He is old at 40 and when fighters are ageing, the first thing that will go is your power and speed. Could be exciting in the first couple of rounds, until Casimero takes over or chin tested him and then Casimero will go back to his defensive style, which will make this fight a snoozer.
For me this will be a half boring, half-exciting fight. Rigo is no longer relevant in boxing anymore, he only fights to make some money and may not go out of his shell come fight night thus make this fight a boring one. The fact is that he is still an elite level fighter and he knows that it is a small window of opportunity where he can perform at that level and as long as he can perform let him do what he likes. Manny Pacquaio is a billionaire if we convert his earnings in Philippine peso and though Floyd Mayweather earned more than Manny but still the latter is above in terms of purchasing power as Manny spend his fortune in his home soil which is much cheaper than in the US. If Manny doesn't fight anymore, he can sustain his style of living while Floyd can't. If you gonna dig deeper on why Manny still fights, it's not the passion and the money anymore. He fights to attract attention and to be still relevant in Philippine politics as he don't need to pay TV stations to have an air time. The case of Joe Devance having been hit by COVID-19 is intriguing as i thought all this time that if you are healthy, you are safe from this virus. I mean if you can have it but your body can handle it and you will only feel the mild symptoms of this virus and not be critical. Have read about NBA players having covid but all of them have only mild or no symptoms at all. so it was the right decision for him to quit as he may have had suffered more if he did continue. Saunders' injury is not a small one. hope he can recover good from this surgery. now, we are looking forward who's gonna be next for Canelo. he will be a bankable boxer for a time now.
Canelo ended it with one punch in round 7 the punch that broke Saunders landed perfectly on a counter and based on his interview he knows that he hurt Saunders badly, that's all Canelo can give us he just needs one big punch and he can end everything, but Saunders put up a big resistance, but he just can't go on like this the whole fight, Canelo will soon catch him. The thing is, before the fight, he started to trash talk and attack Canelo's previous opponents and tells that they all quit, now it comes back to haunt him. Yes, that one punch really did the damage and Canelo just continue to target that causing the eye to really swell and then later we found out the extend of the damage. I lost my bet here because I put Canelo by decision, but I'm good it's part of the game. It may haunt Saunders, but his health is the priority here. Another two rounds and he will be permanently blind for the rest of his life. So the team did the right choice and may have said Saunders here. It's just trash talking, sooner or later after the fight, they will forget what Billy Joe said hyping this fight. And we will only remember how great Canelo is that night and taking Saunders WBO belt. I'm one of the many people that were disappointed of Saunder's quitting but after some time i have realized that the Team have made the right decision. Maybe tough as due to time constraint but that decision have saved the health of their fighter as that is not his last fight. That scenario was the same with the Pacquiao vs Margarito fight which was held on the same venue, Cowboy Stadium. Team Margarito and the referee which was Lawrence Cole did not stopped the fight even though Margarito's eye was badly swollen and now it had a permanent effect on his vision, could have avoided if they stop the fight early. |

That was a really disappointing ending. Billy Joe was more competitive than many expected and then he abruptly quit. Apparently he suffered an eye injury and that was the reason for the stoppage.
The next opponent for Canelo should be Caleb Plant to crown an undisputed champion. Plant doesn't have a great resume so I'm not expecting very much from him but he does move around a lot and could find a way to win some rounds.
Very disappointing indeed as i lost my bet lol, could have won if Saunders didn't quit on his stoll. With due respect to Caleb Plant, i don't think he has the tools to beat Canelo and their fight is just a formality for Canelo on taking his IBF belt. Saunders is the fighter who have the best chance to beat Canelo and it's evident on this one and i don't think there will be a rematch here. |

Actually, based on my own rankings, Phoenix should be on my 3rd but Calvin Abueva was already traded even they already offered a max contract to him. Some say it was because of the financial capability of the company so they need to let go some of their high-paid players. Phoenix FuelMasters was one of the top performers in the bubble last year, climbs up to standings surprisingly, and I think they can handle well those top SMC and MVP teams. But without Abueva, that was hard to do. Don't forget that when they lose Calvin Abueva, they had Manuel now. I believe that Manuel although not as good as Abueva but he can contribute to the team in terms of defense and offense, and his experience is big for the team. There's a lot of new teams this season, I'm really excited if those trades and acquisition did really help a team, and see on what team is successful. Phoenix is a strong contender with Vic Manuel in the roster but there is a big problem for the team now as Matthew Wright demanded a trade and if the management won't heed for his demand, he threatens to go back to the States for good. Floyd isn't going to get charged because Jake isn't going to press charges. He got the publicity he wanted and that should be enough for him.

July this year is still part of 2021, I thought he started training already, why would he spend effort for training if he is not preparing for a fight soon? I guess July this year is still possible though, Manny has announced he will fight early this year, so why would he do that if he aims to fight in the last quarter of this year?
At this point, I think that they are just creating a hype around this fight because they feel like there will be fewer audiences. I hope that they can finally decide about the when and where of this fight because a lot of Pacquiao fans are waiting and they only get agitated as time goes by and no concrete announcement is being made. I don't think they are creating a hype at this point, i think they are just ironing some things before formally announcing the date and venue of the fight. Humors have it that once they will announce the date of the fight, Pacman will also announce his retirement. The best month for this match is July, so there is still time for an eight weeks training for Manny. This would be his last fight as he could no longer fight next year as it is the time for the Presidential election of the Philippines which Manny has plan on running for the highest office of the land. |
