Why is there no question #1? Or is there? Or is this it? Or else?

To me it seems like I'm suppose to think it's going down based solely on the ask orders but I can't identify any fundamental reasons why it should go down..

The fundamental reason it should go down is that pirate wants it to and lots of people are scared of him.

Pirate wants it to, maybe.

Lots of people are scared, not so much... and for each BTC in the hands of someone who's scared, there's a few dollars in the hands of those who want to buy.

Yeah, those are called speculators. |It is so obvious that pirate has some of the wall volume

imo, pirate himself has ~0 volume. it's just the concept of pirate that holds all the volume.

edit: oops, i read your post wrong. i read it as: pirate has some "off the wall" volume.  lol

lol there's still more coins on the "agree" side for some reason.

FWIW, Yuhfhrh always win his bets

I don't trust kentrolla. The rise to $12 looks like it was forced. I think he is trying to induce a Pavlovian response so he can manipulate you all.

...Um... something about tinfoil hats coming up.
at the time of my prediction, it required over 250k btc to get to $12.

i wish i had $2,600,000 to just throw around to win a tiny bet.

if you don't trust me, go ahead and bet against my new prediction:

http://betsofbitco.in/item?id=605

why only .55btc disagree??

I'm gonna throw a small amount to disagree :p
uh oh. u are 1-0 vs me  Sad

how much did u bet?
2988  Economy / Speculation / Re: Consider Pirate does not pay and does not sell on: August 29, 2012, 02:55:52 AM
No sense considering any longer.  Pirate announced default with "no further information available".  Watch the price of bitcoin for your expected reaction...

Enigma

Good. Now the wanker can stop trying to play god with the market and things will return to normal.
by "normal" you mean another bubble right?

seriously? only .55btc disagree?
2991  Economy / Speculation / Re: Consider Pirate does not pay and does not sell on: August 28, 2012, 11:23:06 AM
This is a scam that managed to get 1/20 of all bitcoins in existence - in proportion this is like $200B.  I am pretty sure that this will have negative impact on whole perception of bitcoin - guilty by association.  This might be irrational - but this is how things work and by the way MtGox also can default at some point - of course this is quite different from the pirate scam - but it is much more vulnerable then people think it is and the pirate business is a good reminder about that.

first of all. Pirate never managed to get 500k btc.  That's just what he owes after you factor in the interest.

2nd. MtGox will never default.  They make soooo much money it's absurd.   The only weakness I see in MtGox is if they get some sort of legal pressure.
2992  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: August 28, 2012, 11:17:01 AM
Are we going up or down?

I think we're going up.
The market is getting a lot smarter and people aren't falling for these manipulation attempts anymore.

well i think its now safe to say that 15k btc sell-off was a failed attempt to spark a panic.

GJ guys. This market is getting a lot smarter.

I'm not really sure about that.
The timing is pretty close to when Liberty Reserve is back from maintenance mode after 1 week off.
People that can only withdraw to LR and don't want to take a risk that something will happen again to Liberty Reserve will exchange their bitcoin to LR then to fiat as fast as possible.

this is how it happened: It was just 1 player with 15k btc

After the initial 12652 btc sell-off to $10.65, he left his remaining 2348 btc wall at $10.65 for about 2 minutes to see if the market would panic but he realized that it was just getting bought into and moved it back to $11.55.

If this was because of LR panic then wouldn't it make sense for him to leave the 2348btc wall up?  As of now, its still sitting at $11.55

I think this player had a good plan. His timing couldn't have been better to try to spark a panic. With this huge 100k btc transfer and the LR panic potential, it seemed like the perfect storm to brew a crash.

I'm 100% sure this would have worked if this all happened when the market wasn't already privy to such manipulation methods.

I'm very impressed with how smart this market has become.

Also, i think this failed crash attempt is a very bullish sign.
