i hope they are aware that they cannot apply the usual CFD logic with bitcoin. unlike gold or big securities even modest amount of money can swing the price. someone should tell them before they get burned

i'm quite sure i was one of the earliest orders of local pickup and have recieved nothing.
313  Economy / Speculation / Re: Sell, sell, sell The hack of Bitcoin 2013 again on: March 08, 2013, 08:51:41 AM
the description of the hack sounded like an awful lot of work and risk for only 333 BTC. Where i live, you earn that easily in three months of honest work as a developer.
314  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: PrimeAsic - 80 Ghash/sec Asic Miner on: March 08, 2013, 08:39:14 AM
so i have called an apparently competent person at HRP.hu via phone.

he was hearing from me for the first time that this company lists his address on their homepage and he will be investigating it.

he has never heard of this brand. it is also very unlikey that they are using his company as a distributor because they only distribute for 7 big brands: dell, samsung, kyocera, star, hitachi, toshiba, asus.
my request was immediately escalated onto his boss who will make sure their brand is not damaged by a possible scammer.

current scam-o-meter: raised from 90% to 99,5%
315  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Ultimate blockchain compression w/ trust-free lite nodes on: March 08, 2013, 07:55:46 AM
The other thing is that we need some way of testing that randomly selected transactions in a block are spending an input that was in the uxto set (not spending coins from thin air), thats easy— except when they're spending txouts in the same block. Is there a way to accommodate that without requiring a separate by-output lookup against transactions in the blocks as a p2p message?

i would think there is an obvious, straightforward way.
lets say a node requests matching transactions from a different node who has already recieved the latest block, using bloom filtering.
if it has dependencies outside of the the UTXO, all parent transactions are also automatically provided until there are all included, even if they do not match the bloom filter.
if he would wait until the next block, the case becomes "trivial" again.

i would love to get a confirmation email for my local-pickup order, thanks Smiley

So I'll say it again:   please stop bitcoin proselytism.

i have to agree somewhat, though we are guily of some as well. we organize bitcoin meetups where interested people who happen to be in vienna can come and chat with us.
less evangelism = slower price rise = more bitcoins for us to accumulate before the inevitable happens and bitcoin becomes completely mainstream.
so to get rich, people, STOP actively promoting bitcoin.  Grin
(to be taken with a grain of salt, though i find "pushers" annoying, too no matter what they push. if an idea is good, it will grow from itself)
318  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: PrimeAsic - 80 Ghash/sec Asic Miner on: March 07, 2013, 08:17:55 PM
Just for the record did you pay already?  Maybe  pickup address is  given first and after you check the units you will proceed with payment. I am curious....
10X

no of course i did not pay already. i am not that "adventurous". after filling out the form you are just redirected to a thank-you page - which, after refreshing showed a different name than mine... not exactly super-professional.

still thinking its 90% scam propability, but my greed and curiosity is simply too strong.
319  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: PrimeAsic - 80 Ghash/sec Asic Miner on: March 07, 2013, 08:03:59 PM
i am willing to risk a drive down to budapest. its about 2.5 hours for me.

it could even evolve into a gorgeous bitcoin meetup down there, we should hang out in a pub and chat a little if anyone else is coming. it would also make sense to check out the devices together to see if they are really working. if we have power connection i could provide data roaming. the car with 220V does only provide 150 Watts of power Smiley

i ordered some units there with local pickup. it will be interesting to see if anything substantial comes from it. i still suspect scam, but i am willing to pleasantly suprised.
