Rigs rented on betarigs can now be used on nicehash and westhash!!!!

https://www.nicehash.com/?p=miners&a=1&addr=1DpRLUCg5nNVFA8wen6w8woeMzktXu8mhJ <- Finally got a rig to connect and hash there.

Enjoy!

Ahmed

Does Nicehash allow pointing their servers to Beta?  Odd feature.

Strato

Not sure on nicehash's end but on our end we allow rig's on our site to be pointed at nicehash. (There's actually been quite a number of requests for this. Both us and mux couldnt figure out why nicehash was the only site not allowing it).

Ahmed

They don't allow it because it opens the door to "mining arbitrage" where by people will buy hashpower at nicehash, point it towards a betarigs rig for rent, and mark up.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out price wise... likely it will create even prices across sites if the reverse (nicehash pointing to beta) becomes or is possible).

Hey Ahmed,   Well everything for our team is working well. I really like the new feature (Avg Hashrate for Rental) - as this allows both the renter and the rig owner to see exactly how much hashpower was sent as an average.

One thing that would be really great - FEATURE REQUEST - is to enable some sort of email notification if the rig goes off line / or the hashrate drops below a threshold (say 5% or something for X hours).

This would allow renters to respond to problems on their end such as a bad pool, and also if theres a problem on the rig owners end; to correct it faster for the renter.

Just a thought.

Looking good!

possible? what would be the config?

yes - but not 'split' hashing for each pool ... just failover as far as i can see ...

so it will jump from one pool to another to another and then back again once the initial pools come back online ...

its how i run mine farm when i want to rent my hashes out ...

please correct me if im wrong here ...

#crysx

I think you can set-up some kind of load balance mining 5 minutes on each pool round robin style. But i never tried...

ok so how wud be the config and what user and pass should be put into the beta renter?

for the load balance - you need to approach the owner / dev of the proxy ... pm him ...

as for the failover - well - thats actually very easy as there is a sample of the conf in the package ...

#crysx

ok then lets wait for the author for a response

+1 this feature request. Was just looking to see if there was some sort of load balance option rather than just failover when a pool goes offline or a rental ends.

In my config there is a line which specifies "failover" as the setting; but I can't find any documentation on if there are any other options- was hoping that because it is in fact listed as a setting there might be other options (such as load balancing which is what I am hoping for).

If anyone knows; that would be great.

305  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Paying 2% commission for successful liquidation of farms > 50 GPUS on: February 15, 2015, 03:40:12 PM
If you know anyone who has 50+ GPUs, I will pay you 2% commission of the full sale price.

Example: someone has 60 r9 280x, liquidate for $125 each = 60*$125 ($7500) you will earn $150 in commission.

Please have them email me at macbeth@gmail.com

Email me your name and have your seller reference your name during his initial contact.

I'll go cash if you want, I know you said no go for BTC.  Let me know. I don't think I'm going to mess with firing them back up.

307  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will An Altcoin Ever Surpass the Value of Bitcoin? on: February 15, 2015, 01:32:17 PM
Anything with viral adoption.  Bitcoin is only 250,000 users after 6 years and there's newer things with millions of users.  Before people go on about: "derp derp those things are free", there's hordes of things out there that required spending money and they have more users than BTC (good examples are a lot of paid apps.  Slightly different example is Uber, which is some months younger than BTC).

Agreed. I find it sad to say that BTC in my opinion may have missed it's tipping point. There was simply to much scandal, to many scams, to many busts, to many negative news stories.

Traction on a wide spread level will be next to impossible to attain at this point on a "global adoption" level.  That's not to say it's dead, but in many ways if it was going to "make it" - it would have "made it" already.

There's still a market though. And I'm still mining.  Wink

308  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: POLL: "YOUR Bitcoin Story"... Has Bitcoin Changed Your Life for Better or Worse? on: February 15, 2015, 01:22:42 PM
My journey with Bitcoin has been interesting. I bought my first coin for around the $1000 mark, and bought several in the $500-700 range also. I stored two-thirds of my coins safely and then decided to try my hand at some trading. My timing was off however and my coins were stuck in gox. So in order to try and recoup some of my losses, i decided to have a go at mining and purchased some scrypt asic miners from someone who had a very good reputation in crypto circles (litecoin). Unfortunately this gentleman has now decided to not honour his side of the bargain and has disappeared with the funds. So yes, lessons were learnt but at the end of the day it was money that i could afford to lose.

I just find it unfortunate that the crypto world attracts these types of people and yes you will say there are scammers everywhere in life, however on face value there appears to be a higher percentage in crypto circles. At least if my bank account gets hacked and money stolen i can rest easy that i will be reimbursed. This is a problem that needs to be looked at if Bitcoin has any chance of being successful.

I would agree. Well Virtual Currencies really are the wild west still. It's a lawless town so to speak and a lot of men carry guns. But there are honest people out there, and a lot of good people.

And yes a lot of very very dishonest people. I feel, and I am sure I'm not alone here; that it is sad to say that those who hold the largest sums of Bitcoin tend to be the ones who are the least honest and trustworthy. The exchanges that simply vanish. The Ninja Coins, the Gambling sites that claim to be "fair". These people operate under no rules, laws, or oversight.

But I find a lot of the people on this forum are great. I make deals and trades and sell things. I've sent BTC first and gotten my goods, and I've had people pay me first and I send the goods as promised. As anywhere, you have to be careful.

Or become a respectable fraction of the value of Bitcoin; forget becoming equal or surpass its value.

Its been six years, maybe 2000 odd me-toos. Is it time to give up? There is usually a time to stop trying on a new business ideas (or clone).

The simple thought I have is we really can't have an altcoin close to the value of bitcoin, why do we (as a community) continue to waste our time (and money/resources) with more and more new altcoins.

Please share your valuable thoughts.

Thanks

The only way an alt would ever surpass bitcoin would be if it offered something very unique that bitcoin doesn't and the benefits are obvious. This hasn't happened yet but it could. Only time will tell but I think bitcoin is safe for a while but for a new coin to surpass it I think someone will have to come up with something nobody has even thought of yet. Something revolutionary.

Or simply have the backing of say... a multi-billion dollar company.  That doesnt mean Bitcoin will die, it just won't go mainstream like people hope it will.

Added a response option per your request. If you feel I'm missing anything else feel free to let me know. I tried to cover the "big scenarios" - obviously the outcomes of any individual could be endless.

Strato

Thanks. Yeah, it's pretty hard to cover every possible answer.

I already voted:

"My journey has simply been a learning experience. I remained grounded, and can't say much has changed"

although, if I could, I'd change it to:

"My life is relatively the same, I have made small amounts of profit, and my relationships have remained as they were."

I hear you, i just don't want too many options - it may become confusing to answer. People can of course post in the thread their personal views. I think it will be interesting to see how this poll takes shape as it (hopefully) will receive 100s of votes so a general consensus can be seen.

Cheers,

I would say if you watch just one - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8RETFyDKcw0

He makes some very very strong points.

And he's donating most of his 50 Billion in Wealth to the Poor.

He alone could put BTC out of business by simply rolling out a funded new system with 10 Billion or 20 Billion in cash backing.

Just a thought,

There are coins worth more than bitcoin individually but not in marketcap and I doubt we ever will.

Thats very narrow thinking. Bitcoin only has a 3.6B Marketcap, which is financially speaking, very very small.  To say it's unlikely a virtual currency would not surpass it is the same thinking that AOL could never be surpassed, or Prodigy, or NetScape, during the dawn of the internet.

Tides change.

Strato

I guess so, I just believe bitcoin is what people will learn of and hear about and be content with using.

i don't mean this disrespectfully, sincerely, but you should really do some research, watch videos on youtube with the leaders in technology commenting on the future of Virtual Currencies. There is a strong consensus - while not all in harmony - that Bitcoin is very likely not staged to end up the winner in the VC race.

Bitcoin may very well in hindsight end up being nothing more than a testing ground for the technology and industry in and of itself.

Strato

All good, I think I will have a look now. Any suggestions on who to watch or something?

Here's just a few - others of course can add.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8RETFyDKcw0  Very Good - Really explains about the true possibilities.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRVJdO2WssQ  - Supportive

I would simply hit up youtube and search for Bitcoin. There are channels. I think the intereviews with Bill Gates have been interesting as he has in a way changed his position from Bitcoin positive to Bitcoin "Neutral/Other VC's will emerge". Theres so much content. Just search youtube and a lot will pop up.

Good idea for a poll.

But the voting options are not comprehensive.

"My life is relatively the same. My relationships are just as they were, and I have neither profited nor lost money."

What if the first part is correct, but I have profited/lost money?

I'll be posting, as requested, images of our clusters later today.

We're in the process of moving a bunch of our S3+ units out, and moving all of our S5 units onto 240v PDUs 60 Amp Circuits.

Is it possible to embed a youtube video inside of a forum thread? Please let me know if anyone knows the code to do so.

Thanks,

Anyone put a S5 in an S3 case (with the top) and then see how well a push/pull dual fan setup works?

Not to bump an old thread, but in my experience many miners are giving far to much though to push pull, water cooling, etc - for their S5 units.

The method outlined in my Guide on Vertical Positioning of your units with a simple box fan keeps 6 S5 Units within close proximity to one another, with a single fan each - all very cool, and overclocked at 392.50.

There are detailed diagrams in the thread found here:

Highly likely. Bill Gates has made some very interesting comments on Virtual Currencies. He's actually a strong supporter of them in fact, but believes strongly that Bitcoin lacks the security, ease of use, and has been in many ways tainted by bad press - all of which will result in a new contender to emerge.

Perhaps it already exists. His comments suggested that he believed that the final front runner would in fact be based on the Ripple/Bitcoin platform, but that the currency would not be Bitcoin as it is today.
