2861  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Obama on ISIS: 'We Don't Have a Strategy Yet' on: September 04, 2014, 11:18:15 AM
Seems the mood is changing in Washington:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/rise-of-islamic-state-tests-gop-anti-interventionists/2014/09/03/efbe6b86-3382-11e4-9e92-0899b306bbea_story.html

I believe Obama will have a strategy soon, it just takes time to weigh all the options. How much American critics if he send troops? How much bad press all over the Middle East? How will moderate muslims will react, in America and in Europe?
2862  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why Bitcoin Will Fail. on: September 03, 2014, 09:18:08 PM
I find it boring that every week, there's a new guy starting a topic to explain that BTC is doomed, but I see that BTC is still standing.
I bet BTC will still exist next week!
2863  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Scottish Independence May Be Coming Soon on: September 03, 2014, 09:14:27 PM
There will be a political solution, but the choice between the pound or the euro is a tough one. Who to trust, Westminster or Brussels (actually, Frankfurt)?

there's probably a few folk in Ireland and Greece that could give you an opinion on that  Roll Eyes

It's not that easy, because we should expect Brussels to be quite neutral towards Scotland. It would be just another country joining the European Union. On the other hand, history has taught us that the Brits haven't always been nice with Scots. Westminster may try to do something nasty just to get Scotland in trouble. Like they say in the army, you hope for the best but you get ready for the worst.
2864  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Scottish Independence May Be Coming Soon on: September 03, 2014, 10:48:45 AM

Nobody should worry about that. There will be a political solution, but the choice between the pound or the euro is a tough one. Who to trust, Westminster or Brussels (actually, Frankfurt)?
2865  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Obama on ISIS: 'We Don't Have a Strategy Yet' on: September 03, 2014, 10:42:27 AM
Of course, he doesn't have a strategy, but the real situation is much worse than that. The question to ask is who has a strategy?
I don't think a single head of state has one, but the American president is the closest to have one, since he decided in favor of air raids, but against sending troops. That's a start.

Besides the US, I'm waiting for Turkey to have a clear strategy, as it will be the first to suffer if there's a large islamic caliphate next to its border.
What about Egypt?
2866  Other / Politics & Society / Re: SPAIN ORDERS CUSTODY FOR PARENTS OF ILL UK BOY on: September 02, 2014, 09:58:48 PM
Finally, a bit of relief!

http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-29040124

People realizing that this isn't the police job to catch parents trying to offer the best available treatment for their kid.
We shall not despair of the UK!
2867  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Your opinion on GMO's & Stem Cell research. on: September 02, 2014, 09:54:43 PM
There are two different things here. I'm all in favor of research, but massive use of GMO is dangerous to me. It's spreading all over nature stuff which wasn't designed by it, so we don't know how it's going to react.
2868  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is US Citizenship is a Curse or a Blessing? on: September 02, 2014, 09:51:26 PM
Purchasing power is great in the US. Sales tax is lower than most other countries' VAT or equivalent. The ease to travel is also great. An American passport opens all doors. Then, the US may be the best place in the world to start a business. Entrepreneurs are praised everywhere, and if you have a good idea, you'll find investors.

The bad part is taxation on your worldwide income, and  many things done by the FBI, the CIA and the NSA are really dirty ones.
Property tax is horrible in some states. Worse than in Europe.
2869  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Scottish Independence May Be Coming Soon on: September 02, 2014, 10:26:48 AM
I'm all in favor of an independent Scotland (independent Ireland, too), but I'm no Scot no my voice doesn't count. It will make Germany even stronger within Europe, but I'm not afraid of that, it has always been like this.
2870  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Burger King Dares Obama To Stop It From Fleeing to Canada on: September 01, 2014, 10:25:42 PM
I have yet to understand why BK is moving to Canada. They could move to an even more exotic country, and forget everything about corporate tax. The US? BK is a world-wide business. I've seen their restaurants in many countries. I wonder how much of their income comes from the US. If it's less than half, they have no obligation at all towards that country.
2871  Other / Politics & Society / Re: SPAIN ORDERS CUSTODY FOR PARENTS OF ILL UK BOY on: September 01, 2014, 10:18:20 PM
I guess we've reached the breaking point. Parents do not choose anymore what's good or bad for their children, it's the country which tells them how to care for their children, and if parents refuse to obey, they're being sent to jail.

This is fascism, in the UK now. Probably, we shall look down on British citizens from now on. They are not real humans, but puppets in the hands of the mighty government.
2872  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin shows staying power on: September 01, 2014, 10:03:26 AM
Well, I never had any doubt about that. Value may go up and down, but the blockchain is a truly remarkable invention. It just needs a few computers connected between each other, and it will last forever.
2873  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Undocumented immigrants are civil, NOT CRIMINAL matters on: August 31, 2014, 10:29:13 PM
If you have ever driven your car then you have contributed to wear and tear on the roads but have not paid your fair share in taxes to cover these costs. If you have children then they are using the school system of which you are not paying for via taxes.

Gas is $8 a gallon where I am now! I believe that's much enough money to pay for my wear and tear of the roads. When it comes to that, I'm driving an old car and I would like to buy a new one. Happily, I can afford to buy one. I tried that last month. Buying a car means paying quite a lot in tax, and there's the cost to register it also, which is expensive too, but those a$$holes at the registration office, they told me that I couldn't register a car because I didn't have the rights documents... So I moved to another country, and I hope that next month I'll be in a country where there will let me register a car. This country will not get my money, too bad!

Regarding public schools, the teachers are so bad, sending kids there is like giving them a licence to fail their life.
2874  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Cost To Renounce US Citizenship Goes up 420+% on: August 31, 2014, 10:09:42 PM
I'm not surprised. The American government must have seen that there are more and people fleeing the country, so that's an opportunity to make money.

Regarding corporations, it's another subject, but there are much more reasons for a corporation to leave than there are for an individual. Personal income tax is still reasonable in most US states. It's property tax and corporation tax which are way too high.
2875  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will the Dominica Bitcoin Drop be a Success? on: August 31, 2014, 10:33:11 AM
This will fail because it's most likely the amount given will be ridiculously small. They don't have any BTC to begin with! They're waiting for people to give them the BTC which they will later redistribute.
2876  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Undocumented immigrants are civil, NOT CRIMINAL matters on: August 30, 2014, 02:57:40 PM
I've been undocumented most of my life, nobody has ever told me I was a criminal.
I'm changing country quite often, and I guess it helps when I show my passport with lots of stamps. And if I'm working in countries where I don't have any right to work, I make it difficult to prove I'm working or that I'm earning money.
If you are working in a country where you do not have the right to work then you are not only breaking the law but are also robbing the rest of the hard working people of the country blind. You are creating more supply of a labor force then what there should be. You are not paying the same taxes that other hard working citizens in the country are.

This is correct, but I do not have the same rights. And I'm not costing anything to the taxpayers, as I don't have any right to health insurance nor a pension. All that while I do pay VAT or sales tax with anything I buy. I travel a lot, and I see that countries which offer the most to their citizens have the largest budget deficits. They're all failing, and their failure makes me happy. Anyway, I'm currently staying in a little country where there's no income tax. I don't have the right to work nor a residency permit, but I have no doubt I'm useful to that country, giving more than I receive. This is what really matters.

Let's forget the citizenship issues, and focus on this giving/receiving question. I suggest anyone receiving more than he gives be sent to forced labour. I'll remain free.
You are likely paying less in income taxes then what you should be paying. You probably aren't paying anything in income taxes. You are also consuming public resources (like local government services) that is provided to the people by the government.

I'm not using any local government service. Not at all.
A month ago, I was in a city where there was some fireworks, and I've watched. That's about it. Oh, well, I remember I've used a public bathroom a while ago. That's it, nothing else.
2877  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Europe Needs to Embrace Islam - The New York Times on: August 30, 2014, 02:49:28 PM
Someone to tell this woman that if European countries were to fully accept islam, she wouldn't be able to leave her home without wearing a veil. She believes muslims can accept democracy and an open society with competing religions, but that's a distant dream. It's already happening in France and Belgium, brothers are telling their sisters that they can't go out without a veil, and sometimes that they shouldn't go out at all.

I guess she wants the death of democracy and an end to all women's rights. Hey, why only in Europe? It could come in the US, too.
2878  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Your dream political system on: August 29, 2014, 05:22:43 PM
but the problem is how to fix a limit on what the government of a liberal republic can do
Principle of separation of powers to independent legislative, executive and legislative branches is purposed to do that.

No, it's not what I meant. If we go back to the early days of liberalism, which Benjamin Constant explained truly well, the government has only two purposes. To protect the citizens from foreign invaders, and to police the streets. Nowadays, millions of people see it as normal that government organizes healthcare, regulates the work place and so on. That's the issue: how to prevent liberal republic from becoming socialist nightmares.
2879  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Which is best project to earn bitcoins? on: August 29, 2014, 05:10:32 PM
Topic: Which is best project to earn bitcoins?

I don't want to disappoint you, but the best thing to do is to get a normal high paying job and ask to be paid in BTC.
That's the biggest problem with BTC. Many people don't see it as normal money, something they have to work to get, and work hard, but see it as something kinda magical, that will just pop up on their screen after a few clicks.

Let's follow Warren Buffet's advices, this guy knows how to make money.
2880  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Could someone provide evidence that the majority of Russians aren't insane? on: August 28, 2014, 11:56:29 PM
Could someone provide evidence that the majority of Russians aren't insane?

I can't do that, but I believe some Russians are innocent. They are prisoners, only getting news controlled by their fascist government, with little contact with foreigners. Last month in Switzerland, I had the opportunity to talk with two Russians and they told me they don't want to go back home. And they said they had many friends like them. Life is just so much nicer in Switzerland (or in the West).
