2921  Other / Off-topic / Re: How to lure Satoshi out in the open [cannot possibly fail] on: October 29, 2012, 05:35:28 PM
The genesis block's private key is owned by no one.  There never really was a private key for it, AFAIK.

Very cool!
2923  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [Ann] CoinDL - Buy downloads with Bitcoin: Now with Pay What You Want + YouTube on: October 28, 2012, 07:21:51 AM
Hi, just a heads up, you might want to be careful, some of the record companies are targeting a business that's exactly like this. Its the only one out, other than this bitcoin one that I know of. Basically its the same thing, users upload music they own, and others buy it from them, they have a system in place that the user has to install software on their computers, and if they sell something it automatically makes it wipe it from their property. Except CD's obviously.

Even with a system like that in place, they're still being sued. The labels are claiming you cant re-sell digital products that you own.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-19842851
My understanding was that CoinDL would only allow the creators or copyright owners of the materials in question to sell said materials.  If that's not the case... BRB, going to go upload the whole internets for sale.
2924  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Blockchain.info acount hacked while using yubikey.... on: October 27, 2012, 07:54:55 PM
Does the online backups of your wallet need the MtGox Yubikey to be decrypted?  If not maybe some hacked your email, Dropbox or Google Drive?  Otherwise the thief must be someone you know.
+1 to this...
2925  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: bitfloor needs your help! on: October 27, 2012, 07:29:17 PM
I really don't understand roman's behaviour. From what perspective does it make sense to stop communicating like this? Is he just disillusioned?
That's my guess.  Heck, if I had $250k that I had to recover through monthly profits in the 4 digits, I'd probably be pretty discouraged as well.

It's really, really sad.
2926  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Change the Bitcoin addresses on: October 27, 2012, 07:54:53 AM
short-addresses: we have firstbits which doesnt rely on 3rd party services and is proof - read up on that
+1 - it works well.  I know that an address I own is always easily within reach as long as I have an internet connection, because the firstbits are incredibly easy to remember.  No need for QR codes or hand-typing wallets or any other shenanigans.
2927  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How will ASIC miners match up against coinlab if they sign some top MMOGs? on: October 26, 2012, 11:31:29 PM
To definitively answer OP's question:

If we assume 100,000 of the average gamer's GPUs to be equal to the current network hashrate (23TH/s), and we estimate ASICs will increase that difficulty to 250TH/s (a good average of the various estimates being thrown around), then we can conclude it would take 1,087,000 gamer's GPU's to equate to the network hashrate after the ASIC bump.

But, that would assume 24/7 usage.  Most gamers don't run their games 24/7 - maybe 2 hours a day, on average.  Now you need 13M GPU's.  But the hashrate while gaming drops by half, typically.  Now you need 26M GPU's.

Hmmm... well good luck with that coinlab!

Honestly, I think it is an awesome project, and I hope it is somehow successful.  Wink
2928  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: SatoshiDice - rolled back transactions on: October 26, 2012, 10:40:27 PM
I still don't understand why there are blocks with 10-20 transactions when there are 500+ transactions with fees waiting to be included. Why the hell pools don't include them?
Because larger blocks increase propagation time, increasing the risk that the pool's block ends up orphaned, decreasing the overall pay for the miners on average.  No one wants to be part of a pool with a large orphan block rate.

If I was running a pool, I probably wouldn't include transactions without a fee at all.  Any increase in propagation time is less potential payout for my mining minions.
2929  Other / Politics & Society / Is Obama or Romney more likely to support Bitcoin? on: October 26, 2012, 09:35:43 PM
I doubt support by either of them is likely, but relative to each other, which one would be MORE likely to support Bitcoin, and why?

My bet is on Romney - he's a businessman, and, I think, can understand and appreciate some of the efficiency aspects of Bitcoin better than Obama could.  Businessmen are always looking for efficiency, ways to cut expenses, etc.

Then stop reading......
Fair enough, I shall.
2931  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Obama or Romney ? on: October 26, 2012, 09:32:26 PM
Voting Democrat in a red state is effectively a wasted vote, so I was curious as to why you would do such a thing.
Ehhh, voting Democrat in a blue state is effectively a wasted vote as well.  The only states where voting makes a difference is in the "battleground" states.
2932  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: is butterfly labs mining with those ASICs at the moment? on: October 26, 2012, 09:26:27 PM
Look you might not understand how the law is in this manor.
A merchant can use the Funds to purchase Materials to produce the product.
They can not use the funds to create, or buy equipment to make the product.
Like I said that would be called a Investment. I will list my demands like I do for any company.
1) what is the product. Check BFL stated that
2) what does it do? They got that too
3) will we be updated with progress. X on that one
4) will I have my question answered with honest answers. X on that one too.
5) Shipping range. If you miss it tell me why. X they will not do that either.

I do not care about the Die sizes or the actual size of the product. I care about how they treat me and the community as a whole, which is like shit. I have never seen a rep from any company that sells things come on to a forum and chastise customers for asking questions. You all follow this company like they are innocent and their behavior is justified. I think the fear is something will go wrong and they will split with your funds, and yet again the koolaid drinkers will then be pissed. Now what if Avalon comes to market first, BFL has now caused you to lose out on a chance to buy a working model of a product.... how would that make you feel? I am sure they will get you your Asic's but the question is when, and how long are you going to let them draw you out?

I could only expect this from the people that advertise for them.....
You are talking about YOUR demands and what YOU care about.  I don't care about what you care about - I care about what I care about.  So why are you still spouting on about this?  We get it - you don't like BFL, and you won't order from them.  So what?

If Avalon comes to market first?  Well, then I made the wrong bet.  I would blame no one but myself for putting my money into the wrong company.  It is not your responsibility, the government's responsibility, or anyone else's responsibility to "protect" me from what I do with my funds and whom I choose to trust with it.  If I want to put money into a pre-order with a months-long wait, that is my choice.
2933  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Obama or Romney ? on: October 26, 2012, 09:08:49 PM
Voting for Obama.

Mind if I ask why? Especially if you live in a "red" state?

I support his views on how we should plan for the future and now just for now. I like that he supports green energy, woman rights to be equal, end war, free healthcare. I like the idea when I was in Russia I could go see a doctor for free, right now I cannot afford health insurance and I cannot see a doctor.  Undecided
I know some ppl don't like him because they blame him for ruining the economy, but after what has been happening I believe collapse was inevitable.

I do not understand what do you mean by "red" state?

They do use a system like that, thats why they visit certain states only when they campaign. Those states have more potential points so they can win the game.
I guess I mean when you actually go inside and you mark points for each candidate.
You don't get to see a doctor for free in Russia, you get to see a doctor, and the taxpayers get to foot the bill for you.  If that's the sort of system you want, then vote for it.  It's not the sort of system I want, and I wish the people who like that sort of system would simply move to a country that already has it than ruin one of the few that doesn't.
2934  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MTGOX ordering DDOS ATTACKS!?!?!?!!? on: October 26, 2012, 09:07:19 PM
That's one hell of an accusation to make without evidence, and making it without proving it can only damage BTC-e's reputation.

Explain yourself BTC-e support.
Seriously, that could be grounds for a lawsuit under slander/libel.
2935  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: is butterfly labs mining with those ASICs at the moment? on: October 26, 2012, 09:05:16 PM
Read the other posts it will tell you why I care, Why do you care that I car? Why do you keep responding? Why are you on this forum? what are you motives?

See how those types of questions go....

I am a consumer I have rights I used my rights and the koolaid drinkers are pissed.

what did I tell you about your opinion before?  squeet keep repeating it in your head.
So tell me then, when was the last time you preordered an item?  Did the vendor paid you interest on the funds you paid to them?  Or did they cancel your order after you made such an absurd demand?
2936  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Obama or Romney ? on: October 26, 2012, 08:57:48 PM
Voting for Obama.

But isn't american voting system is kind of screwed up. They should have a scoring system, where you score every candidate and then the person with most scores win.
If you mean scoring in the same sense that a glassworker does, then I'm all for it!
2937  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Marriage, be strict, or be out of it. on: October 26, 2012, 08:56:58 PM
Marriage is ultimately a religious act, brought over into the secular world.  I don't really care if people want to called themselves married or not - it makes no difference to me, and if it makes them happy, then all power to them.
2938  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BTC price going down on: October 26, 2012, 08:43:37 PM
Many of the exchanges have had currency supplies shut off recently.  Lots of deposit methods that were available a week or two ago are no longer available.  This leads to a lack of capital inflow from the fiat side, but with people still wanting to sell here and there, the price must decrease to meet the lower demand of buys.

That said, coinbase.com's announcement should help within a few days.  Wink
2939  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: is butterfly labs mining with those ASICs at the moment? on: October 26, 2012, 08:40:50 PM
If buy (a) at price X
You get (a) 5 years down the road it still valued at price X.
In 5 years I used you X to make XXXX and then sell you your X back.
You made no return off the money you LENT to me.
If I loaned you money for (b) and you payed me (b) with interest then you made a return.
If you think BFL did not use some of the money for Capital Investments you are slow.
You gave them money for a product, not to buy machines to make the product or pay someone to invent it.
If thats what they wanted you should have Invested with them.
You're still COMPLETELY missing the point.

I KNOW FULL WELL that this is a PREORDER.  I DO NOT expect to receive interest on the money used for my PREORDER.  If I am ok with this, WHY DO YOU CARE?
