2781  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How A Newbie Can Neither Lose Coins Nor Fall Victim To Digital Theft on: January 15, 2016, 08:29:13 AM
it was already posted by litecoinguy, anyway the best protection is always the user itself, so choosing one of those wallet is indifferent if he have not the knowledge

many people are too lazy to secure their own money, it's the reason why they want to store them in a bank or secure them always online(web wallet)...

Web wallet is scary on big amount's there.  I enjoy reading favorite btc wallet in beginner thread it's surprising how many pick online hot wallets.

I have become a fan of hardware wallets and paper.   Still use some in hot wallet.  But for most part hardware and paper wallet I feel much safer.  Hardware I keep some that I do possibly use.  And paper is the long term storage for me that I dont touch.
2782  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: More info about investing in BTC on: January 15, 2016, 08:26:36 AM
Can someone experienced explain more about investing in BTC? Is it basically buy low, sell high or is there more to it?

Yes it's about buying bitcoin when the price low and selling bitcoin when the price high, and you also need to see the speculation of the bitcoin price because from that you can predict the price.

Predict is to strong of word I would stick with speculate.  Like now with drop in price to around 400 chances are most did not predict that.   And a lot of speculators were wrong.

Speculation can be very far off.  There is nothing that is certain.
2783  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Replacing the Fan on an S5 on: January 15, 2016, 08:21:53 AM
Thanks for the info about ordering fans.  I'm attempting to quiet the miner to make it more "wife friendly"  Smiley

You picked a miner that is not great on that sadly.  The S5 runs hot and loud.  You chances are can find a way to make it quieter, but I think it would take a lot to make it quiet.

With winter you might be able to use some cold from it to help allow less RPM's.   But kinda a short term fix on that.
2784  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: January 15, 2016, 08:19:55 AM
Well its definately now cheaper then before.

Price:       2.4 BTC
               ( 960 USD )

Will be interesting to see what happens they had it on fixed BTC as it seemed to be rising and was better then fixed USD.  I really would not be surprised if we see a switch back to fixed USD  if it drops much more.

Or I could be wrong and they sell at lower price hoping for more sales.
2785  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Any suggestions on bitcoin mining on: January 15, 2016, 08:12:06 AM

thanks for the advice amph Cheesy i appreciate it. ok i better buy used miner. BTW where can i buy used miner?

Amazon usually has some listings, Ebay almost always has some, there's a marketplace forum here but you'll have to do a bit of digging through non-miner post headings, Craigslist usually has a few but likely not in your area (though some of us ARE willing to ship for the right price)....

Ebay you get paypal protection from a dud, but you are paying extra.  Miners on the forum tend to sell for less then ebay (makes sense with ebay + paypal fees).   And part of it depends on what miner your trying to buy.

The board you have to wait for a deal sometimes.  Where ebay seems to be more constant stream of miners. (And again depends on unit a lot I'm sure are on sell in forum now).
2786  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Antminer S7+ somewho knows anything? on: January 15, 2016, 08:09:54 AM
I'm smelling something new from bitmain next week... Maybe a new Batch, or maybe a new miner version, or something else...  Roll Eyes

Most likely I think it will be a new batch as were so close to batch 9 being here.  So it is almost certain that will happen.  Possibly a little pricedrop will come with it.

But I think a little longer before we see next gen stuff.  I could be wrong I just think current gen at lower price is most likely. And that is pure speculation I have no good solid info on that.

There so much speculation nowadays surrounding mining due to the upcoming halving so bitcoin price COULD rise as it becomes rarer but of course your mined coins will be cut in half as well. To maintain current ROI levels, the bitcoin price should at least double its prices when the halving happens or else you could be in a loss. But who knows, we can only speculate at the moment.

the mined coins will NOT be cut in half, only next rewards...  Shocked

And we talk about rise but look at what it's doing now.  Were around 400 on BTC.... so we took a big drop from 440's of weeks ago.   Not fun to see.

No one really knows value though at having.  Just to many unknowns.   I am not sure how it will turn out then.
2787  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Newb - Is mining worth it with a low budget? on: January 15, 2016, 08:08:04 AM
no, but a s7 will not cost you much more than the gpu, one is 700 euro the other 1250

and the s7 can mine bitcoin, altcoin are also heavily in asic now, and thus that ar enot, are not very profitable, you can be lucky some time and find one profitable for a short time, but it's not worth the effort...

The GPU might hold value longer depending on how long till next release (have not kept up with GPU's for a while).  But even buying mining and selling it I don't see much profit if any.

Asics control pretty much everything.  And a lot of the scrypt asics seem to be secret.  SFards went dark.. and mined it themselves.  So hard to tell if anyone else out there did this to.
2788  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Jan 13 to Jan 27 picks are closed. on: January 15, 2016, 08:05:03 AM
Yeah I know this isn't a BTC price speculation but in the short/medium term, I see it going a little lower with those failed highs recently.

removed pic for space

...and you were right, we are touching 400 now. Crashing through 400 support would be really bad news.

It's dropping fast ouch all we can do is hope sale walls hold up.   I really don't want to go under 400 again.

Am I missing any bad news? I saw Cryptsy went bad.  But nothing that I thought would cause this drop.
2789  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [RUN 2 NOW OPEN][SIDEHACK STICK]GekkoScience Compac Official sales thread on: January 15, 2016, 07:12:54 AM
Even if he bought from a reseller like CrazyGuy, and after adding in shipping and a Y adapter and eBay fees, he's probably still making about twice the profit that I am.

I would have not sold to him if I would have known he was going to do that.   He sit on the 3 i sold him since before batch 2 was shipping. Guess he had a long term idea on sale.

I guess I can't control other people.   But 80 dollars... that is crazy + his listing ... add another reason I don't like ebay.  I think they are all stolen pictures just with a boarder on them.  I can't find them but I could have swore the ones on table are my own.

*Edit yea only last 60 day's can I see on auction.   I can't see on the 3 he bought from me as it's been months if he stole pictures off table, but I'm pretty sure those were my photos.
2790  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [RUN 2 NOW OPEN][SIDEHACK STICK]GekkoScience Compac Official sales thread on: January 15, 2016, 07:01:28 AM
Ebay listing number 291654581974 ? I'm not sure whose listing that is. I didn't have any big batches ship to a guy in Virginia.

Also there are several untruths present in the listing. No Compac has yet been made with salvage chips; all of mine and MacEntyre's were made with new ASICs purchased directly from Bitmain. Nobody has reported hashing at 36GH/s with a Compac; that would require being able to run at 650MHz and I don't know of a stick that's yet hit 500MHz - not even Max. Also the entire paragraph "This means you can mine with MORE HASHING POWER than any AntMiner widely available as ENERGY USAGE is factored into account.  This means you can mine silently and profitable for long after those big Mining Rigs shut down because of their huge electricity bills" is somewhere between misleading and outright lying. "Homemade" is also a bit of an insult. Also, to get 16-21GH by definition requires tweaking and overclocking - unless this seller is doling them out preset at a ridiculously high voltage, which kills any efficiency claim or ability to run on stock USB power.

With that much markup, it's probably a reseller from a reseller. Course that does include shipping and, apparently, a Y adapter.

When I sold batch 1's thinking I could get more money and buy more batch 2's that guy who listed that bought from me.   I think I sold him 3 (if I remember right).  He was wanting more then I had so he might have went to other sellers to.   But if he get's that 80 dolllar.... he made far more then me.  Are people paying 80? Really?
2791  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Who is who in the PSU world?? on: January 15, 2016, 06:57:23 AM
Thank you to you all! Very informative! I believe I am going to go with a brand new ATX from what I have seen from everyone.  I really like having the backup of a warranty if something went wrong. I guess it's time to check out some of these manufacturers? I'm guessing that buying straight from the manufacturer is best?

Posted From bitcointalk.org Android App

I really suggest giving server PSU's one more look.  They really have kinda taken over on mining, lower cost and normally good to great quality.   And they have a lot more PCIe cables on some then most ATX's use.

But if you do go ATX you don't have to get from manufacture.  I like newegg on RMA they are pretty good if needed.  Amazon is a given to.   Just keep all the info about how long warranty goes to with receipt.  Having the proof of purchase showing date is what they will want on RMA.

But again I really stress looking at a nice server psu.
2792  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Hands On] Bitmain AntMiner S7 - Batch 8 - Notlist3d on: January 15, 2016, 06:53:09 AM
Anyone have experience using the S7 in an upright position where it's sitting on a wire shelf with the exhaust fan pointing to the ceiling and the intake fan at the bottom?  I'm hearing that this would increase the risk of the heat sink falling and burning out the boards but when I look at the pictures of the internal, regardless of what position there will always be some heat sink that will be in a vertical position.  Any other reason why I should avoid this particular configuration?  Intake air wont be block as it's wire shelves below have plenty of gaps for air.  My goal is to point all the exhaust fans to the ceiling Vent for better efficiency.

I have had good luck with laying regular.   I do use some extra fan's to pump all the hot air though the miners quickly and twords my exhaust.  So far have had good luck with it (winter has helped to ofcourse).

It's a interesting idea on risk of heat sink falling being more likely.  I'm not sure that the weight of being turned up would do it or not.  But it would be getting the board hotter exhaust on back of boards instead of top so depending on how good the adhesive is you might have problems from the heat in a different pattern then they tested.

Do you no have the space to push the air through it normal with laying down?   Is space the issue where you have miners? Or are you just wanting to do a different setup?
2793  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Jan 13 to Jan 27 picks are closed. on: January 15, 2016, 06:44:59 AM
Yeah I know this isn't a BTC price speculation but in the short/medium term, I see it going a little lower with those failed highs recently.

It's going to get hard to mine if difficulty keeps rising like it does and BTC does not head in the up direction.  I'm afraid of what halving will look like... that could really hurt if this trend continues.

Mining is getting harder and harder.
2794  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Why no bitcoin mining farms in Sahara? on: January 15, 2016, 06:39:58 AM
Other problems are minor if people really want it. The only major problem will be the higher maintenance cost in cooling the miners.
Sahara could really be a powerhouse of renewable energy but is not a suitable place for mining farms.
We can see large mining farms in cooler part of the world like China, Russia, north Europe.

This threadd is one that at least got a smile when I read it.  The anwser is in the post title.  It's missing the "desert" part.  Yes night might be cold but day you are fighting being in a desert.

There are far better places to build at with cheap electricity and not in a desert.  This is one of the last locations I would look at for hosting.

Better smile would be to put the rigs inside a container under the sand then use the solar and wind energy to create electricity that will cool off the container with strategically created exhaust. Then at night, there should be a way to let the cool outside air to let it do its thing on the miners. Lots of effort though but could be a possibility to some but for me better yet bring it to Sweden Smiley

Also you would be dealing with sand.... imagine trying to keep big fan's clean and not allow that stuff in data center.   Sounds like a lot of filters to prevent sand... and a lot of cleaning over and over as sand comes with being in desert.

So even at night might not be so easy with the sand going all over.  I think it's a pretty bad idea.
2795  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Mining Datacenters by MW on: January 15, 2016, 06:37:51 AM
Yeah, but when you get down to it 128MW are owned by one entity--which also happens to be the entity that claims to have the most efficient chips. That's kinda scary!

I find it very scary aswell they seem to be only one pumping out next gen and if they have specs that were reported they are making a killing. Also they chances will ROI on a lot of machines before other companies even get next gen chips. So when they have ROI'ed and rest is pure profit... that is really scary as what do they do?

My fear is they sell tons of BTC and drag down price. I hope that does not happen though.
2796  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Alternate Coins on: January 15, 2016, 06:32:23 AM
I am new to Crypto Currency so just don't mind if my questions are stupid.

I am curious why people invest in alternate coins. They don't value much in market as much as compared to bitcoins.

Any suggestion of alternate coin which is easy to earn and value much is welcome.

altcoins dont have much value like bitcoins coz they are only like secondary currency from bitcoins and most people buy altcoins to use in trading coz trading can make profit fast if you know what you are doing
Any suggestions of altcoins which are good for trading??

Sadly most are pump and dump anymore which means there are a lot of coins... and a lot of crap coins.  Personally I keep most of mine in BTC.  I'm mining BTC and holding it long term.  That is my strategy.

You can gain quick with altcoins but can lose just as fast.
2797  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: January 15, 2016, 04:50:27 AM
what is that a picture for ants? I can't see that.

the picture is for antminer u3. it's make me confused.

He was joking on ant's.  But your image is far to small to see anything.  Pull it up and it is tiny... unreadable.

Try uploading to different site or something as that will not help.  Below is size you have it at...

try this.

What is the exact command you are using to start cgminer? Also have you updated to the latest version of cgminer?

Are you running cgminer from a .bat file or are you using the command line?

You should really be creating a .bat file in your cgminer directory and adding this line to it:

cgminer.exe -o <YOUR POOL> -u <YOUR USERNAME> -p <YOUR PASSWORD>

THen once cgminer starts, if the u3 doesn't show up, unplug the USB cable and Plug it back in.

Also you are power these with a PCI-E cable correct?

I suggested a basic one a bit ago - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=827356.msg13546056#msg13546056 don't think it was tested.  It is a good way just to see if cgminer sees it.  And use latest cgminer I believe.

I am thinking about selling a R1 possibly... if anyone is looking for one to control a U3.
2798  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: January 15, 2016, 04:48:09 AM
Just want to say my miners were delivered today and appear to be running without any problems. Thanks to the mining company that mistakenly got them for taking good care of them & thanks to Bitmain for helping relieve my worries.

Glad to hear it all worked out!  I didn't think a company dealing with that many would take time to mess with you.  But glad to hear it confirmed.

Having a good story is always better in the end for all parties of a deal.
2799  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Hosting: how to start on: January 15, 2016, 04:44:56 AM
Remote hosting is intrinsically risky and there isn't a way around it other than escrowed $/btc for the value of hardware held.
with your reputation, no one will trust you. why not buy the miners and set them up yourself? You said you have cheap electricity and you can earn a lot of money? If you lack of capital, you could find some investors in your local.

I have cheap electricity and I could find the capital, but I don’t want to invest 12-15K more in the Bitcoin mining industry. I have 6 miners and it's the amount I'm comfortable with for now.

Since I have space and cheap power, I'd like to earn some money by taking care of miners and by slowly growing my own farm.

The problem is hosting at @ 0.085$ / Kw is not that great.   And add ontop of that being new.... you will get zero customers.

True "cheap" electricity is a decent amount less still.  I suggest not go to deep in this idea as I see zero customers picking you as of now.
2800  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can i Mine with a dual core CPU? on: January 15, 2016, 02:56:59 AM
yes you can mine with any computer but you will consume energy in vain.
You can make more bitcoin with faucets than mining with your pc Smiley)

Neither are a good idea.  Mining with CPU is going to be at a loss unless "free" electricity then you still are just not making anything.  Dual core is nothing in processor power.  And even if you have a 32 cor VPS unless you are on promo you won't make anything.  GPU's cost so much chances of even paying for GPU is pretty much none with so litle of income.

And faucets are pennies per hours.  So horrible way to spend your time.  Your better off buying 5 dollars of BTC and you likely saved weeks of faucets.
