2941  Economy / Speculation / Re: egold/gold BITCOIN exchange anyone? on: March 20, 2012, 02:52:04 PM
There is already coinabul, and sometime in the near future GLBSE will have gold backed assets trading on it.

Nefario.
nope i mean something like Mtgox

We were thinking of establishing a gold reserve where customers could buy certificates in a "pool". We already handle a private gold reserve, so the idea was to open it for the public and sell/buy shares of it for a fee, with an option of fabrication/delivery if the client wants. There are some licensing concerns on our jurisdiction that our legal team is working on. We'll see.

I would just love this so much. Don't forget the silver  Wink

I guess I see this as a big problem and many don't. It's crazy how people have sigs that say Deepbit the enemy of Bitcoin. When it is a official pool and right in our face
as open as can be with thousands of honest miners making up the hash rate. Yet we have a unknown miner with massive amounts of hash power that really can't be explained
not raising any real concern. I guess because he is unknown we have not right to question? Yet we will bash any legitimate pool that get to big.OK I'm lost someone who has been
here longer tell me why Deepbit is untrusted yet solo miner deserves all this respect for his operation?

Your problem is you seem to equate defending a persons rights, with supporting and respecting them and everything they do. They are nowhere near the same thing. Sure he's probably a douchebag stealing from grandmas via electricity bills, but probably isn't a good enough reason to violate his privacy or call for a lynch mob.

On another note, looks like we have a new ip doing no transaction blocks.

http://blockchain.info/blocks/95.172.9.82 <--- currently mining 0 tx blocks
http://blockchain.info/blocks/85.214.124.168 <---- mined 0 tx blocks from 03/17 - 03/19

Same ISP for both IPs

Someone interested the taking the time to draft a letter to report abuse? We can all copy it and send it in to them reporting that one of their users (or employees) is using their resources to abuse the Bitcoin network?

http://www.claranet.co.uk/about/contact-us.html  <---- Contact page

it may do nothing it all, but it may slow them down or disable them for awhile and it will certainly send the message that we as a community are watching and do not support what they are doing.

This on the other hand, is a reasonable course of action.

How is it not personal information to know what he is doing with his money/bitcoins? He's broken no laws (at least none I'm concerned with) and has just as much expectation to privacy as much as anyone else. I can understand wondering, but going so far as to think you deserve to know?

Hijacking others' hardware and stealing their electricity is fine for you? And doing that in order to steal boatloads of blocks from legit miners?
The guy is a fucking criminal that should be lynched a.s.a.p.

So having a large hashrate is a crime now? Last I heard people are innocent until proven guilty, finding out if he is breaking the law is someone else's job, and finding out the details of their finances is for them to do. That said, sure he's probably running a botnet, so send a letter about it to the appropriate legal agency if you want to do something about it. Doesn't mean you can violate his privacy.

I agree with you here, so we can ask MtGox: are those blocks being cashed out or not?

Without asking for name, surname, address and so on.

What makes you think you have the right to ANY transaction information on any customer?

I don't have any right, maybe we, as the bitcoin comunity community, have some more rights.

I don't know, we are here because we all like to know what's going on.

It seems to me that asking if some blocks have been cashed out is not asking for some personal info.

Next step could be asking mtgox if they're receiving BTC from the blocks mined by MM...

spiccioli

Is that really a road we want to go down?

BadBear,

90K USD/week can be sold on mtgox only, every other exchange can not handle such a high volume, so either we are concerned and we want to find out who he is or we can close this thread right now.

spiccioli

Right, but attempting to track people down by going through the exchanges is setting a bad precedent and something not a whole lot of people are going to support. And no I'm not going to close the thread because you had a bad idea and I don't like it.

No censorship. None.

Say that again after someone posts some child pornography photos. You need some kind of censorship in extreme cases

Not possible. I have images turned off. If somebody links to CP, the hosting server will be the perp.

Should rename the thread to How I got on the sex offenders list.

Don't have to no, I have too much to lose from gaining the govts attention though. Choose your battles wisely.
2951  Other / Off-topic / Re: Fiction novels on: March 18, 2012, 12:19:48 AM
I definitely will check for some of Vance's books next time I go the bookstore (every 6 months or so I pick up a large batch).

They're kind of hard to get in standard bookstores nowadays
(he really an old timer, started to write in the 50s or so).

Your best bet is to find a used sci-fi bookstore (and those are
also getting rare these days).

Amazon also  has a decent selection.

I live near a college town, and there is a huge used bookstore there, the size of a small warehouse with tons of used books/movies/games. Books usually range from 1.75-3.75. It's pretty hit or miss but I've found some good stuff there. I usually go there every few months to sell back the ones I'm done with, and get some more. Maybe I'll get lucky.  Wink

bitcoin.org should attempt to locate, archive, and host the older versions for posterity.

I agree, would be nice to see.

Here's a user tip, if someone posts a page of gifs, don't quote the entire freaking thing to complain about it.

It pisses me off because it hits close to home. I've had problems with employee theft in the past, so it really grinds my gears.

Anyone else noticed the % of people who just completed the 5 posts to get out of the Newbie section, and never post again? Then, why did they complete the 5 posts initially? Smiley

Not to say those who only post once outside of this section.

Maybe they were upset at the lack of a level up animation, and lack of talent trees.
2958  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Politics on: March 16, 2012, 09:18:58 PM
I don't fall in line perfectly with any party, but I vote Democrat usually. Clinton and Obama. First choice was solid, not sure about the latter. Republicans lost me with Bush, then Gore/Palin.

Libertarianism has its pros, but has its cons as well. They all do though.
