281  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XSV] ★★ Silicon Valley Coin ★★ | ✈ MailDrop | DigiShield ✔ | Vote MintPal★ on: April 03, 2014, 10:38:36 AM
If Mark Zuckerberg wanted to get in on the crypto community scene, all he has to do is buy 50k Bitcoins. If he makes that purchase public knowledge, he can cause a sudden spike in the price of Bitcoin, potentially netting him a quick $5M profit. At that point, he can take his money out or stay with the community. Regardless, it would be more profitable for him, or any Silicon Valley entrepreneur for that matter, to simply invest in Bitcoin than a new clone. I'm not against the idea of promoting cryptocurrencies to Silicon Valley companies, but it seems to me that all this community support would be more useful promoting Bitcoin than another clone. In the end, the best response that one could expect from a Silicon Valley company rep regarding this coin would be "We'll start accepting Bitcoins for payment so exchange those vouchers for Bitcoins first."
282  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [GPUC] GPU Coin | GPU sale Friday~ Get a TOXIC R9 280X for $300 on: April 03, 2014, 06:30:26 AM
On Friday the 4th of April GPU Coin is having a massive sale starting between the hours of 1700~2000 EST and going until stock is sold out.  The rest of the Sapphire Toxic R9 280X cards will be sold for $300 USD equivalant of GPUC at the market value and any person who orders a Sapphire R7 240 card at our already low price of $27 USD equivalant of GPUC will be entered in a drawing for another free R7 240, with a total of 5 winners.  Due to stock limits, we will be limiting purchases to one card per customer.

Do we have to purchase an R7 240 between the hours of 1700-2000 EST of April 4 in order to be entered in the raffle, or can we buy an R7 240 as long as supplies last and still be entered? Is there an exact cutoff date for participation?

I would like to participate in this contest.

I have taken the first half of the mandatory signature and edited minor parts of it to accommodate it into my signature space.

I have liked the Facebook page and am willing to provide my Facebook username via PM if necessary.

285  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BlackCoin (BC) | on exchanges | PoS | No premine on: March 28, 2014, 11:05:38 AM
Newbie question.

Just trying to learn/understand how prices rise/fall.

I was just looking at different coins on MintPal. How does a coin's value start? Is it dependent on how much is mined before it hits an exchange? How many in total there are/will be?

Like I see blackcoin at about 6k sats with volume of 715 btc (and I know for a while it was 2-3 times that). It's only 1 month old.

Then I see something like darkcoin, whose value is at 14k sats but only a volume of 8 btc and is around 2 months old.

So just by looking at that, it's weird to me how the value of darkcoin can be double that of blackcoin with only 8 btc being traded (granted I'm only looking at MintPal). I wasn't around for the beginning of either of these coins, so am not sure how this became where we are today.

I'm also curious and confused as to if/how volume affects price. Same with total number of coins. I've read having too few coins can be bad for distribution, but too many means a slow rise and a need for more people to adopt to be worth more (like doge?).

Anyway I'm guessing there isn't a simple answer but even just a general outline would be helpful in me grasping generally how this works.

The free market decides everything. Essentially, sellers set a price which they think is a fair price while buyers do the same. Eventually, a baseline price is determined when either one of the two yields to the other or they find a middle price.
286  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [BLTZ] [IPO Hybrid] BlitzCoin | proof of concept coin | pure speculative on: March 27, 2014, 08:00:04 AM
Coin created for pure speculation.
Unlike many coins here, BlitzCoin is created for speculation. It have no intention to be a coin for online shops, or any merchandise at all.
BlitzCoin is created as proof of concept. From mining for rewards to mining for tx fees, as well to see how network will behave in such a small timeframe, fast hashrate increase and decrease. The results can be used in future coins development for new features etc.
After mining for rewards the network will be secured with several CPU miners, enough to secure and insure transactions.

I'm not sure that I get this coin. What exactly are we speculating on? When we speculate on other coins, we do so on the possibility that it would get adopted by merchants. If this coin is designed not to have any use, are we speculating on the possibility that someone will choose to risk his/her business by offering merchant support to a coin designed not to be spent? I ask this because I think it makes sense for me to know what I am speculating on when someone asks me to do so.

It's a speculation. Look at gold. It have no purpose, no value. you can't eat it, you can't buy bread with it. It's worth only for trading, for speculation that will be more valuable next year.
(sure, gold have some other purposes, but you know what I mean.)

That is an unsatisfying answer, but it's better than the canned "to the moon" response that has plagued many threads since it was first coined. I would argue that Bitcoin already fits that bill and has answered that "speculation," but that's largely irrelevant at this point. Good luck to you and your coin nonetheless.

If the dev tells me that this coin is just an experiment to observe the end-of-block-rewards stage of coins in general, I would be satisfied with that answer. That would mean that this coin was not designed to be speculated on though. Also, a handful of noteworthy coins have already reached that stage, so this experiment seems redundant to me.
288  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Gridcoin (GRC) - first coin utilizing BOINC - Official Thread on: March 27, 2014, 05:09:00 AM
Would you someone be willing to clarify a few points for me? I already participate in distributed computing for Team Ripple Labs, and I want to know if switching to Gridcoin and configuring additional software for it is worth the hassle.

From what I can gather, my wallet has to participate in Scrypt mining in addition to running the distributed computing manager. Is that correct? Or do I earn Gridcoin by simply participating in the distributed computing network?

290  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Official BlackCoin statement from CryptoRush - Very shocking information on: March 26, 2014, 01:44:14 PM
The entire cryptocoin scene is full of thief "blackhat" hackers and scammers.  Pools and exchanges being attacked and looted daily.. scams on websites and IRC.. pump and dumpers stealing from all who follow them.. it's time to diversify.. I spent many of my coins on hardware and even precious metals a couple months ago and have no regrets.. now just mining and trading my way back up and utilizing 7 of the altcoin exchanges.. One man on IRC lost over 230 BTC on CryptoRush.. I am sad for him but it was foolish to keep that much on an altcoin exchange..  If only people would read the Bible and follow Jesus' commandments we would have none of these problems.. Thou shall not steal!  Do unto your neighbor as you would have him do unto you.  Love your enemy..

Yo do realize that the current crypto market revolves around ponzi coin trading, right? Most coins do not and will never have merchant support. By buying those low and selling them high, you are effectively earning a profit by taking money from a future bagholder who will never get that investment back. I cannot say that I have a problem with that since that's how crypto day trading works, but I would think that your belief would include "don't make a profit off of another person's loss" despite it not being one of the historically accepted commandments.
291  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Q2C] QubitCoin new secure hashing (CPU/GPU) (NEW) Update 0.8.4.1 on: March 26, 2014, 09:01:22 AM
Bitcoin is also not a dev Wink

Satoshi Nakamoto is Bitcoin's developer. In addition, Bitcoin has an entire organization of experienced programmers analyzing and rewriting its source, not to mention a few companies with well-vetted software engineers on their employee rosters sending feedback to the Bitcoin Foundation in order to optimize their infrastructure without having to write their own wallet software. I don't know what point you were trying to make, but you can't support it with incorrect information.
292  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Faircoin - The First Fairly Distributed coin. New exchanges added! on: March 26, 2014, 06:03:15 AM
Dont stand and watch the the coin die!!!
we have one big thing to do: LETS PUT BUY OFFERS IN THE EXCHANGES HIGHER!!! MAKE OFFERS MORE THEN 700 SAT FOR NOW!!!

No. You're missing the point. We ain't here to pump this shit up but rather to come up with something that can give value to the coin...pumping never helped no coin last longer.

Right, Not Pump-and-dump.   Why r u crying ppl to buy at higher price? In order to let u dump ?

in order to male my coin worth more! its all matter of supply and demand!

You don't create demand by fraudulently raising the price of something. If you back the coin with goods and services, then you are creating demand. If you are making people believe that the coin is worth more than it actually is so that you can make a profit, then you are scamming -- we call that a ponzi scheme.

Things too good to be true usually are... except for the guy who bought $27 worth of bitcoin in '09 and is now a millionaire.
Even worse is the guy that paid 7M for two pizzas he ordered with 10,000 BTC he'd mined in 2010:  Embarrassed

http://www.forbes.com/sites/ericmack/2013/12/23/the-bitcoin-pizza-purchase-thats-worth-7-million-today/

Moral of the story: Never sell-out cheap. You never know!

Your comment is actually an ignorant assertion that is likely based on a newcomer's perspective. Bitcoin had no real trading value back then, and a lot of people were unwilling to begin the process of finding it. That guy was willing to, so a decent number of Bitcoin vets consider him somewhat of a hero in the crypto community. Someone had to start trading with Bitcoins; otherwise, it would have just ended up being hoarded by thousands of people hoping that somebody would back the coin with actual goods and services.
295  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][FLN] Floripacoin - 42 special coins awarded a day - Litecoin based on: March 23, 2014, 11:52:30 AM
Coins awarded per block: this is the big difference in Floripacoin:
  - In the first 999,999 blocks (approx. 500 days) coins awarded per block is 10,000 FLN
  - However, every 1000 blocks (2 times a day) starts a sequence of 21 special blocks, and the first 20 coins will randomly between 500 and 50,000, and block 21 will give fixed value of 50,000
  - Between blocks 1,000,000 and 2,999,999 a block reward is 10,000, and will be halved every 733,394 blocks (approx 1 year)
  - And from the block 3,000,000 will give fixed value of 600 FLN

I also personally tested the wallet yesterday and I was unable to connect to any nodes in the network. I then decided to mine with the only pool, but a few of the addresses which mined the original 10 blocks were silently getting all the blocks via solo mining. Decide for yourselves whether it's worth the trouble.

297  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: people buying used miners on: March 22, 2014, 04:39:58 AM
If you're mining Bitcoin with USB ASICs, then you're doing it wrong. There are other SHA256 coins which offer a faster RoI. Mining newly launched coins for speculative purposes also speeds up getting your RoI by at least a factor of 5 (based on my experience, not generalized facts).
298  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [HKC] [SHA-256] 香港 HongKong Coin - A revolution for the Hong Kong market. on: March 21, 2014, 12:34:35 PM
Hong Kong Coin is a new virtual currency designed by Hong Kong people to empower local business in Hong Kong. Hong Kong Coin is easy to use. You don't have to be an expert to spend Hong Kong Coin. Hong Kong Coin has fast transactions. You do not need to wait or hours or even minutes to recieve your money. Hong Kong Kong is secured by strong encryption. Your money is always safe. Hong Kong Coin is fully decentralized, this means that you own your money, no one can take it from you. Welcome to the future of Hong Kong Finance. Welcome to Hong Kong Coin. What are you waiting for?

That description is essentially what a cryptocurrency is. None of those characteristics is unique to this coin. (One can argue that Bitcoin's 10-minute block time is slow, but that's only relative to the newer coins that have been testing the limits of speedy block times.)
299  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][STA][SHA256] StashCoin - Exploring the Bitcoin technology.| Exchange Ready on: March 21, 2014, 07:54:03 AM
Pls sell STA minimum at 0.005 after we have exchange.

That's just an arbitrary price that you randomly picked though. If you can personally back the coin with goods and services at that rate, then I'll gladly buy a few coins from you to add to my stash, pun intended. However, the truth is that Stashcoin is backed by nothing but pure market speculation at the moment. The free market itself will dictate what the coin's value is.

how now as best price coin for cpu mining?

I have x10 Xeon E3-1270 and looking for something cost effective.
Someone will help? any suggestions?

At moment on mining animecoin, one procesor E3-1270 give profit only 0,1-0,2$/day
This is a goddamn joke and mockery!

CPU E3-1270 make more money use scrypt coin hahah

http://www.coinwarz.com/cryptocurrency/?sha256HashRate=4.00&sha256Power=0.00&sha256PowerCost=0.1000&scryptHashRate=90&scryptPower=0&scryptPowerCost=0.1000&sha256Check=false&scryptCheck=true&e=BTCe

1satoshi is not price!

If will not be at the level of performance minimum 10satoshi, ANI await the imminent death.

Animecoin is a community coin. It was not made to make day traders an easy profit. A lot of people are trying to help the coin succeed, and none of us are doing it by QQing about not making any profit from it.
