Any info on coin distribution? Will the genesis block be divided between all those who are interested? I'm interested in participating in a beta test.

I'm just wondering if the ticker symbol of the coin should be tweaked a bit. I saw this mentioned in another thread... I think the name of the currency might sound better if it was "nemo" coin.

Regarding the forging algorithm. Are we still exploring options to improve this over NXT? I am convinced that the design of the forging algorithm is one of the major things that may convice people to invest in NEM! For this I believe the goal of the forging concept should be: 1. To attract as many people as possible to invest in NEM (preferrably even small amounts) 2. To make NEM more than just an investment What do I mean by that: Well I guess we can all agree that the forging algorithm of NXT does not attract the regular joes to the game. I believe this is exactly what we should aim for with NEM because there are alot of regular joes  This would also make it a more stable currency compared to when the majority of users are investors that only aim to make money with it. Once the currency has proved to be stable you will establish trust. I believe a lack of thrust is the major argument merchants still have against cryptocurrencies. (and obviously the legal grey area debate but this can not be countered by the design of NEM  ) If we could make a concept that will attracht merchants (obviously this is long term thinking), I suppose this will benifit NEM hugely! Please let's debate on this and share some thoughts. As long as the transparent forging isn't affected I think we can think about doing things differently. I always thought about taking the "age" of coins into account like I think peercoin does. |

Go with a wallet.dat setup for normal users. Power users can click on the brain icon and enter in their own high-strength passphrase after being warned of the importance of a truly high-powered passphrase.
This sounds pretty similar to what Ripple does but better. When you create a Ripple wallet you can choose the store it at Payward (brain) or only in your local browser (wallet.dat). What makes this worse than a real wallet.dat i.e. a local file is that as soon as you clear the browsers cache your wallet is gone  My ideal wallet would be both a file and a brainwallet but the brain functionality should be something i can turn on and off as needed. Maybe this makes it more clear: If I look at NXT right now there is only a brainwallet and I can't store it locally. If I wan't to forge I need to have my node running all the time. What If I could store my wallet locally but it would also be accessible from other clients, as long as my node is running ? That way you would have an offline wallet, but you could make it accessible remotly if you need it to by runing your own node. The client that I wan't to access my wallet from would then have to have my "home node" in his peers but that shouldn't be too much of a problem. |

Is it possible to introduce a username + password option when creating/logging in an account aswell as a brute-force protection in order to make this crypto safer then the alternatives?

Id like jaguar to at minimum to consider using a "username" and "password" field such that the password is salted with the username for key streching. It will still require a very complex password though. And it would be possible for multiple usernames to be in use. LOL But consider this, if NEM were to go live with a wallet.dat type of setup, it would make it VERY attractive. And if it were to get a wallet.dat type of setup before NXT did, then things would REALLY get interesting. I envision the following upon opening the client: User is presented with 2 options when clicking unlock, where the default is to utilize a wallet.dat setup and the user can open locally stored accounts or create a new one. There is an another symbol on this unlock page that is an icon representing a brain, where the user can click it to go the brainwallet route if so desired. Obviously this option would need to come with all appropriate disclaimers What do you guys think? Im not the S/W dev, just the network dev but I think that would be ideal. It sounds pretty cool. The most awesome think would be being able to swtich between brain and wallet.dat. Example: I'm going to work and in case I want to make a payment or alike in NEM I'd like to be able to access my wallet from any client so I put my wallet into the "brain". Now I'm home again and I really don't want anyone to steal my NEM so I'll switch to a local wallet.dat file again and remove it from the "brain". That would be so rad ! If we could introduce something like that people would throw their money at NEM like crazy It may blow up the blockchain though. Maybe we don't have to hold it in a blockchain but make it possible to put it on a user hosted node. Like if I want to access my wallet from another client I would have to have my node running on the machine that holds my wallet.dat. That sounds doable. |

thank you but i only buy btc on bitcoin.de and transfer it to bter and vircurex i do not have any client i invest in altcoins and send if i want withdrawal to bitcoin.de to become fiat i do not have any wallet.
I think you can just withdraw bitcoins to the NEM funding adress. Be carefull with fees though. |

I personally brought 3 of my friends (total newbies) into NEM yesterday, today morning one of those people called me and said, that he also brought in his brother, but his brother is asking If his roommate can also get in ... so maybe situation around new accounts is not so tragic. I think we're going to reach the 3k accounts really soon especially if and when the ads on reddit go online. I hope the time between reaching account limit and actual release of NEM won't be too long. I think that could cost us some tracktion. |

Some updates on Reddit direct advertising. As it turns out Reddit advertising demand greatly exceeds the supply of advertising slots in the Bitcoin sub-reddit.
I managed to book 1 day slot from 2/28 to 3/1 on the Bitcoin sub-reddit; fully paid for and ready to go.
The title is "A new kind of cryptocurrency. The first egalitarian coin. Join NEM to change the world " with the link go directly to our front page.
Litecoin sub-reddit is also fully booked even further out. So I turned to the Dogecoin sub-reddit. This ad would run from 2/5 to 2/7 for two days. The title is "Envy no more. The first egalitarian coin. Join the movement. NEM registration is open" with the link go directly to our front page.
These are trial runs and funded by my personal budget so we will have to see how effective they are. I will stop the "share the word to get a stake" after page 20 until 2 day of Doge sub-reddit advertising is over. We don't even know if the fundraising is still open on 2/28 when we have the Bitcoin subreddit advertising but at that point I expect that we would have much more details about NEM development plan and a good front site for NEM.
All of these ad are subject to approval by Reddit so nothing is certain yet.

I see, people angry about NEM distribution are only people very active in NXT community. Persumably NXT stakeholders or people who bought in early, so I guess you would like to share your accumulated NXT with us, seeing how strongly is sentiment for egalitarian principles rooted in you.  Not sure about exact time of PM, I work 13 hours a day and everyone is from different timezone, seems to me a bit complicated. Totally...hadn't even thought of the timezones. Even if you find enough people...It's just a stupid idea...sorry. |

I hate the idea of only having a minimal time of replying to the pm. Some of us have jobs ffs.
I can't look here or at my emals every few minutes...that's insane. It's not a viable method of verifiying accounts.
If something like this is really being done I will make it my lifes mission to comment negatively everywhere on the distrubution of NEM and I will make sure that it is known that many stakeholders appear to be envy as hell.
Fortunately the people that actually call the shots on the distribution seem to be sane.
However if most of the stakeholders are as envy as many people here seem to be NEM is going to go nowhere. We need stakeholders that are willing to giveaway part of their NEMs for bounties and such.

I personally would like to have the requirements rather strict. Providing telefone numbers or ID scans.
However it is handeled. The stricter the better.

this is just crazy, so we people sending real money will be giving out ID scans to completely anonymous people promising non existing NEM. LOL ID scans have been and are often used for scams, like taking loans on other peoples names. I would never send my ID, thats why Im not on MtGox. Only precious thing about crypto is anonymity... Suspicion is raised the moment an idea like the one mentioned is attacked so ferociously instead of working it out and thinking about a way to make it work without posting the information all over the internet. There are developers. Those are the guys that will distribute the coins once time comes. Sending ID Data to them, contacting them via skype. There are a lot of options. NXTs biggest point of criticism is, that the distribution was so very bad. Handing out the coins without further inspection will just lead to the same results again. Someone will have a lot more than others. You could also go for only seeing accounts of a certain age and activity as legit. But I'm sure in that case there won't be many people in here left. Yes, cryptos are about anonymity. They are also the wild scamming west. Cryptos are not about anonymity. Most coins out there are NOT anonymous. This is a myth that seems to be immortal. However someone being able to trace my payments back to my real name and someone wanting my ID are 2 very different things. I don't think sockpupets are a very big problem and therefore any counter meassure that requires a lot of time is a waste of said time. If we put that time into promotion and such we'd do a lot better. |

I am one of those alleged sockaccounts. I registered specifically for getting into NEM. So what ? I never saw the need to register to this forum before. I can get trolled and read bs anywhere. NEM gave me the incentive to register so I did. Now you wan't to take away my stake because I haven't registered earlier ? You sir should have no stake because clearly you are in the Very Envy Movement. Also this forum is freaking terrible....I knew why i didn't register earlier . I get that stupid 360 seconds warning all the time, even if I haven't postet in days. Same for the search only it's 90 seconds there. I think the 360 seconds is drastically cut down once you post a certain number of times or reach a certain activity level. That's comforting to hear |

Are you attempting to deliver a coin that really has a future though? or is this just pump and dump? I love the equal shares tho, so I'm hoping it isn't just pump and dump.
Pump and dump is imho not likely here because everyone has the same amount to start with. With a distribution like NEMs it's hard to tell how each stakeholder will act. Some may only be ought to make some quick dough. I believe that the majority is going to hold on to their NEMs until it's worth a decent amount and then dump it slowly. Hopefully a decent number of stakeholders will actually realize that this project does have a shot at becoming one of the top crypto currencies and will use their NEMs for giveaways bounties and promoting the coin because that is how NEM is going to become big and this is actually also how the real big money could be made. |

It doesn't matter if the code that has been officially released to the public is flawed incomplete or whatever. NXT uses non obfuscated Java which means that anyone can look at the most recent clients code by simply decompiling the jar. None of the clones are using the "open source code". If they are they are they are doing it wrong Of course NXT will make quite a "jump" with 0.6.0 because the code has been refactored which is why they are holding it back for as long as possible - so the clones can't profit from that refactor. We placed a copy of the latest decompiled NXT code in our repository https://github.com/NxtEM/nem. At the moment, we are still working out a development plan and deciding how ambitious we want NXT to be. Be patient and stay tuned . Do you mean how ambitious you wan't NEM to be ? I think if NEM want's to have a place it needs to improve things over NXT. I don't think this whole silver for NXT thing is going to work out if it's really a pure clone even if the source is different. Everytune i see a new bitcoin clone or a clone of any other coin that improves nothing I'm thinking "why the hell would anyone want this ?". |
