I also agree with you adopting segwit is better solution  than accepting  some random altcoin just because they are in news or being promoted by few millionaires.

However segwit  is not yet adopted by many bitcoin related services specially by casino and wallets,if there will be lightening network in future than also it might  take years to get adopted by majority of services just like how segwit is still in its adoption phase.

Price increase = when there will be some good news about the coin
Price decrease = When there is FUD against coin or when there will be zero development on coin

Other than this demand and new supply of the coin can also affect the price, some whales might also pump and dump coins in random basis.

Don't buy any coin which someone will suggest you, you should look at its chart first and only buy it if it is trading at some constant level for really long time and have its ATH (all time high) price at very high point.

Most of the alts are returning back to their bitcoin ATH so buying coins with top volume with bitcoin can be profitable right now.

Yobit still have high trading volume and many traders are trading there for really long time but when you will get some trouble than you might have to wait for months to get it resolved also many of the wallets remain off always and it is full of shitcoins with zero volume. They never delist coin that has no any development going and zero trading volume.

I will not trust yobit with my bitcoin.
