2781  Other / Meta / Re: Did you notice that forum have fewer trolls in 2021? on: September 12, 2021, 08:46:54 PM
Oh, I get what you're saying, OP.  It took me a minute to figure it out--there have been fewer accusations of trolling in the past 3 years, based on the use of the word "troll", right?

That might be because Lauda, TECSHARE, Vod, and some others have left the forum (though those members left more recently than 2019).  I think I recall Lauda in particular using "troll" a lot, and TECSHARE as well.  I'm not sure your data reflect anything more than that, but it is interesting nonetheless.

I'd be more interested to see the change in the usage of the term "shitpost" or "shitposter" since 2017.  I'd bet it's decreased somewhat.
2782  Economy / Economics / Re: Food prices doubled this year on: September 12, 2021, 07:17:27 PM
Inflation seems to be at its peak, at least here in Greece, with food and basic necessities seeing a large price increase the past few months. The electricity cost has also increased for the average household. On top of that, fuel prices are on the rise, with an average of 1.70-1.75€ per liter of unleaded petrol.
I wouldn't count on it being at its peak, as things can always get worse--but for your sake and the sake of your country, I hope it's true.

Over here in the US, it seems like inflation is ramping up and who knows when the peak is going to be?  I'm betting that it's not going to be soon, especially with Biden's economic policies.  He seems to love giving money away, and the net result is an extra tax on every single citizen in the form of inflation.  He didn't start this mess of course, but he's not making it any better.  I've seen prices of certain things increase since last time I posted in this thread, which wasn't too long ago.

Anyone know if hyperinflation comes on slowly or all at once?  That's what I'm worried about.
2783  Other / Meta / Re: Editing plagiarism, after detection on: September 12, 2021, 05:44:12 PM
For this case, leaving a source as Google is very lazy and unacceptable (in my opinion) at least, it shows that poster does not claim the ownership of that content.
It's especially unacceptable if the source is Goggle.  I get that people forget to cite their source sometimes, but you can only forget once or twice over a long period of time before it becomes blatant plagiarism.  As for being reminded to put in a citation after the post was made, that's a tricky one.  I don't really have a problem with it, and it might be more constructive and a positive thing overall than just letting the member get banned--but that's assuming the member learns his lesson from that warning.

2784  Other / Meta / Re: What happened to BitcoinTalk in the last years? on: September 11, 2021, 11:12:04 PM
The question is that while thousands of people is joining bitcointalk today?
No, the question is why bitcointalk has become overrun by garbage shitposters in the last X number of years, and I'd say X>6, because it was just as bad when I registered as it is today--though there's been maybe some improvement because of the merit system.

C) is that bitcointalk community is a source of living a comfortable live?
Say what?  I don't expect that if I asked you to clarify what you meant that you'd even see my post, but how the hell does a discussion forum provide a comfortable life for anyone?  For older members, sometimes it can make them want to pull their hair out, especially if they're trying to read threads in sections like Bitcoin Discussion.  That should be the most sacred of sections, and yet it's nothing but a wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling shitbox of crap.  Haven't you noticed that?

Oh wait, are you talking about the desperate booger-eating bounty hunters who work for a month or more for a handful of scam tokens that they may or may not receive?  Yeah, that'll provide a comfortable life.
2785  Other / Meta / Re: Copy/paste only with source on: September 11, 2021, 03:59:13 PM
Yikes, slap on that tin foil hat--but I guess that's what Off-Topic is for, right?

That was an extreme example of what OP is talking about, but with topics related to bitcoin or other crypto-related stuff, I actually don't mind if someone posts an article, a snippet of one, or just a link, because I don't actively follow what's going on on the crypto news sites.  All the news I get basically comes from this forum.  However, I think if someone posts any of that, they should start up the discussion with their own thoughts rather than not posting anything themselves (the extreme) or posting a lazy one-sentence "So what U guyz thinks?" kind of crap (the bare minimum).

One member whose posts always contain articles is Hydrogen, and he's an example of how to do it right.  He always gives his own thoughts at the end of whatever he quotes and invites discussion.  Usually the articles he quotes from are interesting, too.
2786  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Thoughts about Passport hardware wallet on: September 11, 2021, 02:17:56 PM
I always liked small electronic devices even before hardware wallets, and bunch of those devices are just collecting dust and maybe I used them only few times in my life.
Lol, me too, and right now I have a habit of buying thumb drives I don't really need, since I have everything I'll ever need backed up on one single USB drive.  I just think they're cool, and so are HW wallets.  I'd probably start collecting them if I had money to spare.  As it is, I don't splurge on thumb drives all that often, but each one is something I don't really need.  I've also kept every cell phone I've ever had (and posted a pic of one of them earlier in this thread), and they're kind of neat to look at once in a while.

I've had the coinkite website bookmarked for a long time and have been meaning to buy a ColdCard wallet, and I'd even be interested in a Passport, too if I had the money and it was priced right.  I still think it's ugly, but so is that cellphone I have from 2001.

Note: I missed your post and am only replying to it now since I saw your link back to this thread in your recent post in the ColdCard thread.
2787  Economy / Reputation / Re: DT Member Please Tag these Members on: September 10, 2021, 10:21:59 PM
Just based on their usernames and the fact that both accounts are from 2014, I initially thought they might be alt accounts, but their posting style is different--or at least their grasp of English seems to be.  But they both post a lot in Economics, too.  Very weird.

There must be a private way to apply in the campaign, I also see some other users in spreadsheet but they did not apply in the thread.
Yeah, I'm wondering how they both got into the campaign without applying.  As you said, they might have PM'ed the campaign manager, but that seems like a very odd way to go about it.  I'm thinking they might have been invited and that they might know the manager or someone else and got in through nepotism.
2788  Economy / Reputation / Re: 5000$ wager timed to search for plagiarism, (or how to learn to lie publicly). on: September 10, 2021, 05:21:36 PM
It's Friday night, there's a pandemic, grab the popcorn and enjoy the show Cheesy
That's a LOL and a half.  I'm not really rooting for either side of this drama; I just want it put to bed, and hopefully this'll be the last thread about it.

But to be honest, this unnecessary drama sometimes make me sick. I can't miss the reputation board and I don’t enjoy such type of post.
Well, just don't read threads like this and you won't get sick--free medical advice from your friendly neighborhood pharmacist, free of charge.  Seriously though, there's always going to be conflict on bitcointalk as long as there are strong personalities that occasionally come into conflict.  I'm not saying we need accusations of wrongdoing all the time, but having heated disagreements can spark some good debate about things (like TECSHARE when he would rant against the trust system).

I'll be following the progress and outcome of this, that's for sure.
2789  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: What is the best hardware wallet for holding Bitcoin only? on: September 10, 2021, 11:36:48 AM
For only holding even a paper wallet would do, as long as it's generated safely.
That's what I was going to recommend--why waste money on a HW wallet just to store bitcoin?  Assuming you're going to keep it long-term, it would be so much cheaper and probably more convenient to transfer your bitcoin to an Electrum wallet, write down or stamp the seed phrase into a piece of metal and keep it in a safe place.  You'd have to basically do the same thing with a HW wallet anyway, right?

He/she may have been living in own bubble. Less than 600 posts, of which most in Indonesian and Altcoin Bounties. I wouldn't be that surprised.
Yeah, and if he wasn't ever interested in HW wallets before, it's entirely plausible that he's not that familiar with them.
2790  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Ranking-up pipeline- Those close to their next rank (lacking Merits) on: September 10, 2021, 11:03:37 AM
I gave user Lily Garver 1 merit to rank up to Member status.
Great, you just helped an account farmer to rank up one of their accounts.  Bravo.

Thanks for the update as always, DdmrDdmr.  I'm going to sift through some post histories right now and do a little merit spreading.

Edit: vv181 makes some pretty decent posts, but I think they've gone un-merited because a lot of them are buried in Altcoin Discussion.  I'd advise any merit source or member with merits to give to check out his post history.
2791  Other / Meta / Re: [LOG] The ranked up members - Congratulations! on: September 10, 2021, 10:57:31 AM
Nice to see there are a lot of members who've ranked up since the last time this thread was updated.  It still seems like a small number, given how many members there are here, but I guess that's the merit system's natural selection process in action.

<snip>hilariousandco and odolvlobo received a lot of merit and now have over 2000 merits.
I could have sworn hilariousandco had crossed the 2000 mark a long time ago!  I know he hasn't been posting nearly as much as he used to, but he earned a lot of merits in the early days of the merit system and had a lot "airdropped" at the start of it.  Guess I was wrong.
2792  Other / Politics & Society / Re: America & Facebook is becoming a dictatorship on: September 10, 2021, 10:47:15 AM
Corporations and govs should not be allowed to control the internet.Take back the internet people,it's yours!
Well, there's been a lot of debate lately in the US about this very topic, but I'm not holding out any hope that these social media giants (Facebook, Twitter, and Google/Youtube) are going to change their policies any time soon.  Right now Youtube is censoring discussions about COVID-19, and you can't even get your video monetized if you mention certain words.  Some of the videos just look bizarre, because the person talking will bleep/silence out words like "rape" "molestation" "COVID" and a bunch of others.  Everything has to be family-friendly, and if you talk about the pandemic your viewpoint has to be in line with the CDC's.

And OP, I agree with you 100%.  I just wish there was more competition, i.e., sites like Youtube where there wasn't any censorship and where people could still monetize their videos, because much like bitcointalk, people are motivated to post content because they're paid to do so.  Who would advertise on a controversial site with the social/political climate being what it is these days, though?  No company wants its ads to be seen anywhere near a video about Hitler or something that criticizes or questions feminism/Black Lives Matter/LBGTQ/you-name-it.

PS: Move this to the "Politics & Society" board as it sure has nothing to do with Economics.
It kind of does have to do with economics, as there's a lot of money involved with this censorship, which I mentioned above.  If videos weren't monetized and there weren't corporate advertisements, none of this would be a problem.  Hell, I'm surprised AVGN's videos haven't been nuked from Youtube.
2793  Other / Meta / Re: Some Bitcointalk memes on: September 10, 2021, 09:50:45 AM
You cant expect any high entertained memes from a newbie.
I can't expect entertaining memes from a newborn, but being a newbie to the forum is not excuse.  That's why I referenced your age, because I thought you might be a small child.  I also apologize if you're retarded; I don't mean to be offensive.

You should be positive or giving instructions on how to improve or how to be more careful about posting, not being toxic.
You should be more intelligent and funny, not dimwitted.  Welcome to the internet, where you can be criticized pretty harshly.  Also, how do you know I'm not a kid?  You're brand new to the forum, right?

Ban evaders doesn't allowed to post except the ban appeal of your main account.
Deeeerp.  OP, what is wrong with you?  Seriously, what is going on inside that noggin of yours?
2794  Other / Meta / Re: How many non-scams exist in Investor-based games? on: September 10, 2021, 09:13:21 AM
I think the success and efficiency of this board means that we can roll out the "Scams and Fraud" section too, so that we can redirect all scammer activity there.
On a related note, I was thinking yesterday that Theymos might want to consider a "Retards" section where people who have absolutely no clue what they're writing can post in, and I thought it would be best as a subsection of Beginners & Help.  Kind of like for members who aren't ready to post in B&H can begin.  Like this one.

Now back on topic.  This forum doesn't moderate scams (and you know that, actmyname), therefore Investor Based Games exists.  Theymos won't create new sections for things that are actually relevant or add new features that would help people not have any excuse for plagiarism and so on, yet IBG exists.  Makes sense, dudn't it?

Now back to reality.  IBG is an idiotic section that should be nuked until there's nothing left but smoke wafting from the scorched earth where it used to exist.  I've always thought that, and if you look far back enough in my post history you'd probably find one or two posts where I said much the same.  I've got the gambling sections on ignore, so I wasn't aware that there was a retard overflow into them, but it doesn't surprise me.  There's been a lot of that lately.
2795  Other / Meta / Re: APPEALING FOR SYKT62 on: September 10, 2021, 12:52:23 AM
It seems that the ban does not bother you much, since I see that you also write today in other topics. This is an additional negative point to solve your problem.
Yep, that'll probably be the end of this mini-drama.  And though I'm almost certain that a mod will drop by this thread and see your post, did you report the ban evasion by any chance?  I think this account needs to be nuked sooner rather than later, lest the infection spreads throughout the host.

Again, do post all the arguments that you have (or at least that you think you have) in your favor and I'm sure eventually a mod will look into it.
OP, don't bother.  Your time on the forum has come to an end.  I'm not a moderator, but breaking the rules after getting banned never turns out well for the banned member.
2796  Other / Meta / Re: Some Bitcointalk memes on: September 10, 2021, 12:43:15 AM
Uh....those are two of the most un-funny, pointless memes I've ever seen--and I'm not talking about just bitcointalk memes, I'm talking about all the memes I've ever seen.

I'll show them here since you can't post images.

Just don't bother with this sort of thing.  Please.  I don't know how old you are, but if you're a child I apologize.
2797  Other / Meta / Re: Where can I find signature campaigns ? on: September 09, 2021, 10:31:33 PM
Aside from what was mentioned above, there are also SCs in Bounties section in under Alternate Cryptocurrencies. I would just be wary of choosing one though if I were you.
I would avoid them altogether, OP.  If your plan is to get paid to post, stick with a bitcoin-paying signature campaign, one from the page jackg linked to (if you can find one and get accepted into it, which can be hit-or-miss).  The bounties available in the altcoin section usually pay in tokens that aren't even listed yet, and you only get paid after the bounty is over--plus you're trusting that the bounty owner won't fuck you over in the end, which happens quite a bit.

Speaking of the page jackg mentioned, I had no idea there were so few campaigns open.  I haven't visited that thread in years, and I have the Services section on ignore, but based on the number of low-value posts I've seen in the past couple of months I thought there were a lot more bitcoin-paying campaigns active.  There used to be tons of them.
2798  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin-Hungry Ukraine Moves to Legalize Cryptocurrency on: September 09, 2021, 03:05:15 PM
I got lost right here:

Quote
Cryptocurrencies, including bitcoin, have so far been recognized in the legal region of Ukraine, Europe's seventh most populous country. Nevertheless, Blockchain data company Chainalysis ranked Ukrainians as the top recipients of cryptocurrencies in the world in September 2020.
If the bill is signed, banks will be able to seize the accounts of cryptographic companies, while its citizens will have legal protection in the event of theft.

What is the "legal region of Ukraine"?  Why is nevertheless used to start the sentence that follows?  That would mean that Ukrainian's passion for crypto is in opposition to their legality--and that just doesn't make sense.  And what bill are we talking about, and why would banks be able to seize the accounts of "cryptographic companies"?

This might be a bad translation, but it's frustrating to read.  Also, OP, check this thread out.  It deals with how this news is being portrayed wrongly with respect to the word legal.
2799  Other / Meta / Re: APPEALING FOR SYKT62 on: September 09, 2021, 01:46:02 PM
No matter if you're the author, imagine if everybody is doing the same. Bitcointalk could close the doors since everything is already elsewhere. Or we would just need to say "I've written at abcd.com"
Imagine a whole conversation full of "my reply can be found at abcd.com) Cheesy
Yeah, but I doubt these cases happen all that often.  It seems to me that most members come to bitcointalk to participate in bounties, and if I had to guess I'd say that the vast majority of them have little writing experience overall (at least not in English), much less experience writing a blog about crypto-related topics.

And yes, even if it is your article/blog post that you reposted here, you absolutely need to make that fact known--or at the very least that you've taken the work from an external website.  If you claim authorship after you've gotten banned like OP has in this thread, it might turn out to be a hassle proving you were the original author.
2800  Economy / Reputation / Re: Is there any way to get back from negative trust on: September 09, 2021, 12:54:26 PM
Yes this is your favorite forum since you can earn shitcoins worth of couple bucks. Even you deleted that post, it doesn't mean your reputation will be cleaned too.
Couldn't have said it better myself.  I got a PM a couple of days ago from a Sr. Member that I'd tagged back in 2018 for abusing bounties, and he asked me if I would remove my feedback.  The member hadn't even posted that much since getting tagged, and hadn't done anything to show that he'd reformed, so I basically told him to fuck off.  Right now with bitcoin between $45-50k, people are frantic to start participating in campaigns/bounties either with their primary or alt accounts, so those negatives that didn't bother them last year when bitcoin was much lower are now holding them back.

OP got his negative trust more recently, but it's the same principle.  He messed up in the last two months by abusing a bounty, and for some reason thinks it's time to be forgiven.  I can't speak for the members who left you those feedbacks, OP, but I doubt they're going to remove them.

You know, on second thought....you might deserve another negative.  I'm going to take care of that right now.  Edit: Done.  That feedback is not going anywhere.
