281  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: E-devices suitable for backup storage of seed phrases. on: April 20, 2024, 06:12:54 PM
Electronic Diary doesn't contain encryption and theoretically, if you have physical access, you can obtain data from this device if you manage not to turn off the power to the device during disassembly (a reset will occur).
This is a reason it should not be used. But some people may prefer to passphrase their seed phrase which can give a good option for its use. As for me I can not use it. I will prefer encrypted flashdrive, memory card or disk which I have talked about before.

True, this is closed source, but I wanted to ask you. Let's say there are backdoors (on a 20-year-old device), then how will the data stolen by them leave this device without a wireless connection?
You are right about this. If it has no way to connect online and it is thoroughly checked and see that it can not connect online, we do not need to talk about if it is open or close source as it will stay permanently offline.
282  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: E-devices suitable for backup storage of seed phrases. on: April 20, 2024, 01:21:08 PM
Possible disadvantage:
- Supports USB charging and data transfer. Files in image or text format will have to be downloaded to the device from a PC, which may turn out to be a potential attack vector during which the seed phrase can be compromised on the PC (this is not a threat on this device).
Can you use these devices for encrypting the seed phrase on the memory card?

You can do it on a device that is airgapped. But if you have online wallet which can be good for frequent transaction and just for holding small amount of bitcoin, connecting it to online laptop should not be a problem if you are protecting your laptop from malware and hackers very well.

With two or three memory card which I can put on a memory card adapter. Only one adapter. Or to get two or three small size flashdrive. Or to get two or three small size disk. Or get one of each or anyhow that I want it but in a way that I will have more than one backup. I can use any of them to encrypt the seed phrase and carry it along with me while traveling. If possible I am still traveling back, I will also leave backups at home.
283  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can people still get the addictive nature through friendly games on: April 20, 2024, 11:55:05 AM
Though, one needs to have a clear distinction between what an addiction is and what competitiveness is. From this little story you have brought to us, it seems to me your partner is rather a person who does not like to lose against others and also has a very strong feeling of pride.
Those characteristics of a person does not necessarily mean they are going to end up being addicted to gambling or betting, but those certainly do not help.

It would seem to me, your spouse could get easily hooked to typical casino games if he started to play regularly and if if started to lose money, then he would start to chase it all down, because of his pride.
I will also say that was what happened to his partner. Some people just like not to lose and will continue until they will see it favoring them. But if you are gambling with someone, it is different from when you are gambling with no one but the gambling site. There is no feeling of pride in that. But if he is not having experience but new to gambling, he can lose and start chasing loss. But this is different from when gambling with someone that you have argued with that led to betting.
284  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Safe is 12-mnemonic seed Phase against brutefoce on: April 19, 2024, 10:22:09 PM
Okay

and if i want to use a hardware wallet like ledger is there any way to seteup the ledger without being connected to the internet as i dont to be connected to any network which could reach the WWW while generating the seed for it or is it unavoidable for the setup?
Hardware wallets are offline wallets. It means they are not connected to the Internet when you are using them to make transaction. But Ledgers wallets is one of the hardware wallets that I can not buy. You can go for the open source Trezor.

Edit: not all hardware wallets are offline wallets. Read what LoyceV said about it. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5493508.msg63969475#msg63969475

286  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What Casino Game Has the Best Odds? on: April 19, 2024, 10:03:06 PM
Gambling is purely luck for me, although some people argue that when it comes to blackjack, winning is determined by the faith of the players. It's a bit convincing that blackjack has a good odds of winning, but can we say that when any of those casino games gives a 45% or 50% chance of winning, it's the best odds? It can only be more convincing when you say a game has up to an 80% chance of winning, but that's not very possible. Apart from blackjack, the other games that I think have a good chance of winning odd are roulette and craps, but as a gambler, don't just fill your mind with the idea of winning the game; else you might not have a complete fun when you keep losing.
The only games that I do not like are slots because they are kind of riskier and they are not fun for me.

Do not mind anyone that says blackjack can have more probability of winning. It is a lie. Some people will continue to play blackjack and they will continue to lose. A user came to post on this forum how he lost while play blackjack, I think this will either be this month or the last. The games are only provided by the casinos to look for money from their customers while they are entertaining you with the games.
287  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Safe is 12-mnemonic seed Phase against brutefoce on: April 19, 2024, 09:51:53 PM
The seed phrase is said to be an encoding of 256 bits entropy
12 word seed phrase has 128 bits of entropy.
It is 24 word seed phrase that has 256 bits of entropy.

If you’re looking at maybe since it’s a 12 seed phrase, then a 24 seed phrase might be safer then you’re not entirely wrong because the 12 seed phrase provides 128 bits of security while 24 seed phrase provides 256 bits of security, which makes it assume more safe. But since the private key also provides a 128bits security then the 12 word seed phrase is just as safe as the 24 word seed phrase
Let me complete it for you. Both 12 and 24 word seed phrases have 128 bitcoin of security. The reason I do not have to explain it is  because you later explained it.
288  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where best to enjoy this forum... on: April 19, 2024, 09:11:31 PM
This forum is better on computer but I like it on some browsers on my Android which makes it nice for me. I like it mostly on VIA and Duckduckgo. If you know how to use PHX browser and disable the notifications and news feeds, it is also good on the device if you can always skip the ads. You will even like the dark mode on VIA and PHX. But I also like the automatic dark mode on my Edge browser on Windows. I type faster on phone which makes me use phone than laptop and I like the experience.
289  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [1 to 3 days] a long running game good or bad? on: April 19, 2024, 08:39:44 PM
That is one helluva long running parlay tickets the OP has there, a little too long I must say. However, reading the OP, they sound confident of their picks and suggesting a change from over 0.5 to over 1.5 wouldn't change the OP's mind.
When I first started to gamble, I will accumulate many games and have the feeling of happiness like I am going to win the bet. But after the matches will start, I will not be happy again as I will win some and later lose some which makes me not to win the bet.

Please make this thread self moderated so that we can keep up with the final outcome of the bets. I want you to win because why won't I.
A moderated thread can not be made self-moderated. He will need to created another thread instead. But making this thread self-modersted is not necessary. You can just follow up.

Whatever the outcome, share your thoughts on it and whether you think you made a good decision or not and what you would do differently the next time. From the responses of the few users, some of the won't wouldn't want to go of long parlays again.
Even if he wins, a long accumulated bet like this is not a good decision.

Anyhow the game goes, just make sure to let us know - I want to know if it was a success of not.
The mistake some people make is that they think they will have higher chances to win when they stake on low odd games but that is not true. This is common to people that wants to use huge amount of money to bet at once. Low odd will only encourage a gambler to bet with high amount of money and that has been the mistake some people make. The chance to win this bet is very low with the numerous accumulate. Do not be surprised if some clubs do not score at all.
291  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which block marks the halving? on: April 19, 2024, 08:08:15 PM
Does it begin when miners start working on block 840000 or when it is found?
According to what I have read in the past, block 840000 will be of 3.125 BTC in mining reward.

Note:
Block 839999 marks the end of the previous halving.
Block 840000 is the halving
Block 840001 marks the beginning of the new halve where block reward are cut into half

So what i explained above, is how I think it works, but I stand to be corrected if there is any miner in the room willing to elaborate more on this for our fullest understanding. Thank you
Block 840000 marks the beginning of the new halve where block reward are cut into half, not block 840001.
292  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which block marks the halving? on: April 19, 2024, 07:26:48 PM
Which block marks the halving? Which one do we celebrate? Is it 840000 or 840001?
Halving will occur after block 839999. It will begin with block 840000.
293  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Airgapped device for Electrum installation on: April 19, 2024, 09:46:30 AM
Remove the Wifi card, put chewing gum in the RJ45 port, remove or encrypt the SSD, glue the RAM against liquid nitrogen swap attacks, close the curtains, build a faraday cage, train your cat to be an assassin, drop your laptop in acid when your alarm is triggered, ...., you can go as far as you want Cheesy
That is true. About the RJ45 port, I will prefer to disable it in the BIOS along with USB ports after I finish installing the wallet that I want to use on other airgapped device. I can enable and disable the USB port anytime that I want like during necessary update which is not common, but leave the RJ45 port completely disabled. I like the laptops that are small but a little expensive that come with UEFI (BIOS) that do not come with RJ45 port unlike the big laptops that has it.
294  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Ever Projected how to spend gambling profits while the game has not played yet? on: April 18, 2024, 05:21:13 PM
The only time I have seen something like this is only in skits, I haven’t seen anyone who called his/her friend and told them he would handle their bills for an outing just because they have a game that they are sure they’ll win (there might be some who would actually do something similar but it can’t be me). It is known that no game is 100% sure, even some with 80% chance of winning still end up being wrong because of a small mistake.
I also have not seen anyone done something like this before. If my friend said he will take care of the bill, he will. If I tell my friends that they should not worry that we should go out and have some entertaining moment, I will not disappoint them. This is because I have the money I will spend there on my bank account. If the money is not much, I would have told them to know what they will buy. I do not see OP telling the truth but there is nothing impossible on earth.
295  Economy / Gambling / Re: Is it possible for Liverpool to qualify today? on: April 18, 2024, 05:13:41 PM
It is more possible than it may seem. Atalanta's legs have gone a little. They threw away a 2 goal lead to Verona on Monday. Liverpool have had more rest.

It is absolutely possible, but unlikely.
Liverpool is also not that performing well in premier league. The club won the last 4th and 5th matches, it drew the 3rd and lost 2nd and the last match. But the way Europa is, the players will have more energy to play. But if Liverpool even only won the last match, the club would have been on the first position in premier league. Liverpool might win but it is not performing good recently which makes me not to have the confidence.

It is absolutely possible, but unlikely.
In champions league and Europa, it is possible. Even in football, it is possible.
296  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Ways to Appreciate Your Favorite Casino Beyond Playing on: April 18, 2024, 08:33:16 AM
Recommending the site and telling friends, sharing the post on daily basis is  what I'll rather do in cause of appreciating my favorite casinos,it's no big deal you know but mostly we don't have to prioritize this cause the sites already have promoters and so on that gives the sites visibilities all round. So this my way of appreciating the casino beyond just playing.
We do not have to prioritize it but if you are with friends as you are discussing about gambling sites, you will talk about the best ones that you enjoy using and from there you people can talk about your favorite gamble sites. It is not that it will get to the point of looking for someone to join. But some people will prefer to do that and tell the people to use the referral link but that is not that you are helping the gambling site but you are working for them.
297  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum command lines on: April 18, 2024, 08:18:49 AM
It may worth mentioning that even using console, it's still impossible to generate a BIP39 seed phrase in electrum.
Yes I know. The reason I said BIP39 is because Electrum requires additional bits for it. But you are right because we are talking about Electrum and that is used in the command line to generate the 24 words seed phrase.

Thank you everyone for trying to provide a solution. I do not think the command line is what I can fully know of. I know some already which I think are the most important for me. The only one I prefer most is generation of legacy addresses seed phrase while I am able to do others without command line on Electrum. I am no more diving into this.
298  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Less than 24 hours to Bitcoin halving and my Birthday! on: April 18, 2024, 07:36:26 AM
Yeah I had to check the calendar because it seemed a little too early. The bitcoin clock calculators have been fairly accurate and won’t be this quick. He got my hopes up a little.
It is not a little too early if you check what is in the image that OP posted. It remain less than 2 days and the closer it is the more accurate the estimation and it is already close.

What makes it strange, this time Bitcoin price "day after" halving might be lower than "30 days before" because currently the price is hovering around $61K. Something new might happen, probably the halving event ATH will be created in this year instead of next year, who knows.
It is not strange because bitcoin has not grown in price before halving until this time. Bitcoin got to all-time-high even before halving.
299  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Airgapped device for Electrum installation on: April 17, 2024, 06:03:40 PM
Being open-source and amnestic are the primary reasons you should use Tails for the OS of your airgapped computer. Privacy is a byproduct of these.
I am sure of the privacy part. If you use Windows or macOS for online wallet, you will have no privacy. But if you use anyone of the two for airgapped wallet and the wallet remain airgapped, you have the privacy that you are talking about.

In addition to Z-tight's response, the answer to the question "Can my crypto asset get stolen in an airgapped, malware infected device?", is yes. One simple way for a malware to accomplish it, is that when the time comes and you sign a transaction from the airgapped device, without your knowledge, you sign a transaction with broken cryptography which can be claimed by the attacker.
Can you explaining this better?  I mean you can do the breakdown about how it can be possible.
300  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum command lines on: April 17, 2024, 05:21:14 PM
Code:
help()

Example. When I use the code, I went to i and I saw "ismine". This makes it not understandable as I was expecting ismine("your bitcoin address"). Also that is how other ones are. Is there not a way that I can get it like in my example like ismine("your bitcoin address")?

Electrum console enables you to execute Python codes just like the Python interface, so to call a function you must put () next to the command.
See details of the codes here https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/blob/master/electrum/commands.py

Code:
make_seed(self, nbits=None, language=None, seed_type=None):
ismine(self, address, wallet: Abstract_Wallet = None):
help(self):
Do you now know what 256 means? and how to call help?
I did not really understand what is in that link as I was looking for the one for ismine but I do not see it.

256 should mean the bits of entropy for 24 words BIP39 seed phrase generation.
