281  Other / Beginners & Help / Mining rig far from the router - possible wifi solution? on: May 14, 2013, 02:06:25 PM
Hi,

I want to place the my rig in the basement but it's far about 70mt and there are couple of thick walls in between...I can't place any cable since the basement is detached from home and is over a public road so the only way is via wifi.

I was thinking about a wifi booster, I guess that I need one for the rig and one for the router... no problem for the rig but the router is in my room and I don't want to have a 1watt booster@2mt from my head  Roll Eyes
Anyone can suggest me a possible setup or any similar experience to share? Maybe a combination of booster and directional antennas?
282  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][YAC] yacoin: yet another altcoin. START is now. on: May 08, 2013, 10:18:07 AM
I haven't had anything for over an hour now lol

Is it better to just add just one node ie  -addnode=82.211.30.212 or multiples? ie -addnode=78.21.9.49 etc

Same here, it's about an hour from the last transaction received, but the cpus are working...is this ok?  Huh

Should have this as webpage like coinchoose. That adjusts listing hash rate and other metrics but hash rate would be the ranking metric from APIs that developers submit to you from blockchain explorers like Joe's for FRC http://1.cr.rs/. You might be able to monetize this Xorox and cut your work on the thread down and it would cut down on the FUD and unnecessary commentary as the  hash rate metric would be a "FAIR" indicator of the health of each coin as opposed to one person or groups fan-boy opinions that are bias and no one should be the arbiters of the altcoins that is what the datum is for correct? If you don't someone will do this soon I suspect.

I can buy a server and domain, thats easy. but im no coder , I would need a partner.

I'm a webdev and I've some hosting space ( php+mysql+litespeed ) that I can freely use for any kind of project.... if you need some help I'm here  Smiley

Cpu mining had some meaning 3 years ago when btc was still green, now (like eretron said ) it's worthless...all the mining is done with GPU or even better hardware like ASICS.
Let's say your cpu have a tdp of 105watt, with a recent graphics card that have a similar power consumption ( for example an ati hd7770 ) you will have about 170MHash/s

I've too a question about the moody chart, what exacly  represent the blue and yellow lines? The average values between ask and bid or a sort of short prediction?
287  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Question about this chart on: May 04, 2013, 06:08:23 AM
and some orders are false/fake.
they will be pulled once they start being tested/bought/sold into.

Yeah, that sell wall @ 90 was from yesterday and it's still here today but it's probabily a fake because it almost halved for a short time

It seems strange to me that there are not other alternative to avalon and bfl, is so hard to put an asic chip... the entire board seems relative small and simple and probably exits already developer boards available from the chip companies
Just for curiosity, anyone know wicch chip bfl use? Maybe Altera?

LOL - you clearly don't quite know what an ASIC is. Altera are programmable chips - FPGA's. I programmed a lot of them when I worked for Beckman Coulter.

ASICs are custom made chips. They are very efficient because they will only run that one single application they are built for. You have to design the chip yourself, then pay a wafer manufacturer to make it for you, and they don't like to make stuff in small quantities.

Building an ASIC is not an easy task, and its not cheap either, which makes me very suspicious of the BFL Jalapeno....

I was told 500k-1m by someone that works at Coherent Logix...  does that sound about right?   I imagine Avalon was able to get it done much cheaper, seeing as how most of these components are made in china/taiwan

Yes I admit I didn't know much about, now it make more sense...thanks for the clarification
