To be honest, I wasn't waiting for St Etienne to be eliminated and relegate to the second league today. Auxerre played big in this round to guarantee their place in the Ligue 1. They got earlier in the second half but St Etienne answered in the last fifteen minutes. After having no goal in extra time, we had an exciting penalty shoot-outs section. St Etienne had a very bad start already by missing the first one. They still scored the remaining but couldn't prevent Auxerre from scoring all of the five. I really appreciate Auxerre in this and good luck to them here.
It is actually sad to see them lose like this. I mean they obviously did not do well in the league this season but I thought they were going to win the match, cause it was the deciding match to stay in the league. Yes, I also agree that the start of the penalty shootout was bad for them. I always think when it goes to the penalty shootout it becomes a luck factor for both teams. And starting the shootout by missing the first one is obviously not ideal and they paid the price for it. Congratulations to Auxerre, I hope they will be able to prove why they are promoted. |

It was just unbelievable, looking at the journey of Gujarat Titans. Since they were a new franchise, they had to start everything from the scratch. While the other franchises had the option to retain players, the Titans had to contend with players who were released from the other franchises (such as Hardik Pandya, Mohammed Shami and Rashid Khan. But it is another fact that many of these "released" players performed exceptionally well for their new franchise. Lucknow was also a new team, and they did pretty well to reach the knockout phase.
Hardik Pandya's performance as a captain and as an all-rounder has been proven after this win. I was going through the overall stats of the GT team in this season of IPL and found Pandya's contribution as a batter and bowler has been incredible. Whether you talk about his batting average or bowling average he is in the top 3. GT being a brand new team and winning the title for the first time is an achievement. Overall this team has been consistent with their performance throughout this season. Hardik Pandya's captaincy and performance are both very commendable. He has maintained the continuity of his performance throughout the season. At the same time, the management of Gujarat has been able to form a stable team. Their batsmen were good enough. The squad consisted of experienced players like Wriddhiman Saha, Gill, Wade, and Miller. At the same time, there were experienced bowlers like Mohammad Shami, Rashid Khan, Ferguson and Pandya. Having a stable squad has made Gujarat champions. |

I personally believe that it would have been better for Sadio Mane to stay in Liverpool but I believe he thinks differently. Now I obviously think that he will do well in Bayern Munich but he might take a little time to get settled. I don't think Cristiano Ronaldo will be playing for Bayern Munich. Sadio Mane was the player that started the building of this new Liverpool side that are capable of winning what ever tournaments they're involved in. I feel he's undervalued at Liverpool just because Mo Salah is banging the goals. The media doesn't stress out enough how vital Mane has been to the Liverpool side therefore it's understandable if he wants to leave. I would have preferred him moving to Spain instead of Germany. There isn't much challenge in Germany as the league is basically dominated by one side. In Spain he'll get more attention unlike Germany, and would be favoured to win more personal medal. Mane played a huge role in both defeat of Egypt in the AFCON tournament and World cuo qualifiers, and even if he had won the champion league i doubt he'll be ahead of Mo Salah in the race to the balon d'Or. I agree with you. Neither the Liverpool management nor the media gave Mane enough respect. I will not say that he has been devalued. But we always think of Mohamed Salah as a star and talk about his performance. But Mane's big role behind Liverpool's remarkable performance is one that we rarely discuss. I would be happy if Mane joins any of the La Liga teams. It is almost certain that Bayern Munich will win the Bundesliga title. So I would be happy if Mane joined Serie A or La Liga. But if we think about it, I think we will see that Real Madrid is the more deserving team to win the Champions League just because of the teams that they had to beat on the way to the finals. Real Madrid was just lucky. Liverpool would have won that match with a very high goal margin without the heroic performance of Thibaut Courtois. Except Real Madrid reinforce its team with new young signings, I doubt if they can make it to the Champions league Semi-Finals with its current squad next season.
It's too trivial to call Real Madrid lucky. Ancelotti plays the antithesis of Liverpool's tactics. Demonstrating that a small amount of momentum can beat the team that has the upper hand. I feel GT has an upper edge considering their overall consistent performance in this season.
I also think that Gujarat Titans will have a better performance in the finals against Rajasthan Royals. Rajasthan Royals have made some questionable decisions in this IPL and certainly not going to help them. Questions will be raised if they play Parag in the finals. We all know he is not contributing to the team at all. On the other hand, Gujarat Titans have been playing really well and playing as a team. That has certainly helped them reach the finals of the IPL. I expect a good performance from Gujarat Titans and I believe they should be the winners. They honestly deserve to win this IPL. |

The disappointments continue for Liverpool. I thought they could win the champions league final. In fact, they started the final game well. Real Madrid had almost no position. In the second half, Real Madrid beat Liverpool out of the cup with a nice goal and became the champion. The last thing they wanted was two things. They did not win any championships. They tried to win the league and lost at the last minute. They tried to win the league, it still didn't work.

One thing I don't know about Rajasthan Royals is that they persist with non-performing players without any logic. The perfect example is that of Riyan Parag. No one knows why he is in the team. He has scored a total of 168 runs in 16 matches at an average of 16.80. And he has bowled a total of 4 overs, conceding 59 runs, while taking one wicket (economy rate of 14.75 runs per over). On top of that, he has behaved like a monkey on the field, abusing the opponent players. And yesterday also, he dropped some easy catches.
Well, I believe it is the IPL and there is certainly a little bit of politics going on. Otherwise, I don't see any reason why he should be in the team still after doing quite badly in this IPL. But, another question is do they have a good enough substitution for this player? That is exactly how I see it too. There are great teams again this year and it will certainly be exciting to see which teams will fight for promotion and which will fight against relegation. The match schedules for next season will be published at 17th of June. That way this season has turned out to be really great and even though it was a little expected that Schalke and Werder Bremen is going to do very well in this season I think there was still a lot of suspense almost till the end of the season. In the next season, I am hopeful about Hamburger, Darmstadt, and St Pauli. I believe these teams had genuine chances and they will also play well in the next season. It will be also interesting to see how the teams that have been promoted to the Bundesliga do in the next season. |

When it comes to Napoli's performance during this season, I must admit that they did a quite good job for some time. I even started to think that they were one of the biggest candidates to win the league title. But all of a sudden, their performance level started to drop down very sharply and they started to get very poor results. They gave up very early I mean. Even if they don't become the champion team, I would expect a bigger competition from them at least. But we never know how strong they will come back next season.
Yes, I also remember that they played really well in the first quarter of the season but they have lost their way since and never really recovered. I also thought they had a very good chance of doing something great this season but at that time Juventus came back in form and they had a lot better competition. If they could have held on to their position from that time I think they had a chance of finishing a lot higher compared to what they have done.
