The CX430 is only rated to 28A on its 12V rail and is group regulated so the 12V rail voltage will drop quite a bit (and the 5V rail voltage will go way high) if you don't load the 5V rail as well. It's a bad choice.
Look at test CL2.

i suggest you to use : Corsair CP-9020015 750W.
i think this is quite enough for a miner.
from what i read in forums and reviews you need 32A on 12V rail.

I'll then get Corsair Builder Series CXM 500W
it has 38A on the 12V line.

32A is really pushing it - you could easily have high error rates and absolutely no overclocking ability (and isnt $10 more for a bigger PSU worth an extra 10-20GH/s?)

im from Poland and my ranking for international outside EU packages would be
1. Fedex
2. DHL
3. UPS
...
1000. EMS (its always like 7-14 days customs delay)

I would vote the same for canada, maybe a little better for EMS though

It is worth reminding people here that most homes/apartments often have 15A on the majority of circuits. This means you can only get 3 antminers (overclocked) on a single circuit, 4 if they are not overclocked and the circuit isnt shared with other large power draws (stereo, TV, fridge, toaster, etc).

I blew almost every breaker in my buddies apartment running 4 ants + anything else, and that was at stock clocks.

exactly. I'm lucky enough that I have 2 circuits with outlets beside eachother and virtually no other load but ASICs (one circuit is for the A/C in summer and the other is a desklamp)

I'm trying to see if an electrician can rewire an unused 30A, 230V appliance socket to provide 2 seperate 115V lines for future grow until I arrange a permenant location with more power (see my sig - i need other miners or equipment investors to make it feasible)

that wont hold many monarchs. maybe 3 will fit in there if you look at the hideous excuse for watercooling that they are showing off, which doesnt even include the radiator or pump for size
2845  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: BITMAIN Antminer support and OverClocking thread on: January 21, 2014, 04:16:15 PM
Good Afternoon,

I'm in now looking at over clocking my S1.  Only problem is, I'm not completely familiar with the process.  I do have extra fans for my miner, so I can keep the heat down.  One question I have, in the op, the build dates of the machines, does that matter?  I ask because I got my machine much later.  I know you have to SSH your way into the miner, what are the proper command props?  Is it a cut and paste, or more?  Thanks for your assistance in advance.

the instructions are available, but basically:
-SSH in using port 22, u/p is root/root
- 'vi /etc/config/asic-freq' enters the editor for the file
- 'i' key enters edit mode - go ahead and make the changes
-'ESC' returns to view mode
- ':wq!' writes the file and quits the editor
-reboot

I find that 400MHz gives around 201-203GH and 387.5MHz gives about 196-198GH
2846  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Setup & Troubleshoot] Bitmain AntMiner S1 180GH/S miner on: January 21, 2014, 04:12:39 PM
Im curious, has anyone gotten any version of the firmware to NOT use 100% CPU ... cgminer uses 100% CPU when mining. Even my avy b2 didnt have this problem..

does it still mine bitcoins at the correct speed? if so, I wouldn't worry about it too much. I think its just an issue that comes with selecting a cheap logic/networking chip
2847  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Antminer S1 open for sale again] The last round before the Chinese New Year on: January 21, 2014, 04:11:17 PM

Folks, elasticband does not talk about unit delivery and delay. Look few pages back about packet of 500 u1 unit were stuck at china customs office and ups reqired vat number.

I am talking about lack of communication resulting it delays, the whole VAT situation could have been dealt with if tracking was handed out in a timely fashion.  Miss-communications and constantly getting told it was being dealt by one person then when i speak to another i get a totally different story.

I have been told UPS have contacted me and i did not tell them to release the package and this is why it is still on hold. At no point until yesterday have i spoke to UPS or have they tried to contact me as i was told it was getting dealt with on the china side.

When i spoke to UPS today they say the complete opposite of what Bitmain tells me, they say it is the senders obligation to have the package returned. I can only reject the package upon the receiving and as i have not received i cannot reject, even the racking has updated twice saying they have contacted the sender. Nothing about receiver.

UPS tracking has updated to "Clearance in Progress" so hopefully.

UPS can be a bitch and a half. They routinely fail to deliver things to my building (delivery attempts are marked as late as 9:45pm) and i have NEVER gotten any calls from the front lobby buzzer or seen 'delivery notice' cards left anywhere to show they even tried.

On the last package i called UPS the day it shipped and asked they put it immediately for pickup at the distrobution and was told I cant request that until after a first attempt, but that the shipper could. I asked Bitmain and was told they can't do that once its shipped. So of course, UPS put my package on a truck for delivery, then suddenly changed their minds and marked it for pickup and never even bothered to attempt the delivery despite it already on the truck.

I'm sure the communication could be better, but UPS has some serious communications issues between their call centers and distribution/shipping facilities

The price has doubled in the last two weeks. If that is people just waiting for the 20th, then they are dumb schmucks. They should have just bought on the 10th and saved themselves 50%

The best time to plant a tree is 50 years ago. The second best time is today.

not if the tree will be cut down for a parking lot in the next 2 years.

AFAIC, asicminer has not given nay info or suggestions about the next gen and unless they do something soon they will be the netscape of bitcoin mining.

My stats are all at 0? But my shares are being accepted in BFGminer. Is everything going to be allright?

Whatever happens, it will be alright. The sun will rise tomorrow Wink

sadly, my 128/256 stats seemed out of line with expectations and without more data to indicate my machines are running 100% correctly i had to switch pools.

hopefully everything is back up properly today, I intend to add a bit of donation once i can track my 3 and 10-hour stats again

2851  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Setup & Troubleshoot] Bitmain AntMiner S1 180GH/S miner on: January 21, 2014, 03:32:49 PM
I have added a second fan for pull the hot air from the machine. I use a fan with PWM, the speed is slow and cannot show the RPM in the web management page. Then I use a connector directly connect the fan to molex, the fan comes faster...

2 question:

even use a PWM fan, still cannot show the RPM?

the PWM function cannot work for second fan??

the second fan appears to be controlled by PWM in mirror to the primary fan (w/ regards to voltage, not RPM) and you wont see its speed in the stats.

All my 3 Antminers (december batch with PCI-E connectors Bitmaintech V1.2 2013/12/4) claim that network cable is unplugged. I tried to reset them, used different IP conf. connected to router.
Does it need crossed over cable?
Network seems to try to identify itself after power on but then goes back to network cable unplugged. Cables checked with cable tester.
I see R24 PWR red diode blinking and C31 green diode blinking

are the on the right ip subnet? (if your router is 192.168.0.1, they should be 192.168.0.XXX where XXX>99)
make sure all 3 dont have the same IP address.
also, if you are using 'DHCP client' for WAN, switch it to 'static address' and MAKE SURE YOU USE DNS SERVER 8.8.8.8

no shipping info/confirmation yet, crossed fingers that i'll have it soon, otherwise they'll be shipping on the 22nd (china-time) hopefully
2854  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ASIC Design on: January 21, 2014, 01:13:02 PM
You need software like Cadence Encounter or Mentor Graphics Pixis.  There's some open source software like Electric if you want to mess around with physical design layout, but actually taping out a physical chip using it would be rather difficult, since it doesn't come with any design rules you would use for high end process nodes.

The real stuff comes with design rules for TSMC/GlobalFoundaries/etc - but is very expensive.

Thanks. Any idea what the price is for the "Design Rules"?

a few million dollars' investment from design to tapeout

Got mine S1 last night and plugged it in straight away. Is it normal for it to be that loud? Also when it starts, the fan seems to be making some clicking noises, they sort of disappear over time as you can hear them anymore over the noise of the fan spinning, is this expected behavior?

are you sure the clicking noise isn't from the the board itself? when it doesn't have internet connection, clicking noise will appear.

100% sure, I had that "no internet connection noise" couple of times and its different. When I start mining, the fan tries to spin itself but somehow fails to do so and only after a minute or so starts to properly spin. Do you reckon the fan might be somehow broken, or is it the power supply to the fan thats causing it?

the other possibility is that the fan is just BARELY nicking the tips of the hex screws holding the frame to the heatsinks. when i swapped out the fan for another on my first-model unit i had to add a few thin spacer washers so that the fan could spin up without either getting stuck or making a loud terrible clicking noise 30 times per second.

presumably when the fan's up to speed it might push itself a millimeter or two back from the airflow forces and stop making contact. If this looks like your issue either check all the tensions of the screws holding the fan or buy a few cheap nylon washers and re-install the fan using one or two per screw

2858  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: [GUIDE] BitFury Miner Support/Tuning on: January 21, 2014, 03:22:10 AM
I have gone almost a month at 400+gh and now recently my reported speeds are more like 200-300 at the pool.  Reported rates on the unit itself are in the 300-350 range but they used to be almost 500.  I have applied heatsinks to the backs of the chips and voltage regulater area and this is a climate controlled room with cool air blowing over the cards.  This is the new version hardware as well.  I regularly have cards going to zero, I manually tune them as far as 49 and they work at low rates and another card goes to zero, always at least one card down, sometimes as many as three.  I am using a 1200w power supply as well so it's hard to believe it's because they aren't getting juice.

Any thoughts?

bitfury changed the exact chip voltage a few times between batches. most batches have some extra headroom to pencil mod the voltages higher but there are a few batches that almost benefit from the opposite.

take a multimeter and check the voltage beween the top contact on the inductor and a GND terminal on the m-board. 0.8-0.88V is the ideal range if you have reasonable amount of heatsinks AND airflow. If its <0.8V, do a pencil mod. if its >0.88V, improve the cooling. add a small heatsink to the thermal vias of the regulator on the backside of the board. this chip does a lot of work and needs just as much cooling as the ASICs
