Is Bitcoin really a decentralized currency? How many coins can there be?
-snip-
I believe this answer is more detailed and would probably help more (maybe my explanations are not the best, I'm not an expert ^^).
The main idea is if you create the necessity of the 75 characters, it will reduce spam (cause spamming sig campaign would become more expensive in time) and people would get used to answering in a more detailed way. Which can't be a bad thing in my opinion.
Wrong. Your answer is a straw-man. The newbie did not ask what a decentralized currency was nor how it works. He only asked 'is Bitcoin one'; that's a yes and no question that can be expanded, albeit it would be redundant in this case. Imposing a character limit will not reduce any sort of spam but would rather negatively effect users that contribute by excluding their constructive albeit short posts. Spammers would just re-write more of what others posted to get above the limit (pretty simple actually).
Wouldn't say a straw-man, more like a deduction. He asks if Bitcoin is decentralized. That means he doesn't understand how it works, because if he understood how it works he wouldn't ask if bitcoin is decentralized as it's the obvious consequence of the way it was created.

So you gave him a misleading and wrong answer that might result in more confusion in the future. Bitcoin is not Litecoin and some of the other things you wrote are at the very least misleading if not plain wrong. Its a great example that length does not equal quality.

Imposing a character is the same thing as putting a captcha before the faucets.

No, it changes the message, a captcha does not.

It doesn't make it impossible to farm it, but it makes it more costly to farm it in an industrial way.

Key presses are not expensive, valuable, constructive content is. Its expensive because it requires experience and or thought. Pressing buttons in itself does not. All you do is force button pressing.

And let's face the truth if you take all the messages of less than 75 characters I'm pretty sure 90% of them will be spamming answers. (Though I never did any stats of that it's just an impression :3 )

Maybe, the majority of short answers are already lazy spam and worthless junk, but I dont think a higher number of symbols will change it. If anything it will change the noise to signal ratio to the worse.

Yes it does. Via bitcoin-cli as well as via the UI. Its not common though. Electrum has something similar which AFAIK is based on the core estimate by the server you connect to. I understand the need for something like this, but they require a lot of information. I dont know if its reasonable to assume that people would willingly disclose their master public key for a fee estimate.

Let me clarify, you don't need to disclose anything . This is not an external service, its a opensource script that you need to run on your system. The master public key is also never submitted to external API server. The script does a BIP32 walkthrough and verifies address txout using API calls to random API providers to maintain privacy.

Summary:
Usage is very simple . Before spending money from your wallet , run this script with your master public key to get optimal fee. Set that fee in your wallet , or use the fee wallet is suggesting.

Im not here to shit on your work. If it looks like that, Im sorry. Im just trying to say that there will be next to no demand for this. I intially thought it was your back end script and not something to be run locally though.

You either make it easily accessible and have the potential privacy issue or you only attract people that will run the python scripts with the needed dependencies. This does not make this a bad tool and it certainly will have its uses. IMHO you should add a number of recipients though, right now you assume a single (+ change) output. It also seems like you use all inputs[1] for all given addresses[2], which would make your estimate an upper bound at best.

Too bad Sirius isn't here anymore to enforce these rules. No NSFW? Take a look at the "services" section. Porn account sales, paying people to use their porn referral code, and in off topic, "Hot Tatooed Girls"

Is it tagged as NSFW? If so, its ok.

2965  Economy / Reputation / Re: Known alts of anyone: User generated on: February 05, 2016, 09:35:11 PM
screenshots cant be searched. get the people to delete their posts so you guys have some in a row
That's one of the point's why I am against this solution aswell. I prefer a more direct, more usable and more clean solution.

Nonetheless I'll PM the guys who had the first few posts, before me

Made an archive of the first page -> https://archive.is/aNwsh
Some of the posts are used as reference, they have been replaced with archive links here -> http://pastebin.com/k3ay0qtk

How will he create a post in between even after deleting the first reply?
The idea is that the users delete all their replies up to mexxer-2s first reply. That would be Quickseller, shorena, Athertle, james.lent and Kanapka deleting their first posts.

A new child board under reputation would be better: Alt accounts
Don't think we need a child board for this, just a better organized thread. Maybe more than one for the future, right now one thread is enough.

It would be better to start a new thread and make 3-4 posts reserved wither by you or mexxer-2.
Afterwards it will just get filled up.
At some point, this will be the only solution (besides not including some alts/keeping the list to a limit, but I don't support that).
For now, we're both trying to stall this step as long as possible.

I removed mine, did you try contacting Cyrus[1]? They might be willing to remove the posts, this post is the sections sticky after all.

2966  Other / Archival / Re: Updated Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns on: February 05, 2016, 09:26:53 PM
Im not sure if this is directed at us, but we dont track whether certain ranks are full or not. Xotika is full right now, but that changes regularly so they have been moved to the new FLUX section.
Xotika.TV have changed their campaign rules for the upcoming 3rd round.
The thread is currently locked, so I can't quote it to you, but from what I see, they wont enroll Legendary/Hero Members in this round:
Quote
AVAILABLE SLOTS (Round 3)
Senior Members:    (10 Slots Left)
Total number of users to be enrolled in the campaign: 10

I get it now, I asked for a confirmation via PM, so we can update the thread if needed.
2967  Other / Archival / Re: Updated Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns on: February 05, 2016, 09:17:27 PM
Xotika.TV is not enrolling hero members this time. Undecided
Just checked out their thread.

Hope it was a typo.

Im not sure if this is directed at us, but we dont track whether certain ranks are full or not. Xotika is full right now, but that changes regularly so they have been moved to the new FLUX section.
2968  Other / Meta / Re: Bunch of idiots/bots spamming the hell out of press board on: February 05, 2016, 07:01:50 PM
Its a link collection sub board, what exactly do you expect? While a personal view on the article would be nice I dont think its needed.I doubt their sig management wants them advertising in a section that is hardly seen, contacting them might get the section excluded.
Well, yes. I can hardly say anything against that. I also agree that they probably do it for the sig payment, but on the plus side they create a neatly sorted archive of press articles. Exactly what the section was intended for, even though the "news sites" they quote might not be up to everyones standard. I think contacting the campaign manager(s) is the better idea. They will stop if they do it for the satoshi and it removes the need for staff to get involed when its not needed.
Either your logic is superior to mine or I just get swayed too easily, I'm quite leaned towards the latter.

I just cant have you report 100s of posts Wink

No seriously I thinks fine for the section, but maybe Im wrong, lets see.

I cant read that so I cant say what is what.
In short it was a bunch of spammers spamming the "Press" section of chinese board by copy-pasting content from news-sites. Another similar 'case' here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1268714.0 and the individual didn't even have a signature.

Nonetheless, I'm keeping this thread open to discussion

Sounds like the posts were mostly offtopic though. I understood the other thread as well, but I could assess the posts the thread was about.
2969  Other / Meta / Re: Bunch of idiots/bots spamming the hell out of press board on: February 05, 2016, 06:35:41 PM
I skimmed a few posts and from the looks of it, they are doing what they should do in this section. I see no doubles or other things that violate the rules:
FTFY. As for violating , well
1) They are making low quality posts

Its a link collection sub board, what exactly do you expect? While a personal view on the article would be nice I dont think its needed.

2) They have a paid signature

I doubt their sig management wants them advertising in a section that is hardly seen, contacting them might get the section excluded.

3) They are posting copied content(can't find that quote from hilarious, from the thread where you report people who copy others' post)

Its properly quoted with a source though. They dont claim to have written even a single word of the post. IMHO thats a big difference.

4) They are doing so massively, a few might be tolerable

And lastly, similar case which was reported by(now my alt) TheLegendaryOne and they were banned.

I cant read that so I cant say what is what.
2970  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Optimal tx fees suggestor on: February 05, 2016, 06:20:14 PM
Im not sure this is something I would be willing to disclose just to get a fee estimate.

Doesn't the latest version of Bitcoin let you work this out itself?

(if not then maybe that should be a suggested addition for it)

Yes it does. Via bitcoin-cli as well as via the UI. Its not common though. Electrum has something similar which AFAIK is based on the core estimate by the server you connect to. I understand the need for something like this, but they require a lot of information. I skimmed a few posts and from the looks of it, they what they should do in this section. I see no doubles or other things that violate the rules:

-snip-
These general guidelines should help keep the board usable:

  • Create a new thread for each new link
  • Begin each thread with article date, YYYY-MM-DD format.
  • Thread title should usefully summarize the link.  julz has suggested DATE-SITE-HEADLINE format, but use your best judgement.
  • Duplicate links, off-topic, and meta discussions may be moderated (locked or whatever the mods prefer)
  • Post a link to the NEW articles thread.
2972  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Optimal tx fees suggestor on: February 05, 2016, 06:04:51 PM
I would assume the need for an address is to find the UTXOs as you can't calculate the fees without them.

(it should allow for multiple UTXOs though and they are not necessarily going to be linked to a single address)

Yes, address is needed to select UTXO to spend. You can specify multiple address / xpubs in input.
It will select inputs from those addresses to maximize tx priority https://github.com/priestc/moneywagon/commit/e336c8769adedbd314857aa92b0cdc9b3ae25828

Regards

I suspected as much, but as CIYAM said you would need all possible addresses as well as (at the very least) the number of outputs (+1 for change) and the amount I want to send. Im not sure this is something I would be willing to disclose just to get a fee estimate.

I see, well, dont print out sensitive info with 3rd party printers ever.

There are many shops that offer printing services, but one has to be a fool to print out sentitive data with them.

Only use your own printer (not even your neighbors) to print out sensitive data.

I agree, but I think thats where the fear printers might store the data comes from. If someone uses a printer at home and think it might still have sensetive data on it, they could just destroy the printer once its lifetime ended. I also doubt home use printers will have hard disks as they have next to no need to store a large amount of data and it would only increase the price per device.
2975  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Optimal tx fees suggestor on: February 05, 2016, 12:22:42 PM
Sooo cointape[1], but I have to give you my address for some reason? Why exactly do you need the address and what would be the difference (if any) to cointape?

2976  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Newb Question - Elecrtrum receive payment on: February 05, 2016, 12:19:53 PM
ah yes i see that now thanks

But i can see that is has 0 transaction.

Although i note that coinfloor say they process 3 times per day..so many just need to wait

if i gave the address to coinfloor then i assume it has to end up in the account anyway?

If coinfloor is legit, it should eventually show up. Wait a bit or contact them and ask for the transaction ID if you think have waited long enough. From what you say (now TX shown for the address) it sounds like they did not send the coins yet.
2977  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hacking on: February 05, 2016, 10:41:42 AM

The only problem is it has to be done right.  Say you use a newer printer and it's compromised.... you could lose it through there.  Rare yes but not impossible.  The dumber the printer the better, also if you print a wallet might look into how to clear cache on your printer.

Power it off?

I dont know about you guys but I have a normal printer that prints only. Not with wireless crap and other stuff that has attack vector.

I just power off the printer, and the cache clears, because it doesnt have memory card and things like that.
-snip-

This is mainly for commercially used printers. In which case a power off would not help either, because they use a harddisk for long term storage. AFAIK this is not common on end user printers.
2978  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you store your bitcoins? on: February 05, 2016, 08:26:34 AM
Well being new in the bitcoin business, I store them online with the fear of having them on my device which can crash anytime.

Make a backup, start to get afraid of goxing. If you store coins online chances are high you dont actually own them, but just have a promise from a stranger.

2979  Economy / Auctions / Re: Selling Cryptocurrency Payment Gateway System on: February 05, 2016, 08:23:36 AM

Whether or not the license allows reselling it with a finished product I cant tell. The little text available under above link clearly states "Use, by you or one client," the buyer here can easily be seen as the client which would make it a valid license. I would suggest you (as in those who care and have an interest to buy) contact the person that issued the license when in doubt instead of fighting about it here. Preferably in a verifiable way.
Firts of all, why getpay not answer what type of license he have?

If it regular so:

Use, by you or one client, in a single end product which end users are not charged for. The total price includes the item price and a buyer fee.

But getpay saying he have made changes in script?
What changes? remove from code demo info login?  Grin
Or what?

Why getpay dont answer all quostions? If i want buy, or make bid, i must now what i get, or not?
If in real, domain real price about 15$ + ssl 5$ + what ?
Hosting?  Grin Or your code changes?
I better buy clear code from author!

Why do you think I know the answer to those questions? I was asked to state my opinion about this thread (probably mainly about the bid restraction) and I did, I have no more insight into the project than you have.

No, I had more smoke and mirrors in mind. Something quick and simple like changing the payment address or the login url. However it seems OP is no longer following the thread or unwilling to give more details so its just speculation anyway.
