2821  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Let's vote for a new universal logo for all cryptocurrencies on: March 17, 2015, 02:27:47 PM
Which logo do you consider most effective as a universal logo for all cryptocurrencies?

Do we really need a universal logo for cryptocurrencies?

I like having all the different alt-currency logo styles, would be a shame to bulk them all together.
2822  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Virtual currency in real-life strife as Bitcoin suffers bankruptcy blow on: March 17, 2015, 02:07:28 PM
We need to send an urgent message to the CEO of Bitcoin!!!1!

Shoddy article really, at least he didn't mention darknets, silkroad etc

"Cocker said he personally would not be sad to see the demise of the virtual currency", I'd much prefer to see the demise of worthless pieces of paper (fiat).
2823  Economy / Services / Re: DADICE.com Signature Campaign - The BEST Campaign Yet | OPEN! | JOIN THE FUN! on: March 17, 2015, 01:45:47 PM
When is the next payment?

Tomorrow. Counting is being done..

The cut off is tomorrow or today?

Today, in fact around now.

Does that apply to new applicants? I signed up on the 11th March so was hoping I had until tomorrow to fulfil the minimum post count.

All posts will be counted within around 5 hours. Yours have unfortunately been counted. 11/20 required. Sad

Campaign period is given in the spreadsheet clearly. Give or take a few hours.
Wednesday   TO   Tuesday   (Payment on
3/11/2015      3/17/2015   Wednesday)

So, what do you suggest?

Ahh I didn't see that (not sure how I missed it lol). I don't mind forfeiting this weeks posts if you keep me on the campaign.

Edit: yeah I'll try and make the required post count within an hour.

2825  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Rakuten Starts Accepting Bitcoin in the US on: March 17, 2015, 01:35:31 PM
Great news, hope they decide to roll out bitcoin payments in the EU aswell.

Never heard of Rakuten before but the more merchants on board the better. Now Ebay and Amazon need to step up Wink
2826  Economy / Economics / Re: How would a world with BTC as reserve currency look like? on: March 17, 2015, 12:34:32 PM
Hey guys,

I was thinking about how the world would change if it used BTC as reserve currency in the future.

- What would need to change for this to happen?
- What would change once it actually is used for it?
- What would be the benefits of this?
- What would be the downside of this?

Lets hear some answers, then I will tell what I think will change. I don't want to bias this thread!

Being able to track and see what your bitcoin taxes are being spent on (by the government) would be interesting to say the least.

Browsing through the financial records of all politicians would surely be an eye-opener Smiley

They wouldn't allow for such transparency. They would probably use a mixer or something.

You're probably right, there would be an uprising if people realized how much money our governments waste on a daily basis.

2827  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Clean Reinstall of Windows 7 on Laptop with Bitcoins in Electrum on: March 17, 2015, 12:24:11 PM
If you open Electrum, select 'Wallet' and then click 'Seed' it will show you the 12 word seed (you'll have to enter your password).

Once you've got it you can wipe you laptop, reinstall Electrum and re-enter the seed. You could always make a backup of your wallet if you're worried about losing your bitcoin though it's not necessary.

2829  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: what are your main sources of Bitocin/Crypto news? on: March 16, 2015, 01:55:31 PM
what are your main sources of Bitocin/Crypto news?
or wich would you recommend?

youtube, twitter, http, rss, etc

edit: plz specify links. might help me and others, specially newcomers Smiley thanks in advance

My main sources of bitcoin news are Coindesk and Reddit (although you'll often find the exact same articles on both sites). Tend to prefer reddit as their are generally more comments (I often learn more from the comment section than the article itself Smiley)

This forum is pretty handy for keeping up-to-date as long as you can sift through all the trolling/spamming.

2830  Economy / Services / Re: Money Drop For The Homeless on: March 16, 2015, 12:43:23 PM
I wouldn't support this not because I'm against giving money to the homeless and supporting them to get off the streets but if you give directly there's a very high chance that money will end up funding drugs/alcohol. If you want to donate money to support homeless people then I'd recommend giving it through the more formalised and proper channels which is more likely to help the homeless people.

I appreciate what you're saying but it is a big misconception that all homeless people are drug addicts / alcoholics, I'd even say a majority of them want to better themselves if given half a chance. The stereotype portrayed by the media of pissed-soaked tramps drinking paint stripper is far far from the truth.

Really hope this money drop goes well (plus it's good PR for bitcoin Wink )
2831  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Multiple wallets on: March 16, 2015, 12:23:34 PM
Pretty much. I've always got at least five 'hot' wallets, certainly wouldn't consider keeping my spending btc in just one client. It's good for organizing your funds, I've have a blockchain.info wallet for gambling (can access it anywhere) and I use Electrum on my home pc for buying games, software keys etc.

2832  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Here are Six Companies Who Get Rich off Prisoners on: March 14, 2015, 10:32:07 AM
Occupancy guarantees make them sound more like housing associations than for-profit prisons. There are even more industries making $$$$ from prisoner exploitation in the US.

http://www.alternet.org/news-amp-politics/9-surprising-industries-profiting-handsomely-americas-insane-prison-system

Quote
Food Supply Companies: Supplying food for prisons can be extremely profitable. Just ask the Philadelphia-based Aramark Corporation, which brings in millions of dollars bringing food to around 600 prisons in North America. Aramark’s profits continue to roll in even when the company does a terrible job. In 2014, Aramark received fines of $98,000 and $200,000 from the state of Michigan for a long list of infractions, including meal shortages, unsanitary conditions (maggots found in the food, for example) and Aramark employees smuggling contraband into prisons. But such fines were a small price to pay in light of the fact that, in December 2013, Aramark signed a three-year, $145-million contract with the state of Michigan. Aramark has had problems in other states as well, including Kentucky (where corrections officers said poor food service led to a prison riot in 2009), Florida (where state officials ended a contract with Aramark after accusing the company of boosting corporate profits by skimping on meals) and Ohio (where Aramark employees have been fired for having sex with inmates)

Quote
Clothing Manufacturers: Prisoners are making a lot more than license plates these days. A wide variety of products are being manufactured in U.S. prisons, from office furniture and bedding to sinks, toilets and clothing. All kinds of clothing is made in American prisons: shirts, hats, pants, shoes, jackets, you name it. Even Victoria’s Secret has profited from the prison-industrial complex: in the 1990s, Victoria’s Secret subcontractor Third Generation hired 35 female inmates in North Carolina to sew lingerie.

2833  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do girls use Bitcoin on webcam sites ? on: March 14, 2015, 09:41:07 AM
Your opinions and thoughts as to whether girls should use Bitcoin on webcam sites:

Why shouldn't they? Bitcoin is perfect for sending pseudo-anonymous payments, in the future I'd imagine a lot more cam sites will accept btc as payment.

Not only can you tip cam girls, you can pay for escort services if you live anywhere near Birmingham, UK Wink

2834  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is signature campaign? on: March 14, 2015, 08:56:58 AM
What is signature campaign?

A way for an advertiser to create an incentive for greedy people to fill the forum with thousands of posts of completely useless nonsense.  The advertiser offers a small payment in exchange for the user to add the advertiser's ad to the user's signature space.  The user is required to create a particular number of posts on the forum so that the advertiser feels that the ad will get noticed.  Since the average greedy unknowledgeable user doesn't have enough useful and well thought out things to say to meet the advertiser's quota, they end up just spamming threads all over the forum with useless drivel.  Serveral of the regular forum users have taken to blocking (using the "ignore" link) all users with a signature ad campaign in their signature.  Therefore, by participating in such a campaign, you significantly increase the likelihood that helpful and knowledgeable users will never see anything that you post here.

Well Mr Hamilton, you do come across as slightly elitist.

Everyone has to start somewhere with bitcoin, no doubt there are certain members taking advantage of sig campaigns but I don't think you should assume every user with paid-for signatures on their profile is unknowledgeable.
2835  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A PROFITABLE TRADE OR INVESTMENT JOURNEY, BUT HOW? on: March 14, 2015, 08:44:40 AM
As a newbie & due to my lack of knowledge about crypto market I lost my first 10 days collection of bitcoins in mid January/2015. When I saw the advertisement of a site, said that they would make 1 btc from 0.01 btc in 24 hours. I deposited the coins but they all gone.
After this I lost few doges last month to coinsdouble. Again this month lost to BTC-PROFIT. After these I started to read the topics of this forum very carefully. Hope this will help me to recognize the gold.
Now I'm more careful. But still in dilemma of how to get more coins? Really there is no genuine trader to help me to make my journey to this world profitable?

There's no easy way to aquire bitcoin, any service offering 'interest' on btc deposits is guaranteed to be a scam / ponzi (just take a quick look through the scam accusation board).

Trading alts is also very risky, I'd avoid investing in them if you don't know what you're doing and haven't done your research.

Surprised they only weigh 200g.
2839  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could the Federal Reserve Issue Their Own Cryptocurrency? on: March 11, 2015, 12:54:55 PM
Yes they could but there isn't any need when we've already got Bitcoin.

No need for more shitcoins...especially centralised ones issued by the Fed.
