoin gets banned in a few couyntries and that setup will turn into nothing.
That's for sure. The more time passes from the date of the division of bitcoin in half, the less likely it is that the price of bitcoin may fall to the lowest possible values. A correction is, of course, possible, this is a normal growth process in the cryptocurrency market.
Over the past hour, the price of bitcoin has dropped from $ 11,938 to $ 11,303. Is it just another wave or is it the beginning of a price correction?

It's definitely a correction, but while a correction in a bear market takes the price back up and then falls lower, a correction in a bull market takes us back down to finally push the price even higher. If we manage to stay above 10k for another couple weeks we will come back up to attack 12k resistance again.
2731  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is Bitcoin Looking Bullish now? on: August 01, 2020, 01:14:27 PM
The two factors that is disturbing in the bitcoin bullish move is the declining value of Dollar and the expected 2nd phase of the pandemic. The palliative maybe finding its way to cryptocurrency but it not solving the bad economic situation of the country. America is very important to the world economy because of the size and that the only consolation to the value of dollar. It might take time but it will stabilize at a point and I also hope vaccine will be available before the of the year

I believe there will be no second phase. The number of cases will continue to grow up to the point where all people in the world have gone past it or were vaccinated. There's no need to make a big deal out of it. It's going to be tough for old people but judging by the constantly growing number of reported cases and the small number of deaths, it's not going to be a total disaster, unless the governments decide to close the borders again and force people to stay at home for weeks.

BTC will probably do a small rally to test the last year's top of 13k and that's it. I don't think we are in a strong enough bullish setup to retest 17 or 20k this year. If it happens - great, but it's too early and the sooner it happens the weaker the rally will be.
2732  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin transaction was faster than a Bank transfer today (for me) on: August 01, 2020, 12:56:19 PM
For me it's always like this apart from sending money within the same bank. If someone is using the same bank it's instant and he'll have money on his account within 1 minute from me sending it, but this isn't that common. Between banks it's usually about 24 hours, which is already much slower than Bitcoin, that usually confirms in 1-2 hours if you go easy on the fee.
International bank transfers usually take around 3 working days, which can be a difference between life and death if someone you know is stuck abroad with no money and calls you asking for help.
2733  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Twitter Hackers Arrested! [Updated] on: August 01, 2020, 11:16:47 AM
If Twitter is hacked by 3 teenagers, then Twitter security system is the crappy.
And the funniest thing is that after hacking Twitter, they transferred the stolen cryptocurrency to their own accounts of the Binance and Coinbase exchanges.
Teenagers are accused of being able to destabilize the political situation in the world, but no one blames Twitter for a shitty security system

Definitely not the smartest move of their careers. Rather a career ending move Wink
Smart enough to hack tweeter, not smart enough to know which exchanges are the bigest rats in the industry. At least they had no Gemini accounts.

According to federal agents, Sheppard was found out partly because he used a personal driver’s license to verify himself with the Binance and Coinbase cryptocurrency exchanges, and his accounts were found to have sent and received some of the scammed bitcoin. Fazeli also used a driver’s license to verify with Coinbase,

These guys did full KYC there using their own documents which is already a strike even if you're a legit trader. If you want the IRS to have you on the list do KYC on coinbase. If you do it on CZ's platform who knows where it will end up. Probably sold to some chinese hackers.
Sending coins to coinbase - strike 2.
Sending stolen coins to coinbase - strike 3.

And you're out of the social life. Only butt sex for another 20 years and no money waiting for you when you get out.
2734  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A Late Show with Stephen Colbert calls bitcoin a scam on: August 01, 2020, 10:58:14 AM
Funny thing, but in the beginning of the part about Bitcoin (3:34) he says "bitcoin scam is anything involving Bitcoin".
So, folks, remember this one. Stephen knows what he's talking about and he's is telling you that if you buy Bitcoin, hold Bitcoin, trade Bitcoin, pay someone with Bitcoin, it's all a Bitcoin scam...

2736  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Twitter Hacker Arrested! on: August 01, 2020, 10:26:52 AM
Well, I can't imagine at that age that kid was expert on hacking, --that's an absolutely [extra ordernary] kid that we don't know why he becomes that famous hacker. That's just only a kid, how much more if that kid becomes mature I don't know how many becomes a victim of him. Indeed, that kid wasn't alone in this scam operation. Perhaps they are a group and maybe they target those big-time profiles at once in a time.

I have been researched what that kid his face looks like but I did not find it.

Have you ever heard of Kevin Mitnick?

At age 12, Mitnick used social engineering and dumpster diving[15] to bypass the punch card system used in the Los Angeles bus system. After he convinced a bus driver to tell him where he could buy his own ticket punch for "a school project", he was able to ride any bus in the greater LA area using unused transfer slips he found in a dumpster next to the bus company garage. Social engineering later became his primary method of obtaining information, including usernames and passwords and modem phone numbers.[16]

Mitnick first gained unauthorized access to a computer network in 1979, at 16, when a friend gave him the phone number for the Ark, the computer system that Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) used for developing its RSTS/E operating system software.[17] He broke into DEC's computer network and copied the company's software, a crime for which he was charged and convicted in 1988. He was sentenced to 12 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release. Near the end of his supervised release, Mitnick hacked into Pacific Bell voice mail computers. After a warrant was issued for his arrest, Mitnick fled, becoming a fugitive for two and a half years.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Mitnick gained unauthorized access to dozens of computer networks while he was a fugitive. He used cloned cellular phones to hide his location and, among other things, copied valuable proprietary software from some of the country's largest cellular telephone and computer companies. Mitnick also intercepted and stole computer passwords, altered computer networks, and broke into and read private e-mails.

Some kids are just smart. The only problem is they're going to make an example out of him to scare off possible followers and copycats.
2737  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Investment plan on: August 01, 2020, 09:36:36 AM
According to my choice Bitcoin and Ethereum is the best to invest without any doubt. But Ripple ,Eos and NEO is not right to invest. They don't have the hype they created in 2018-19.And I have faces a big loss from ripple and NEO.So if you wanna invest in these coin you have to think twice.I think everyone should have a bitcoin for long term hold and Bitcoin is the ultimate game changer. And recently DeFI project has created a havoc.
So my choice should be

1.Bitcoin 60% of your portfolio
2.20% Ethereum
3.Any DeFi project you can choose according to your choice such as Kyber,Bancor Compound ,Pikos etc.-10-20%

This isn't making it much better. OP is doing so many things wrong that I don't even know where to start and some of the posters in this thread (including you) are trying to make a bad decision a little less bad, instead of making it good. OP, I'll give you 2 pieces of advice:
Don't let some journalist tell you what to do with your money.
Don't ask random people in the Internet what you should buy or sell.

Cryptocurrencies aren't like stocks. They look similar, but buying a piece of XRP and BTC isn't like buying a piece of Amazon and and Apple. While BTC is a good investment, all centralized coins like XRP can disappear in an instant.

I'd go with 100% Bitcoin and be done with it.
2738  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why do hackers steal huge amounts of bitcoins? on: July 26, 2020, 06:43:30 PM
Have you ever heard of the people who want to see the world burn? Those are the kind of people you meet at school, where they destroy things just so others can't have it.
If a hacker can exploit a bug or something and get your money, he will do it even if it means the coins get burned or blocked and nobody will have them. They steal because they're opportunists and consequences don't matter. There's always a chance they'll get to spend them one day.
2739  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gaming Industry and Cryptocurrency! on: July 26, 2020, 06:14:13 PM

AR based games would be especially good for that. And I wish the online Second Life would implement cryptocurrency related scenes into its virtual world to educate people how to earn, hold  and spend it.

It would be easy for them as their current currency has been for many years used in the same way cryptocurrency is. You were able to buy things on dark web with L$ or convert them back to USD. There were people who worked full time earning them, just like freelancers working for Bitcoin.
2740  Economy / Exchanges / Re: in your opinion what would make you try to use a new cryptocurrency exchange? on: July 26, 2020, 05:58:56 PM
Probably the no fee option + an easy way to register and the ability to use the fiat currency of my choice would get me to join this new exchange, although I'd be a bit suspicious of the lack of fees, since running an exchange costs money. If they don't charge trading fees they have to be trying to make money somewhere else, like charging high withdrawal fees or preparing for an exit scam. You'll probably going to get the most real traders with total transparency and high volume on popular trading pairs like BTC/USD and BTC/ETH.
