2841  Bitcoin / Electrum / Electrum fee on: February 28, 2017, 07:44:42 PM
quick question regarding any wallet.
When using Electrum or any other wallet to create your address and keys, How can you be sure that the software doesnt store or send your key somewhere?

The best way to be 100% certain is to create a cold storage electrum wallet to hold your Bitcoins on a computer that you never connect to the internet. The tutorial at this link explains how to do it.

http://docs.electrum.org/en/latest/coldstorage.html

You also create a watching only wallet using only your Bitcoin addresses (not your private keys). You let that connect to the internet to see your balances and transactions. When you want to send Bitcoins you create the transaction in the online wallet, sign it in your offline wallet, then broadcast it in your online wallet.

The main reason people create cold wallets is in case their computer gets infected with a virus, not any distrust in the safety of electrum's code.

Electrum's code is open source, and the community would soon notice if it was changed to do anything malicious with your private keys. It's constantly being reviewed by programmers in the community.
2842  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Sent btc, transaction not found on: February 28, 2017, 07:35:13 PM
Post the transaction IDs here if you don't mind making them public.

You probably sent them with too low a fee. The Bitcoin network is busier than normal, there are over 55000 transactions waiting to be confirmed, and yours will be at the back of that queue if their fee is too low.

Your Bitcoins are not lost, either the network will forget your transactions after a long time, or they will confirm and your Bitcoins will show up in the mycelium wallet. If the network forgets your transactions your Bitcoins will reappear in your electrum.

This thread explains your options.

Is the trading side of the Moon waiting for March 11th (and by the way the Full Moon is on March 12th) to harvest the fruits of years of sowing?
We'll have to wait and see. I am waiting for my seeds to grow to the Moon and for the Moon  Wink

Something's happening right now on stamp. There's less than 200 Bitcoins in an ask wall up to $1202, and nearly 500 Bitcoins in a bid wall at $1193. There's little nibbles getting eaten out of the ask wall that starts at $1199. It could soon go above $1200 again.

edit

It's $1200 on stamp again.
2844  Other / MultiBit / Re: Multibit 0.4.1 total desaster on: February 28, 2017, 05:01:47 PM
Multibit is truly awful.

Is electrum able to import the MB wallet or restore it from the "words list" thing?

No, you can't import the multibit HD wallet into electrum using the "words list" thing (wallet words). Both wallets use wallet words, but they generate a different set of addresses from the same wallet words.

Electrum generates uncompressed private keys from the wallet words, but multibit HD generates compressed private keys from them, so the addresses the two wallets generate are different.

You can import multibit HD wallet words into breadwallet, which is available for iPhones and the latest android phones. Breadwallet won't work on older androids though.

If you have an older android phone the post at this link explains how to import multibit HD wallet words into the mycelium wallet, but I'm not sure if it works because I don't know anyone who has tried it yet.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1782552.msg17940974#msg17940974

There is a complicated way to extract all the relevant private keys from multibit HD wallet words using a specially crafted offline webpage, then you can import a list of those private keys into electrum to get control back of stuck coins. The quote below explains what to do.

I posted an alternative solution to a similar problem in the post linked below, but that fix is more work. It involves putting your wallet words into an offline webpage that generates a set of addresses and private keys. You can then import any private keys containing Bitcoins into any type of wallet you want (electrum gives you instant access to your coins).

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1777815.msg17773212#msg17773212

The screenshots in the post linked below show what settings to put into the offline webpage.

I think that if the COIN ETF does get approved, any price action leading up to it is kinda irrelevant. What would be more relevant and telling is where the price goes after that, and what it would be by the end of the year.
It being the end of the month and March just a day away, do you still think this ETF will be passed and we will be able to freely purchase them and add to our portfolios now?
Or is it all just a bunch of bull and there will be nothing in just less than 2 weeks from now? Embarrassed

I can't guess if the ETF will be passed. However, the FED raised the rate in mid December, right before Bitcoin pumped, and it's due to raise the rate again at about the time the ETF decision is released. If the ETF gets denied Bitcoin will probably pump anyway because of the FED raising the rate, and if the ETF gets approved Bitcoin will probably pump twice as high.

It's Monday and it hit $1200. It's gonna be a good week.

And it also hit 8000 CNY. That's two nice round numbers for both currencies. I'm hoping they rapidly form a nice support level that we don't go back below again.
2847  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Wipe/Delete Mycelium Data on Android? on: February 27, 2017, 10:28:05 PM

However, one last question ... when I was “poking around” trying to delete the account, it gave me the option of changing the account name from the default “Account 1”, but now I can’t seem to get it to let me change the name.  Did that option cease to exist when I backed it up?  Of course I can live with that name.

Like I said, I'm not very familiar with mycelium, all I know about changing the account name is on this webpage. It explains labelling your account, although I'm not sure if that's the same as changing its name.

To label your account, press it to select it, and press the tag icon at the top.
2848  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Transaction Fee Booster on: February 27, 2017, 10:15:04 PM
I signed it with coinb.in

I don't think what I did earlier worked. I'm confused about the 2nd screen when it says choose output to deduct an additional fee from though. Can you explain what that means and how it works?
The transaction fee is the difference between the amount spent by the inputs, and the amount sent to the outputs. In order to increase the transaction fee, you either need to add a new input or reduce an output. What this software does it reduces one of the outputs, which you can choose. By default it chooses the last output.

I only have one output does that matter? Also what would you suggest I do if the recommended fee amount is more than the output amount?

I don't think it matters that you only have one output.

The size of your transction is too big for you to pay the 200 satoshis/byte recommended by bitcoinfees, or even 100 satoshis/byte.

https://bitcoinfees.21.co/

Your transaction's size is 2257 bytes, so if you paid 10 satoshis/byte your total fee would be 0.0002257 BTC (22570 satoshis). You are sending 0.001019 BTC, so you would receive 0.0007933 BTC if you paid a 10 satoshis/byte fee. Bitcoinfees says a 10 satoshis/byte should get your transaction included after another 5 blocks (in about an hour).

If you paid a 50 satoshis/byte fee about half of the Bitcoins you are sending would be used for the fee.
2849  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Wipe/Delete Mycelium Data on Android? on: February 27, 2017, 09:31:00 PM
I'm not very familiar with mycelium, but you might need to set a pin, then wait 288 blocks (2 days) before your wallet will let you backup your HD account wallet words. Your wallet won't let you repeat a backup faster as a security measure. This link explains backups.

http://support.mycelium.com/hc/en-us/articles/207045535-How-do-I-make-a-backup-

Quote
To create a backup, either tap the «Secure My Funds» button on the main page, or choose «Backup» from the pop-up menu. You will be shown a list of words, one after the other. Write those words down with pen & paper. You will then be asked to retype the words to confirm that they were written down correctly.

Once the backup has been completed, you cannot see your word list again unless you have a PIN set. This is to prevent others from getting to your current or future funds, should they get access to your phone.

*snip*

After setting a PIN and a waiting time of 288 blocks (2 days) you can create additional backups of your HD accounts

The github says the wallet file location is probably  /data/data/com.mycelium.wallet/databases/walletbacking.db

However, you won't be able to see it unless your phone is rooted.

https://github.com/mycelium-com/wallet/issues/233

Quote
Its in the app-data folder - it will be probably /data/data/com.mycelium.wallet/databases/walletbacking.db (but might be in a different base folder, depending on your phone version and setup).

Its a sqlite database file - there are various programs out there to inspect them.

But if the masterseed would be there, then mycelium would also pick it up and just start normally.

According to this thread your wallet file should be getting deleted each time you uninstall and reinstall mycelium. I never tried it, so I can't confirm whether it's correct.

Yeah please don't quote that anti semitic loon, I think most of us have him on ignore already - report and move on  Kiss

On topic: moving on up? Market doesn't seem ready to break down

The fiat's flowing back into the exchanges now it's Monday, and those wire transfers are getting processed again. I think $1200+ is incoming soon.
2851  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Transaction Fee Booster on: February 27, 2017, 05:00:01 PM
Yes, here's what I see

Ok I think I got it. Is that what I'm supposed to see in the software when it's done?

Yes, that looks right, but how did you sign the transaction in electrum with a greyed out sign button, or did you sign it with coinb.in?
2852  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Transaction Fee Booster on: February 27, 2017, 04:31:30 PM
I was able to get it to the next screen by switching to portrait mode. Where do I copy the unsigned version into Electrum?

I went to load transaction ------> from text but it says Status: unsigned . Transaction unrelated to your wallet

Is electrum's "sign" button greyed out?
2853  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Transaction Fee Booster on: February 27, 2017, 04:25:09 PM
You could try repeatedly pressing your tab key until the focus is on the "set fee" button, then pressing the tab key one more time, then pressing your enter key.

Most software lets you change which button is focused using the tab key, and simulates you pressing that button with your enter key.
2854  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Transaction Fee Booster on: February 27, 2017, 04:16:54 PM
I haven't been able to use the software to create a new raw transaction because when I enter the stuck raw transition I can't see the button's to proceed on this screen

I've tried adjusting the screen but I can't get the lower part to show
That's quite a large transaction that you have there. You have to make the window as large as possible as JavaFX does not automatically scroll the window apparently when there are too many things on it.

I've expanded the window to cover my entire screen and the farthest I can view is what is in my screenshot

Any other suggestions?

Can you adjust the resolution of your screen to a higher resolution?
2855  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Transaction Fee Booster on: February 27, 2017, 03:51:53 PM

Yes, I'm using the latest version of electrum.

I'm not sure what's going on either. I've literally spend 10+ hours trying to figure this out.

I can't withdraw coins I have elsewhere until I figure out how to confirm this transaction

Have you successfully used achow101's software to create a new raw transaction with a higher fee?

If you have then you could use the page below to sign your raw transaction instead of using electrum.

https://coinb.in/#sign

It's always best to use anything like that offline. You can download the files for that page at the link below and run it offline (or in a virtual machine if you want to be extra safe).

https://github.com/OutCast3k/coinbin/archive/master.zip

If you want to scan the zip file for viruses you can upload it to the page below that will scan it with about 50 different virus scanners.

2856  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Transaction Fee Booster on: February 27, 2017, 03:30:24 PM

In my wallet both sign and broadcast are greyed out

I'm not sure if it's an electrum bug or if you did something wrong. The electrum github link below is about a greyed out buttons bug. I thought it was fixed, and I don't have any Bitcoins out of cold storage to test with.

https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/issues/2113

There was also another bug that made electrum incompatible with coinb.in raw transactions, but again I thought it was fixed.

https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/issues/1811

Are you using the latest version of electrum (2.7.18)?
2857  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Transaction Fee Booster on: February 27, 2017, 03:16:59 PM
The screenshots below show you how to load a raw transaction in electrum and sign it.

The sign button is greyed out in the final screenshot because that transaction's already signed.

how do you open the program? When I click on Feebooster.jar file it asks me to extract everything which I already did not load program

Does the file you are double clicking look like the one highlighted in the screenshot below?

Have you got java installed on your computer?

The software can't run without java. You can download java from this site.

https://java.com/en/download/

I didn't have Java installed. Thanks

Now I've entered my txid on the first screen. What do I do on this screen?

How do I sign with Electrum as well?

Will you be using electrum to sign your new transaction?

The bitcointalk image proxy wont show images uploaded to imageshack.com

If you upload your image to the site linked below it will be viewable on bitcointalk.

Thanks for the reply

I'm not sure how to get the software mentioned to work. I downloaded it any extracted all the files but don't see any .exe files to use

You need java installed on your computer before the transaction fee booster will work.

You can download a java installer at this link.

https://java.com/en/download/

After you install it you get the transaction fee booster working by double clicking the FeeBooster.jar file, not an .exe file.

The file highlighted below starts the transaction fee booster working.
