301  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 1080Ti Specific - Best mining option on: December 20, 2017, 06:52:58 PM
I have a FE and an Aorus.  The Aorus has to be in the bottom slot and the FE in the top slot.  The FE runs warmer now than it did when it was the only card in there.  Because of that I have to increase the fan up to 67% or more to keep temps in the low 60s.  It gets pretty loud above that.

For a while was looking to replace it and put something else in there that would run quieter.  Not sure it's worth it.  May just wait for the next GPU to come out from NVidia (volta?) and then replace it with one of those but without a blower style cooler.

The Aorus at stock settings produces about 250 kh/s more than the FE does at stock for reference.  lyra2z

We need a newb FAQ sticky we can just drop a link in for when questions like that come up.

WTM is over estimating for me. Thinks I should be seeing 0.25 production over 24 hrs. Reality is closer to 0.22.
304  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 1080Ti Specific - Best mining option on: December 20, 2017, 04:33:42 AM
OK folks. Here it is.

24 hr period. Mining pool hub. Zcoin. (2) 1080Ti. 6280 kh/s.  Djm miner.

Result: 0.22352 mined.

About 0.111 per GPU
305  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 1080Ti Specific - Best mining option on: December 19, 2017, 01:12:19 AM
Yah I dunno.  I have 2 1080ti / 6250 kh/s.

WTM says I should be making XZC 0.26/day.  I think it is over-estimating.  I set the power, difficulty, and pool fee variables correctly.

I'm going to write down the value before I sleep this evening and then check it again tomorrow same time.  Figure out exactly what it is really producing.

Not making excuses here.  I've wasted time with needless questions.  Who isn't guilty of that at one point or another.

I do think it is a person's responsibility to at least do a search of the forum and google before posting.  If they can't get the answer that way OK.

I appreciate the help I've gotten here particularly from Rashkae.
307  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 1080Ti Specific - Best mining option on: December 17, 2017, 03:39:07 PM
It`s ok. Mined about 2-3 days - hash rates changes, but at the end - i got XZC as WTM said.
You are saying that the XZC you earned were as expected per the miner client hash rate?  The website hash rate can be ignored?
308  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 1080Ti Specific - Best mining option on: December 17, 2017, 02:47:24 PM
What is the deal with mining pool hub showing much lower hash rates than the miner client?

Mining XZC and it is a 30% difference easily.

What is the best miner for lyra2 (XZC)?

The DJM version seems very popular.

For those of you who mine and live in the US are you concerned about the tax situation?

The IRS expects you to report mining production as income.  If you don't do it you are committing tax evasion.

The worst part to me is that the IRS wants you to claim the amount of income as what the payment was worth at the time it was made to your wallet.  Miners can get payments many times per day and the market fluctuates constantly.  How is someone supposed to possibly keep up with that?

Have you considered selling the Aorus and replacing it with a 2 slot 1080 Ti?  That would be less work then replacing your motherboard, new OS install and all that jazz.
Certainly have.  Doubtful it would solve the issue though since the system does work with just the aorus installed by itself.  So I know the aorus isn't defective.  Same thing for the FE - works by itself.

Anyhow I reset the BIOS back to defaults, adjusted a few settings, downgraded my NVidia driver, and changed mining clients. I'm throwing the kitchen sink at it now. I've already dealt with a power supply to eliminate that and I want to avoid a motherboard if I can. If it blows up on me again though I may be forced to give that a shot.  Not looking forward to all that work.  One benefit though would be upgrading to X370 and getting more features on the motherboard that way.

Temps on the GPUs never get over mid 60s btw.  So they aren't out of control hot.  The aorus actually runs in the low 50s.
311  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 1080Ti Specific - Best mining option on: December 16, 2017, 02:59:21 PM
Both my GPU tested fine when system has one installed but not both.  I replaced my power supply last night, put both cards back in, and the system rebooted from a bugcheck overnight.

Look like I need a motherboard?  Can the miner client or the nvidia driver cause problems like bugcheck reboots or system powering off?  It does this only with both GPU installed.

Your FE should be 2 slots....
Correct however if I put the FE in the top slot it has only about 1 slot room between it and the aorus below.  If I put the aorus in the top slot then there is no room at all between the aorus and the FE.  Not an optimal situation and is a motherboard layout issue.
312  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 1080Ti Specific - Best mining option on: December 15, 2017, 10:11:35 PM
Yah kinda figured it would be a problem especially with mining and running the GPU hard.

The problem is the motherboard has 3 slot spacing between the two GPU pci-e slots.  So the giant aorus will be crammed in there right next to each other.  Might be best to replace the motherboard.  Not much else you can do to gain physical space short of putting one card on an external riser somehow.

If I decide against this and keep the FE I'll have to get an accelero hybrid III in there and do something about the noise at least.
313  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 1080Ti Specific - Best mining option on: December 15, 2017, 08:59:48 PM
I have two 1080ti one is a FE one is an aorus.  I'd like to sell the FE and get an aorus.  Problem is the slot spacing is tight.  Both cards occupy 3 slots and so will be right next to each other.

I am assuming this means it will be a heat problem.  Has anyone tried this?  Case has good airflow does that help?
314  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 1080Ti Specific - Best mining option on: December 15, 2017, 03:27:51 AM
Corsair power supply goes in tomorrow and the other 1080ti back in with it.  If the computer continues to power itself off with the new psu then I guess I'll have a pretty nice seasonic titanium 850w for sale at that point.

Your card gonna die soon if you don`t set fan at 75% minimum.
Shoot I sure hope not I don't run the fans that high on my aorus and it coasts along at about 58c.  My FE on the other hand requires a good 75% fan speed to maintain 62-63c.  Wish I could spin it slower unfortunately unable due to the heat situation.

Ryzen any good at this?
316  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Newb observations.. on: December 14, 2017, 07:22:57 PM
I'm sticking with zcoin at the moment but am continuing research to see if it makes sense to switch.  Nobody has that crystal ball which tells them the winners and losers.  In some cases at least it's obvious when they are garbage.

Zcoin doesn't seem to fit into that category.  Nor do some of the other private currencies.  They appear to have at least some merit.  It can be difficult to predict what positives/negatives of each currency are going to create the winner or loser.  Or if there may be more than one winner/loser.

Interesting times.
317  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Newb observations.. on: December 14, 2017, 02:20:55 PM
After a couple weeks it seems we have a few different sorts of miners.

1)  Those that mine a particular type of coin, believe in it's worth, and that it will eventually increase in value substantially.  These are the "holders".

2)  Those that mine whatever is of the most profit at any given moment/day/week then frequently sell/convert it to something else.  The coin they mine may be a trashcoin - it doesn't matter to them one way or the other.

3)  Those that intentionally target trashcoins to mine/buy and attempt to pump/dump.

Have I got this figured out now or am I missing something?  Not trying to be judgmental btw.

Regarding those who fit into category 1.  It seems like one of the challenges here is to try and figure out, as a long term miner or investor, which currencies are going to be the good ones to hold onto.  For instance with privacy currencies there are several options out there that all have some merit one way or the other.  Will one eventually triumph out over the others?  Will there be room for more than one, two, etc. to flourish?  Who can say.

Currently I would place myself as a #1 however that may change as I read/learn more.  Would sure suck to mine a bunch of monero, zcash, etc. and hold it for a few years then have it do absolutely nothing in the long term.  I guess that is the risk those who are in it long term take.   Smiley
318  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How much longer will the 1080Ti be the king? on: December 14, 2017, 05:10:56 AM
I just started mining and added a second 1080ti. Mining zcoin thats it. Have been holding and not converting.

Apparently I have a lot to learn.
319  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 1080Ti Specific - Best mining option on: December 14, 2017, 04:46:12 AM
My stock clock FE gets 3050 kh/s with djm ccminer too.  Mining on mph. Seems a little slower than expected to me but not enough to be real concerned.
320  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 1080Ti Specific - Best mining option on: December 13, 2017, 01:57:53 PM
It`s really strange. U have good power supply and with such usage - u are using just about a half from it nominal power. But I don`t have any ideas, what else can doesnt work. Just to try different PCI ports at motherboard.
Both GPU test fine by themselves.  The system will mine 24/7 no problem with just one.

I have a power supply on the way to test with over the weekend.  If that doesn't solve the issue then not much else to try but replacing the motherboard.
