2961  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin ATM installed at Elon Musk’s Tesla Gigafactory on: October 12, 2020, 02:08:36 PM
This isn't a big news or something positive for bitcoin. Maybe this news can be used as a source for speculation, because US is already filled with the majority of the Bitcoin ATMs. More than 90% of ATMs installed till date are in USA. If Elon or Tesla has made its own product and installed in its factory or supplied out of USA then this could've been a big news in the cryptospace.
I tend to agree with this statement!

The fact that Elon Musk accepted the proposal or the one who initiated to let the other company install a Bitcoin ATM on their Gigafactory, it really means something. There was a theory that Elon Musk is Satoshi Nakamoto but that's proven yet. The moment that Elon Musk founded the Paypal, he really is capable to found Bitcoin, as well. It's just that, as Bitcoin is a decentralized one. No one has to be identified as the operator or else the vision will be broken, IMO.

The fact the Elon Musk also lets his people consider Bitcoin is something that is extraordinary. It means that Elon let his people take advantage of or take risk with it. But he has trust in it so it will be the first one. So, no surprise of this news but what ever the purpose is, still it's have a benefits to the Bitcoin.

2962  Economy / Speculation / Re: What could be the impact of the US election on currencies? on: October 12, 2020, 01:28:45 PM
Of course, it will! This is too self-explanatory anyway.

Two different leaders have two different perspectives, talent, skill, and knowledge with everything. They have different ideas when it comes to everything.
Economically, two of them have different ways on how to run a country's economics. It's just that, Trump already has more experience than Biden. But yes, it will definitely affect the cryptocurrencies slightly, this proven when Trump announce regarding his health condition.

Either Biden has a better strategy and will to improve their GDP, or Trump already learned lessons from his experience to execute it better if he wins. Let's see to it who's gonna win this presidential election.
2963  Economy / Economics / Re: Where the top world Elite Rich guys invest on: October 11, 2020, 04:01:00 PM
In my experience and as a personal opinion, there are four things rich people invest their wealth that makes them wealthier.

These are:
Arts: Why? Art is indeed lucrative, has a value that would only require small space to keep it. One piece of art might cost 2 million USD. If you use gold, 2 million worth of it requires too much space.

Realty/Real estate: Because why not? Titles and cashflow and also, of course, an asset are the things that will make you rich.

Financing: This is too self-explanatory. You will get to play the rich play when you have a financing business.

Entertainment: Market, market, market. This is one of the most scalable business models.
2964  Economy / Economics / Re: Are the Central Banks starting to worry about the public's perception? on: October 11, 2020, 03:02:21 PM
Another way or around, it's either people will still keep their trusts with the bank, get used to the future inflations and survive.
It might also central banks will adopt a bitcoin's system like using blockchain technology but not actually on Bitcoin currency and produce a new platform for a store of value that would make the Bitcoin as useless as a medium of exchange (due to the decentralized nature).

The central bank still has full power with the store of value. Bitcoin on the other hand are small peoples getting together. They have more influence and power. So I think, they can still win against the Bitcoin. ( if that's the case though ) But we will see it when we cross the bridge, IMO.
2965  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The mining paradox on: October 11, 2020, 02:22:42 PM
There ain't no paradox in mining. It's just that matter of time and it's not the perfect timing yet. I deeply understand that you're getting worried and have concerned with the profitability of mining especially for those who have invested their wealth to have a mining farm. But, halving isn't really connected with it the reason they will stop mining.
Why?
Economically speaking, countries are now considering Bitcoin for their inflation status.
If that happens globally, these are the possibilities:
  • Bitcoin miners will then have their desired profits because of the increase of Bitcoin every now and then.
  • Medians will take time to dominate the market. Bitcoin as a pioneer and proven will still be the choice of everyone once the time has come.
  • Bitcoin is decentralized and volatile enough not to prove its value. Everyone will choose it as they think it is a safe haven
2966  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Sixty Coinbase employees take buyout offer after no politics at work rule on: October 10, 2020, 04:49:15 PM
Frankly, we don't know the exact situation at Coinbase and what caused this decision. It's one thing if there's a lot of political debates that distract employees from work and cause tension, but this could have also be done to silence any criticism and disagreement over the company's actions. If in the future Coinbase will get caught providing their services to some dictators, rogue nations, war criminals, etc. - this no-politics rule can be used to prevent employees from protesting.
I tend to agree!

No politics at work memo isn't a bad idea since people come to work for the job that they applied for, but is it really possible to stop the employees from any political discussion whereas small talks whether political or any topics could help the employees avoid boredom and it also build a friendly relationship with coworkers.

It's also possible that it could bring divisions and misunderstanding to each employee but in the end, they would still realize that misunderstanding because of political beliefs is somehow a childhood behavior so they will tend to forget it and become friends again after all if we always want camaraderie in the workplace and political discussion at work is too shallow to lose friends and coworkers for an adult.

Besides, this company's action will have a benefits for all coinbase staff to make their service better and good.
2967  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitfinex hackers move another $30million on: October 10, 2020, 04:02:45 PM
120,000 Bitcoins is a lot of money and can drag bitcoin down.

Sure, but this is assuming that they could(and would) actually dump everything in one go. Because if they were smart, that's definitely not the best way to dump that huge of an amount.
I tend to agree, they will not surely dump the whole thing in a single transaction. As of now, I haven't seen any sign of a price decrease in the market.

IMO, in appearance, this is how Bitcoins and fiat differ because fiat has serial number compare with Bitcoins that makes it really hard to track the stolen Bitcoins in the market in fac that we couldn't identify if the one that we hodl already came from the stolen Bitcoins after they will keep moving scammed Bitcoin into small parts.

Although fiat has a serial number it only serves for monitoring it couldn't help the authority to trace stolen money for it is still being generated by the central bank and can be transferred from one to another without knowing the serial numbers of money that you own.
Hackers or thief have their own ways as well to protect what they stole and IMO, it will be really hard to recover the $30 million for hackers will not be able to do it if they don't know what to do next and how can they remain anonymous to those who chase them, of course, the Chainalysis, a Blockchain Analysis Company that monitor stolen Bitcoin transaction.
2968  Economy / Economics / Re: Square invests 50 million USD in BTC: instrument of economic empowerment on: October 10, 2020, 03:17:54 PM
They invested 1% of their total assets. I think this is something every CFO should be looking at, given the highly asymmetrical returns of a bitcoin investment.

It would seem to be a sensible strategy. I've been surprised that this isn't more common. Whilst big investors can have a tendency to be risk-averse, which might keep them away from bitcoin, it's also true that every investment is a gamble, so why not test the waters by buying in with at least (in percentage terms) a small position? Perhaps it's just that they don't want any negative PR from associating with what is still sometimes seen in the mainstream as a counter-cultural and even potentially criminal asset class.
IMO, isn't a surprise.
Any company would always want to secure it's assets and Bitcoin is the only asset that doesn't get affected by the central bank.
It's value depends only on it's availability and demand and because of this companies like Square will give cryptocurrencies a huge impact both in global acceptance and value.

It could be an advantage for crypto investors and hodlers because it only that little by little we are being accepted globally and publicly. In fact, it may also cause a shortage in supply of bitcoins if companies like Square would buy a larger amount, though it may increase the value but still it will affect small-time investors in time as they may not be able to cope up when these companies turned into big whales and started to eat small fishes.
2969  Economy / Economics / Re: Venezuela Planning New 100,000-Bolivar Bills Worth Just $0.23 on: October 10, 2020, 02:51:40 PM
Buying a secure paper that will be used as a banknote is necessary for every country though the question is what is the purpose of this banknote is it really necessary at this time. We may immediately perceive that it can be used for corruption but if we will take a closer look at the purpose of creating a fiat we could consider that there is a possibility that it serves as a replacement of the old ragged fiat.

Another reason is for creating a higher denomination is that it could be handier and can be easily kept by an individual including using higher denomination in making transactions using cash it can be easier instead of paying with multiple paper bills. Though isn't the best resolution for hyperinflation for there are still online transactions that don't require paper bills like credit card or debit card but despite this modernization, if cryptocurrency will be adopted globally then there will be no issues on creating banknotes for it doesn't require affiliation on any bank system nor government.

Anyway, this How the political situation escalated in the Venezuela crisis. See how their politician leaders managed their country.
2970  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 4.03 not used for awhile constantly synchronizing on: October 10, 2020, 02:26:49 PM
You can check the box "select server automatically" found on the red dot button if you aren't yet synchronizing to the node. And leave for a moment in your PC with an internet connection, it will synchronize later on.

I was trying now and I'm connected to 10 nodes using server " electrum.blockstream.info ". If still aren't working in that way, for sure there's a problem of downloading the files. Just re-install and run again or just follow as suggested above. You can use this tutorial given by the Electrum web page. How to Verify an Electrum Download on Windows
2971  Other / Meta / Re: Possible solution to merit burning on: October 08, 2020, 04:17:32 PM
Just my assumption.

There's no need for a smerit bank, monthly merit allocations for all merit source members are enough to maintain merit circulation not to become decay in the future. I don't know how smerit bank works as what you've said but I have doubt it could be abused by them, proper distribution with their own criteria of giving merits is already a good solution. Unless, if Theymos have a plan to add merit sources if admin saw the shortage of merit flow or turn out decaying.

The good thing is, evaluate the smerit distributions of all merit sources if they still do their job, IMO.
2972  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How wallets make money? It is worse than you think. on: October 08, 2020, 03:57:08 PM
I think there's no other option for them to earn money, do they? I can't think any alternative ways of making money. What about electrum, I think they have no ways of earning, right? I don't know how much donation they get though.
This makes me to think that, what about some shitcoins being listed in some popular gambling sites? Are they paid too? Or are they have been implemented due to user demand? I doubt though.
AFAIK, they only earned from donations not directly on the wallet fees of course.

Open-source wallet devs aren't seeking for money, yes, that is, believe me, or not they are enjoying what they have done. Since it is open-source, nobody forcing them to get paid, and that what they like. It seems like, the benefits of being an open-source developer are experienced what they got especially working software that a lot of good developers. That's why professional developers would like to work their own way not just for economical compensation.

For the non open-source wallet, basically, they just run their service for generating profit through the transaction fees.
2973  Economy / Reputation / Re: Cheating in Logo contest, participate using stock image or someone's else logo. on: October 08, 2020, 03:30:21 PM
Upon reading from page 1 on this thread, I saw that both parties have a fault. The participants and the organizer of this contest were at the same fault.

Firstly, the organizer's fault was stated yahoo above and that was right.
The company should have done a better job in the selection process as well. They need to research all submissions to try and detect similarities in other brands and logos. Just my 2 cents.
If they want a professional logo maker, probably I think they hired someone than having a contest. For a good product result, not just a copied by someone else work or be stated that using software template isn't allowed.

For the participants, whether it is a contest or not. If you are professional logo makers, make your own design. If you will use others work as a reference make it sure at least don't have similarities that obviously easily identify or much better made by your own.

Now for tagging, their explanations are appropriate even though it seems a sort of copy pasting because of free template used, they're excused for this. Since there is no rules from the organizer of the contest that prohibit, I think there's no offense, unless if the rule was clearly stated there.
2974  Other / Meta / Re: One fault with the merit system on: October 08, 2020, 02:59:05 PM
Just my two cents!

A Merit system has a good impact on the forum, it was totally eliminated account farmers and stop ranking those bounty hunters that might also account farmers that cause massive abuse. This system was designed regarding that matter and it was totally effective per see.

Through the statistic given by @LoyceV's weekly update of merit data analysis and also merits stats given by @tranthidung threads, I dont see that there is possible "decay" in the future. Merit sources allocation was always refilled by Theymos and I think they did great on their job upon distributing on it based on the data analysis I indicated above. This merit system was doing fine and I don't see any fault. Lazy members will not get even single merit to rank up if their sole purpose is to spam the forum. If all MS were lower their standard is a good sign too that decaying merit will not happen in the future, IMO.

For the non-merit source members also I see that they don't usually hoard smerit (like me), they spend this to continue the merit cycle in the forum.
2975  Other / Archival / Re: [History]Hal Finney - Man Who made a huge contribution to the development of BTC on: October 06, 2020, 11:47:37 PM
"Hal Finney = Satoshi Nakamato?"

In many ways, yes ... Hal made vital and important contributions to early Bitcoin development ...
I have doubt it is, but that still remains a doubt on me. Since no one can sign a message in a hardcoded block address or let's called Genesis block address. We can't consider Hal is the real Bitcoin creator or the real Satoshi Nakamoto.

Okay, let assume, what if Hal Finney really is Satoshi Nakamoto??!
There's an angle on which Hal Finney is keeping the anonymity of Bitcoin. And if that is his real motives, then having a code name as the main developer is
te first thing to do, and look at how he was able to do it successfully. He was able to hide the identity and has successfully grown a platform that was just an idea. I'm basic this assumption/theory with the twit he posted saying "Looking at ways to add anonymity of Bitcoin" that he posted in 2009.
What do you think?

Anways, thank you OP for the compilation and sharing of Hal Finney's history.
2976  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The digital Yuan is almost a fact on: October 06, 2020, 10:52:09 PM
I dont get it why you call China is a communist, I think they aren't.

IMO, this digital Yuan is something that really is a fact. But it will never eliminate the fiat and coins. This Digital Yuan has been offered to the public to avoid personal contacts and for the people to secure themselves from the viruses that are possible staying with the fiats since fiats are being held by different persons every day. In short, they are trying to have alternatives to other cashless payments to avoid physical contact which is to follow the health protocol os social distancing.

The numbers of the transaction are enough to prove that Digital is really something to consider in the future. I just hope that everyone in China is bankable people to take advantage of this.
2977  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Finally!! McAfee is arrested in Spain and now facing extradition on: October 06, 2020, 10:31:49 PM
John McAfee previously had problems with the tax authorities.  He hid on a yacht to avoid arrest for tax evasion.  Obviously, he should have made decent money and relatively easy to solve his problems with the tax authorities.  It is permissible that John McAfee took this issue too lightly.  For that he was responsible.
And now, he was totally busted.
My conclusion is, if I were him/them, I wouldn't associate my name to cryptocurrency publicly. Why? By the time you have your pockets being full, that's the time that people will then take advantage of you (For example, it will be the government). McAfee was too obvious to avoid taxes since he is promoting a platform that would eliminate his taxes. And now, he was confiscated and need for him to pay those taxes.

There are different ways to reduce tax legally, but never this kind. I hope McAfee will be able to recover from this. But since he has a lot of money, then probably he has to hire the crypto lawyers in town that expert on this case. Good luck to him.
2978  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Adoption - Climate Change - Internet Access on: October 06, 2020, 10:18:06 PM
Decentralized currency has an advantage to society(special mention, Bitcoin). But never to the capitalists and traditional centralized financial institutions.
Climate change is a different story, it involves a serious situation that is connected to our habitat. Yes, a habitat that we still need to use fiat, we can't fully replace fiat, not all people worldwide have the same status. Other's lack of internet which is Bitcoin and other cryptos really need. When it comes to finances, these are instruments to control the people. So, they aren't comparable. But if the mass would demand a decentralized financial system, then I guess it will then work.

But I heard that the Prime Minister of Australia is now investing in cryptocurrency projects to save their economy from inflation and provide more jobs.
We will see it then!

Some suggested creating a system that allows sending Bitcoin through the use of a third party SMS wallet provider or broadcasting Blockchain data over DVB-T <...>
how about sending BTC through radio waves? some people gave it a go  https://bitcoinist.com/bitcoin-sent-ham-radio
I heard this before and also using gotenna. But all these stuff, I don't know how to use.
2979  Economy / Economics / Re: I lost my job, how about you guys? on: October 06, 2020, 12:47:22 PM
I'm sorry to hear that. I know that losing your job in this situation is really painful financially and emotionally. But you had to be strong and find ways to resolve your problem as quickly as possible. There's a saying that I had read yesterday and it's getting my interest, it says "There's no such thing as overnight success or EASY MONEY if you fail, don't be discouraged, try it again. When do you well, don't change your ways" You can do it!

Anyways, regarding the story with cryptocurrency during the pandemic, I heard that the Prime Minister of Australia is now investment massive funds for cryptocurrency projects just to save their economy. And I assume, because of that initiation, other countries will be diving next.

Luckily, even there's a lockdown in my country, I still have my job amidst the pandemic.

Lol. Are you shilling bumble bee tuna product? But yeah, it sounds something fishy!

Is someone funding Craig for his claims? He already has a lot of hearings and claims for Bitcoin. I don't trust him because he is a liar.
But then, why is that he is still free? Too many lies that are against the oath he took before giving the statements. He should be in jail.
Let's go and put Craig to Jail! Satoshi Nakamoto will never be a desperate person. He is a brain that will never ever do these kinds of things like Craig is doing! Good luck to him, I saw he is slowly down together with his fake coins.
