Rack is quickly starting to fill up.  I'm still waiting for my power and Exhaust to be upgraded before I order another larger batch on top of the 4 x S7 that is already purchased.  This setup does not include a couple of S3 left in the house for the free heat.  Currently testing a larger FAN setup to cool 3 x IBM 2KW PSU.

P.S Can a elder member please quote this so that the picture will show up.  Thanks.

Quoted as asked so you can see the pictures in thread.
2882  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: January 10, 2016, 01:31:59 AM
With an s7, rule of thumb is :  overclock if you want, underclock if you want, find a good setting with sub 0.01% error, and then - DONT TOUCH IT EVER AGAIN.  Smiley  Also check out the luck we had at Kano.is pool SmileySmileySmileySmileySmiley

Only thing is if bitmain catches you doing overclock it will void warranty.  Current batch 8 I have not seen a overclock to make it worth losing warranty for.

Chances are they will not catch you.  But it is possible they might depending on problem you have. (Which hopefully there will be no problems and not need warranty)
2883  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BM1384 Pod Miner plus trade-in/recycling - an interest and feasibility poll on: January 10, 2016, 01:27:46 AM
If there is a small production, I will do a group buy for Canada  Grin

Great job Sidehack as always

I'd say I'd do a group buy for Europe, but you may want to use bitshopper.de for the pods too ?

He'll add VAT and profit, I'd rather you do it Smiley

bitshopper.de actually was pretty good when I tried to get one in the US.  I wanted to collect them all on compac's.  He went above and beyond to get me one for decent of the EU compacs.

I don't think you will avoid VAT if you live in EU, but I could be wrong.
2884  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon 6 - Firmware Upgrade Help Avalon6 on: January 10, 2016, 01:25:02 AM
Never do firmware updates.

Simple rule has exceptions.

First does your gear work with current firmware?

If yes don't do a firmware upgrade.

So are you mining  with the rigs?

If yes don't do a firmware upgrade.

Mine with the rigs as they are.

Show us your mining stats.

Then discuss firmware upgrades.

I have two avalon6s I have stock firmware. My gear works fine.

No newer firmware has results better then what I am doing.
If you reall want to upgrade don't do it for now.

I would agree I have 2 using stock firmware aswell.  If it is not broke don't fix it.   It needs to be a big feature or flaw for me to update, I don't think Avalon 6's have this.  It is very stable with stock firmware.

With reading your post's I would be a little worried if you try to do a firmware update.  I suggest leaving it at stock for now.
2885  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: NEW TO MINING on: January 10, 2016, 01:21:58 AM
Dear All,

I am new to mining and would like to go for Antminer S7 Batch 8-what should be my computer's specification like Processor, RAM, MotherBoard, Operating System and mining software along with what is best mining pool should i join ?

I am from India.

Please suggest and guide accordingly

Thanks

If your current OS is windwos then you should not worry about it, about other things it is not important you can even have a very cheap computer to run your S7 but as Amph said a rasperry pi would do it job.

A computer is not needed other then setup.  SO you don't need a RPI or any other special computer to use with S7.

You can use your regular laptop/desktop and set the settings on the S7.  After there it should mine and you will see it when setting it up.  But after set up you just need to check it's still going.  And you don't need a computer 24x7 to do this.
2886  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Should I Buy used or new miners? on: January 10, 2016, 01:19:33 AM
It is better to buy S7. It might still be useful after the difficulty rise and block halving. It is more efficient than old generations.

There is so many different factors like electricity price, if customs, if using 110/120 or 220/240.   It is not one size fit's all.

Some are better off with S7.  But if cheap electricity good chance a older one would be better.  They can get it cheaper and might ROI.  If they can ROI on a old one quicker that is where they should go.

But again this is very different for different people.

The difficulty has risen very fast recently, so the old inefficient miner will be out of use very soon even for cheap electricity price.

Not true though.  What about those with "free" electricity?  I'm not one lucky enough for it.  But if they have it amount paid per hash is more important then efficiency.

So again it all depends on what your situation is.  Mining is not one size fits all.
2887  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: S7 miner location - Suggestions please on: January 10, 2016, 01:18:05 AM
Hello

This is my situation

I currently own a S7 miner. I have a opportunity to run it with free electricity. Now my problem is getting a data feed to the miner.
The location it will be going to is a large storage room in a apartment building. I do work at this building so I have access to the room all the time.
There is plenty of power outlets there but I need a solution to get data to the miner.

Thoughts and suggestions would be great. Thank you.

My biggest question is do you have permission to run it in the room at your work?   Second one would be what kinda electric outlet's you have in there.

But if you don't have permission from your work do not do it, just is not worth the risk.  On electric outlet a S7 takes a lot of electricity a standard 110/120 it will use up most of it.  Also if 110/120 you will not be able to use some of the server PSU's like bitmains.  So I see power as a possible issue aswell.
2888  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: cheap electricity so what now? on: January 10, 2016, 01:13:24 AM
You should definitely take advantage of that, just get an old miner and you are all set, you won't be making much of course but it would be free and if you have faith in Bitcoin it could be much more valuable in a couple of years, twice or more.

You can also try mining another coin that gives you more bang for your buck: https://www.whattomine.com

A lot of these are altcoins, and scrypt or other algos.  So they cannot be mined with standard bitcoin miner.

A better one for bitcoin is: https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/calculator It will allow you look at ROI math with difficulty changes.  And these difficulty changes are a big thing over time.
2889  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Dec 31 to Jan 12 Diff thread picks closed. on: January 10, 2016, 01:10:13 AM
Bitwisdom is not horrible:

Bitcoin Difficulty:    103,880,340,815
Estimated Next Difficulty:    111,965,941,024 (+7.78%)
Adjust time:    After 560 Blocks, About 3.6 days
Hashrate(?):    806,506,049 GH/s

Still hope that is high though.  Price took a little bit of a dive and is at 444,  it looks pretty steep on daily.
2890  Economy / Services / Re: [BIT-X.com] Earn Bitcoins by Posting | Signature Campaign on: January 10, 2016, 12:20:12 AM
Is bot time not the same as blockchain?  I see my last payment was 2016-01-03 08:50:02 on blockchain from bot.

But bot shows: Payment time: 2016-01-09 .  So was wondering  if bot is not paying or time is just different?
2891  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Avalon6 3.65 TH/s miners for sale on: January 09, 2016, 03:42:49 AM
You posted in wrong spot you need to post in hardware sales.  Sales are not posted in this forum.  Also you might include picture of all 10 instead of 1 as being a new user.

Also you might look at current price it is closer to this group buy going on: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1318003.0
2892  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Dec 31 to Jan 12 Diff thread picks closed. on: January 09, 2016, 03:26:44 AM
I missed the picks but I'm very certain that this round there will be a winner. It'll be under %10 and almost all slots filled already.

Today ended being +16.2%, so if this continues most likely we will see at least +10% diff increase in the next 5 days.

Hopefully it does not continue.  We have been up and down a tad but seems 450 is steady for the moment.  Winter mining might be harder then I expected.

I thought summer mining was going to be tough for me but I was able to do it.   And it had a  nice low rate increase, which now we have a cray high one.
2893  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best bitcoin wallet? on: January 08, 2016, 08:30:50 PM
best for me is trezor

what is trezor?
where i can use it this wallet?

Look up above a few post's it is a hardware wallet.  You can buy one and use it.  I have done a hand's on with one:
Trezor: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1298917.0

I suggest looking at different types of wallets and reading up a bit.
2894  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer s5 Melting plugs on: January 08, 2016, 08:25:37 PM
I was except the front plug is on fire hot now on the same board.  Just the wires are hot to the touch while the opposite board shows no sign of heat.

Unplug it don't run if it's "fire hot".  If you do this it's just going to melt the last one and you are literally playing with fire.

Best thing would be to find someone who is able to solder decent, and have them put a new PCIe plug on the melted on.   If you cant find local might ask on board.  But don't run it "fire hot" unless your just looking for trouble.

Like I said earlier.  I went down to one plug on both boards.  The other side front plug and wires are room temp to the touch,  the already melted  side was hot.   What is a reasonable price to pay for another board in us dollars or BTC?  I have had a couple message me and want me to make offers.

I had another guy in my ltb thread say something about the ground screws and springs but not sure what he ment.

A new board will cost almost half of the units current price.   They are not cheap to get   Going down to 1 and it being fire hot is bad, stop it right now and find solution.

Most likely if you can not solder find someone in services or someone who is known to do it and ship your board to them to have adapter resoldered with new adapter.  This should be a decent amount cheaper then buying new board.
2895  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: cheap electricity so what now? on: January 08, 2016, 08:15:58 PM
Avalon 6 has a group buy it looks like currently that might be worth looking at if stuck on 110/120.   But your right if they are able to power the S7 it is cheaper as far as hash currently.

I think he needs to figure out the wattage like you said though. Unless his line is 220/240 I think one modern miner will use most of his "2 power outlets but are on the same power line"
sry about that

i have standard 110/120 with rare power spikes

If you have 110/120 and only 2 power outlets that lead to same power line one new miner ill most likely max out your outlet pretty  well.  Say you go with S6 and 1600 watt evga, then you have used up pretty much all of that outlet.

You will need more electricity and more power lines if you want to have multiple and 220/240 is best anymore.
2896  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: s7 new farm on: January 08, 2016, 08:13:23 PM
I m not sure home mining s a way to go anymore. I do not want to spoil your plans but with 20-30% montly diff growth, I simply do not see how that can work anymore.

His farm is in Venezuela... so he has cheaper then average electricity.   So I doubt it is going to hurt him.

On other miners with home/hobby with regular electricity pricing it needs a bump in value.  I think there will always be some hobby and home miners no matter what.

Electricity price s got nothing to do with diff growth. Even if he s got higher reward now, due to lower electricity price, it s still going to go down 20% per month if this trend continues. To tell u the truth, I expect mining diff to go up even more in case BTC price starts to push higher.

But hes paying so little he likely can run no matter difficulty for a long time.  Look at Venezuela it's not the most reliable but it is always said to be super cheap.

I don't disagree that it will continue to grow. I hope it slows down some and it is a little bit.  But likely company's will keep pumping out chips and that means more and more hash rate. Just the nature of the beast at this point.

If the bitcoin price rises, the mining will continue even for the low efficiency miners. The difficulty will rise with the new miners.

But is paying almost nothing on electricity he has a huge advantage here he can use old gear, or new gear. At least once a month we get someone wanting to start a farm in Venezuela.  Most don't go through with it.

There are a lot of other factors that make it not the greatest in all aspects.
2897  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What would be a good asic miner to start with? on: January 08, 2016, 08:10:36 PM
By your standard (less than 8c/KWH) my electric is cheap - yet I've NEVER had any of the calculations I've done show that the S7 will ever pay off. Usually not even all that close to doing so.

VERY VERY cheap (3c or under) maybe, though right now even at the way-too-late drop in S7 pricing it's still looking VERY iffy.

 NOT 7.5c

I would agree on cheap being closer to 3C or so.  The big guys can chase this electricity price and build where ever they find it.  This is why they have a huge advantage.   Some gear even at halving at 3C chances are they still can run.

Us more "regular" user's would be 8-10 cents or so I think.  And above 10 get's tough unless your one  of those who say's they use it for heat in winter... then it get's a little more complex.

i know that big farm run on 5 cent not 3 cent, and i doubt they changed their place with their mega farm

maybe they can afford to upgrade their contract in soem way?

No, they locate in places where electric is inherently cheap - like MegaBigPower in the Wenatchee area (normal electric rates of 3c/KWH or a little LESS even for small folks and residential).

Like real estate in general, it's all about location - but in this case it's all about locating where electric is VERY VERY cheap.

Real estate taxes aren't going to add a significant amount to their overhead if they own. A few thousand AT MOST to a farm running thousands of miners is a pittance.

And it's due to the scale they mine at.  Even if they have a network engineer, someone to monitor miners 24x7, people to work on miners, etc.  It is very small compared to what they bring in.

And in some countries they go to like China you would be surprised I think on pay.    They are able to get people for not a ton of money.
2898  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: January 08, 2016, 04:50:31 AM
you think those temps are okay?

I don't but maybe I am wrong.

Batch 8 with a slight OC.  Anything higher raises the errors above .01

I would want to know ambient temp.  But that is getting up there.  What does it run not OC'ed??

I to think it is most likely to high.  I don't think Batch 8 was made to OC as much as some might want it to, it simply is already very high on frequency.  And it's sure not worth losing warranty for a slight OC.

The room this is in has an AC unit which blows outside air all day which is cold during the day and very cold during the night.  The temps in that room get up to about 73-75°F in the afternoon which is about when that screen shot was taken.  Here it is now.  Fans are at 60%.  It is only a couple hours in the afternoon when the hashing board hits the low 70's.  It will be below 70 in another hour or so.

Here is a batch 5 with fans at 60% sitting next to it.

I could bring the temps down by raising the fan speed.  There is also an oscillating fan in the room and I have found that by pointing it at the shelf with the miner intakes I can lower the temps also but I didn't really think a few hours in the low 70's was a big deal.

Likely a few hours you are right did not do any damage.  It would need to be more long term I think for it to take effect.

But with bitmains current policy if you are caught you lose warranty over a little bit of speed increase.  That is part I don't think it is worth even though chances of being caught are slim..
2899  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to collect BTC ?? on: January 08, 2016, 02:36:41 AM
you can play with faucet and get some sotoshi, you just solve the captha. or you can buy altcoin, then trnade it, if the price is good or increase before, you can sell all yours altcoin, and all people doing that daily.

Faucets are cent's per hours so I highly recommend not wasting time there your better off buying 5 dollars worth of btc and you can play with it.  And you chances are saved weeks of faucets.

Altcoins are not easy like they once were.  It's a lot of pump/dump, and some are not that great.  You can lose as easy as you can win.

I would suggest finding a skill or something you can sell.  Or something you can do like mining (which is getting harder to get into).  But so much better things you can do with time then faucets.
2900  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Remembered I started mining in early 2011 and trying to recover it on: January 08, 2016, 02:32:15 AM
More information would be useful.

You say you started in 2011 so obviously it was easy to mine back then, however how long did you leave it running give an estimate, 1 day 1 week a year ..... ??

Do you know the PC's specs because if it was a rubbish computer then you may have so little coins its not worth worrying about

I don't think hes coming back:

I don't think there is much we can do in all honesty.  He needs to know if he stored it online or on PC, if he cant say that there is nothing we can do.  If online I would have him check email from then... but chances of it being there from 2011 till no is slim.

But I think this is a moot point as I do not think hes coming back looking at profile was only online for around 2 hours.
