The biggest problem is that a lot of posts aren't really abusive or off-topic, just completely uninteresting. I don't think we'd see anywhere near as much of the "I hoep Bitcoin price gose up, I'll b very hapi and it good for Bitcoin!" type of post if people weren't paid for volume. I report the stuff, but it seems my standards are stricter than the mods'. I'll admit moderating for insightfulness is a tough proposition, but I think that just means you shouldn't encourage mediocre posts, because you're going to see enough of them even without financial incentives.

That is not the proper use.  If you find people doing this they are abusing the system.   What you can do is report it to mod, if it is utter crap posts they get a temp ban.  Mod's do ban for crappy insubstantial posts.

And I would just avoid off-topic I might read it once ever few weeks.  I just am not into it I don't care to read what someone last drank, or listened to.... so I avoid it.   I would suggest you avoid it to if you hate crap posts.

Living in The Netherlands makes me feel, retarded in comparison with usa

Do not feel this way. There is a learning curve, but there is help available.

I've not used the blockchain wallet, but I'd be willing to give it a shot and write a tutorial. I can't do it right now, but I'll take a look when I get home. It sounds like the Android app may have a problem with your phone for one reason or another. This is one reason I recommend Copay as a wallet for both desktop and mobile.

It is true you don't get it in a day, most people have been around a LONG time and there are still new things you learn.  That is part of what makes bitcoin so fun to me.

Are you saying you are using the blockchain.info website to be your wallet? Just trying to make sure I understand.
2983  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: problem with S3 antminer on: January 04, 2016, 08:22:55 PM
Looks like you have a bad blade.

Open it and make sure your cables a correctly connected.

Inspect and smell for burns.

Also do you have both plugs plugged in?   And what model/brand PSU are you using?

And also when you do your inspecting make sure to turn it off and unplug it.     Might run it after with hood off just be careful with inspecting as then it would have live electricity going through it.
2984  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Daniel Mross paid 2700 BTC to ButterflyLabs in 2012 for 25 Gh/s on: January 04, 2016, 08:20:13 PM
Wow, thats a real big amount of money for only 25 gh/S :/

At that time, a 7970 mines around 500Mh/s, 25 gh/s is 50 7970, which was worth about 50 *300 = $15,000 and used much more electricity.

It was a bad deal they promised much more then they could actually deliver.   And it was not 1 product they did it on every single product... and somehow they kept getting orders or people playing to upgrade to next miner hoping that would fix it.

They knew it was a sinking ship at BFL around monarch time.  They had done enough to get on radar of lawsuits/laws.   I went to a convention when it was close to the end and BFL was there... I almost felt bad for the guy working the booth.  But knowing he was part of all that kept me from feeling that bad.  He had a booth with pretty much no customers.  Only people who stopped were people that wanted to see prototype monarch.
2985  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Help for Mining on: January 04, 2016, 08:15:06 PM
Thank you all !  Grin

Hold on, we told you, you can't profit at your electricity rate, don't ignore that fact. You pay twice what it would cost to have it hosted. You just plain can't do this. It would cost 162USD per month to keep it running.

Also I am guessing France has a decent VAT being in EU.  So you spend that on top + what all Virosa mentioned.   So your fighting a uphill battle.

If you go hosting center you would save money of electricity, and depending on where you pick could quite possibly save on vat.  And at the end you still should be able to sell but the hosting company you will likely have to pay something to mail it out.
2986  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: January 04, 2016, 08:11:18 PM
After running it about 20 hours I have nothing to complain about the U3 so far. I will keep it underclocked because it seems to run quite stable that way. And it doesn't matter anyway 50 Gh/s or 67 Gh/s is way too little in any case these days.

Where did you pick up a U3? I'm looking around... I'd like to pay bitcoin.

I have 7 brand new I just got in. Can sell for BTC assuming you are in US.

Where did you get them brand new from?  I was thinking bitmain was not selling them.

So just curious on your source of brand new U3's.
2987  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: How quiet is the Avalon 4.1, really? on: January 04, 2016, 08:09:16 PM

I guess i'll keep an eye out for an Avalon 4, but its probably not worth going out of my way to get one in this case.

I have three id be willing to part with

I would take at most one, i just need something really quiet next to my bed for winter warming.

I am looking at 2xS3 from ebay, total 200USD shipped and no import costs since already in Canada. Would a single Avalon come down to something comparable in term of cost?

Not even close on price I don't think.  They never did compete with bitmain on price with s5's.  They were always higher.

But 200 is not in ballpark even I don't think.  But others can pipe in an say what they think.

Sound reasonable, also the unit at full speed is more hashrate than the S3's so i'd have to pay for the full hashrate, which would be fine.

But he has not replied with a price so i think i'll just get a S3 from ebay and switch the fans with fans i already have. Then maybe undervolt it. Should be full quiet and be enough heat along with my PC for the winter.

Cheers. Smiley

You are right that will work for most.  I just remembered me recording a 4.1 on my review a bit back - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1008726.0

I am right up beside it and am using rm1000 which is a pretty quiet PSU.  Truly amazing on the level of quiet you are right by it and can not hear it - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7UTdo_4AaQ .
2988  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [Hands On] Ledger Nano Hardware Wallet - Notlist3d on: January 04, 2016, 08:02:13 PM
The Ledger Nano is still working very well.  I recently tried using it with android mobile phone and it is a nice feature for those who need access to it on the go.    A update to hands on is coming to show that.

There is a reason I save those posts under Smiley.  I do intend for it to be there in the near future.
2989  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best bitcoin wallet? on: January 04, 2016, 05:02:11 PM
hi,

is it possible to use more bitcoin wallets at the same time?

for example, now i use blockchain, and i want to use a small wallet on my smartphone

thanks in advance, peter

Absolutely. I use several.

You can and some can be more secure then others.  For example you can use Mycellium and have a hot wallet for spending.  But the neat thing is with it you can use a hardware wallet on android, so you can send securly on phone from your hardware wallet if it supports it.

Here is TREZOR doing it.  With it you have normal hot wallet to use then if you needed more you could use your hardware wallet on android. - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1298917.msg13321397#msg13321397
2990  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Best Bitcoin Cloud Mining? on: January 04, 2016, 04:59:23 PM
I think cloud mining is risk. You might be scammed easily.

You can't lump them all into one category.  Sadly a lot are scams.. but they are pretty easy to spot and not invest with them.

There are 2 or so good ones.  But really research before any investment espically if cloud mining.  Look for if they have proof of hardware or linked to a miner manufacture.  Also don't get all info from their website research it on a neutral place like the forums.
2991  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: NEWB Alert with a Lot of Questions on: January 04, 2016, 04:52:32 PM
Thanks for all the replies! A WiFi AP is on the list.

I ordered a Ledger Wallet Nano. I plan on joining a pool so how does the Bitcoin get from the pool to the usb wallet?

Your Nano will have a bitcoin address that you will copy and paste as your payout address on the pool.  Then you can set a minimum threshold to get paid out and everyday or every other day you can get payouts to your Nano.

I HIGHLY suggest getting starter accessory with the offline OS.  It makes it a lot more secure on setup on setup with it being a 100 percent offline OS and makes it much more secure.

Here is a hands on using it: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1305888.0
2992  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What would be a good asic miner to start with? on: January 04, 2016, 04:49:08 PM
If you buy Today your only Choices are Bitmain S7 or Avalon6. Choice is close with supporters of both, so you would need to read the Forum and make your own decision.

As to future releases of 14 /16nm based Miners, then you are in the land of the unknown, with difficulty increases working against you and the Halving getting ever closer. BW.com will probably be one of the first in the next Month or so, could be keenly priced? Bitfury may release something or they might not, if they do will probably be the most efficient but likely to be pricey?

Rich

On picking I would ask OP does he have 220/240?  That is decent factor in which one is best for his situation.  Also is noise a issue?  this also is big on picking.

Also OP what is your electricity?   That can help us see if ROI is even possible.
2993  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: January 04, 2016, 04:47:23 PM
Hello  i got 6 miners avalon 6 for sale with bitmain power supply 1600watt al working fine.
I'm living in Belgium i can ship to the vs or in europe.
9900usd  or make a offer.

well you should do this in the marketplace.

plus your price is too high for usa buyers.

I think this link is where you should be.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=75.0

On sales please do in market place as Phil recommend.  If thread turns into buy/sell it takes away from information and clutters it up.

So please do keep them there.  I don't have a problem with people selling them.  Just FAQ and help thread is not the place for it.

2995  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Miner Pro / Mining Pool on: January 04, 2016, 04:38:38 PM
I was going to try cloud mining with hashnest but it seems like they are sold out of S7.  Also not sure if I would want to spend more than $100 on playing around for educational purposes.  I am open to ideas about the best way to play around with minimal investment if ROI isn't important to me.

yeah they have the limit set to one unit, that's the bad part about their hash purchase, you can buy small portion

you might try with bit-x but they don't have the s7 yet

I don't know that they will unless I missed something.  When they went big last time they bought Bitfury on Bit-x.

Hasnest you can get a s7 in the cloud if you want it right now.  But always do ROI math OP.  But in all seriousness do not mine on your phone it's just asking for trouble.
2996  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Best bitcoin mining rig for $1000? on: January 04, 2016, 04:35:49 PM
I have done pretty well with decent electricity and selling gear.

yes, maybe because you have cheap electricity, secure location for miners and time for selling, packaging and sending your mining gear.

I don't have anything from this, but really...if you want to put 1000$ to Bitcoin, buy them directly instead of some stupid mining ideas. and this is valid I would say for majority of board users..

Yes... but at one time did not have some of it.  I invested in making a mining area instead of doing the put some in each room.  It was not free... it was a investment.  there is nothing to stop you from having one to just upfront costs.   My main factor is i needed it for cooling for summer, now I can do lot's of CFM's and cool in summer.

On packaging on mining gear... keep the boxes they send it to you in.  It's that simple I don't invest in new boxes and packing that would be stupid.  I have a system where I keep original boxing and when I sell I use the same boxing it was sent to me in.
2997  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: s7 new farm on: January 04, 2016, 04:31:50 PM
I m not sure home mining s a way to go anymore. I do not want to spoil your plans but with 20-30% montly diff growth, I simply do not see how that can work anymore.

His farm is in Venezuela... so he has cheaper then average electricity.   So I doubt it is going to hurt him.

On other miners with home/hobby with regular electricity pricing it needs a bump in value.  I think there will always be some hobby and home miners no matter what.

Electricity price s got nothing to do with diff growth. Even if he s got higher reward now, due to lower electricity price, it s still going to go down 20% per month if this trend continues. To tell u the truth, I expect mining diff to go up even more in case BTC price starts to push higher.

But hes paying so little he likely can run no matter difficulty for a long time.  Look at Venezuela it's not the most reliable but it is always said to be super cheap.

I don't disagree that it will continue to grow. I hope it slows down some and it is a little bit.  But likely company's will keep pumping out chips and that means more and more hash rate. Just the nature of the beast at this point.
2998  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Help for Mining on: January 04, 2016, 04:27:21 PM
Ok no problem for profit. Where can I buy AntMiner S7 in Europe ? And Alimentation APW3-12-1600-B2 I need it ?

https://bitmaintech.com/product.htm

Or from one of the dozens of vendors you'll find on this forum or on the web

Most of time it's cheaper to get direct then from resellers on S7's.   They just have dropped so fast in price re-sellers normally are high on selling.

With Europe guessing not a problem but make sure you have a 220/240.   Only thing to be warned the PSU and the S7 are not quiet at all.  So keep that in mind when you are ordering.
2999  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is this math right? on: January 04, 2016, 04:23:07 PM
It seems like you haven't got the math right! You can always use coinwarz to check your values and do your math:

http://www.coinwarz.com/calculators/bitcoin-mining-calculator

Coin warz is great for current difficulty but horrible for long term. Use https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/calculator it allows difficulty change over time.

This adds up and really makes a difference if you use coinwarz and times it out your numbers ill be massively off.

Here is a intersting read as far as China and the new year - http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-01-04/chinese-stocks-in-hong-kong-extend-annual-slump-as-yuan-declines  It sounds like markets are doing not so geat.   So not sure if any of that carries over to bitcoin.

I could see it being a pro or a con depending on what effect if any it has.
