2801  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: EWBF's CUDA Zcash miner on: July 28, 2017, 08:20:29 PM
The GTX 1050ti isn't exactly a high-end GPU, expecting it to get high sol/s is silly.

2802  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Can I mine any coins with a 1GB GPU? on: July 28, 2017, 12:03:41 AM
Any i7 should be able to mine Monero for some profit (though the older ones will be LOW profit).
As I recall the Wolf CPU miner is the way to go there.

I'm not sure how well any of the current ZCash miners work with pre-GCN cards if at all - Claymore 9.7 in some testing I did at one point was able to work with one of my A10-5700 iGPU (VERY slow but more due the very slow ram than anything else I think, my A10-7890k wasn't a lot better) so that version SHOULD work with a 6870 since they're both Terrascale of the SAME generation.

Monero - might work but not going to work well on that old and inefficient of a GPU.

It might be viable "mining" GridCoin via the MooWrapper project on BOINC, that card SHOULD work fairly well on RC5-72 work as it's halfway between the 7850 and 7870 on core count and very similar clock rates, and the RC5-72 client used by the MooWrapper project gets along VERY well with terrascale AMD GPUs (my A10-5700 iGPUs pull well over 400 Mkeys/sec with 384 cores at 750ish Mhz, which is in line with my HD 7750 GPUs and A10-7890K iGPUs pulling 600ish MKeys/sec on 512 cores at 800 Mhz).

Not sure if it would cover electric if your electric rate is high, but you're going to run into that no matter WHAT you try to mine on it.

2803  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FoldingCoin - MINE FOR MEDICINE- PHASE 2.0 on: July 27, 2017, 11:51:53 PM
BTW, the difficulty of folding increase exponentially, this is pretty scary..

Since May it's actually more linear than exponential.

But the difference with other cryptos is that Folders are happy of the increased difficulty as it actually means more Science done by F@H and increased hope to find cures for Cancer, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's... Cheesy

Non-Curecoin non-FLDC folders are undoubtedly happy for the most part (a few are probably unhappy at the increased competition like some of the EVGA team), the rest of us are .... mixed.

It's a nice consolation for our reduced income though.

 9-)

2804  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Combine mining with 2 R9 380X + 1 RX 580 on Asrock H270 pro4 on: July 27, 2017, 11:48:26 PM
I wasn't aware the RX 580 COULD run on the 15.12 drivers, since those cards showed up AFTER that version of the driver was released.

Great driver version for the older R-series and HD-series cards though.

2805  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How to mine with Litecoin-qt w/o 3rd party miner on: July 27, 2017, 11:45:34 PM
Try using an actual miner (probably have to go back a few generations as I'm pretty sure ALL current miner software has removed Scrypt support) instead of the wallet.

The wallet miner was ALWAYS a low-performance thing, and very quickly got abandoned by pretty much everyone once the dedicated miner programs started showing up BECAUSE it had horrible performance - even when Litecoin WAS still cpu-mineable for profit.

I'm very shocked that any recent wallet version CAN mine at all.

WHY do you want to "specifically use the wallet" to mine with, even as an experiment?
That's just not making any sense to me.

2806  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Gridcoin (GRC) - first coin utilizing BOINC - Official Thread on: July 27, 2017, 11:33:05 PM
Now if we could just get this "erkan" person to quite spamming this topic with their worthless drivel.

Yes, I've put them on ignore, but it's STILL irritating seeing 90% or so of recent posts as "this user is currently ignored".

Is the problem solved now? No more fork?

Yes, The fork is resolved.

The fork may be resolved, but most of the pools are still down or mostly-down.

2808  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain looks like they're releasing a 15GH/s DASH miner called the AntMiner D3 on: July 27, 2017, 11:22:08 PM
Everyone is saying the Difficulty will rise to the point where it becomes unprofitable

Not true, but it will rise enough to drop the profitability WAY LOWER than the current "incredible" calculations indicate quite quickly once any of the 2'nd gen X11 miners (specifically the new Pinidea, the A5, or the D3) start shipping in quantity.
Like on Litecoin though, the rise will be limited some by availability of miners to buy - there just isn't enough foundry capacity available on the current 14/16nm node for small companies like Bitmain and Innosilicon and Bitfury and BW.COM etc to make as many miners as they WANT to.

It'll likely be quite a while before any of the 2'nd gen X11 miners become UNprofitable unless you have a very high electric rate.

The resale value on an ASIC miner will NOT go up over time, though it might show short "spikes" when coin prices spike, like the last 3 months period or so.
S9 never got to the point it was UNprofitable, though sales dropped some as the profitability dropped, prior to the large Bitcoin price rise of the last 4 months or so.
A lot of that was driven by the big jump RIGHT AFTER the S9 was released, when the Chinese exchanges were allowed to accept Yuan after a year-to-two-year prohibition - then Bitcoin price flattened out for several months, very slow climb with a lot of bouncing 'till the next big jump hit this spring.

2809  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Best country on earth for altcoin mining - share suggestions on: July 27, 2017, 11:14:44 PM
Yes, it is extremly hard (and expensive) to arrange cooling system in place where even water is an issue. If you compare it to Georgia with this regard, Georgia is definite winner.

However, Washington is something to explore further. What about taxes? Is not it making the project expensive?
Thanks a lot for sharing so many details for all of us.

Really? Washington State can offer under 3 cents/kwh?  Shocked

Kuwait is extremely hard.

I presume you mean Kuwait is extremely HOT. It's also dry though so evap cooling would work well - if water is available enough.

There are 3 County PUD in Washington State that offer less than 3c / KWH all costs included rates - Chelan and Douglas counties are close to that on RESIDENTIAL and SMALL business rates, their mid-size and large business rates are less.
Grant county is close to 4.5 for residential/small business, but once you get above 200KW into the large business rate they are in the 3 or under range as well.

These 3 counties offer the lowest rates in the country by quite a bit - the next lowest areas in the US I'm aware of barely dip under 5 cents/KWH for INDUSTRIAL level rates.
All 3 have local power rates subsidised quite a bit, as they all have considerable hydropower via large Columbia River dams and sell off the excess power to outside areas - mostly the Seattle/Tacoma area but at least some as far away as California and they make enough over production costs on those long-term contracts to be able to sell to locals for less than cost of production.

For reference, the Grand Coulee dam is located partly in Grant County, partly in Okanogon County (it dams the Columbia River, which forms the boundary for the 2 counties in that area), but is owned by the Federal Bonneville Power Administration - and provides ZERO power to Grant County as far as I know (it's power output tends to get shipped a lot farther away).

There are quite a few areas that have 1 GB service, or fiber backbones with even higher data rates available throughout the world, it's getting fairly common any more for mid-to-high pop density areas.
All 3 of the Central Washington PUDs mentioned above have a "fiber backbone" that runs alongside their power transmission network with a primary usage intend of remote meter reading.
Access to it is provided to customers via local ISPs and "terminator boxes" that offer 100 Mb Ethernet by default but do have "higher speed" fiber ports available as an option, as well as linking into the power meter(s) for the location the box is at.

Washington has no income tax (possible exception for Seattle, but that recent city ordinance is being legally challenged on the basis that it violates STATE law and does not apply to the 3 counties in question anyway).
You still have to pay Federal taxes, but you're going to run into that anywhere in the US.
Sales tax is kinda high, but no worse than many other states - I was paying the same sales tax rate when I was in Iowa due to a "local city sales tax" where I was living.

Otherwise, no clue what you might be referring to on the "What about taxes?" question.

Going by "country wide rates" doesn't WORK, too many large and even some mid-size and small countries have VARIABLE rates depending on where you are IN the country.
The USA for example has rates that vary from a hair under 3 cents/kwh to over 30 (THIRTY) cents/kwh (I think Hawaii might be higher than that, but California gets to around 30 in at least some areas).
Heck, the US has fairly wide variations within a STATE in most cases.

Didn't KNC base their mining operations in Sweden or Norway somewhere, due to low hydropower cost + cool climate?

2810  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Fifth alt coin thread last four got too big. on: July 27, 2017, 11:03:09 PM
Phil and colleagues,

What we are doing before 31st of July with coins we have at: poloniex, coinbase, hashnest and other services?

Electrum? Bitcoin Core wallet? Or just leave them on those websites?

I would not leave Bitcoin on any exchange - but I don't normally do that anyway except for small quantities that aren't worth the transaction fee (yet) to move.

Convert to cash, spend on more mining gear on or before July 30, convert to a different coin, or leave in your own wallet in that order are the safest options.

2811  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain looks like they're releasing a 15GH/s DASH miner called the AntMiner D3 on: July 27, 2017, 08:06:50 AM
Hi,

When i place the order of D3 i forgot to buy the psu..... now is out of stock.... do you know where to buy a good compatibile psu?
Thank you very much.

JPP

You can use any PSU. Try EVGA.

EVGA G2 1300 would handle the D3 - but doesn't have enough connectors unless you dig up some extra EVGA-specific "dual" PCI-E cables.

Stock IIRC it comes with 2 "dual" and 4 "single" cables, you need at least 4 "dual" and the other 2 can be "single" to get to the 10 connectors this unit needs.

It's also a LITTLE marginal on capacity, so you might want to go with the G2 1600 instead (which I think DOES have enough power connectors, but does cost a fair bit more).

I *suspect* it may be a couple months for the next batch, due to the turnaround time between being able to order a new batch of chips and when they get delivered - all the foundries that can MAKE the 14/16nm tech chips for current-gen miners are SWAMPED which causes some significant delays for the "small fry" like Bitmain when they need more chips.
Next batch might go on PRE-ORDER sooner, though.

[New Wallet version 1.2.9]

burstcoin-1.2.9

Crashes with no error message when the "experimental" GPU accel option is enabled, after about 30 seconds of "hang".

Doesn't matter what "manual" settings I use, or if I use the "auto" option.

Sad to hear that, you could try reduce this default values
(guess you ensured that not cpu was used for openCL)
Code:
burst.oclMemPercent=50
burst.oclHashesPerEnqueue=1000

AMD CPUs support OpenCL - I run JMiner on quite a few of them.

Turns out a complete resynch from scratch only took 10-12 hours or so even without the OpenCL stuff though.

2815  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What's this miner worth? on: July 26, 2017, 08:34:24 PM
The R9 270x was a varient on the HD 7870, slightly faster RAM and some BIOS upgrades but the SAME gpu at it's core.

My HD 7870 cards were viable ZEC miners, but only pulled ballpark 150-160 sol/s with high overclocks as I recall - not BIG money makers but profitable even with their fairly high electric usage.

If you can get the rig REAL cheap, it might be worth mining on it for a while *IF* you have VERY VERY cheap to FREE electric.

They won't mine ETH and probably won't mine any of the ETH offshoots like ETC due to the DAG file being too big.
Kind of a bummer, as they were pulling 10-11 Mh/s on ETH during the final days of "2GB cards mining ETH" which wasn't too horrid for that level of a card.

Would need quite a bit more info to come up with a reasonable price for it.
2816  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Can I mine any coins with a 1GB GPU? on: July 26, 2017, 08:27:42 PM
What? You can do Bitcoin with that. Seriously!

This was 6+ years ago ---- Bitcoin is not possible to mine with any GPU in 2017.

It's entirely possible to mine Bitcoin with a GPU - it's just not possible to mine ENOUGH to pay the electric usage, much less the cost of the card.

2817  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How to mine with Litecoin-qt w/o 3rd party miner on: July 26, 2017, 08:24:55 PM
Litecoin, like any scrypt coin, hasn't been worth mining on GPUs for ages - much less CPUs which is the only option the QT client EVER supported.

I don't think CURRENT versions of the QT client support mining at all any more due to that.

ASIC took over all of the Scrypt coins a few years back.

2818  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Best country on earth for altcoin mining - share suggestions on: July 26, 2017, 08:22:02 PM
USA - if you move to one of the 3 Central Washington State counties with the cheapest power cost in the country.
Can easily get under 3 cents/kwh

Perhaps Kuwait, *IF* you are a native or have a real good connection there, as electric is super cheap by report to a degree you could AFFORD to A/C your miners.

2819  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Where are you storing your miners? on: July 26, 2017, 08:20:01 PM
I rent a small commercial space and run the miners in the back of it - the front is my "man cave".

2820  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Im that one idiot.. (Algo question) on: July 26, 2017, 08:03:23 PM
If SHA256d is "run it through SHA256 twice" then in theory it could be made to work with an ASIC via a rewrite of the software that runs the ASIC - but not sure how efficiently it could be done.
Probably fairly good efficiency if the code is set up correctly and if the ASIC is designed to handle one piece of SHA256 data at a time rather than processing blocks of SHA256 data.
