Hello all

The OP is now at a higher resolution than before.

(And it has some other trivial improvements.)

2742  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XC][OFFICIAL] PoS/Privacy on: July 27, 2014, 06:35:43 PM
Ha looks like they have just about every crypto on there... I recently worked through the old thread for the DeFUD campaign so I'll send them a message and see what happens. I'll check out that thread as well.

Hey Driv3n. Exciting to hear about the progress of the DeFUD campaign. How far along are you?

I should be finished with the old thread today... then only 922 pages left of this one to read through haha.  So I guess I'm about 30% through everything.

Woah man. That's more than a little intimidating!

2743  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XC][OFFICIAL] PoS/Privacy on: July 27, 2014, 05:08:15 PM
Synechist, you may want to remove coinnext exchange from the OP. It appears to be out of commission.

Thanks. Nice one.

Whatever happened to pratico's $500 for a REV2 PR release?  Does anyone know?  Why has XC not used it yet??

It's all ready to go, and will be released approximately when the as-yet undisclosed Rev 2 privacy feature comes out. ;-)

Hello,

I might have missed it, but still.. Once this EM is done, will it be functional with 0 balance? Or is there a neccessary balance for this?

Thanks for the answers!

It's currently free.

May i ask if you can send offline messages, and in this case, are these stored on blockchain? Everything that is affecting blockchain could include a fee, but things that are sent directly through the network (multipath) should not include a fee. Imho you should not put a fee on "ip-traffic", thats just a service, same as for people who are providing bandwidth for the XC network.

Regards

XChat doesn't use the blockchain because then messages will be stored permanently, so if at any point in the future someone gains access to a private key, they'll be able to access your messages. Bad idea for privacy :-)

If you send to an offline user, your app will store the message locally (for max. 48 hours) until it connects to the recipient's app. This is just what the app does at present; it's not necessarily what it'll do in future.

XChat usage means more running apps, which means a more secure network, so we'll probably keep it free. :-)

Edit: oh and it's true P2P. It's a direct connection between nodes and is end-to-end encrypted. There's no need for forwarding or multipath because no record of the messages is left anywhere for anyone to track.

The block chain scaling can't be fixed.

"Can't" be fixed is a bold statement. Care to offer proof of that? Because there are ideas being developed for doing just that (that might not work).

"Fixed" for what purpose? Full mobile wallets?

This would be unlikely, but I'm open to persuasion.

2750  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XC][OFFICIAL] PoS/Privacy on: July 25, 2014, 01:58:22 PM
Hello everyone,
It has been a few weeks since I last made a post on these forums. Everything seems to be headed in the right direction as usual. I was one of the fortunate people to mine XC, and I am still holding every bit of my mining proceeds, plus a few more. I always said I was 100% a Long Term Investor in XCurrency.

I have dabbled in the crypto currency world for about 1 year. I have noticed that XCurrency is the first to release trustless 100% anon without block chain bloat. With even more features to be released that will make XCurrency bulletproof. Anon transactions are just being a small part of what XCurrency is about. With that said I am baffled by the insanely low price of XC. It appears that every time the devs release a new update with groundbreaking tech that no other coins can offer: the price of XC drops. For me it is a good thing because I am able to purchase more XC knowing my ROI is going to be rediculously high, but I am more concerned for the new investors who may not see the big picture, whom may lack the pateinces and have been contioned into thinking that all coins are just for pump and dump. There are a few bag holders in XC that could have cashed out many times, and walked away with many thousand of dollars, but they are holding, because they know patience is a virture that will pay handsomely in the end.

+1

Hi Evolution

Please read this:

You devalue yourself by being aggressive, insulting, or untruthful.

If you are not gracious to your opponents, then in what way can you consider yourself the "good guy" and them the "bad guys"?

Is there anything more that needs to be said about Jasin's ASIC business?

- These projects operate completely independently of each other, thus XC isn't affected by the ASIC developer who ran off.

- Jasin is a businessman with several ventures, which is entirely the norm. It's not reasonable to assume he was diluting his energies by getting involved in other projects.

- If you read the Litcoin thread, you'll see that Jasin's reason for not disclosing information to you earlier is that he did not want to spook the developer before he could get the funds back from him.

- Jasin has been frank, apologetic, and has remained in communication on the Litecoin thread.

- Jasin's reputation incentivises him to defend it and make amends.

So in my opinion the ASIC situation is unfortunate, but does not impinge on Jasin's character.

If you think that this closes the issue, then quote it to whoever keeps talking about it.

Kudos to Synechist...hope you're not married guy, there's no way you have much free time:P IMO you go way above and beyond what you need to for the community!

Heh. Thanks. I am married. But sometimes I don't get to have any sleep.

Thank you for quoting jasinlee , I really forgot about his answer.

Synechist, I know you guys got a plan, but that OP pdf needs to be emailed/shared/promoted to related media right now, it is way too sexy and is a real beacon to potential investors.

Heh. Indeed. The copy on that PDF will be adapted and used for all sorts of releases. :-)

[Personal summary of Jasinlee's ASIC project's problems]

Thanks for the information.

The thread heard about Jasin's ASIC project yesterday and a link to the litecoin thread was posted too.

No doubt this will affect XC.

However:

I would like Jasin to come forward and reply to this accusation. He is now associated with XC and the concerns of this individual need to be addressed to keep XC clean of any unwanted bad reputation.

Jasin posted yesterday about this:

As with most projects when you deal with multiple teams/projects, sometimes the 1 team does not stay current with the schedule. The ASIC is its own project, and the developer we had hired for the exchange has been fired due to his delays (and replaced). XC has its own team and I am only assisting with it where I can, other projects have no bearing on XC.

Cache is not a P&D, we still have all the coins and never sold them as any user can check. It is part of how we will build PoBC and is in ongoing development as you can see from the cachecoin thread.

Just to reiterate that all these projects, including XC, run completely independently of each other.

A delay - or increased workload - in one makes no difference to another.

Jasin has been - and continues to be - a great resource to the XC team, and we have no reason whatsoever to doubt his commitment or value.

If you have doubts, go look up Cachecoin's development and satisfy your curiosity about its future.

New OP looks great!  One suggestion, however -- text comes out a little blurry, can we update for higher resolutions?

A minor increase in resolution might be possible. However, if you increase by much more, then Bitcointalk starts autosizing each slice, to chaotic effect.

Either way, the entire OP can be downloaded and then the text is vectorised, so people can copy/paste.

I think some patience is necessary here. Let them finish Rev. 3, publish the whitepaper, and offer a big bounty for anyone who can break the anonymity of XCurrency. Those things will put us in the spotlight and get us all the attention we ever wanted. Days can seem like weeks in this fast paced crypto jungle but let's remember all our strengths and be content.

The thing is that support now matters.  Look at DRK.  Supposedly, we are all here because we think we have a better technology than DRK does, correct?  Yet DRK has a far higher market cap, far higher user base, etc.  They have that because they built support early.

Every day XC waits to build additional support is another day some other community gets to take that support and hold on to it. CLOAK is another instructive example.  If everyone thinking about CLOAK knew XC already had solved anonymity, they would be far less interested in CLOAK.  Instead, those investors do not believe XC has solved anonymity and are attracted to CLOAK as a solution.  So they become attached to CLOAK, and are less likely to support XC in the future.  This is not a good thing because (to the earlier point about Betamax and bluray) at some point the ship really does sail and all the proof in the world that your tech is 10% better won't matter because it won't be enough to overcome the disparity in community size.  Lots of coins have better tech than BTC, but Expedia doesn't use them as a payment solution because they can't compete with the early support BTC got...

So if we have the best anon lets start proving it rather than waiting around and assuming that will just work out fine.  XC would benefit by improving its messaging.

What are you suggesting we do?

Would you read my prior posts before replying?

It's uncommonly known that the XC team has a plan. :-)

I'm suggesting we write a whitepaper now rather than later, or at least have a good answer to the following:  Can you point interested users, service providers and investors to a concise explanation of why we have a better anon solution than any of the following coins they might choose from:

DRK
Vericoin
Cloak

And I'm not meaning high level statments such as "we have multipath" or "we have more nodes."  Why do those characteristics matter?  Under what scenarios is XC more secure?  Why would a payment processor, ecommerce marketplace, etc, choose XC over its competitors?

Or: what are the shortcomings to our anonymity solution?  What are the shortcomings of competing solutions?  These would all be valuable.

It's important that

- we do not publish our very valuable ideas before they are implemented

- we do not promise without being able to deliver

- nonetheless, we get the word out about that we have now

So a whitepaper is on the cards and in my opinion is best kept for Rev 3.

In the meantime there is a steady stream of daily communication from me to social media, the press, threads on Bitcointalk, etc. On occasion there are paid press releases. On occasion there are events, whether software releases or conferences.

I think that we're doing just fine for now.

If you think that XC should be well known already, well, these things just take time to disseminate.

Lastly your ideas about stating use-cases are solid. They're part of how I write. Nice one.
