yeah network is going crazy  the 741 it got to was a two year 3 month high.

29962  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: (hacked) S7LN Group Buy on: June 16, 2016, 02:25:41 AM
What is status on group buy?

coins shot up a lot.  I got so busy with

 the s-9 install

 the avalon 6 sales

the s-7 sale  yesterday and then tearing down my kitchen tthe studs for a makeover   that I never put in for a unit.

So did  sale go through on the resend?

and what would be price with coins  now at 730?

29963  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Pair on s-9s now running photos are up. on: June 16, 2016, 02:15:07 AM
or more. There's what, 21 sets of data cable connector pads? ... As I mentioned elsewhere, 2 s9 blades in a reused s7 case should make the thermal issue a moot point...

Save all your firmware.

My batch 1 and batch 2 s-7s were able to do,six units per controller . I never up graded firm ware on them as I,did not want to lose the feature.

Best case is the current s-9 batch one can do the four  boards. And it. An easy fix.

It also cuts down on Ethernet cables as 4 boards to 1 controller means 12 boards need 3 Ethernet conections.

Not four Ethernet connections.
29964  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Pair on s-9s now running photos are up. on: June 16, 2016, 02:01:06 AM
So far, even having to down clock my b1 (now in my rather warm basement) to 600MHz to keep temps reasonable still liking them and looking forward to my b3.

Now only question is what to do with the s7's I have piling up as I take them off line to stay within my available power budgets.  Got 5x 'spares' so far....  Undecided

@ Sidehack - got power available for a couple s7's say directly pointed at your wallet (to pay for the electric) for you to play with optimizing?

I would love to see if an empty s-7 could fit two boards and link four board to the s-9 controller.

29965  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Pair on s-9s now running photos are up. on: June 16, 2016, 01:24:59 AM
Looking good Phil.

I would highly suggest taking that PSU out of the cardboard box and using the stock fan packs to make sure it's getting adequate cooling.  I can't imagine the noise of it is a concern out there, especially with 2x S9's howling right beside it.

yeah you would be correct if I was using it.

I will get to it since I will be using it with the next two s-9's

i am using the dual board 4000 watters pulling  2800 watts ac to do 27th.

Waiting on news for my batch 2 units.

I am  hoping they ship soon.  like tonight vs the 20th.
29966  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Pair on s-9s now running photos are up. on: June 15, 2016, 11:43:49 PM
<snip>

I take it that the filter doesn't block that much air flow?  I'm going to have to pick some of this up for my S7 that still whistles once in a while.
As long as the filter material has fairly large open cells and you knock the dust off every so often it makes very little if any difference in temps even on my s9.

yes exactly that  the filter is very lite duty.
29967  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Pair on s-9s now running photos are up. on: June 15, 2016, 10:08:03 PM
afaik, chips max temp is 125 deg C then it starts to fail.

well thats for s7 chip though but i'd assume should be the same.

i think other components will fail before asic chip.

like i said, below 75C pcb temp should be pretty safe.

keep it cool Wink

4.2 Recommended Operation Conditions

TOPT Operation Temperature  125 ℃ (MAX)

https://cnshop.bitmain.com/files/download/BM1385_Datasheet_v2.0.pdf

bm1384 & bm 1385 pretty close, same value.

i noticed, pcb temp is roughly 30 deg C lower than chip temp so that can be used as a guesstimate imo.

so the built in 80 deg c cut off (pcb) +30 c (guesstimate) = 110 c on chip so should still be ok.

just my 2 cents.

philip, some screenies pls.

sorry real world is in the way.

doing a full kitchen reno gutting to the studs.

won't post as much for next 3 weeks.

what was the prices of batch 1 & batch 2?

2100 + shipping

1985 + shipping

I have exact figures give me 1 minute

seems like batch 1 got the best deal if you look at USD instead of BTC prices

unless you purchased enough coins for 4 from batch 1 at 550 a coin.

then got scared when kano siad the s-9s may not mine on his pool.

I grabbed 2 s-9 batch 1 then held coins and got 2 batch 2 s-9's

I paid 6.6 btc for my batch 2.
I paid 8.1btc for my batch 1.

I paid the same for the coins  so I saved 1.5 btc  now so far my batch one have mined .05 btc  so I have a race  to see if the batch two show quicker then it takes for the batch 1 to mine 1.5 coins.

Hello,  The whistle on the S7's (my B2 s9 ships next week) is caused by an organ pipe effect in the air columns formed by the metal grill.  It can be interrupted and largely silenced by a strip of duct tape along one edge.  Experiment to find the optimal position which doesn't restrict airflow significantly.  A better solution is to remove the grill completely but as these fans can remove a finger, don't do this unless the entire miner is in a sound insulated box and the front fan cannot be accidentally touched.  As the S9 has the same fans and configuration as the S7 I expect this solution will work there as well.  Also, I have replaced the front fans on my s7's with a delta fan described as "the beast" in some ebay ads.  It has a top speed well over 5000 4pm and draws too much current (probably--who wants to risk it?) to power from the controller.)I power it using an extra pcie connector but keep the original connection to the fan connector for the speed control line and the tachometer.  The miners have been perfectly happy at 98F in my garage with a little underclocking.

jfbbtc

your methods will work. I used to try some like that.

I do like the filter method I listed above.

12 filters for 4 usd  and a roll of duct tape lets you do 12 s-9s for under 10 usd.

the whistle stops and much less dust goes into the gear.
29974  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Pair on s-9s now running photos are up. on: June 15, 2016, 05:21:43 PM
I'm confused.  Now they are giving us two temp readings.  In the past, for the S7 and others have we just been seeing the pcb temp (labeled: Temp).
Then why now they showing us the chip temp.  Why is that important now?  Poor design?
My pcb temps are running 56, 56, 59 at 625M.  On any other Antminer I would say there is plenty of room for some over-clocking.  Or in this case to move to the default 650M. (EDIT)
Chip temps are 87, 86, 91.  Are these temps higher than an S7 with the above pcb temps?  In other words is there more of variance on this miner than the older ones.  Where we can burn out a chip before the pcb gets to 80C.  That's still the safety shutdown temp. I believe.
Inquiring minds want to know.

PCB temps are useless...just a cheap way to guesstimate what the die temps would be. My guess would be that with more real-estate afforded by 14/16nm it became worth it it put temps sensors on the dies, and the fact that chips at these node levels are more sensitive to high temps. Anything over 90c continuous on die temps will shorten the life of the chip. I would be concerned if they are running over 80c.

if 80c on the chips is bad then the s-9 should be clocked at 575 vs 650 as to go to 79c will not be easy in rooms without ac.

i went to 625 but may indeed go to 600.

mean while i fixed the mad whistle

Not sure how to explain this,, it's not actually louder from a normal "machine"  sound,, but it has a much louder "whistle"

Running S7s in my garage since summer started. Considering S9. Couple basic questions for those who have run both S7s and S9s:

Is the S9 louder than the S7 (same, little louder, much loader)?

Do they put out about the same amount of heat?

Will they run reliably in a 90F ambient environment?

whistle fix is  post right above with these 2 parts.

Also note that it has the same # of chips as b1 (189) but runs at a lower clock of 600MHz. Looks like Bitmain decided that the b1's were actually now what they consider as OC'd... Their way of addressing the high chip temps?

Und ja, I ordered 1 of the batch-3's.

Oh, my b1 miner seems to have settled down in it's new home and the overnight avg hash rate as reported by Kano is 13.5THs and checking just now is holding at 13.7 average on the gui. Much better than the barely 13THs it started out at.

I did your fix using vent filters on the intake side.

duct tape.

99% of air gets through .

quite a lot of dust is stopped.

and no train whistle.

under 10 bucks and will do 12 s-9's

625 freq is giving me about  26 to 27 th.

temps are 65-90

earnings are 0.03175 so far.

Hi Philip, can you show the pix for - vent filters on the intake side?
3 of my S7s suffered because of dust problems - hate to have that on the S9. Thanks

I am going back to solar array in a few days but I can do a mock up for you.

shot before filter

this is mock up.

red electrical  tape not duct tape

white piece of felt not 4 inch  by 10 inch  vent filter

and the fan is wrong a silverstone 141  not a bitmaintech tech.
of course a card board box the fan is on is not the s-9
but this is the general idea  in real life the filter is long like the fake photo but pretty much is perfect fit height wise

I don't understand the question - what is 300 dollars an hour?
I think he was reading Phils "Doing 300 gh for an hour" post and didn't understand it.

yeah and my post should have been 300th for an hour.

which note to: perfectmoneywallet   means I rented from nicehash 300th  which was to last an hour.

I paid                0.03 btc
I rented             0.3000 ph = 300th

that is about an hours run time.
