Rand Paul
America's First Green President?

Following in the footsteps of his outspoken father, Rand Paul was in favor of decriminalizing marijuana before it was popular – or at least before it was as popular as it is today. Now a United States senator and having announced his intention to become the 45th president of the United States, Paul could provide marijuana activists a friend in a place they’ve never had one: the White House.

While he’s said that he personally opposes using it, Paul has backed relaxation of marijuana laws throughout his time in politics, arguing that loosening the Republican party's official stance on marijuana enforcement, primarily by endorsing the states' right to determine the legality of the substance, could help the GOP reach out to younger voters.

"Look, the last two presidents could conceivably have been put in jail for their drug use, and I really think, you know, look what would have happened, it would have ruined their lives," Paul said. "They got lucky, but a lot of poor kids, particularly in the inner city, don't get lucky. They don't have good attorneys, and they go to jail for these things and I think it's a big mistake."

Paul has been a consistent ally of the industry, most recently unveiling a bill, initially co-sponsored with New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker and New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, to remove federal penalties for medical marijuana use and reschedule cannabis from a Schedule I to a Schedule II substance, allowing significant research and easier access for physicians and patients. The bill currently has a bi-partisan coalition of 10 senate co-sponsors.

New Book, ‘Clinton Cash,’ Questions Foreign Donations to Foundation

The book does not hit shelves until May 5, but already the Republican Rand Paul has called its findings “big news” that will “shock people” and make voters “question” the candidacy of Hillary Rodham Clinton.

“Clinton Cash: The Untold Story of How and Why Foreign Governments and Businesses Helped Make Bill and Hillary Rich,” by Peter Schweizer — a 186-page investigation of donations made to the Clinton Foundation by foreign entities — is proving the most anticipated and feared book of a presidential cycle still in its infancy.

The book, a copy of which was obtained by The New York Times, asserts that foreign entities who made payments to the Clinton Foundation and to Mr. Clinton through high speaking fees received favors from Mrs. Clinton’s State Department in return.

“We will see a pattern of financial transactions involving the Clintons that occurred contemporaneous with favorable U.S. policy decisions benefiting those providing the funds,” Mr. Schweizer writes.

The rest is behind a paywall but this was the gist of it...http://mobile.nytimes.com/2015/04/20/us/politics/new-book-clinton-cash-questions-foreign-donations-to-foundation.html?referrer=&_r=0

This is just fine by me, let them take care of each other. I'm sure both of them have their hands on 'hand-me down' US military equipment so I'm sure they can keep themselves busy for a while.

P.S. Be careful while quoting trolls. It's common here to put on ignore trolls along with those who quotes them.
P.S I agree. But trolls are also deleting posts at a high rate now. It's not Adam doing it. It's a guy that doesn't want to be identified.
Interesting, you really think that trolls are erasing their posts at this point? Stop, it and you know it isn't likely. There's something happening in this thread and none of us are controlling it atm. If you think so, then hallelujah for you. There's some extra activity going on here that doesn't normally happen, go figure.
I'm not talking about trolls erasing their own posts. But someone is deleting a lot of posts now. My experience is that he deletes posts related to the integrity of Jorge and other people. And it's not Adam doing this.
Adam is no where to be seen in this line of work, so forget about him. Try not to be a stooge on this level, ty very much.

No Obama invite for Russell Crowe's birthday
Blames Rand of course
Russell Crowe says there’s a reason President Obama didn’t call him up and invite him over to the White House on his birthday: Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.).

The Academy Award winner marked his 51st birthday on Tuesday while in the nation’s capital promoting his latest film, “The Water Diviner.”

“I was expecting, actually, you know April the 7th that [Obama] might call up and say, ‘Come around for a barbecue, you know, I know it’s your birthday,” Crowe told ITK with a laugh on the red carpet at the U.S. Navy Memorial.

“But you know, he must be busy,” the “Gladiator” star said. “He must be busy dealing with the Rand Paul deal, other things, world events.”

Paul announced he was running for president in 2016 earlier that day. But Crowe — who tweeted his support for Obama in 2012, calling him “the light and the future“ — is remaining mum about who he’s rooting for in the next race for the White House. “Absolutely no opinion about that at this point in time,” he said.

And for those that aren't up to date on Russell Crowe, he's the main actor in the movie Gladiator. Imagine that or disrespect it.

Dude, it helps when you bust out a paragraph or two about the content of your link to entice folks to check it out, rather than just expecting peeps to almost blindly peruse a link which takes extra effort. I would hope you'd help us all out and tease us a little more substantially. Thx Smiley

I just hope that book doesn't just become a niche in the right wing arena and that it shoots up the best sellers list and infiltrates independents and liberals alike. This bribery that she's doing that she learned from Bill back in his time is on steroids these days. I just hope that liberals check out her and her old man's game and see at least part of the corruption that is inherent in the lives of those two. Ultimately, Hillary belongs in prison for the rest of her natural life and then in hell for eternity.

So why does Hillary take so much money from abusers of women’s rights?

...
Oh? You don’t think that’s a change in the game?

I’m not necessarily arguing that this is a winning electoral strategy, at least on its own, and Paul is not my preference anyway. But he is absolutely correct to challenge the premise of questions reporters ask him instead of just cowering and taking it. Every other Republican should follow his lead on this score.

And as for Hillary, yes, she does need to be asked why she takes money from the people who abuse women and girls - and if Rand Paul and other Republicans keep talking about it, the media will be forced to ask her that question whether they want to or not. Assuming, that is, she ever takes any questions.

GOP White House hopefuls bicker over America's role in world

NASHUA, N.H. (AP) — Rand Paul lashed out Saturday at military hawks in the Republican Party in a clash over foreign policy dividing the packed GOP presidential field.

Paul, a first-term senator from Kentucky who favors a smaller U.S. footprint in the world, said that some of his Republican colleagues would do more harm in international affairs than would leading Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton.

"The other Republicans will criticize the president and Hillary Clinton for their foreign policy, but they would just have done the same thing — just 10 times over," Paul said on the closing day of a New Hampshire GOP conference that brought about 20 presidential prospects to the first-in-the-nation primary state.

"There's a group of folks in our party who would have troops in six countries right now, maybe more," Paul said.

Rand Paul receives standing ovation as he delivers libertarian message to New Hampshire faithful
Kentucky senator Rand Paul attacks US intervention in Syria during presidential campaign stop, as he appeals to Republicans to reach out to poorer voters

Rand Paul rounded on the Republican establishment as he made his pitch for the support of party activists in the key state of New Hampshire.

From appearing in jeans to delivering a withering attack on the record of other Republicans, the Kentucky senator made sure he stood out from his rivals.

"I got tired of seeing people in my party getting in charge and not doing anything at all," he told activists at the party's “Leadership Summit” in Nashua, New Hampshire.

"They all look alike, they all sound alike, they all dress alike and nothing ever changes."

Mr Paul was the latest of the Republican hopefuls to make his pitch for the backing of activists in a state which will set the tone for the race for the party's nomination next year. A strong showing in the New Hampshire primary and the Iowa caucus will give a candidate a huge advantage in a crowded field, while a weak performance frequently proves fatal to an aspirant's chances.

Taking the stage to a background of thumping music, Mr Paul received standing ovations before, after and even during his address.

GBTC might start trading on monday, but I would think Gemini/Coin would want to comply with the final BitLicense before they launched.

As I understand, Gemini (the Winkles' exchange) depends only on ordinary bureaucratic licenses (MSB, MTB, whatever).  If  Coinbase can function, they should be able to function too (unless they are based in NY and have to wait for the BitLicense because of that).

The COIN ETF is more complicated: it must be approved by the SEC, which is not just a bureaucratic formality.  There is no way to tell how long the SEC will take to decide, or whather it will get approved at all.  (In fact, I have read somewhere that, the longer the SEC takes to decide, the less likely is that it will be approved.)

whather
I find it hard to believe that the heavyweight attorney that specializes in this SEC stuff can't make it happen or know the approach to making it a high probability. I'm sure she has had clients that work in key areas of the SEC and/or is on a first name basis w/ politicians that can properly lean on the needed personnel to lock this up. Furthermore, I'm sure major interest across wall street and the hedge fund scene want this type of thing up and running to put portions of their assets into it for an intense growth wing.
2817  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Are You Voting For Rand Paul? on: April 19, 2015, 08:19:06 PM
I lean left on most issues but I'd vote for Rand Paul before Hillary Clinton.  I imagine that's what it will come to.  I can't stand this mass-hysteria in America... "Hillary the inevitable..."  what nonsense.  I'm sorry, but Hillary doesn't have what it takes to be President.  I don't trust her and I don't think she's strong enough.  She called in sick and has dodged Benghazi hearing.  You don't pull up lame and shirk Secretary of Defense duties like that and expect to get my vote.  I love Obama.  Can't stand Hillary.  I'd vote for her husband before I'd vote for her.

I'd vote for Bill Clinton.  Actually, Elizabeth Warren is a better candidate than Hillary Clinton.   I hope Hillary gets heckled into oblivion.  I don't see how shes so "inevitable".
You must be a left-leaning libertarian of sorts because very few progressives would be so truthful w/ themselves in regards to Hillary and seeing what she's really about. I'll have to disagree w/ ya on voting for the guy that most normal people wouldn't want their daughter encountering in a room w/o supervision. Wink

Rand Paul attacks Clinton and names the enemy of the US – 'radical Islam'
The Kentucky senator also asks Republicans to help him take party’s message to ‘rich, poor, black, white, brown’ as he campaigns for 2016 presidential nomination

Rand Paul on Saturday attacked Hillary Clinton, the only declared Democratic candidate for president so far, over her record as secretary of state under Barack Obama, her use of a private email server while in that job and the human rights records of some donors to her charitable foundation.

The Kentucky senator also asked Republicans to help him take the party’s message to “new people… rich, poor, black, white, brown” as he campaigns for the presidential nomination in 2016.

Speaking in Nashua, New Hampshire, at the Republican Leadership Summit – where most of the declared and potential GOP candidates for president were scheduled to speak on Friday and Saturday – the libertarian-tinged candidate largely focused on foreign policy, an area in which he has been vulnerable to attack over his supposedly isolationist stance.
