At this rate, Monero will hit $50 sometime next year. What do you think... good for long term holding? Don't want people dumping the coins later.

IMHO... XMR has the strongest potential to be the next Bitcoin because of the "anonymity" features that are far more advanced than Bitcoin.... unlike ETH... this coin has become more complicated....

I still don't get what all the hype is regarding Monero (XMR). It's known to be run by botnets which is why it's never very profitable to mine. Too many infected computers mining using "free to them" electricity. Due to this reason I have felt that the recent pump and dumps are by the same shady ass black hat devs infecting the computers and profiting. Also makes sense why the dark net is now supporting it (same shady ass people or people of similar mindset). It also explains why they have a very cult-like following of strongest supporters.

I'm not going to support that when there are so many other better crypto projects going on right now. I'll dump the little I have when it's high.

Doesn't Dash also have anonymity features as well?

My experience using the Monero wallet has also been shit and I've lost several XMR on transactions that apparently didn't go through using Cryptsy's wallet.

These are all good points  and while I now mine  XMR ETH & BTC  I am not sure on my hold strategy for the three coins.

I am mining the  3 and holding btc at the moment.  Which means I am converting XMR and ETH to BTC.

 This may change soon.

My set of four came in.  All parts are there.  I have not installed them but I will do so on monday.

I have  4 dps 2500 psus --- I have  some 2k boards I will install kits here.

I have  2 dps 2000 psus  this is with a 4k board I will install 1 kit here

I have  1 dps 1600  psu ---------- this is with a 2k board but I will attach the dead psu and put a kit in here.
I have  1 dps  2000 psu dead

These plates are sturdy  they will be strong.

I will also use a bit of this

28564  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: My warranty adventure with my s-9. on: September 09, 2016, 01:11:29 PM

Bitmainwarranty  does say they will now take in boards.
After my experience I will buy from him.
As collecting on the warranty via China is hard to do.

I have my first replacement board due today it is on the truck due for delivery.

This was covered via warranty ,but the boards was only 10 hours old never over clocked.

The older board is not yet fixed and I may pay for repairs on it. I have yet to  be contacted on the damage details on the board.

It is not so difficult sending them to China

I opened    Repair Ticket  2016-08-27 08:13:47
Shipped with EMS  27.08.2016 12:08  [ 2 hashboards , shipping costs about 85 euro]
Delivery  China, Hong Kong  01.09.2016 11:44

Repair Collect Send    05.09.2016    9:57
RepairOrder Payed Send  07.09.2016  4:40
RepairOrder Send Send 07.09.2016  12:07

This means that they are now shipped with UPS to my place
Shenzhen, China    07/09/2016    16:23    Collection Scan

EDIT.

I got my hashboards  back today.

So 15 days - China versus 17 days - Colorado.

This time the winner was China.
I got  even back today the replacements for this blade , which they refused to repair.

But today I have still one broken 550M blade from last ordered miner  ,  no visual injury

and one 650M blade, that works with 11 x "X" at freq 650 but works fine at freq 550M
Unfortunately, this 650M blade  is almost  out of  the warranty.   Shipped 2016-06-21

I do not even know ,  sent it for repairs  or not.

Tough call  but  if it shipped on the 21st you have 10 days to decide.

if you wait 6 days and another board goes on you  you can ship the two back to China and save on shipping.

So I would wait for 6 days then decide. Undecided

My second board is on its way back to  me.
I was able to do it all with in the USA but they did die a week apart  so two sets of shipping.

18 + 25 = 43
18 + 25 = 43 a total of 86 in usd.

If I had shipped to China  I would have spent 110 + 110 = 220  or 140 + 140 = 280  One is UPS price other is Fedex.

so China is  220 to 280 due to two shippings vs  USA  86 with 2 shippings.  That is a big difference in shipping cost.

I have yet to mount the first replacement board.  I plan to do both at the same time which should be monday.

2 weeks, 2 dead chips on my brand new s9
another s9 has a dead board

funny how they sell this crap gear for 1600$ and people buy them

Money is a funny drug;)

So true Grin

My second dead  board is on its way to me.  I will install both dead boards at the same time.

Have to thank Yoshi of bitmainwarranty for the replacement service.

my verdict on the gear is it is easier to break then any other chip.  So plan for it.  Also add 10% to the price you pay since the gear breaks so much easier then any of there older gear.

Frankly they should charge more for the gear and give a better warranty.

I just finished it my self. Today.  I will also, adjust two cabinet doors the next two days. So I think the kitchen will be fully finished by Monday. The 12th of sept which is about 87 days.

Congrats with new kitchen!

Yeah it did come out really nice.

Phil ... it will be nice if you could show us the final masterpiece.

It may give us inspiration to do some house improvement project. Cheesy

Yeah I suppose I could do some photos on Friday .

I won't do four card case builds just not enough room.

I damaged one four card mobo trying to do it.

If there was a good case with room I would build on again.
The reason for case builds are many of us can run gear in an It center and they want the gear in a case.

So far my best builds have been case free riser free on the biostar z170 mobo.
28569  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: USD $20k to start mining on: September 08, 2016, 11:34:12 PM
at 9 us cents per kwatt  you should not mine only BTC with asic gear.

You should consider mining ETH coin and XMR coin with pc's and gpu's

I would look for only 1 S-9 as a starter
I would build 1 pc with some gpu's

A three card build  is about

2 x 200 = 400 for gpu's
1 x 210 = 210

total  of 610

so 880 plus a psu  gives you 66 to 70 mh to mine eth coin----- power cost  450 watts maybe 480 watts

while 1500 plus a psu gives you 13th to mine btc ----- power cost 1300 watts

so for 2400 US dollars plus power supplies   you get two good rigs and you can compare them by running the two of them.

you may be like me  after testing I now have 5 S-9's  and 22 gpus in 8 pc's

net cost say 15k

I can add a little bit to the list.

XMR is power efficient for the earnings to gpu watts (old gpus are now more profitable)

XMR algo is very inefficient for gpu hash rates ( 700 h/s vs ethash 29 mh/s for fast gpu)

XMR has a low coin supply, further adoption and need for privacy could cause a moon

I think we have for a while now been experiencing the hostile takeover of corporate mining outfits, that is Chinese miners and other low electric rate areas deploying massive gpu farms.  We are in a downwards trend of diminishing profits and will continue to see this until that margin comes to the point that those outfit are just barely profitable.  So unless new money..lots of new money can come into the market we will be slowly squeezed out.  It's then time to decide what to do, sell the gpus or keep a rig around for the next boom.

Speaking of booms.  If there are some coins with large market caps and lots of farms operating (at low margins), then if a boom happens those farms will just move hash around and there will not be much profit.  We need a mining collapse to wipe out the farms, for them to sell everything and reset the total global gpus to a smallish amount.  Then if a boom happens you can mine at high profit until the farms start building up again and repeat the process.

you're right.... overall temps have come down and GPUs dont heat up as much, as I can see fans turning not as hard.

hope i can see a lower power bill next month.

as for goliath vs home miners...... until we have GHs... its not realistic to mine with a few rigs, unless if we have a private pool where all the home miners in world team up to mine as one!

However its small money (a few hundreds here and there) - its still good spending income. However dont make this your day job.

one of my business partner, setup a 3.3 GHs ETH farm 25 x rigs, he started early, got lucky with ETH boom in end 2015 before the crowd came in - now he has ROI his investment - and used the same rigs to run Claymore XMR from Claymore ETH.... everything from this end onwards is profit (his power is cheap).... its all about timing and I can see that in XMR.

Yeah I will mine xmr for a month or more holding the coins

I will mine eth and sell to,btc "

Maybe 20 gpus on eth and 8 gpus on xmr.

I have too much shit going on real world .i spent a lot of money getting a new kitchen done.

They ran over time wise I fired them at day 69.

I thought it was fully done.  But I discover some not to code wiring.

I just finished it my self. Today.  I will also, adjust two cabinet doors the next two days. So I think the kitchen will be fully finished by Monday. The 12th of sept which is about 87 days.
28572  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: why harware mining is not profitable at the present time ?? on: September 08, 2016, 12:23:29 PM
i want ask everyone suggestion that why hardware mining is not profitable Huh
since the same hardware is using by the miner same electricity is provided then why profit is less in comparison of the earliar .

Well  monopoly seller Bitmaintech  simply sells gear at the  highest price the market will bear.

Thus miners mostly buy very costly gear if they buy new.

but I would like to ask kano and or ck  to pm me in the future  if there is a problem with something I am doing on the site.  I in turn will do the same with them.
You weren't doing anything wrong. I had zero intention of getting involved and making a judgement call on fubly's work. However, you asked me to sign off on it which is when I spoke up about my concerns. I still think if you're happy with the product he generates then it makes no difference what I think, but if you want me to bless it, I cannot do that for the reasons I've outlined. Getting Kano to sign off on his work is likely 100x harder. The language barrier is not helping the discussion either, where fubly is asking  fellow German to explain why he might be accused of dishonouring the license requirements of the GPL when Kano's concern there is fubly's previous project, and Kano would refuse to "forgive and forget" unless fubly goes back and releases all the hidden code and retracts claims of improved performance.

Yes which is why I decided to not do  escrow services.  The older  project is still in  active violation status. That would not be the same as: forgive and forget since it is active.
It is what I failed to understand about the issue.  I did not realize it was active.  Like I mention understanding code and code GPL rules is not my area of expertise. Once informed the prior problem was current and active I stopped my escrow service and refunded all involved.

28578  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What's a good cheap, used GPU for beginner mining? on: September 07, 2016, 03:11:47 PM
I'm new to serious mining (I've tinkered with GPU mining on my GTX 1060 just for fun but I know it's not profitable) and I'm considering building a cheap rig with used GPUs. I have absolutely no clue what I should buy; should I buy a more expensive recent GPU or an older GPU that is really cheap, or somewhere in between? Are there specific models you look for when building your used rigs? What should I buy as a newb to serious mining?

I'm interested in mining ethereum or vertcoin since I've read they are profitable on GPUs. I don't want to spend too much on this but the rig needs to pay for itself within a year. Electricity here is about 10c per kwh (USD)

Another thing I'm concerned with is heat. It seems to be one of the factors that isn't mentioned too much. If the rig is putting out a ton of heat, it will raise the electricity usage from the AC. Where do you put your rigs to avoid this?

Thanks

I asked for this to be sent to alt coins.

I think your gtx 1060  may be good enough to mine ETH

28579  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Avalon 7 on: September 07, 2016, 02:50:41 PM
If they want people to buy it they need to at least match or come close to ETH probability with respect to electricity for those with 7970/280x technology GPUs.

Needs to be 1000Watts->100MH/s ETH->$7/day and needs 4-6 months ROI period like GPUs.

However this will probably cost 50% more than an S9.

Well looks like the 7th was a false source.

here is the deal  it needs to be quiet gear .

it needs to have lower watts per gh  0.08 would be good  a clear improvement over any other gear.

it needs to be 600 to 800 watt max

a 640 watt  8th miner  would be really good.  they could charge 1500 and it would sell---- but  at 1500 I need a better warranty then bitmaintech  say six months.

I will say this the avalon 6 had good support for dead gear issues if you were in the USA Yang from blockC was very good on dead gear issues.

I hope to work with him again if the avalon 7 lists soon. for sales.
