2781  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is bitcoin bear market over? on: August 16, 2022, 11:05:14 AM
We will know the bear market is over only after some time it has ended and the price starts "flying" upwards.
Right now we are in the uncertainty area: the bear market may or may not have ended.
I expect we will know for sure before Christmas.

PS. Your poll is missing "I don't know/I am not sure"
2782  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: crypto that was never recived on: August 16, 2022, 10:49:44 AM
Thing is i use a Quick access wallet online
 https://wallet.mymonero.com/
So how am i suppose to update an online wallet ?? Shouldnt the online wallet been updated by its self? The issue is as you mention probobly with the big update..

It's not you who has to update, obviously; it's the website owner who has to update. But being the most known (imho) online service for Monero wallet, I'd expect they did and the exchange didn't. However, as I said, ask the support. Ask the support of MyMonero; ask the support of the exchange.

Properly equipping the high skilled users with adequate tools, would empower them to create better systems for the less exposed citizens.

While Android development allows one make his tools compatible with (very) old devices, those old devices may not even support the newest Google Play services, hence no need to spend the time.
There are many phone makers who sell pretty cheap devices having not too old Android - there the devs could work by making apps much less resource hungry (!) to acomodate to the cheap devices.
And if we discuss about "dumb-phones", then the apps are flashed with the OS, afaik, hence the devs cannot do anything.

So from what I see, it's not that much the devs can do, even with "proper tools". Still, paying more attention to the resources would be nice.
2784  Other / Meta / Re: [SURVEY] Who thinks the Lemmings should also be removed as Merit Sources? on: August 16, 2022, 10:36:50 AM
No - the merit sources should stay as is.

This is my vote (too). The drama about Trust is one thing, meriting posts that deserve it is another thing. Yes, sometimes people merit posts expressing views on the trust system, and yes, people tend to merit the posts expressing views similar to their own instead of good posts, still, the merit system is imho in a much better shape now that it was 1 year ago (just a random date in the past) and I don't want to risk making it worse (we do need the merit sources).

And back to the Trust system, that one may need improvements. People removing themselves from DT1 or clearing their trust lists are just a symptom of all that. And those are valid choices; people should not be punished for that.

Edit:
The topic title already gave away a prejudiced view from you

I don't agree with OP, still, I find it a valid question. Not really worthy for a poll, still, a valid question.
2785  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Street Selfie? Why all these crazy requirements in the name of KYC verification? on: August 16, 2022, 09:30:13 AM
Remember, back then, all that most services required were the front and back part of your ID or passport before they started asking for simple selfies.

Since then they've noticed that sending pictures can easily mean nothing at all, since everything can be faked with enough skill.
So what they do is making everything more difficult. Which was proven (so many times) to be plain stupid, since it makes the life of normal people more difficult, make everything more costly and, as we all know, will most probably not stop the (ever growing number of) scammers.
2786  Economy / Economics / Re: How micro payments can help to alleviate global poverty on: August 16, 2022, 08:00:48 AM
[~snip~] I have seen people using cellphones to make digital payments using a centralized payment method, called MPESA ...so even with very limited resources, people are still able to make transactions. (They charge cellphones with small solar panels and/or petrol generators for the community)

We (1st world countries) should find ways to make payments on Bitcoin easier and more user friendly, so that payment on ALL phones can be possible. (not just fancy smart phones)  Roll Eyes

I use centralized payment methods (Revolut), I use mobile banking, and I use Bitcoin.
Sending money through centralized system is very easy, since the centralized system can always find simple ways to get in touch with its other users, and if a bad transaction happens, they can even undo it, since.. it's centralized. Compared to that, mobile banking is already overly complicated (even card payment is).

Bitcoin is - or should be - on the same level as mobile banking. You know the recipient addresses and you send an amount.
LN should be like credit card.

Now, as I said, centralized payment systems are much easier, no matter what we simplify. Giving them a centralized system based on Bitcoin is not really a step forward (not your keys, not your coins). And if we add on top the fact that Bitcoin comes with various fees (and I talk about conversion from/to fiat) and its price is fluctuating a lot... I am not sure it will help them. They don't afford to lose any penny.
2787  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can making a wallet make you rich? on: August 16, 2022, 07:47:37 AM
Most wallets earn from commission through additional from the fee that they're asking to their users. It's aside from the network or transaction fee, they're adding a bit from there.

I have a feeling you have no idea what you're talking about. Unless it's a custodian service (which is not really a proper wallet, since it's not your keys it's working with), a wallet doesn't charge extra fees. So all the fees are miner fees and the wallet developer earns nothing off it.
Custodian services do ask you to overpay for the fee and many make money off that, but, as I said, those are not really wallets (although I know that many tend to use even exchanges as wallet services).
2788  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: crypto that was never recived on: August 16, 2022, 07:43:01 AM
Where is the problem, the exchange site never got the monero it seems? But why is my wallet pending the amount and why wont it bounce back?

When you spend Monero it may take many minutes until the rest of your balance is properly spendable (including the change).
Even more, not long ago Monero had a big update (possibly hard fork). If the wallet you're using or the exchange didn't update, one of them may be working with the wrong blockchain.
Since you've been using 3rd party services, you'll have to ask their support and track your problem. From what I see, it's not an issue of Bitcoin or Monero, it's some service's problem.
2789  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Moving to a new laptop on: August 15, 2022, 08:41:54 PM
Can anyone provide a link to a handy step by step guide to "migrating your Electrum wallet to a new PC"?

You restore the wallet using the seed phrase. Basically that should be it.

What happens if I download Electrum onto my new laptop? Will my Bitcoin now be visible on both computers or do I make this one my "single wallet" as it were..?

Since the coins are not in the wallet, they're "on the blockchain" or "on the network" (overly simplified explanation), yes, both wallets should see (and work with) the same funds.
After you can see properly the funds on the new wallet, you can remove the old one if you want to. Or not. As you prefer.

I will add that Electrum on Windows is just as safe as your Windows system (so malware is a real threat). So if you have meaningful funds in your wallet you may consider getting a hardware wallet and move your funds there.
Also, with the wallet on 2 PCs, there are 2 places that can get malware/hack (also you have to be overly careful if you ever want to sell/give away the older PC, some people do know how to recover even removed wallets).
So another worthy "path" could also be to make a new wallet on the new PC and send the funds there (but, again, I prefer the path of hardware wallet, which in my case can be used with Electrum).
2790  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can making a wallet make you rich? on: August 15, 2022, 02:19:31 PM
What if go the other way? Offer a crypto wallet to the community for a one-time payment or a subscription model. In this case, the creator will not need to collect user data for subsequent sale, and users will be spared from "spying" on their data. I think it's a win-win situation. Personally, I have not heard of such wallets for which you would have to pay, as for the purchase of any software. In this case, developers will need to have an impeccable reputation so that users can fully trust them, especially for their money.

Since there are already free wallets in use, I don't think that there will be users willing to pay for such a subscription.
So unless the wallet has some very good and useful features nobody else has implemented (situation that probably cannot last long), why would someone pay for a product he can get for free?
2791  Local / Altcoins (Monede Alternative) / Re: Posta Romana lanseaza o colectie de 160 NFT on: August 15, 2022, 08:48:42 AM

Ooooo, felicitari, s-au aranjat in sfarsit lucrurile! Doamne-ajuta!

2793  Other / Meta / Re: Campaign to improve posting quality for local boards on: August 15, 2022, 08:31:06 AM
For new topics:
  • Presentation of guides / tutorials / insightful topics where many people could be interested in
  • Innovative giveaways

Comments in existing topics:
  • Is your comment helpful for OP?
  • Contributing interesting content and providing insights instead of just rehashing what’s already been said / uninteresting fluff / guessing needlessly

For new and existing topics:
  • Dividing your article / topic into meaningful sections, using sub-headlines, highlighting important parts. Nobody wants to read a text block of 10-15 consecutive lines
  • Exposing and removing spam and scam [1]
  • Using pictures / tables / lists, to visualize complex content [3]
  • Good Memes.

I've started seeing too many guides/tutorials made by people who don't know the matter deep enough, hence they're full of mistakes misguiding newbies into making errors.
So I strongly advise those who are unsure about their new topics, add at least a "please tell about the errors so I can update the first post" disclaimer, to avoid harsh replies.

Also I tend to give more credit to an useful answer, even if it may be an one-liner, than a meme.

But overall you're correct (although I expect exactly the worse shitposters won't read or won't care about this kind of guidelines).

DT support

Our campaign is intended to be a very broad and international campaign, so it would be useful if we can present it at our local boards as a campaign supported by many DT members.
If your are a frequent DT member, we would be happy to receive your endorsement.

I think that this is wrong and can be misinterpreted (I see that some already thought that you're asking for trust feedback). Also DT comes and goes, the list can be reshuffled and one will no longer be DT for a while (especially if DT2).
I think that you need this from all users, especially Merit Sources (although some don't like to say they're merit sources) and users with high amount of merit, i.e. those who may actually merit those posts.

So:
Code:
I’m in support of improving posting quality as suggested by 1miau and GazetaBitcoin.

but I say this not as DT, but as user of bitcointalk.
2794  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: HELP,I am New to bitcointalk want to post about my busines on: August 15, 2022, 08:10:48 AM
yes i have a website but for that i want to creat another post on the right place at bitcointalk, here at this post i want to collect information about posting there my contacts or link things u know.i will make a proper post where all about my busines will be visible and fair. Smiley

* take a look in the service announcements how did others make announcements (look especially for those starting with [ANN])
* make your ANN with as much info about the company as possible, presented nicely and easy to read (not a 2-liner, not a wall of text)
* stay available for questions, expect people questioning your business, especially at start; keep in mind that some will be nice, some may be harsher if they find mistakes or fishy or unclear things

Keep in mind that you, as newbie, won't be able to put images. If that's important for you, also consider acquiring copper membership.
2795  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can making a wallet make you rich? on: August 15, 2022, 08:05:44 AM
Can making a wallet make you rich?

It will most probably not make you rich, unless you make a malicious wallet that steals people money, but it can earn nice bucks.

Some things that come into my mind is:
- put ads on the wallet, especially on smartphones
- strike deals with other companies, like for selling/buying crypto directly from inside the wallet
- sell user and chain analysis data (especially, since one can buy/sell crypto, you may need to ask for KYC)

Also sometimes, but rather seldom, wallets or programmers get into financing programs from the richer companies (sometimes this also asks for some specific features though).

However, if you start all this from the idea to get rich, your mindset may not be OK and I expect you'll do, sooner or later, something fishy (like selling user data) just for the sake of money, ruining your and your wallet's reputation completely and throwing to the bin a great amount of work.

1.25 BTC

Cred ca ai vrut sa scrii 1.25 mBTC  Wink, cel putin asa reiese din topicul in Germana. 1.25 BTC ar fi imens pentru asemenea concurs.

Multumim pentru cuvintele frumoase!
O sa ma gandesc bine si o sa incerc sa particip, multumesc de invitatie (si de concurs, bineinteles)!
2797  Economy / Gambling / Re: I Have a Question ~ Are 1xbit Campaigners Playing on 1xbit? on: August 13, 2022, 10:32:32 AM
I am just curious to know

I was expecting a lot of answers from those users (easy way to fill quota, you know), but, surprisingly, none has come yet.
But I am curious what you expect to see as answers. I mean, we already know that the campaign in question has taken problematic accounts and shitposters. Would you really expect honest answers from those? Do you expect a meaningful discussion with those?
2798  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum New UX/UI. on: August 12, 2022, 10:58:15 AM
But the design of the Android app repels many People.
It just upsets me.

My words were about Electrum for PC. I don't know what's the status of Electrum for Android since I don't use it because it doesn't work with hardware wallet.
So Electrum for Android may need something more than just fancier UI.
2799  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How to Know the right crypto project to invest in on: August 12, 2022, 10:47:30 AM
Considering rate at which hundreds of cryptocurrencies are flooding the blockhain space it seems digital currency is taking over the fiat. But the question now is how does one get to know the right crypto project to invest in?

Bitcoin is the safe bet.
And those who fancy higher risk gambling with their funds, there are a lot of altcoins to choose. Some few may get lucky.

Conclusion: too hard to choose right if you want something else than Bitcoin. So.. just choose Bitcoin.

PS. Not a financial advice, do with your money whatever suits you best.
2800  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Is it worth collecting old ASIC miners? on: August 12, 2022, 09:29:58 AM
Given Scrypt was the original format of Bitcoin

I don't know if it only bad choice of words, but this looks like a mistake / incorrect statement to me. Bitcoin was not Scrypt. Litecoin was.

I've been thinking in the past to acquire an USB miner. At first I wanted it for hobby mining, then as a collectible, now I've given up completely the idea. And this is my answer to OP: I think that they can be seen as collectibles, but only with a limited value which may not grow much over time, unless you know how to monetize them (and open some sort of museum, for example).
