2881  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Up to what discount are you giving up for your customers? on: February 02, 2023, 04:34:24 PM
I can't speak from the perspective of someone who sells something, but as a client I can notice that these discounts are mostly between 5-10%. I think that anything less than 5% is quite ineffective in terms of attracting a customer to pay with Bitcoin, especially at a time when the price of BTC is rising and it is more worthwhile to pay with fiat. On the other hand, at least a 10% discount makes sense, especially if it is a service/product that is more expensive and the customer can save a significant amount to spend on something else.

In any case, discounts are something that can at least attract customers to try paying with Bitcoin, so all sellers should think about it in case they have Bitcoin as a means of payment in their online/physical store.
2882  Economy / Economics / Re: Bank of China ex-advisor calls Beijing to reconsider crypto ban on: February 02, 2023, 04:06:52 PM
With crypto emerging as the "legalize and tax it" version of legalizing cannabis of decades past. Could china's economy significantly benefit from approving and regulating crypto, rather than resorting to hardline policies more closely resembling outright bans?

In past years, we were bombarded with countless news articles claiming china would emerge as the next global superpower to dethrone the united states and takeover as the #1 nation in the world. Now that economic slowdown has encompassed the globe. Can china achieve its lofty ambitions, without harnessing emerging technologies like crypto to boost its economic potential and tax revenues? Could there be criticism made against china for handicapping themselves by outlawing things which might only give them an economic advantage over the long term?

I wouldn't be surprised if a beginner asks such questions, but haven't we already concluded dozens of times that China lost almost nothing by its decisions to ban crypto trading and mining? According to the latest data, the GDP in 2022 for China was slightly less than $15 trillion - and the question for you is how much would China profit if it had a monopoly on BTC mining and all CEXs were located in China? It seems to me that the amount is such that most members of the communist party would not even blink an eye if someone mentioned it.

The bottom line is that any policy shift towards cryptocurrencies does not change the outlook for the Chinese economy to any significant extent. I personally hope that they will stay true to their decisions, because Bitcoin only suffered from China, and we don't need a repeat of that story.
2883  Economy / Economics / Re: FED's action | 25 pts hike in Interest | Bitcoin does not even move! on: February 02, 2023, 03:25:41 PM
Perhaps the point is that the market had already predicted some things and started to behave in accordance with these predictions, which means that it was expected that the central banks would be lenient this year when it comes to raising interest rates. Given that this happened, instead of the usual sell-off in the markets, nothing special happened, and the price of BTC is about 2.5% higher compared to the last 24 hours.

If the increase in interest rates is maintained in the 0.25 zone, it is possible that we will no longer see major disruptions in the markets, and that is good for everyone.
2884  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Throw more light to the associated risks involved than just the profits. on: February 02, 2023, 02:57:36 PM
Quote
Throw more light to the associated risks involved than just the profits.

These should be quite simple things, because if you don't make a profit, the opposite is that you will either lose part/all of the amount you invested or you may end up with a positive zero. When investing in cryptocurrencies, the risks are far greater than in the case of stocks, gold or real estate, because the risk is not only in the price, but also in the way someone keeps/stores their coins, which is one of the weakest points of most investors.

How am going to convince him to buy into this strategy is what I don't know where to start from for him to believe it will work out well for some profits, and another thing is if he would have  available $200 at the moment  to DCA for another one year or more.
I won't conclude anyway not until I relate to him on this idea.

Are you a financial advisor or a great cryptocurrency expert? Why do you even go to such conversations, unless you want to be responsible for another possible disappointment and maybe even a financial loss? In my opinion, that person has two options - simply wait for the price to be higher than when he invested and then sell, or accept the loss if he needs the money.

Money doesn't fall from the sky, and neither does good advice, no matter how well-intentioned.
2885  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2023-02-01] Ban on Crypto Mining in Residential Areas Proposed in Russia on: February 02, 2023, 12:06:53 PM
To be honest, it has already become quite boring and tiring to read news like this, because no matter how much some people think that a country should regulate in one way or another or not everything that has to do with cryptocurrencies, in that story Russia is something that should not be given too much attention. That country is far from being friendly towards anything that represents decentralization, and Bitcoin as a currency for them is nothing but a form of threat that needs to be fought against.

In addition, the laws can only be a dead letter if the majority do not respect them, and we know that crypto mining is still present in China regardless of the complete ban, as well as that according to the information of some people from the forum, people in Turkey use cryptocurrencies for payment ( public) although the use of the same is prohibited by law.

~snip~
Double standarts, no for the population, yes for the fight.

Those at the top are powerful enough to always adjust the situation to their advantage, and systems that are absolutely centralized and corrupt to the core will never allow anyone or anything to threaten them. I am personally surprised that Russia has not already declared Bitcoin a Nazi tool considering how many donations the country that they want to liberate from the Nazis has received through it.

2887  Economy / Economics / Re: Monthly or weekly pay? Fixed or percentage earning? what is your prefrence. on: February 02, 2023, 11:25:30 AM
In my environment, people mostly work for a fixed monthly salary, which can be increased if they work on Sundays, holidays or at night, and I think that most people still prefer that way of payment. Maybe in some industries weekly salary payments make sense, but in most cases it just creates additional work for the administration, because it is much easier to calculate the salary once a month than every week.

I also know that there are companies that, although they pay a fixed monthly salary, also motivate their employees with additional bonuses in the form of a percentage of sales. In this way, people who work in direct sales are motivated to try to sell as much as possible, because in addition to a regular salary, they can also expect additional earnings.

I would therefore always opt for a fixed payment because it still provides much greater financial security, and I know a lot of people who do something extra in addition to their job, so sometimes you can get the best of both payment methods.
2888  Economy / Speculation / Re: what now ? on: February 02, 2023, 10:56:56 AM
~snip~
But if it OP bought at this price, just might be matter of months to see his investment double if we are going to continue with this bull run to $30k.

You see, this is the problem with most of those people who constantly read and listen to stories about how someone invested $10 or $100 and then became a millionaire, and today even 100% profit will not satisfy the majority of those who invest in Bitcoin. I would tell such people not to invest their money, but to keep it in banks that will surely give them very favorable interest rates on savings, or to save it under the mattress and watch it lose value year after year.

It's just a matter of risking or not - but as one famous character said "He Who Dares Wins" Wink
2889  Economy / Economics / Re: Throwback - Tesla lost $204 million in Bitcoin, but learn the lesson from this! on: February 02, 2023, 10:19:18 AM
A man who has hundreds of billions of dollars and is one of the richest in the world will certainly not fail because of a few hundred million dollars, because that is the same as making news that one of us lost $20 because he sold BTC at the wrong time. Everyone who experienced ecstasy because Mr. Mars once loved Bitcoin got slapped and should have learned a lesson after that, but they still think that the great leader will address the world again with some tweet of his that will start an avalanche. If you are among them, be ready to prepare the other cheek, because you deserve a new slap.

The next time you think that Mr. Mars is a good man who changes the world, maybe you should look at the cobalt mines in Africa and ask him if he is proud of his work?

For years, big tech companies like Apple and Tesla have assured the customers of their glossy stores and showrooms that all their goods are ethically sourced and sold. But a new series of images taken from inside mines in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where 90 percent of the world's cobalt is mined and used to make the batteries that power our tech-led lives, raise uncomfortable questions

2890  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [ASK] Which apps or platforms can generate crypto? on: February 01, 2023, 04:45:20 PM
There are faucets and various PTCs that give a small reward for completing a task, but these rewards are very low considering their fiat value. Those who earn from such jobs are usually people who are owners or those users who have a lot of referrals (active of course).

I recommend that you visit Micro Earnings board, and there, among other things, you can see my thread with a link that might help you in your search Wink
2891  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Main Stream Media trying to defame Crypto / Bitcoin on: February 01, 2023, 03:59:06 PM
Look like mainstream media trying to put fear in people mind and they trying to give fearful statements about crypto even when it is not related to crypto and bitcoin.

I will correct you, they are not trying to do anything you think, but they are trying to get more subscribers - because as others have noticed, the article is locked and I assume that you haven't read it either, because the news that you think is relevant is actually already old news that has been discussed on the forum for some time.

Who thinks DCG / Genesis / Grayscale / Barry are bad actors?

This things indicates that prices are being suppressed because of these news and they will blast very soon. Get in the train before its too late.

Who cares what Silbert, the twins and various other crypto messiahs are doing, because they are just fighting for another billion more on their account. It's never too late to board the train you mention, and the ticket costs as much as you're willing to pay - which means that the rich don't decide who will ride with them.
2892  Other / Meta / Re: Hypothetical Btalk Forum App Version/ Social Media features? on: February 01, 2023, 03:35:58 PM
I know that this would never happen, but could you imagine if BTalk had an application on your phone?

I do not use my smartphone to log into the forum, so such an app would not be of any use to me, although I am aware that many people visit the forum precisely on their smartphones. For them, such an app would certainly be of great help, but at the same time, we should not forget about the risk of hacking BTT accounts, which would certainly increase due to fake apps that would appear everywhere. In case such an app appears one day, I think it should have e-mail 2FA to reduce the risk of hacking.
2893  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [INFO] 3 Frequent mistakes done by forum members. on: February 01, 2023, 12:13:35 PM
This thread reminded me of some things that irritate me personally and about which I tried to warn beginners, but also some "more experienced" members of the forum. The problem is that very few people read such topics, and even fewer understand what we are discussing here. Some cannot be blamed because there is a language barrier and they simply have a hard time understanding a lot of things, the much bigger problem is those others who understand perfectly, but simply don't care.

Some annoying things that beginners do (but also some old members)
2894  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Loan Defaulted [Yolo89] ! on: February 01, 2023, 11:49:35 AM
@Yolo89 definitely don't care about flag or feedback on his account.

Why would he care that he destroyed the reputation of only one BTT account, when there are probably who knows how many more with which he will try to make a new scam? If things like this happen publicly, I wonder what is happening through private messages and through Telegram, where there are certainly a lot of victims who will not publicly admit that they were naive.

In the end, the OP should be happy that his loan didn't include another 0, because a few hundred $ most people will somehow manage to survive and forget.
2895  Economy / Speculation / Re: what now ? on: February 01, 2023, 11:35:17 AM
Well you might have missed the bottom at $15,500. But in any case still a goo price to invest, projection for the next bull run is 6 digits, $100k-$200k so you can still make a good profit if you invest right now.

The problem with all those who were waiting for the "bottom" is that various "experts" predicted $10k-12k, and the current price does not quite match what they expected, so many now have doubts like the OP. I can understand someone's hesitation if they want to invest a lot of money and maybe buy 0.5 BTC or more, but most of those who waited for the right moment invest several tens or hundreds of $ and actually will not save any significant amount in such calculations.

But I will say that we are still in the bear market. Probably is just just some recovery that we are seeing and maybe the next stop for the price is $25 k. And then maybe we will see if there is a correction (most likely), to around $20k again before moving to the next price level of $30k-$50k at the end of the year.

That's my opinion too, but it's hard to explain to people that something big isn't happening if they know that recently the price was $16k and today it's $23k. If we're talking six-figure speculation after the halving in 2024, it really doesn't matter if someone missed the $15k bottom or if they're buying today, tomorrow, or a month from now.
2896  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the official site? bitcoincore.org or bitcoin.org ? on: February 01, 2023, 11:16:35 AM
When someone asks about the official site, the bank or the CEO of Bitcoin, then we know that he has not understood what decentralization actually means in the context of Bitcoin. However, it is good for people to ask, because not only will they learn, but they will surely pass that knowledge on and enlighten someone else who may be asking the same question or living in a delusion.

However, I would warn all those who do not know to avoid bitcoin with the extension .com, because of its policy of spreading disinformation to the detriment of Bitcoin - it is not only a fake site, but also a malicious one.
2897  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Web Browsers begun to have inbuilt Cryptocurrency Wallets on: January 31, 2023, 04:55:59 PM
I have expressed my opinion several times that crypto wallets in combination with browsers are a bad idea, especially if they are used to store some significant amounts. However, given that this wallet is available in all versions of Opera, for some it might be interesting as a mobile hot wallet. I have not researched the possibilities of this wallet, but as far as can be seen, it does not support too many cryptocurrencies - the list is here -> https://help.opera.com/en/opera-wallet-supported-crypto-assets/
2898  Economy / Services / Re: Lost access to MY Google account paying 10k on: January 31, 2023, 04:02:42 PM
I once had a similar problem when I accidentally deleted google cookies and could no longer log in to Gmail, even though I had the correct login data, and I also did not have a backup e-mail/SMS set up. Fortunately, I was able to fix the problem by restarting my modem and with a new IP address I was able to log in.

You are in a much more difficult situation because you obviously don't have access to the location/device you used before, and according to what I found online, the chances of getting your account back are really minimal. Maybe someone has a lesser-known method that really works, but if you haven't already, I suggest you read what is written on the following link :

There are a variety of potential questions the account recovery process may ask, but most of the them are based on having a pre-configured recovery e-mail address and phone number on the account.  If these are not available (never configured, gone out-of-date, changed by a hacker) the number of questions available may be very limited making it hard to prove ownership of the account. In summary, if you can not recover the account using the provided process, it may be lost.  There are no other account recovery options available.
2899  Economy / Economics / Re: Crypto attracts more millionaires, according to new study on: January 31, 2023, 03:22:49 PM
Maybe citizens in the US have a respected opinion about what JPM or GS think, but it is no secret that they, like other similar institutions, only follow trends and nothing more. I honestly express my doubts about the estimates that are presented, because it is very questionable how they come to such conclusions at all, and regardless of whether they are surveys or analyzes of some companies that deal with it, these figures are almost always exaggerated.

I have been reading news like this since the first day I came to this forum, and the only thing that has changed are the numbers. If only 50% of everything stated in the article were true, Bitcoin would be worth at least five times more today than it is currently worth.
2900  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: bitcoin halving dates in one graph on: January 31, 2023, 03:00:14 PM
In few more years Bitcoin will become extremely rare to come by, maybe that will be a wake-up call for the unbelievers...

If you mean the amount that will remain for mining, then that is correct - because in about ten years, 99% of all BTC will be mined, which will mean that only 210 000 will remain for the next 100 years, which, regardless of the price, will be a fairly small number of BTC for which the miners will compete. As for those you call "non-believers", it's completely stupid to think about what they think, and as far as I'm concerned, they can all live in their beliefs for the rest of their lives, that's definitely their right.

..some hit a BTC block on a pool weeks ago with roughly 12TB of mining hash rate, this block consists of 6.25 BTC, I believe this persons is now rich if they can just hold till the next bull season. It's crazy how some people are so lucky in this world lol.

It is not the first time in the recent past that someone has found a block with solo mining, but depending on where such a person lives, it may or may not be a fortune.
