Just curious why people think bfl singles are worth $775 dollars? At current price and difficulty with reward drop at end of december, I'm calculating 555 days to pay off a single at that price vs 165 to pay off a 5970 (last purchase was $220), it just doesn't make since to me. Will we ever see a 400 dollar single? Cause that's about what I would be willing to pay.
Two reasons: 1) Some people will likely buy them to take advantage of the trade-in offered by BFL. As long as they mine more than the premium of the payment (i.e, $800 in the case of Trader Joe) prior to their ASIC shipment, they will have made money. 2) Lower electrical usage. A 5970 is going to suck down significantly more juice than a BFL unit. Especially for those in areas with high electric rates, it can make a large difference in overall profitability.

Regarding HDDs, never go for consumer-grade ones. Don't look at capacity first = look at RPM and how many years warranty covers. Rather buy 10.000+ RPM server-grade, 5 years warranty, 250GB HDD than 7.200 RPM, 1 or 2 years warranty, 1+ TB HDD. Seriously. mhh, I dont think so... Btw I really need the storage -_- I have an 13 year old barracuda in a old pc with 35 gb storage, its workt perfectly till now and further. Also have another Barracuda 5 year old with 320gb 7200tpm and 0 bad sectors/errors etc. This drive is fast (150mb/s+ write) and thats exactly what I need, Btw I have 5 year warranty on the hdd. I dont need 'server rate 10.000rpm 250gb' hdd's, 7200 tpm is fast enough and I can easely get 100 gbs more on my hdd in a few days... But on the topic again: I downloaded Pywallet and installed everything succesfully but now when I click 'pywllet.py' there is a cmd screen that pops up and goes away in 1/10 of a second, whats the matter with the thing? I cant execute it as Admin as there is no option for it.. I think you have to do it from the command line.... start-->run-->cmd

Honestly, I think the other guys are going to run into snags as well. BFL's dates have been pushed out for a variety of little reasons... what makes everyone think that the other vendors won't run into similar little issues here and there as well?
Do the bASIC and Avalon creators have experience in managing inventories? Do they know how to track lead times, vendor inventory levels, and make sure that each of the hundreds of necessary components will arrive on time? Do any of them have a working prototype?
I would be surprised if BFL wasn't first to ship. But certainly, time will tell. And certainly, I have been wrong before.

then you're all morons lmfao, what is this a university? i would actually get offended by a bunch of monkeys with weird names?
If he is loaning out 4.2 btc and i am looking for 6.5 btc, then how fucking much do you think i'm asking for him dimwit?
Usually, when people are looking for a loan, they need the whole amount, and a partial amount does them no good. You really should have just said you wanted the 4.2 BTC without trying to qualify the entirety of your loan needs.

For the more technically savvy the raw tx API (perhaps with help from brainwallet.org) reduces the priority of this feature a lot (as you have been able to do everything you want as far as controlling your coins since 0.7 was released). For the less technically competent I guess the question is really whether the UI can be made easy enough to make the feature worthwhile implementing (if it's not easily understood then there is probably little point in doing more work on this). Note that I haven't actually tested the patch so have no idea how intuitive the UI is. Certainly I doubt it will ever be a feature that Gavin's grandmother will be asking for. ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) One only has to look at blockchain.info's implementation to see how easy a UI could be. You simply tell the system how many coins you want to send, and to what address, and you have an optional drop-down asking you what address you would like to send from, and how many coins reside at said address. It might be difficult to implement in the code (though blockchain.info seems to have done it quite successfully without much trouble), but it's certainly not difficult to use from an end-user perspective. I'd even argue that it would give users a better understanding of addresses and wallets in general, rather than just having an account balance that is somehow tied to a variety of unknown addresses (once change addresses are created and not shown to the user).

I have Seagate Barracuda 1 tb 7200rpm Most likely not related, but I killed two of these drives a couple months ago & the 2 replacements I was sent. It was normal desktop usage, they all done that 'click-whirl' cycle and didn't work at all, wouldn't recommend them at all personally even though they get good reviews online. I'd recommend you not to use the official client, its slow bulky and unnecessary for the average user. MultiBit, Electrum and blockchain.info are my favourite clients. yep made account on Blockchain.info and now going to upload wallet.dat (hope everything goes alright) But what is my wallet ''private key'' Your wallet contains private keys for each address within it. There isn't a single wallet private key. A private key corresponds to an address, and a wallet holds many private keys.

How about using a different client? Electum, blockchain.info, etc?
Also, check your HDD for errors. You never know, it could be a bad block causing all your troubles.

google used to be a search engine, now a lot of the search results are paid ads
Yes, but this is the other way around. "In Soviet France, ads pay for you."

I don't think you'll find any argument here. There is nothing logical about this request.

Sandy's pretty much done, it's left rain and snow and nothing else. Thanks for joining me as I covered Hurricane Sandy
I've read all of your updates, that was so crazy. Thx for telling the progress. I was just thinking about what if we could donate in bitcoins, their sponsor site seems to be down. I dun get it. How can they claim to send "100% of donations to the Red Cross" when they'll have to exchange it for USD with a fee in order for Red Cross to accept the donation?

If the writing is of decent quality, I can push to have it published at bitcoinmagazine.net. We're always looking for more content, even on the website, and I don't think publishing articles written by people not directly involved with the mag is out of the question. I don't see any reasons why BM wouldn't count as an attributable primary source.

Mining could still be useful, in order to maintain a decentralized structure, even without creating new coins.
Even without new coins you get the double spend factor. Someone spends the same coins inside the desert town and outside in the main world, this would not be noticed until someone takes the coins from the desert town to the main world. When reorganizing the coins from the desert town on to the main chain all coins that where double spend would disappear. Bencoin seems to have the double spend covered (but centralized ugh), not to sure about Towncoin ... Interesting question idd ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif) I think the town should just have it's own local coin. That would make the most sense, IMO. No risk of double-spending, no need to "sync up" with a huge outside network that has little or no bearing on the local economy, and a simple Towncoin<>BTC exchange could take care of making sure it has value of some sort.

Still nothing important. On 28.09.12 they made 100% for 70 minutes: https://i.imgur.com/M2B7y.pngReally, its just the best connected node we have. If more Universitys would run nodes like that, we would have solved the Blockchain size problem. So this is really a good thing. Um - no that's 100% for 5 in a row (35 minutes) Or 78% of 9 blocks for 49 minutes ... Yes - again - it's a routing issue as I said in the first post. Of course meaning that some bitcoind on the net is WAY more connected than anyone else - and passing along blocks very fast. The fact that at least 2 pools (as I said further up and had already checked before I posted) produced the blocks proves that also. I believe they also skip verification of blocks as well. So if someone connects to them, and sends a block their way, they IMMEDIATELY send it along to blockchain.info and whoever else wants it. That's part of the reason they are the first to relay so many of them.

Thanks ^ Done.. here is an update... MSI Customer service has got right back to me. There upgrading this board to a 990FXA-GD80 motherboard and sending me a prepaid shipping label to send my "defective" board back I have had problems with EVERY single MSI board I have in my farm. Out of 43 rigs, 11 are MSI. The rest are what many people call "crap". ECS and Biostar. 2 are ASRock that I've had some small problems with. Not one problem with any ECS or Biostar. No need to jumper presence pins or do other crap to have the board run 4 gpus. MSI boards on the other hand... to me... "crap". That's pretty hilarious actually... I've only had one MSI board, and it's treated me fine thus far running 24/7 for more than a year now. I had a Foxconn board once. Once. I've also dealt with a few Biostar and ECS boards. Don't remember any of them dying on me. I've had pretty good luck with Gigabyte boards. The only time I had one die on me was when I put max voltage through the northbridge and ran it that way for 3-4 months. I usually look for Gigabyte boards when I'm on the lookout for a new one, but they don't always have all the features I need.

Any chance you will support files up to 20GB in size in the future?
Does the uploading party have to own the files they upload?

Bah, I recall reading numerous topics over many months where ppl state that "we know satoshi is sill around or back" when the genesis block moves. Not a single time did I catch a reply saying that it cant.
In all likelihood, he does own block 1.

I think the last two options are skewing your results.
It's like polling people for what vegetable they like to eat, then adding cake and cookies to the end.
