No confirmation email for me.

How about now?

Yep, got confirmation email, details are correct.

Sorry to hear that, mate. Maybe a few people will fail to reimburse you, so you can just keep their units.

Its not the end of the world, I am sure I will get my hands on some sooner or later.

It does mean however that I am probably going to have to use the "warranty" one to test and compile MinePeon support, if anyone objects pleas speak up Wink .

Neil

It'd be great if you could do that for us! Currently I'm hoping this will power my five units. It can deliver 3A of current, hopefully that will be enough!

Woohoo, BTC transferring now!

EDIT: Double Woohoo! Order page shows my deposited BTC and number of units! Now to play the waiting game. . . .

I plan on using an RPi with MinePeon to drive my five Block Erupters, through a powered USB hub. Apparently the next version of cgminer will support these devices right out of the box. Kano is working on it.

Awesome, order in, organising bitcoins.

I know that the thread says "close" now, but are you still taking orders? I'd like to get 5 of these. . .

Thank you for the replies. I guess there are mixed opinions on the topic. The reason I ask is that I will be using PeonMiner on my Raspberry Pi, which includes both cgminer and bfgminer. Now that I know both miners support the new Block Erupter hardware, I'll just have to try both -- but the plug-n-play feature of cgminer makes it very attractive. Smiley

Hello, I'm a newbie and I have a question: which of cgminer and bfgminer is better to use with Block Erupter USB?

Thanks

I'm in Australia, could you give me a better price if I buy 5? 2.6 BTC is a lot

I could, but at the risk of sounding like a total ass---- I really don't want to.

The thing is, I priced it at 2.6 BTC to make sure that if I sell a single unit and pay all of the shipping, customs, taxes etc I would not be loosing anything.

While there is economy of scale, and multiple purchases do save on shipping and packing etc I was kind of hoping that I would get to keep the extra (yeah, I am an evil capitalist).

Shoot me  Tongue

lol, I'm a capitalist too -- which is why I need to get a decent return on my investment. If I buy five, it will cost me 13 BTC for 1650MH/s. According to 50BTC.com, I will be mining 70 mBTC per day. This means it will take 185 days (over 6 months) to start making a profit. According to this forum, a 6 month return on investment is average. You also need to factor in market volatility and the difficulty factor. So now you can see where I'm coming from.

In fairness to you though, the USB Erupter does use very little power, and it is very compact. I plan to use MinePeon on my Raspberry Pi, which is your software. It would be nice if we could come to an arrangement Smiley

293  Bitcoin / Mining support / Average Return on Investment Time on: May 24, 2013, 12:28:40 PM
Hi all,

I'm a newbie who is considering mining, and I would like some help to make a decision. I've spec'd a few mining PCs using ATI cards, and according to the MHash-to-return estimator on 50BTC.com, most configurations take about 6 months to recover the investment costs.

Is 6 months a reasonable period before making a profit?

If not, what other approaches should I look into?

Thanks

I've made some progress, and posted it in this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=159966.0

Okay, I've found the python script included with the Xilinx port, which I believe is what you run on your linux platform connected to the FPGA. I've updated the .ucf file to match my Diligent Spartan 3E Starter Board (clock and RS232 ports), and I am now downloading ISE web pack. It was actually hard to find WebPack as Xilinx is now using something called Vivado which didn't provide any settings for my board. I'm planning to program the board from my Windows PC, and then connect it to my RPi via a RS232-USB adapter.

You don't need much.

You need:

- a board (see Digilent, for instance)
- Xilinx or Altera software that maps verilog/vhdl to FPGA, depending on which board you have
- software to communicate with the board, presumably you can reuse something somebody has posted
- verilog code for a miner. This is available as well, on the web. There are both Xilinx and Altera versions.

The Xilinx/Altera software can generally be expensive, so you want to make sure that the part you are using is supported by the demo version that is available off of their websites. Or, sometimes, the board is bundled with the software.

Probably, you would want to clone somebody's existing setup, and then you can incrementally modify it to your liking, learn Verilog, etc.

Can someone please elaborate on this? What is the software used to communicate with the board, and where can I get it?

Also, what software do I need on the linux platform (Raspbian Wheezy) to talk to the FPGA while mining?

Thanks

Why bother doing that if you permit me asking ?

I use my Rpi as a media center Smiley

Uh, Probably because the OP wants to install linux/CGminer on the Rpi to control the FPGA, since it uses like 6 watts.

OP, I'd look at the following links:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=9047.260
https://github.com/teknohog/Xilinx-Serial-Miner
(This is Spartan6, but good info nonetheless) http://www.ztex.de/btcminer

Hope I could help...

The Xilinx Serial Miner is exactly what I need! Thank you very much for the link.  Smiley

It's been a while since I programmed an FPGA. Any there any instructions to be found?

Hello all  Smiley

I'm a Bitcoin newbie who has read all the starter documentation. I have not installed any Bitcoin software or created a wallet. I have a solid background in crypto, electronics, and programming. I have two devices lying around unused: a Xilinx Spartan 3E FPGA, and a Raspberry Pi model B. I would like to turn these devices into a small mining experiment. My problem is there is so much information that I don't know where to start. I've had a look in the mining forum, but I can't find any detailed instructions relevant to my setup.

Could someone tell me if my idea of combining these two devices is feasible, and how I should go about starting?

Cheers
