Forum is down.  Here is a repeat of the content I wrote there.

Today, I have some MAJOR announcements concerning Makoto’s work. I have constantly said that he was in “meetings” and today I would like to give some information about some of those meetings.

You may have recently noticed that there was a press release stating Infoteria is working in partnership with Tech Bureau, an agency that Makoto is teamed with and uses NEM technology. Since their press release, they have had their stock increase $70,000,000. Infoteria connects over 5,000 Japanese businesses providing tech solutions for them.
http://www.prweb.com/releases/2015/12/prweb13122409.htm3
http://www.coindesk.com/press-releases/infoteria-private-blockchain-startu/4

And just today, a major bank in Japan has announced it too will be partnering to build on NEM and Mijin. For those of you who don’t know, Mijin is a private ledger version of NEM that has long been testing behind the scenes, and that uses the same APIs as NEM, so that companies using Mijin will also have easy access to the NEM main chain. The last announcement about Mijin over a month ago from the devs stated that it is running on 15 second blocks, with 100 tx/s very smoothly. It of course is also equipped with namespaces, mosaics, and messaging as well as NEM’s advanced security features and multisig 2.0.
Japanese: http://www.atmarkit.co.jp/ait/articles/1512/16/news121.html
English: http://www.coindesk.com/japan-bank-sbi-sumishin-blockchain-proof-of-concept/
German: http://www.wallstreet-online.de/nachricht/8207730-startup-dragonfly-fintech-revolutioniert-traditionelle-banking-loesungen1
Chinese: http://www.8btc.com/sbi-sumishin-blockchain

SBI is the largest online bank in Japan founded in 2007 (by much older companies) with over 2,000,000 customers, access at every convenience store in Japan, and 3.4 trillion yen (27 billion USD) in holdings. They are looking to use NEM’s blockchain technology and services built on top of it to expand their reach as a digital bank. https://www.sbigroup.co.jp/english/company/group/netbank.html3

Additionally, Tech Bureau and Sakura Internet have announced a partnership. Sakura Internet is a major provider of cloud service providers (think AWS but for Japan). Sakura is offering free 6 month service of Cloudchain’s from the Mijin system starting today for developers and businesses to test with additional special services being provided for financial services testing Mijin. http://bitcoinist.net/mijin-offering-blockchains-world-free/5

Since announcing this press release in 1.5 hours there stock trading was stopped as it reached its daily limit for increase.

So there is no direct correlation between mijin and NEM. They just use same API. or?

not as of yet (apart from partially shared codebase and therefore NEM will prob continue to profit from optimizations being made there)
Dragonfly however has direct correlation.
302  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: December 17, 2015, 08:00:15 AM
Could someone explain how Mijin ties in with Nem besides being from the same devs? and give an example of a real world case. tks

Yes, can someone comment on this.

Mijin appears to be getting good traction and interest.

For investors in NEM/XEM how does this benefit ... Makoto?

I'm not directly involved but here's what I understand.

First I'd like to point out that there have been several things in the media in the last days. Some pertaining to mijin, others pertaining to NEM and Dragonflypay.

Mijin - to my knowledge - has no immediate connection to NEM other than the API. The APIs are exactly the same. A company that uses mijin can use NEM without changing a line of code (API wise anyway, obviously throughput is different and therefore other code may need changing). Another thing to note is that part of the code base is - again, to my knowledge - the same. A lot of optimizations that are being done for mijin are also applied to NEM. So this is one way that NEM benefits immediately.  I'm sure makoto can expand on future plans and what relationship there could be between NEM and mijin.

Dragonflypay on the otherhand has immediate impact on NEM because it - afaik - uses NEM directly. Here's the press-release on what's been happening there and what that is http://www.reuters.com/article/dragonfly-fintech-idUSnPn1Ptv6F+91+PRN20151216

Actually, because the NEM and Mijin APIs are the same, it is great to have so many companies learning the API! Already 50 companies signed up for the test with Mijin, which is aimed at devs who can use the API. This will train a lot of people to work with our system.

Yes but realistically why would they switch from mijin to NEM once they implemented mijin ?

Well some of us see. The rest isn't able to decipher a single word.
Seriously everyone was going on about how important it was to translate everything to chinese but it seems it's totally normals now for some people to post links like this and the only context is "Nikkei". Who is that ? Why would anyone care ?

Yeah, I've tried to have it translated. I always do. Un-freaking-readable.

I'm not requesting to translate every article but maybe give some context and an eli5 ? Spoiler: "Nikkei talking abou us" is neither context nore an eli5.

First you said "...but independent Blockchains will die..." (maybe true and makes sense), than you said: "... ask yourself why someone would transact with NEM over Bitcoin, ETH, Nxt, etc...." (means eth, nxt, ETC !? is better than NEM? That´s  nonsense, because i ask myself why eth, nxt and etc are better than nem? Especially in this stage of development).  Or do I understand something wrong?

yes. he tries to tell us that we need to attach blockchain nem to blockchain btc. but we have much more the best blockchain than at btc therefore i wouldn't begin to attach on a place of devs blockchain nem to blockchain btc even if it is possible. i think that it's possible, but we it don't need to pull on ourselves a network which in future will die and us for itself will pull in a grave.

I'm not telling NEM to do anything, you can critique my posts all you want as a distraction from reality. I'm making reference to short term price/value over alternative crypto's (as a business would do in the current crypto landscape) and long term viability as it relates to relationship with Bitcoin. I'm just stating my opinion and what many probably feel in their gut. If you didn't own NEM, you wouldn't say it was destined for success.  I wish the team all the success, but I can see the writing on the wall.

I think NEM is making good progress!
Dont know what it is with the trolls!

LOL. Both the price and volume have been miserable. The project was launched like 2 years ago. Plus vast majority of coins are still in control by developers or reserved as future funds I fully expect prices will drop below 10 sat in 2016 as more coins are released

For my German Altcoinblog I have interviewed IOTA-CEO David Sønstebø aka iotatoken. I think this interview could be also very interesting for the English-Speaking Community so I created two versions:
English: https://altcoinspekulant.wordpress.com/2015/12/08/iota-interview-with-ceo-david-sonstebo-english-version/
German: https://altcoinspekulant.wordpress.com/2015/12/08/iota-interview-mit-ceo-david-sonstebo/

Yes, my English could be better, I know  Wink

Your german could be better too.

Quote: "Wird der Klient für IOTA"..

Klient in german and Client in english do not have equal meaning,
This word makes no sense whatsoever in this context.
This is so wired to read, please just use the normal english words, no need to "verdeutsch" everything.
same with "Bärenmarkt" and other things, I like reading your blog but this bugs me.
</rant>

good to see some publicity for IOTA tough!

I haven't read it yet but Bärenmarkt is totally normal. So is Klient actually but I agree that there would be better words to use in this context.
307  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: December 04, 2015, 07:26:01 AM
cryptocurrency xem will is very difficult to rise up as 3000 initial stakeholders have stake which costs more than 0.01 btc.

if each stake now cost 0.01 btc, it would be much easier to rise up. now we have a huge number of stakeholders which is what to sell and that they have in form of nemstake (2.25M xem) costs much more than 0.01 btc. therefore long still xem price won't rise. until to each stakeholders is what to sell price xem won't raise. it will be falling those stakeholders to which is what to sell at nemstake price much above than 0.01 btc won't end yet.

it was necessary to do distribution to bigger number of people. that nemstake initially didn't cost so much as now. if initial price expensive that of raise isn't. it was necessary to give so stakeholders that their nemstake cost 0.01 btc no more. so they would sell nemstake for small quantity not exceeding 0.01 btc still in beginning, and now there would be already raise of xem price. but instead we have to sit and wait every day a bottom now. this expectation a bottom if honestly already tires me every day.. Undecided

why you dont use google translater

I have a feeling he's already doing that. Sure looks like this was auto-translated (no offense).
308  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Qora | POS | Assets | Names | Polls | Automated Transactions | Social Network on: December 03, 2015, 06:53:03 PM
hello. i can upload in blockchain small file 139 kb? And how i can download his after 1-2 years?

You can upload arbitrary data into the namestorage of your name. So open your Qora client: In order to use the namestorage you need to register a name, if you don't have a name yet you can register one here (names must be lowercase!) http://127.0.0.1:9090/registername . After that browse to http://127.0.0.1:9090/index/namestorage.html . Choose your name from the dropdown menu. After that choose a key under which you will find the file later (e.g. myfile.txt). Use the browse button and choose your file and press upload. After that is done you need to press the submit button to upload it into blockchain and approve the security call. Keep in mind that there is a 50 transaction per batch restriction at the moment, so if your file exceeds that limit uploading it will be forbidden, so 139KB might be too much if it can't be compressed well.
Keep in mind that the namestorage is public so after uploading the file everyone will be able to download that file here http://127.0.0.1:9090/yourname/yourkey so you need to encrypt it yourself if you don't want others to read the content.

Can I read up somewhere on how exactly that storage works ?

Here is a common explanation:
What is NameStorage?
The NameStorage is basically a decentralized data storage that is tied to names that can be registered or bought through name exchange. The NameStorage allows the owner of the corresponding name to store arbitrary data (e.g. pictures, files) in the NameStorage. Only the owner of a name can change the corresponding NameStorage, but everyone can access the uploaded data in an easy way. The data is stored with the help of special arbitrary transactions that have the service number 10. The NameStorage itself is key/value based which means you store the data under a key which will be in most cases the name of the file.

Feel free to ask any more questions.

Thanks but I was talking about a more technical explanation:) Looking at the blockexplorer it seems they are simply stored as base64 though rigtht ?

Any chance to see wallet updates this year? mosaic ?

new release went to testnet yesterday. I'm guessing a new version of NIS (that includes mosaics) will be released soon but I really don't know.
311  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: December 03, 2015, 09:58:16 AM
Could you tell the status of the precious metal coins? Somehow I don't find newer information about it.

I figure it's not gonna happen soon since it would cost too much XEM with the current marketcap.

Why does it cost xem? the coins are mostly bought with BTC and NXT, or not? Did you buy XEM with all of the money?

The question is:
Will it be done at all? (I don't mind if later, but its more about ever...) If not, why are you still selling?
How many coins were bought yet and how much have to be bought, until it is possible.
How would a refund be made? Also if the market cap went down even further ...

Could you edit the prices in the threads as well or remove it? I mean:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=763938.0 -> 3.9 BTC for a gold coin, 0.18 BTC for silver
http://altnemo.com/ -> 10 BTC for a gold coin, 0.6 BTC for a silver - or 6,250,000 xem for gold, which is about 2 BTC now...
Asset exchange -> 230000NXT (=3.7BTC) for a gold Coin, 13000NXT (0,21BTC) of the issuer account

I sent my tokens to the issuer account and sent an email. When will I get a confirmation?

I don't know about the people who bought them on the AE. I was talking about the coins for the stakeholders. You'll have to ask makoto1337 about those coins.

However if you bought them you'll either get them or be refunded. There is no way makoto will scam you. I'll point him to your post.

313  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: have any of you even read the VNL whitepaper.... groundbreaking!!! on: November 24, 2015, 09:13:51 AM
fact:  VNL is using random ports with no noticeable side effects

Noticable being the keyword there. Allthough I'll admit that I don't see any problems with using random ports. I know a few other applications that do that and seem to manage just fine.

fact:  VNL does allow near instant respendable transfer of coins,  while not yet having one double spend accomplished

Thing is, has anyone every tried to double spend ? (I know there was a competition. Still...did anyone actually try?) It's always easy to say noone has done it so it must be secure but that's not really gonna cut it. Either backup claims with math and a proper whitepaper or many people will just not buy into it even if your tech actually works.

fact:  VNL has come through on every one of its promised updates.

Can't argue with that but - as others have pointed out - it doesn't really mean anything. Also are you really telling me that john connor is 100% trustworthy ? Come on !

So my direct response to the title of this thread: Why would anyone bother to read the whitepaper if john connor doesn't bother to write a proper whitepaper that actually backs up any of his claims ?
314  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: November 23, 2015, 07:27:34 AM
http://faucet.nem.io doesn't work again, probably (ca 2 days ago). Everything looks fine, but transaction is not finally multisigned and hangs in "pending mode" (and disappears after some deadline...1.5-2 days ?).

Fixed, NIS was "not available" again, servers are limited in resources and sometimes it's causing issues...

Thanks to donators Smiley

I do think we should question if giving out money to the same people repeatedly is really a worthwhile effort. Taking steps to prevent the same people from receiving handouts might be preferable.

That's definitely preferable.

37k for a mobile app?  Shocked Huh Well definitely want to see some real updates before I invest any further in NEM, this sounds a bit scammy and disappointing. I've red the White Paper and it was so beautifull, consistent and eloquent, but these kind of actions make me seriously doubt the intentions of the devs. Do they want to create a legimite worldwide economic blockchain platform, or do they just want to grab the money and gtfo?

Any big updates coming for NEM? When and what are they about?

What are you talking about ? You realize those 37k are for a thirdparty that is developing the app right ? As in a company where people work that develop apps for a living ?

Get real people...Some things cost money and like i said...it's not that much by comparison.

Okay so what's the app all about actually?

It's a mobile wallet.
-You can send, receive XEM (duh!).
-You can use it as 2FA for your wallet. I.e. have a multi-sig account and have one signatory in the app. So you can issue a tx from PC and then confirm it on mobile.
-QR export and import
-kind of an invoice system (also via QR)
-contacts

prob a bunch of other stuff I'm missing right now and obviously way more features planned (including mosaics).

Let me speed the conversation along...

Quote
Very basic features, this shouldn't be taking so long.

Yes, it has taken way longer than it should have. Noone is happy about that.

No ETA on release but everyone can join slack/telegram and become a tester

I still think it's way too expensive, for comparison, the Gulden devs started a whole company for only 1k in Gulden, they have lots and lots of updates free of charge, they built apps which you can use to pay everywhere where bitcoin is already accepted for only about 0.5 k, Just a mobile app for 37k sorry that is ridiculous in my opinion, I will not invest any further in this thing untill the first big real value projects are being released and I advise all others to take the same attitude, to me it sounds like a very risky enterprise...

Looking at the premine list of gulden the app is mentioned like 10k times and also seems to have been community funded. Not exactly for free either is it ?

https://developer.gulden.com/premine/

Have you ever been involved in getting an app developed for professional usage by customers ? I have, multiple times in the company I work for and that price is relatively reasonable.

Of course it's a risky enterprise.

now maybe i'm behind in all the goings on here, but is there a decision and breakdown of said decision on what the remaining coins are earmarked for?

i did see something on the nem forum, but yeah seemed unrealistic figures for such small time things as android wallets etc, so i guessed it wasn't a set in stone breakdown? ie why be in such a hurry to get rid of coins on projects and thus massively devalue xem?

This is the blog you are looking for to get you up to date. http://blog.nem.io/update-sustainability-fund-final-redemption-numbers/

We spent a lot of time trying to be very careful and transparent as possible as we planned this. There are links for the accounts that go to the block explorer.  The main account that has been spent from is the mobile/NCC fund of which more than half is left, and we have almost finished paying for the apps so the good news is our budget worked out fine and will be able to continue to support development after the apps are released.

On that note. A new iOS version was released today. Testing is going well.  It is now more about working out the last bugs and getting the final tweaks in at this point. It's been a long 9 months. Much longer than we first thought.

yes i've seen the breakdown, very surprising, the amounts given for each venture  Shocked  in my thinking significantly devalues the currency (not that giving it away, and much of that being gamed already didn't).

and why the hurry? like a global supply of currency should at minimum be kept funding the projects for a decade +.....if the goal is a usable global currency, and i would have thought the reason why there is so many billions of XEM is for that purpose?

i mean 329,599,242.98 XEM simply for a mobile app  Huh

also is the funds in each category going into the various developers pockets? so therefore simply to be dumped on the market in order to receive remuneration?

Jesus that greatly devalues xem. Not to mention yes it will be dumped and absolutely destroy the price.

Lets say they could sell it all at current price that would be $37000 for a mobile app? Absolutely rediculous. Xem is over this is the nail in the coffin.

Just shows that you have no idea how much something like that costs. I've seen WAY MORE expensive apps. It sounds a lot but it really isn't all that much. It should have been out months ago but that's about all the criticism one can have right now. The price is absolutely sensible.

Also the market situation is always being considered when XEM are sold. Noone is going to dump huge amounts to pay for somehing.

Pretty much all current public-key cryptography is done for.

PoW blockchain mining too. PoS/PoI/DPoS blockchains unaffected.

I guess those would be unaffected but those projects would still need to swtich from ecdsa to something else that is "quantum secure" for all their signing right ?
