2941  Economy / Speculation / Re: What are the FACTS with the China transactions ban? on: December 17, 2013, 08:45:53 PM
i dunno, but i'm boycotting all products made in china now and i encourage everyone else to do the same.

In Europe that means mass nude starvation.

In The Glorious United States of America it means back to the stone age since every tech product has a 99% chance of having a chinese chip Cheesy

On that note will bitcoin ASICs be affected by the China-Bitcoin debacle?
2942  Economy / Speculation / Re: most possible reason for china "ban" on: December 16, 2013, 11:39:52 PM
Realistically we want governments to oppose bitcoin believe it or not. Then we can have a nice contest over which is better, fiat or bitcoin.

No we don't, if they oppose it hard enough they will forbid it and we will turn into chinese panic sellers.
The fact that one is better than the other is a non-argument. Since when are governments rational when it comes to money.

China has the added censorship which can take down bitcoin like a porn-blocker at your company. Other countries lack this technology Smiley
2943  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will it hit $1000 again? on: December 16, 2013, 07:38:04 PM
Been holding out for it to get back up to $1000 USD again. Anyone think it will get back up there any time soon? Any guesses?

You in a hurry? Bitcoin is the fastest "stock" in the world (in my opinion)

Everytime bitcoin spikes like a boss it comes down then stabilized for a few months and goes "TO DA MOON!" again.
Now China is bailing out due to it's censorship or government influence which is understandable. We need to buy all their cheap coins so that's no problem.

We know there is a bitcoin conference in India so who knows maybe this is a perfect launch for Indian bitcoiners.

It can go two ways fast so hold on to your BTC and hope for the best Smiley

GET YOUR CHEAP BTC BEFORE THEY GO +$1000 !!!!
2949  Economy / Speculation / Re: To all panic sellers: on: December 15, 2013, 02:42:45 AM
I agree on this. I got my  coins at 100 USD and saw them grow to 1200 USD so I am a winner here.
People panic selling because they bought at 1000 USD each coin and dont know if they will loose it all
should not got the coins in the first place.

It is frustrating to me when I see comments like this one.  Yes, congratulations, you were an early adopter who made money.  However, if everyone since then loses money, Bitcoin is done, finished.

Buying at $100 makes you an early adopter?  In July, when bitcoin was $100, people felt like they had missed the boat and were hesitant to buy.  Furthermore, many people who purchased coins during the April run-up were at a loss until this October, but look at them now.  The exact same thing happened to people who bought coins during the 2011 run-up (but they had to wait 2 years to see a profit).

Don't you see?  You are still an early adopter.  These booms and crashes will continue till either (a) bitcoin is dead, or (b) bitcoin is a major global currency with a value of $100,000+.

Hold tight to your coins, learn more about bitcoin, and try to contribute in any way you can to help advance this game-changing technology.

2950  Economy / Speculation / Re: Swiss vote Currency v Commodity on: December 15, 2013, 02:40:45 AM
Does it matter if it's a currency or commodity?
As long as you can trade it and use it to buy things it doesn't really matter.
Only if a government forbids companies to accept commodity it will be a problem. (I believe this to be the heart of the discussion)

2955  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: OMFG!!!!! Cryptsy Down AGAIN!!!!!!!! 502 BAD GATEWAY on: December 13, 2013, 12:43:58 AM
Bad gateway happens to all exchanges. I believe it's due to DDOS attacks from botnets which is hard to prevent unless you have multiple servers in multiple datacenters.
Also Cryptsy has way more altcoins than any other exchange which makes them more succeptible to crappy coded altcoins.
I use Cryptsy for more than a year and yes they have quite some slowdown issues but it's getting better every day in my opinion.

If you don't like an exchange go to another one.

With the growth of cryptocurrencies all will have problems because most started off as a dude with a single server.
Now they are forced to become companies with a good scalable IT infrastructure. This takes time so cut them some slack.

2957  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What will be the best Altcoin? on: December 13, 2013, 12:20:18 AM
I think you're right that OP meant the title to be "what should we invest in" so now I'm off topic...

I think the question "What will be the best Altcoin" is very interesting though. I think it's determined by what makes a good currency, I think that's defined by basic utility (though not much, a currency is helped by, but not defined by its basic utility), scarcity, durability (keeps its value), and liquidity. Other things like fungibility, transportability are roughly identical between cryptocurrencies. Durability and liquidity are also basically impossible to predict, but they probably are influenced by the two other properties I mentioned, scarcity but moreso basic utility.

Looking at the best altcoin based on utility is a good way to measure it's success.
It's true that with cryptocurrencies we're not only looking at the value of a coin but also at the total banking system which comes with the coin. The total system must be well balanced and that balancing will make it succeed.

I think we are still in the very early adopter stage so it's hard to predict which will succeed.
As you stated most currencies are based on each other with minor and some fundamental changes.
I think the answer will become clear when some coins have been fully mined. What will happen will it become more durable? or will it die because mining is the most fun part?

2960  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What will be the best Altcoin? on: December 12, 2013, 10:31:39 PM
The poll is biassed in my opinion or the thread has been poorly researched.
The best altcoin is the one that gives most value either by pump and dump or by stability.

There are many coins that can make it. No one knows. There are many coins that give good value if pumped and dumped.

If you look at the coin market cap for most adopted coin (http://coinmarketcap.com/) then Feathercoin is #10 whereas Worldcoin, Quarkcoin and Megacoin are higher yet not mentioned in this thread.

Pump and dump coins are not valuable in any real sense, they're just bubbles ready to burst, I don't know why you'd say that provides value. The winners in pump and dump are completely at the expense of the losers, no wealth has been created, the world is not a better place, and it doesn't even serve as a good medium of exchange...

EDIT: I guess the initial question is "what should we invest in" which is different from the topic of "what is the best altcoin" and I guess pump and dump could be a valid investment vehicle, albeit a very risky one, you never know if you're the *greatest* fool or not.

Yes the topic is "What is the best altcoin" that can be interpreted in many ways.
For me the best altcoin is the one I can earn money with.
Bubbles allow money to be made we all do it, also what is a bubble? Bitcoin is bubbling all the time is it wrong to invest in Bitcoin.

The topic title "what should we invest in" would better fit the purpose of the topic. I believe you want to know in which coin you would put your money for an extended period of time.

My definition of "Pump and dump" is mining a coin and trading it for LTC,BTC or whatever. This is risky but can yield good returns and sometimes you become an early adopter of newer coins. Worldcoin and Megacoin have been good for me and I hope my Emerald mining will be profitable too.

Fontas style "Pump and Dump" is market manipulation and is ofcourse a bad thing and extremely risky since you can't trust the guy organizing these pump&dumps.

And yes I'm a fool Cheesy
