2901  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: 1inch Network's HW on: January 26, 2023, 07:01:08 PM
I appreciate your opinion and attitude towards this device model, but I am sure that this device will have many fans.
I am hesitant and not sure. On first sight it looks better than the Ledger Stax. But Ledger and 1inch can't be compared in terms of market presence. We all know that Ledger won't mind spending big bucks on marketing their new product. Even if the 1inch looks better, I am afraid it will end up on the second place. It will surely find its clientele among NFT fans and those using ETH DEXs, etc. Deciding to not support bitcoin is very unusual and weird. I don't understand it from a business point of view. Even if you are targeting a completely different set of people, don't forget the basics.
2902  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Xor or multisig on: January 26, 2023, 05:46:55 PM
Why is that an issue?
It depends on what you personally consider an issue. It's not a problem in the sense that you will loose your bitcoin if someone gets hold of your xpub. You won't. But knowing the extended key provides knowledge of all child keys. In essence someone would have the means to track all addresses of your wallet. They would know how much you own and whenever you send or receive coins to addresses associated with that wallet. You have to judge yourself if someone else having that information is an issue for you or not.
2903  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Unstoppable wallet {User experiences} on: January 26, 2023, 05:34:18 PM
I believe the confirmation status changes to Confirmed after the third block confirmation.  Your suggestion would be great indeed.
That's good enough. 3 blocks deep is already safe enough in my opinion. I wouldn't worry about it.

You know what!  I created a new account to test this out and you are right!  I can not even get a Receiving Address unless I back up my Seed Phrase.  Yet, I can use another Wallet I already have.  Does this mean I have already done the Backup someday?  Now I am so confused!
When did you first install and create your wallet? I played around with Unstoppable back in November/December. Seed backup was needed back then. Maybe you worked with an older version where they didn't have that requirement yet.

~Features:
  • Genuinely Private: There are no servers keeping user accounts or any kind of identifiers.

The claim makes it sound like you don't need to connect to a server, but how could that be possible?  How do you transact with a blockchain without connecting to a server or a full node?  My admittedly limited knowledge gives me the impression that, technically speaking that is not possible.  Certainly no one is running full nodes for each coin on their mobile device.  That would be impractical.

Then I got to thinking about the semantics of the claim, and that made me a bit suspicious: "There are no servers keeping user accounts or any kind of identifiers."  So a server does exist, but it doesn't log sensitive information?  If so, who's running the server, Horizontal Systems?  Doesn't that make it centralized?
The most important word here is keeping. Servers exist and you interact with them, but the developers are saying your information doesn't get logged and stored. Despite the wallet's open-source nature, this is not something you can check. I don't think you can. Their servers may or may not be logging everything you do. I wonder how they could prove that isn't the case Huh
2904  Other / Meta / Re: How many forum members do you know by real name? on: January 26, 2023, 05:16:34 PM
It would probably be weird to say 0, and I think you're just lying about the number.
Consider that one of your family members or your friends intends to learn about forums and crypto, so they ask you to create a forum account, and would you still say 0?
I don't think it's weird at all. None of my family or relatives are on Bitcointalk. People from my friends circle that know I am into crypto know absolutely zero about this forum. I don't speak about bitcoin to other friends, colleagues, and acquaintances nor am I aware that any of them use bitcoin in any capacity.

He either has people he knows on the forum or he doesn't. It can't go both ways.
2905  Economy / Gambling / Re: [Table] Withdrawal Fees and Withdrawal Amounts on Crypto Casinos on: January 26, 2023, 05:02:29 PM
I mean, casinos like bethash who change 0.002btc on withdrawal fees don't spend those fees in the transaction, they spend the min and keep the rest for their pockets.
I seriously doubt they have many players, and not just because of their withdrawal demands. I mean, have you ever heard someone say they gamble on that site or recommend others to do it on this forum?

Little correction here, they are charging 0.000075 BTC withdrawal fee on BEP20 (Binance Smart Chain) network. The withdrawal fee is still same on the main network of Bitcoin, and it is 0.0004 BTC. Seems like you got confused and updated the BEP20 network withdrawal fee on the table.
I guess I made the mistake of trusting the forum representative of this casino who sent me a PM and said they reduced the withdrawal fees 0.000075 BTC. I didn't check myself. Lesson learned and I am never trusting them blindly again. I will check what it says on my end.
Correction: I can't even see anything on my account. I am just going to change it back to what it was before. I am sick and tired of these non-transparent platforms. I keep getting messages that I need to verify my identity. I should remove it altogether.

Do you have any plan to add dPlay and Club Riches casino in the table.
Never heard of them. I don't plan to add them. I don't really have a good opinion about new casinos anymore.
2906  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Unstoppable wallet {User experiences} on: January 25, 2023, 05:46:25 PM
I own a de Googled Android phone.  My only app store is F-Droid, which only publishes fully Open Source applications.  Yes.  This means a LOT of the widely used applications can not be downloaded at all.
You can also download the APK file of Unstoppable Wallet from GitHub. I assume that would work even on your deGoogled phone. Or you can get it using a desktop machine and transfer it to your phone through cable, Bluetooth, or whatever.

Some applications replacing original apps for widely known services are very badly made.  Twitter clients replacing the original app for example.  Reddit clients too.  But I already got used to it.
Firefox is open-source. You could access your Twitter and Reddit accounts using Firefox without any app by just using the browser. But I am guessing your problem is with these platforms and not in the way you access them.

I wish it just showed more TX information.  Fee and Satoshi per vByte, number of Confirmations with a check mark instead of just a Confirmed / Unconfirmed status with no counting of Confirmations.  Inputs, Outputs and maybe other stuff.
Does the status of the transaction change to confirmed after the 1st block confirmation your transaction gets or does the app wait for 2, 3, or maybe more? Would be great if the numbers could be adjusted through the settings. At least then you would know the minimum number of confirmations the transaction has.

Currently, the only way you can see more information is by going to a Block Explorer yourself which to me makes no sense if you are running Unstoppable through Tor and want Privacy.
Use a blockchain explorer that works through TOR. I think blockchair does, but I am not sure.

I agree.  I am typically not THAT lazy to not care about backing up my Seed Phrase but now that you mentioned it, it is definitely an issue.  I still do not have my Seed Phrase backed up because I forget about it every time.  I believe all Wallets should have mandatory Seed Backup before you get to use it.  This is not only a preventive measure but also imposes a good education.  When the user downloads a Wallet the second time, they should already know they need a piece of clear paper and a pen.
That means you can even skip and ignore the warnings when you try to generate a new BTC address. I remember they ask you to make a backup first, but since you have avoided it and still used your wallet for transactions, they obviously don't ask you to reenter the words as proof they are backed up.
2907  Economy / Gambling / Re: ✅🍅 wintomato.com 🍅Dice 🍅 Slots 🍅 Sport Betting on: January 25, 2023, 05:20:18 PM
This user was actively conducting bot farming activities, we provided proves on that thread, furthermore he never came back
That happened a long time ago, and I don't really remember the specifics right now. But if I am not wrong, there is no mention of "bot farming activities", what they are, and why they are illegal in your TOS. You did say the player was part of a bot farm, but posted no proof of it.

If you don't mind, can you explain how bot farming activities look like?

even his Bitcointalk username was temporary
There is no such thing as temporary usernames on Bitcointalk. Newbies often create accounts, ask questions, get the answers they wanted, and disappear never to return again. It's the same thing for scam-related accusations.
2908  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Exodus wallet, Latest PC version 23.1.2. Bug or issue with my device? on: January 25, 2023, 05:06:31 PM
Out of curiosity, I tried checking out electrum and this is what happened
So it doesn't work there either. Maybe you or Windows updated the camera's drivers recently and the new ones aren't working properly. Access your Device Manager and see if you can manually update them from there. Alternatively, try to roll back to an older version if that button is clickable and allows you to do it.
2909  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Stack wallet for mobile? on: January 25, 2023, 04:53:45 PM
The point is you can create an online wallet, make a paper backup, but you still need to protect the paper backup just as you still protect the online wallet.
...
Won't you still protect online wallet?
I am not debating whether one should make a backup of their seed generated on a phone or not. You should, of course, do that. I got the impression that you tried to say that the seed on such devices is offline. That's why I commented that it wasn't created in such an environment and should, thus, not be considered as being offline and as safe as proper offline solutions. Assuming that your phone is infected with malware, your passphrase isn't going to help much either. Because it's again created on that same (potentially vulnerable) system.
2910  Economy / Gambling / Re: [Table] Withdrawal Fees and Withdrawal Amounts on Crypto Casinos on: January 25, 2023, 04:41:06 PM
We have just enabled deposits and withdrawals for Bitcoin, BUSD and USDC on the Binance Smart Chain network (BEP20), which means significantly lower fees for all forecasters!!!  Grin
It also means that players aren't withdrawing bitcoin, but a centralized token whose price is currently pegged to BTC. I have added the altcoins you sent to me via PM, and the new withdrawal fee number has also been adjusted.

Please don't quote my OP in the future. Just make a post or mention my name. Look how unnecessarily big your post is, and it makes the page look ridiculous. In fact, I would appreciate if you could edit the post and remove the quote.

Thanks!
2911  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: I found a paper wallet on a beach ... seriously on: January 24, 2023, 05:43:06 PM
People make mistakes, and I'm certainly not expecting everyone to be a security expert. When I make a mistake in life, which is inevitable, I hope someone will be willing to help rather than to exploit that for personal gain.
That's the right attitude and message. Bitcoin and crypto have enough scams on their plate already to turn away many people from trying it out of fear. On top of that, if the community is lurking and waiting to strike the moment they see a mistake, we don't really deserve the good that comes with Bitcoin. Then we shouldn't be surprised if bitcoiners are talked about in a bad light.
2912  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Alternative methods to transfer BTC from an old Coinbase multisig Vault on: January 24, 2023, 05:26:39 PM
For the next steps, you are going to need to start importing these keys in to a wallet or other software. Doing this on a computer with internet access brings risk of your keys being compromised. Do you have a spare computer or laptop which you can disconnect and do the next steps offline?
That would be the best, but OP shouldn't reconnect that other device to the internet until (hopefully) the coins have been recovered and moved elsewhere. Alternatively, a Live OS could be used and booted from USB. But the Live OS shouldn't save anything to a local storage to prevent leakage.
2913  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the core dev team plan to fight Quantum computers? on: January 24, 2023, 05:10:26 PM
<Snip>
I have been alive on this planet long enough to see where most of the money goes. And it doesn't go to the betterment of the planet. It isn't invested in stopping hunger or preventing war, but the opposite. Scientists built the nuclear bomb as well. The money that is invested in war and warfare could prevent hunger worldwide, but that is not what the 'good guys' need or long for. If you believe someone will build quantum computers to make your life better, you will be surprised.
2914  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Stack wallet for mobile? on: January 24, 2023, 04:58:04 PM
But I'd avoid ChangeNOW or other instant exchange services if possible since they can flag your transaction and ask KYC at any given time.
I don't want to sound like I am protecting instant exchanges or any other exchanges for that matter, but for the accuracy of the information, it's not the exchange that blocks your coins and asks for KYC. It's one of their trading platforms they work with to facilitate those swaps. ChangeNOW just informs you, hi KYC is necessary because that's what their partners asked them. For an instant swap to happen, multiple transactions take place in the background that the end-user doesn't see and doesn't need to know about.

Transaction 1: Your deposit to the swaps platform.
Transaction 2: The swaps platform transfers coins to a liquidity provider.
Transaction 3: The liquidity provider exchanges coin A to coin B.
Transaction 4: Coin B is sent back to the swaps platform.
Transaction 5: The swaps platform sends the coins to your address.

I am not sure about the last step. Maybe the 3rd-party sends the coins directly to your address. Anyways, there could actually be more transactions if you are exchanging two unknown altcoins one for the other and there is no such trading pair available. In that case, the instant exchange would first need to have its partners swap the unknown coin for something familiar like BTC, USDT, or ETH, for example, and then get the asset you want in the following transaction.

In fact, that's the same way that swaps work on some of the services on Ledger Live or Trezor Suite. If you open the native apps, read the TOS, or initiate a crypto to crypto swap, you will come across information that 3rd-parties might ask you to verify your identity. Sometimes it works without it, other times it doesn't. It probably depends on the amount and the history of the coins.

Including passphrase to generate different keys can be of people's preference, just like I have implied before, not using it can make some people to feel insecure as they keep their seed phrase offline...
It's a hot wallet that is connected to the internet. Thus, the seed phrase is not offline despite being written down and stored on paper/steel/some other way.
2915  Other / Meta / Re: How many forum members do you know by real name? on: January 24, 2023, 04:35:17 PM
I can neither confirm nor deny that I know any member real name.
Good. Have your lawyer contact mine and let them work it out amongst themselves. Grin

I am not surprised that over 40% of the users voted for not knowing a single person on this forum by name. But what is surprising to me is that almost 1 in 4 members know 3-5 forum users. That is currently the second most chosen answer.
2916  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Exodus wallet, Latest PC version 23.1.2. Bug or issue with my device? on: January 23, 2023, 07:02:12 PM
Any chance Exodus doesn't have permission to access your camera?
You may need to go to your OS settings and turn on camera access for Exodus.
Good idea, however Windows is weird with these app permissions. By default, they should be on for everything that requires camera access to work properly. There is an on/off switch to allow Microsoft Store apps to access the camera, and there is a second on/off switch to allow 3rd-party desktop apps. The weird part is you get a list of 3rd-party desktop apps that can access the camera, but you can't manually allow or disallow the permissions. I am looking at my system right now, and Telegram and Zoom are two apps that have access to the camera. I can't remove these permissions from the systems settings menu. I can only turn off access for all apps on the list. I guess the better place to check is the settings of Exodus wallet to see how it's set up there.
2917  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Unstoppable wallet {User experiences} on: January 23, 2023, 06:15:21 PM
Look at this data usage, it's just Bitcoin and ethereum, from play store review I gather zcash sync takes 3 gb.
The size of the apk file is about 70 MB. So if you use this wallet for a bunch of altcoins, you might soon run out of internal storage on your phone. Having to download 3 GB on my phone to work with just one asset is far from optimal. Especially if we consider how many regions still don't have quality and affordable mobile data tech. Zcash has a relatively big block size plus a block time of just over 1 minute. That could be the reason for the storage requirements. Still, Unstoppable Wallet isn't exactly a light client.
2918  Economy / Gambling / Re: What do you appreciate more Desktop or Phone on: January 23, 2023, 05:57:51 PM
I understand that some desktop games are better graphics and game features compared to the mobile format of the same game, and even the screen resolution of desktop games is different and more comfortable for gaming. But mobile games are more friendly most especially in outdoor games mobile device is easy to carry about and because of that comfort, they attract more users than desktop...
There is no doubt that phones are easier to play with if you are on the move. They are smaller, lighter, and fit into a pocket in contrast to laptops that need their own laptop case or a backpack. But seeing how big the displays on modern smartphones are becoming, soon they won't fit into pockets either.

Cross-device compatibility is a factor worth considering. Some games are just not optimized well enough for comfortable mobile gaming. They work great on desktop systems, but can't present the same quality on phones. Luckily, the whole point of casino games isn't to enjoy splendid graphics and the details in the surroundings.
2919  Other / Meta / Re: Binance pays Google Ads with the word "bitcointalk" on: January 23, 2023, 05:48:04 PM
If Microsoft partners with chatGPT or Microsoft buys it I think they will replace it with bing or they will make it a paid software.
ChatGPT was never meant to be a free service indefinitely. It's currently free because it's still in development and they are testing and configuring it to produce the best possible results. I think their plan was to keep it in this stage until March.

Google's search engine business will be harmed by that but I think not everyone will search on chatGPT or use it. Lets see what will be googles reaction.
Google has already reacted by instructing their engineers to focus on the creation of their own AI technology solutions. Considering what a budget this company has, it might become spectacular. More competition also equals to more choices for end-users and more affordable prices for businesses who can benefit from this tech. And with that, I don't mean posting with it on Bitcointalk. Grin
2920  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the core dev team plan to fight Quantum computers? on: January 23, 2023, 05:36:29 PM
May be they don’t need to fight it because who would want to invest in QC just to break the keys?
That could be just a small part of the negative consequences of quantum computers. Bitcoin and the whole crypto ecosystem isn't that big in comparison to traditional finance. Bitcoin's encryption could be broken, but so could every other fiat systems we use. Think about your online banking and the services you use in that sector. The encryptions on your credit/debit cards. Now imagine they all become unsafe and useless. It's still just theory. But surely something worth thinking about. Someone somewhere always works on putting theory into practical use.
