2922  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Why a need to enter password to get a new address? on: October 05, 2011, 10:23:16 PM
It's called a label, not a password so you know WHO is sending you coins. Unless you are using v 0.4.0 and it actually does require a password.
2923  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New Ixcoin fork -> I0coin on: October 05, 2011, 10:18:04 PM
Anyone have a link to the windows binary?
2924  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi's 20,000 BTC? on: October 05, 2011, 06:21:23 PM
There's a small group of early adoptors though, who all have 300k+ bitcoins

It does not appear from the video that there is any early adopter holding a huge amount of Bitcoins.
Afaik, satoshi has 1.6 million bitcoins.
2925  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGMINER CPU/GPU miner overclock monitor fanspeed in C linux/windows/osx 2.0.5 on: October 03, 2011, 08:04:38 PM
So, i tried compiling on mingw32 and

Quote
In file included from sigaction.c:21:0:
./signal.h:616:3: error: expected specifier-qualifier-list before 'uid_t'
./signal.h:659:1: error: conflicting types for 'restrict'
./signal.h:659:1: note: previous definition of 'restrict' was here
sigaction.c:130:58: error: expected ';', ',' or ')' before 'act'
sigaction.c:84:1: warning: 'sigaction_handler' defined but not used

This on windows. The configure i use is

Quote
CFLAGS="-g -O3 -Wall -msse2 -march=amdfam10 -msse4a -mtune=amdfam10 -mabm -co
mbine -funroll-all-loops -ffast-math -fprefetch-loop-arrays -ftree-parallelize-
loops=4 -IC:/APP/include -IC:\MinGW\msys\1.0\home\curl\include\curl" LDFLAGS="-
LC:/APP/lib/x86 -LC:\MinGW\msys\1.0\local\lib\libcurl.a" ./configure
and then just make and i get that error.
2926  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANNOUNCE] Tenebrix, a CPU-friendly, GPU-hostile cryptocurrency on: September 30, 2011, 09:23:38 AM
Just to ask, is only minerd allowed? Can we not use CGMiner? And is the GPU protection based on the time between the getwork and the hash submitted? I tried using miner'd 4way algo and every hash got rejected.
2927  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / My 5870 died... on: September 27, 2011, 09:46:02 PM
So, i was mining on my 5850 and gaming on my 5870. My monitor suddenly goes black, system locked up...i rebooted, thinking it was the 5850, which was damaged from my earlier bitcoin days, but it wasn't. The 5870 was the one that died.

Sure the room was hot, but the card was at stock, if not, then at 860/1200. And the fan was at 77% and i was playing Counter-Strike where GPU usage was like 16-20% tops. But, no matter what i did, even after a reboot the 5870's fan was just constantly at 100% probably indicating it's dead.

Thank god i still have warranty, but i have no idea IF they will even accept, it(no mention of mining ofc, just heat).
2928  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [Solved]Alternative solution without using junctions w/ bitcoin client 0.4. on: September 24, 2011, 09:52:47 PM
Why did you instantly assume it was an insult? Now you have insulted me!
2929  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: What CPU to choose for my GPU? on: September 24, 2011, 03:02:54 PM
I can tell you, if you are getting an AMD processor, it must be faster than the Phenom II 955 cause as of now, this CPU even at 3.4Ghz bottlenecks the 5870(at stock clocks).

whoot? but how is this https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=34591.msg430737#msg430737 possible? and all the other numerous sempron 140 rigs?
I meant this for gaming, it's no trouble to get a cheap sempron, but if the PC was ever to be used for anything other than mining, that CPU will just not do.
2930  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: This makes absolutely no sense. on: September 24, 2011, 02:37:16 PM
Remove the <>s.

You are awesome. I been ripping my hair our out for the last few hours.

Could anyone edit that wiki to be a little bit more specific rather than jamming up the forums in which I prefer not to do. Like, do not use the brackets and to use the target section of a shortcut to the bitcoin client.
It's common sense NOT to use <>. Obviously it was a placeholder for the directory path.
2931  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Took all day to download blockchain on netbook computer. on: September 24, 2011, 02:35:21 PM
Cool thanks.  I could have sworn when I redownloaded the blockchain a few days ago it only took a couple hours.  Undecided
Or you could have downloaded a zip of the blockchain and averted this whole mess.

2933  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What.CD now Accepting Bitcoin Donations on: September 21, 2011, 08:33:10 PM
How do I get an invite for this site?

what.cd is difficult to get into by average means, but if you can pass the test you get 1 free invite. fail 3 times and you get banned.

but in terms of all private trackers, they are easy to get into.
I have a few connections, so i can get invited. I mean, i was able to get into TorrentLeech and SceneAccess.
2934  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: PoolServerJ - Tech Support on: September 20, 2011, 07:41:57 PM
I am currently 'testing' the latest 0.3.0rc1. The first thing i notice is the CPU usage. I am running in pushpoold compatability. So why this CPU usage? Pushpoold rarely used any CPU but PJS uses one full core.

The second thing i notice is that PSJ inserts shares quite a bit slower than pushpoold. And what it affects is the speed counted on my frontend. I am currently getting 40mh/s less detected in the frontend thereby people WILL lose coins.
2935  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Deepbit versus Bitclockers on: September 20, 2011, 01:18:44 AM
Think about it, deepbit finds blocks much faster than anyone else. When they find a block, your speed is recounted, and because the shares are still fresh. i.e 15 minutes or more must pass, your true speed is not shown.

2937  Economy / Economics / Re: Why there was a Bitcoin hype on: September 18, 2011, 04:46:28 PM
Well you've got it all wrong. 50% of the price jump was due to none other than OCN i.e overclock.net. That was the day I and many others learned about Bitcoin's existence.

The thread got over 150 pages in just under an hour.

2940  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What I have spent my 40.5 BTC Bitlotto winnings on so far... on: September 14, 2011, 11:42:38 AM
Nice...i always wanted to spend ~250 just for food to see what it's like...15 pizzas or so would've been nice.
