* Xian01 sees Bitmain releases a new product geared for home mining

* Xian01 dusts off account

* Xian01 laughs out loud at the price and wonders what is in the water over there in China

* Xian01 proceeds to visit Coinbase to purchase/HODL 3 BTC instead

You suck, Bitmain.

* Xian01 resumes lurking

Can't say I blame you. Good luck!

I am so disappointed.

I was really looking forward to getting a few of these.

I'll look forward to reading the reviews from those of you who did shell out the extra coin.

And; hopefully, a price drop soon.

EDIT:  Phil -- are your board failures from a specific batch?

No one miner is a batch one. It mined for 65 days.

The other miner is a batch 10 it mined for 10 hours.

A third miner is flaky but would be a batch 3  not sure if it is going to lose a board.

At finksy.  The warranty length of 90 days and the fact that getting it honored is hard to do are both wrong.

I can live with high price for the gear although this item should be 1000-1100 with a real warranty say six or nine months.

Not a ninety day that is not easy to,get.

I purchased lots of gear from them lots and lots of gear.

S1 s3 s5 s7 s9 over 85000 usd .
I have 1 replacement s-1 issued I have a 150 dollar under hash adjustment.
I now need two replacement boards.
This is over three years of purchases and more then 75 pieces of gear.
I showed many ways,to use their gear and I have helped them this way.

But now looking at two dead boards and a flakey third one.
On low clocks never over clocked never run at high temps. I see warranty length and service as huge problem
Why buy gear that dies fast and you still can get the warranty?

Query re the miners at the solar farm needing different Words and routing through a 2nd router.
This seems a better place so not OT in other threads Wink

Ever look at the router logs and filter by traffic to/from the miners addresses to see if something nefarious is going on? Should always be the exact same connections.

Is a suggestion from Opieum2 via Skype. Dunna know why no one else including me didn't think of it... just too easy  Roll Eyes Could also have a packet scanner/sniffer running to see where they go. Is outside my realm so aks others...
Query: Is the farm connected to a different ISP than is at yer home where this issue doesn't happen? There is a rare and unlikely sitch regarding this exact thing so has to be asked. Google ISP btc mining hack

Yeah the solar array is at forum member buysolar he lives four mile from my home.
28728  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Announces the Antminer R4 and APW5 Power Supply, Designed for Silence on: August 30, 2016, 12:34:44 AM
re Philipma: I've never had any hints of your issue at the farm. Ja your setup works but I'm talking about getting PROOF of skimming. As in just where that boards hashing is going if not to your assigned pool where the other boards are pointed.

Would be nice to figure it out, as I said I am not quite sure if it is diverted hash or a dying board or something in the middle of that.
28729  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Announces the Antminer R4 and APW5 Power Supply, Designed for Silence on: August 29, 2016, 11:48:08 PM
Not sure what you mean. The whole card is an individual string, and each card is individually addressed at the control board.
That's what I wanted to know. Only whole board is tasked. I'm on Skype with Opieum2 and the CompSi Master on the issue of some folks having -- odd -- hashrate dropouts eg Phillpma. As in a whole board seeming to be feeding a shadow pool.

That aside, I though electrically the chips were powered in several paralleled banks of series strings. No?

Get a cheap  router DSL

Do this modem ----- original router ------ cheap router.   The phantom s9s with a different password like rootfuckyouhacker.

If all boards pop back up I would be suspecting some diversion.

Although it could be that is the first sign of a board dying and the board will die in a week or so..

I am pretty much ready to go a bit nuts over this gear.

But I now have a second dead board and it came from the mystery drop out miner.

There is one more miner that was dropping a powered board it works now but my gut tells me it will die and I will end up with three dead boards out of six miners.

pattern seems to be mystery hashing  all board used then a vanished board
can be restored behind second router
but now  one seems dead
the other shaky.

and of course the one bad one  never did  this it just went xxxxx  then 0 then zip powerless

My guess is there are stages of death for the boards not a mystery hacker.

Oh no reply on second board as to where to send it.

and no info on board one which they have had since weds.

I am not a huge player  but 85,000usd  in direct business since December 2013 should be worth something.

I never thought I would be forced back to gpu mining but I now run 20 gpus and 470 mh  mostly due to the warranty service of bitmaintech.

What kills me is I want an r4 but 1400 and 90 days for  a warranty is no deal for me.

Two wake-up blocks this morning!  Cheesy

Ugg, the Diff just changed to 221G... Sad

Edit:  I was waiting until the R4 became available about 5 minutes ago...and holy crap!  8.6TH for $1395 USD!  Angry  I'm putting my KeepKey back in the safe...

Yeah at that point you might as well add 200 bucks and get the 12TH + from the S9

At that price, R4 is just another expensive miner at 1.4k - the S9 12.93TH dropping to 1.6k is a "better bargain" - the miner is going to be at my ISP anyways and who cares about the noise.... but I want to wait for the A7 for bit more before pulling trigger for more S9s.

The A7 (or whatever they end up calling it) is more intriguing to me than anything BM puts out.  So I'm still chugging away with just a few A6s.

I have to agree. I'm not trying to sell Avalon here, but after working with strictly BM gear for the past couple of years, I've changed my allegiance. I'm  getting pretty consistent 3.8-4TH rates from my new (relatively quiet) A6 here at home; I could therefore essentially equal an R4's output on two A6s for two-thirds of the capital, although the amp draw on the R4 is low on the face of it.

It also does not give me a whole lot of warm fuzzy confident feelings when BiteMe labels their spec sheet page for the R4 as "S9".

don't forget the s-9 warranty policy is 90 days and hard to get them to honor it.

my adventures in warranty enforcement   6 s-9's 18 boards

second board died yesterday.
first board is in colorado since weds last week no info on it as of today.

second board is sitting in may batch one the warranty dies on sept 9 or 10  which is 90 days after june 12 shipping.

none of my s-9's could do stock numbers without the use of ac. so I am going to take a beating on these six units if they continue to fail.

28731  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Announces the Antminer R4 and APW5 Power Supply, Designed for Silence on: August 29, 2016, 09:18:22 PM
Shipping is included.

That is not true.  It specifically says that shipping is not included and you have to add the item to your cart and go to check out to get actual shipping costs.
Did you buy one? Because I checked out, selected UPS, and paid and received confirmation and I paid $0 in shipping.
Hmmm, well that is true. I tried now as well and I get $0 for shipping with all logistics companies.

You guys actually bought this thing at $1400???  No wonder Bitmain can charge what ever they like...miners will buy anything from them no matter what the cost.

@Bitmain, change the price of the R4 to $4000...you'll still be able to sell them like hotcakes!

I would pay them the 1400 if they had a good warranty.

But based on my 6 s-9's   having now 2 dead boards  an 11% fail rate on in 80 days the other in one day I simply can't fork out the 1400.

These are smaller chips then ever and I am beginning to think they will have a very high fail rate.
28732  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Announces the Antminer R4 and APW5 Power Supply, Designed for Silence on: August 29, 2016, 07:56:12 PM
The price is fine if it had a real warranty.  but sadly an item that won't break even for about 400 days and how long is the warranty?

Oh I now have a second dead miner board.  so 6 units 18 board 2 dead boards.

I still like the gear .
I like that they sell gear.

The price is not the issue the warranty is a real problem.

Unfortunately without real warranty protection these are almost certain to be losing items.

Difficulty History

Aug 15 2016   217,375,482,757   7.67%   1,556,034,316 GH/s

Aug 29 2016   220,755,908,330   1.56%   1,580,232,344 GH/s

The 1.56%  I get this way.

220,755,908,330/217,375,482,757 = 1.01555108943348

which was 1.555108943348%

the winner picked 1.5

which gives him 1.5000000 - 1.5999999 % range

he was inside those number.

I round to keep the look cleaner but the actual numbers to determine the winner are not rounded.

so your picks have a much longer number then 1.5
so far we new had a true rounding issue but we were very close  like 2.60   on may 24thn

the actual number was 2.604%  and some one said what if it were 2.5999 so we decided that the actually difficulty numbers as shown above would break ties.

So  a >>>>>     New game.

Sucksssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss  Angry Angry

Look I do  not hate on bitmaintech.  They sell gear to anyone that pays them.  That is flat out better then most every other asic company on earth.

Avalon sometimes sells gear but they cost a bit more and do not always have the gear.

Bitmaintech is even smart in asking a ton of money  for the s-9  and the new R4.  Really good business tactic.

But they have to fix the warranty process.

I sent one board in last week it arrived on Wednesday  I do not know its status.

I have a second bad board  I want to send it in and I am awaiting an email from Yoshi to send it to Colorado vs China.

This is a bad way to encourage sales.

 I now have 4 units all running lower then stock for fear of burn out.  so 4 x 13 = 52 but I am at 4 x 11.5 = 46

I have two units with 2 boards  doing  7.5 each = 15.0 th so 61th  vs

  6 x 13 = 78th   a loss of 17th.

so between two dead boards and downclock  it is a ton of hash power lost.

It is not so much that boards die.  It is the replacement system.

I am looking to expand  I have 3500 maybe 4000 watts   and I can't see using bitmaintech.  A dead unit can take  weeks for replacement.

Most likely I will lean towards a new gpu machine.

Maybe Yoshi will answer my email today. With good news.
28735  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: My warranty adventure with my s-9. on: August 29, 2016, 04:31:41 PM
Sadly  the second board is dead.

Also  sadly  no notice on the first board.

So with 6 s-9's  and 18 boards I am down 2 boards

or 16 and 2

or 88.88% good and 11.11 % bad.

I just emailed yoshi goto in colorado hopefully he will tell me to ship second dead board out to him today or tues day.

i think you are not,

your pick had to be 1.6% , since 1.56% = 1.6% when rounded.   we don't round

1.5  covers 1.50000000 to 1.599999999

diff was 1.56

we use 1.5 as a short notation
to save space.

I suppose next game we can write as

1.5000
1.6000
1.7000

rather then
1.5
1.6
1.7
