Hi, just wondering how my bestever jumped from 2bill all the way up to 13 billion in about 6 hours @300th is that accurate? Current shares is 6 billion i think the rental went off for maybe one hour and came back on, best ever was at 2billion prior to that. Did it accidentally double after being down?
Once more: it's random. Shares don't "add up" to your best share.

Wow -- I got the 2 payments associated with the last block (payouts for 420988 and 421016)... However, I'm missing payments for 10 blocks found by kano from 420727 through 420981... I'll PM Kano with the details... I encourage everyone on here to check your payouts -- oddly enough this time frame is around the same time Moe7865(moecarrim) claimed to have had bitcoin stolen. I did NOT send any at his request to that wallet (Thanks to Phillips advice) -- so I'm not sure how I'm getting screwed on this end. I'm NOT claiming that it is Moe -- because I don't know -- it might be the same guy that stole coins from him -- I'm just saying it was around the same time frame... Like I said -- my wallet payout address is correct in my settings -- I don't see why I didn't receive the payments... I've changed my login password to kano -- just in case... P.S. I'm using Trezor... I highly doubt someone is targeting kano.is payout addresses. There is no way to "target an address". You can only target someone's PC, laptop, physical wallet etc. as nothing in an address tells you where physically the balance is "stored."

can any oldtimers shed some light on what happened with the previous halving? did quite a few people walk away or was the difficulty static compared to the current arms race?
Difficulty rose just before the halving as people turned on old inefficient miners for their last chance of getting a 50btc block. After the halving the hashrate and diff remained high for a while with the extra hardware turned on and slowly dropped over the next 3 months to a new baseline, lower than before but nowhere near half the pre-halving hashrate. Price was completely unaffected as expected as there is nothing surprising about the halving - if you know in advance the rate of supply, it won't have any effect on the value of something. Speculating on bitcoin can't be dictated by unexpected changes in supply since there aren't any, only demand. An awful lot of people miss that - mining has no direct effect on the value of bitcoin, and neither does the halving.

So renting 1ph for a couple of hours isnt a good idea? Better to rent say, 100th for a week?
It makes no difference either way. 1PH for an hour has exactly the same chance of finding a block as 100TH for 10 hours. The only difference to you is that you get to watch your rental for longer with the lower hashrate.
|
|
|
So how long will 1ph take to reach 213billion shares that we are aiming for?
There is no "reach". Mining is not a forward process but a random one. On average every 213 billion shares you will solve a block. 1PH will on average find a block every 10 days 14 hours which is pretty sad really.

|
|
Sorry for noob question but what does best share mean? Are we trying to aim for the 50+billion mark?
You're aiming for the current diff of 213,398,925,331. Anything less is worthless. Anything greater than or equal to that is worth a shitload of money. Showing the best share is only there for a bit of fun as it has no other value.

Whats the real world or practical chance of getting a block solved by Solo mining with smaller graphic cards like 7970?
ZERO

I am totally new to Bitcoing mining. I understand how it works.
I have 3 computers PC at home- A fixed workstation, (powerful) and 2 laptops
Then you don't understand how bitcoin mining works. You cannot mine bitcoin just with computers any more no matter how powerful they are. You need to buy an ASIC miner of some sort to mine bitcoin which you then connect to your lan. The computers are only good to help you configure the asic miners and then they do nothing in the mining process any more.

I just watched a weird message go by in cgminer, from my gekko stick that is pointed here. It said something like the pool was notifying me of a new bestever share for user 3402838 or something like that. Is that new, does the pool broadcast whenever a worker gets a new bestever share?
Correct, this pool does. It notifies you of worker's best share and user's best share as they happen.

Hi, it seems that my shares were "reseted", is that normal? Does that mean that I lost all the shares I had submitted previously or that doesn't matter when mining solo?
Does not matter. Shares mean nothing with solo mining. They're only there for feedback that you're hashing. The reset was probably due to the downtime.

Pool back online again, sorry about the inconvenience.

Through some kind of stupid confusion I missed out on an email from the hosting provider saying they were moving the hardware with some pretty serious downtime. Abusing people at the provider right now but it will still be a little while before it's up again. Sorry about the inconvenience. de is still online but there's no point changing to that for now since master will be up again soon.

Note I will be performing upgrades on various pools and redirectors and they will appear to be offline for a while as I redirect them to the main pool temporarily. If I do this right, most of you will not notice anything but redirects, but rentals do not usually support redirection so it would be a good idea to avoid doing any rentals over the next 24 hours.
This set of upgrades is complete and went smoothly. DNS updates should be caught up by now and have you back on the correct pool if you start mining again now. Most of you wouldn't have noticed anything unless you were watching your cgminer consoles to see the redirections. Those of you that were on the de pool will have switched to the master pool and you may need to restart your miners to force them back to the de pool.

I was just copying and pasting those instructions to state that I HAD indeed followed those instructions but nothing happens (either on my end or on pool)
OK, well hopefully -ck will chime in on your problem. I don't think I've seen him around in a while though. Good Luck. I'm currently travelling but will be back in a day or so. The tube proxy may need a kick in the balls or it may have nothing to do with the pool itself, but I can't check from here. The tube proxy did indeed need a kick. It's back online now. The rise in hashrate is an anomaly we saw around the last halving as well. Everyone turned everything on to try and get some of the last 50 btc blocks at the time and it took a month for the hashrate to settle down to its new level which ended up lower than the baseline before it. No doubt something similar is happening this time. The only variable that changes that equation is that S9s are now moving into circulation which bring a new rise in overall hashrate.
