The key here is also to focus on marketing outside the crypto community, if there is a gateway to get regular people in then this app is one of the best candidates, at the end it comes down to promotion which the team has done a good job. If gems can reach 5% of whatsapps marketcap in the future it would be great, it has a better chance in doing than the regular altcoin because it's very simple to be used by the common person, but like it said promotion should be aimed towards outside the crypto scene aswell.

TaunSew, buddy, the funds are stored in multi sig and get released on a milestone basis. The dev gets paid per development and doesn't own any funds at all. Yes most are scams and i have been scammed swell, but this one is definitely not. Tom Ding (Koinify CEO) expressed "Part of our job is to help them establish things like multisig and create milestones-based vesting to make sure that developer incentives are in line with what they promised." I haven't seen any other projects doing this, those are scams |

I think gems is different than all the other cryptos which are very complicated to use, this tech is the most simple way of using crypto and might be the killer app to get mainstream. It doesn't aim just bitcointalk users like 90% of coins here who never see the COMMON person with no crypto background use it. With gems i can get my friends to use crypto so damn easy and if their friend use it, it can spread pretty fast. You don't even need an address or qr code to make transactions. It really is the next innovation in social networking. A simple app like whatsapp is worth 4x more than bitcoins market cap. Apart from the techs, gems it is backed by bitcoin and has a serious team behind it.

Gems is empowered by Counterparty, built on top of Bitcoin. So you can send Gems to a Bitcoin adress and vice versa and you can use Bitcoin in the app aswell. I am not sure if you can also store Bitcoin in Gems Counterparty wallet, but i think it should be possible. |

8% is not much at all for such concept, this is not 'just another alt' but a project with high aims and big potential so i rather have the developers to have more funds than less, because then you know they can do bigger things.
But the more important thing is that funds are stored in multisig wallets where they get paid on a milestone basis, so they get paid per development. Adam co-founder of Counterparty (a Crypto with high reputation) releases the funds aswell, so Gems devs don't have control over the funds. That's why i like this project, there is enough funds, project is very promising, the funds are stored in multisig wallets, Gems ceo is visible and active in public relation and promotion.
