Read my fucking posts before starting a holly war based on them, please!

I read your post mate, I quoted the bit that I thought was silly. I think we have different ideas about what constitutes efficiency.

In most engineering scenarios, (unless you're actually trying to generate heat Smiley) waste heat is an almost direct measure of inefficiency.

I would argue that since X11 earns me the same amount or more as scrypt or scrypt-n, while using half the power and running far cooler, it's much more efficient.

I'm sure improvements can be made to the X11 mining software to deliver more hash, but that doesn't automatically correlate to increased efficiency, which I would tie to £profit/kW. It's like overclocking your GPUs - when you do the math it's often not worth the increased power draw.

You do realize that cooler GPU means it's less effective to mine with a GPU and thus we practically waste our hardware resources, right...?

This is pure nonsense. Less effective than what? What are you practically wasting by mining DRK?

If you have a more profitable use for your hardware then go do whatever that is with it if you want.

It's like reinventing the stock market from scratch by filling an empty space with children.

Well put! Terminators vs toddlers...

Wish Mintpal would open up their API, but then as I said you don't know what advantages others have who've greased a few palms.

I guess you mean those happenings when you can't see any big orders on the tables but some people seem to exchange a lot of coins at progressively higher/lower prices until the price doubles/halves during a few minutes or hours and the volume shoots up into crazy heights?

Exactly. Do you have some explanations?

I suspect some API keys may be more equal than others, for a start.

BTW, nice price action going. A single 100 BTC buy wall on Cryptsy. Those are rarely 'real' so manipulation is abound. Grin

110 BTC already. What do you mean by 'Those are rarely real'?

You usually place an order like this when you want to sell a lot of coins (which you acquired earlier at a significantly lower price in relatively small chunks over a relatively long time) and buy only as little as possible when you accidentally get hit.

When you really want to buy 100 BTC worth of coins then you usually set up a bot which buys a lot of small chunks when the price is in your comfort zone (or you might do it manually if you have the time and patiance and you don't trust in bots).

Although I get this one, a lot of these market manipulation strategies frankly baffle me, but I just have to reassure myself that this is simply because I am sane.  Kiss

I have got to confess... it is a real pleasure seeing huge chunks of hash power enter the network, see the diff increase accordingly, hashrate leaves, diff immediately compensates.

Man, litecoin is so f*ked... let there be DARK !! Wink

Yeah, would take about 600 Titans to double the LTC total hash and completely drive off everyone else, then the Titan owners would briefly rejoice and mine loads of coins, which they could try selling to each other, because nobody else will want them, while gibbering about how they have "secured the network!" the price will plummet to zero

By this logic, BTC died a year ago. R.I.P. BTC and its $0 price.

That, or, mining is a tertiary part of the crypto system and 95% don't care.

Other people have other opinions, but yes, to me BTC is worthless and has failed when a handful of individuals own the network.

My only use for BTC is to buy DRK, which IF it remains decentralised will eclipse BTC within a few years. DRK solves the privacy problem that BTC has. LTC brings nothing to the table, it's completely superfluous without a huge decentralised base, which it's in the process of losing.

Others will post Youtube videos of Titan vs 12ga slug , Titan vs sledgehammer, Titan vs starving honeybadger, we'll find out if Titans blend, and some lucky Titans will find their way to museums of useless technology to be preserved forever as a testament to the perils of food additives and slack parenting.

why the pump?
Some taliban try to buy ak 47 ?

US Gov bought at 47 to siphon funds to Al Qaeda rebels in Syria

See?  Even the US government needs us!

Jokes aside, I envisage a day when Darkcoin (or something similar) and DarkSend are used by individuals but government departments and officials are forced to leave all their transactions on the public ledger for scrutiny by the citizens to ensure they are spending their citizens' money wisely and honestly. I won't be surprised if it's not this decade though

Probably end up the other way around.  Sad

edit: I envision a day when Darkcoin has been elided to just: Coin. As in, THE, ubiquitous, only. Us early supporters will probably have graduated off-planet by then though, for tax purposes.  Tongue

Heh, a 91 BTC buy wall is what, £25k or something? Peanuts. Wait till we get a couple of inches in the mainstream papers and real money moves in.

For any market maker, be it an exchange or whoever, the ability to curb wild swings of the price is VERY important.

Exchanges != market makers, and I don't care about the convenience of "market makers." Buyers and sellers make the market. If the price swings wildly then so be it. Exchanges should not be trying to control anything.

Items on exchanges don't sell out like on eBay, you can't compare that.

If no one is selling, no one can buy. Same thing. They might not run out, they'll just rise in price. And with enough BTC, you could absolutely buy up every DRK available on every exchange that sold it.

If you want to trade against fiat you need liquidity, or you get eaten by anybody who has it.

If you want to trade anything you need that item or the ability to pay the going rate for it. Not sure what your point is here.

Like a central bank, just like that.

Central banks and their idiot "market makers" are one of the reasons the world economy is down the shitter.

Any exchange that "needs" stockpiles of coins is fundamentally broken. Mt Gox for example.
2953  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: May 03, 2014, 08:57:18 PM
Is it really a good thing to have one guy owning 5% of the coin? Seems worrying. Hope it's an exchange or pooled investment address.

There are bigger whales -- at least one person with 300k and another with 200k and likely a few others. This one just happens to hold it in a single public key (which is generally bad practice).

Honestly I wouldn't worry about these large holdings. DRK doesn't have the liquidity to handle such large amounts so they'll be holding for a long time.

I might be overwhelmingly naive and optimistic, but perhaps its an exchange (BTC-e???) that is accumulating drk in order to introduce it and have the liquidity to support it...

NOW THAT WOULD BE SOMETHING!!!

If an exchange needs liquidity, it's doing it wrong or up to no good. They're not banks, they exist to swap money between customers and take a small cut of each trade, that's all, they shouldn't need stockpiles of whatever they list.

Oooh, its actually very important for an exchange to be able to provide enough liquidity on both sides of the book.
Otherwise they would be easy fodder for the sharks. Soros like.

The liquidity should come from the sellers having deposited whatever they are wanting to sell at the exchange. There is no good reason I can see for an exchange to need stock of its own.

That's like saying ebay needs their own stock of whatever people are selling on it.

A lot of people get 2.3Mh with their 280x's anyway, and your screenshots prove nothing.
Well, i imagined this kind of response, but i don't know what could prove i have done it without releasing the code. If you have any ideas, please tell me!

Release the code. Smiley

You'll get some donations. Nobody with a brain is going to pay you up front to run unaudited mining software.

I tried that before. Never got a penny. (my Protoshares miner is now used by several noirshares pools and i never seen a peny for it in donations).

I can't understand, too. What if sgminer developers started to ask money for bug fixes or new releases?

If you have made something nice because you are clever, share it with the rest. If you won't share it, after a while your 'fix' will be rediscovered by someone else who will share it.

If you want to make money like this, go to work for the fucking M$

Well, you are saying that i should help people make money (literally), by mining but that i should not get any money for it? really???!
No one will "rediscover" my "fix" for free either. This kind of improvement requires hard work and those who rediscover it will be willing to be rewarded for their work.

You are free to benefit from your own hard work by mining with your software yourself.

I'm not sure this is the right place to post it..

Yes, this is not the right place.

So could you please direct me to the right place?

thanks a lot.

Hi,

I'm not sure this is the right place to post it, but here it goes:

I made some speed improvements in the GPU miner listed on the first page. it is now 25% faster on my R9 280x (from 1.8Gh/s with sgminer to 2.3Gh/s with my miner). I am willing to either sell it or make it public to the community if i receive enough donations. Please send any offers by inbox.

Screenshots follow:

Password protecting the goddamn wallet on startup
would alleviate the sender-record problem at least.

I never understood why this is not standard.
I've been going on about this since page 600 and you're the only person who's noticed.  Cheesy

I'm not even sure what this means to be honest.  Are you saying you shouldn't need to manually encrypt wallet and add password, it should prompt for a new password as soon as the wallet launches for the first time?

Not the first time, because you haven't set a password yet, but if you've encrypted your wallet, it should ask you for a password subsequently, before opening up and allowing everyone and anyone to see full records of your transactions. Or copying your .dat and viewing everything you've done later.

You expect to have to enter a password to see your banking online, right? And your email, and your exchange accounts, and just about everything else, for good reason. For an "anonymous" coin, it's a baffling omission.
