301  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can Gambling affect your relationship? on: January 06, 2024, 11:59:06 PM
Gambling is still perceived as a thing of irresponsibility in my area, it has been a great deal over here. Once people around here notice that you are a gambler they start looking at you as someone who is not trustworthy to deal with. Despite the stories of people winning gambling has not really been accepted fully in my neighborhood.

It would be quite difficult to change the perception people in your locale have embraced over time. You wouldn’t fault them either as there are numerous cases abound of gamblers(most likely gambling addicts) displaying extreme reckless and blatant irresponsibility. As irresponsibility in an individual is clearly visible to all, people have for far too long seen and heard stories of gamblers and the problems that arose from being irresponsible.

It’s a long shot but you could try and with your actions and those of your responsible friends, start to change the mindset of people in your community that gamblers can also be responsible.
302  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Back after long hibernation! How to gain Merit !! on: January 06, 2024, 11:46:31 PM
Greetings! Good to see you awake and active after your long hibernation. I’ll assume you’re aware of the primary way members earn merit on here. By making a good enough post that could interest/educate someone else. You’ll find a good number of  people appreciate learning something new.
You mentioned getting into a signature campaign. Fresh from hibernation? Keeping aside the red tag on your profile which could thwart your chances, it won’t be so easy getting accepted as you’re just waking up. Engage members in intelligent/ informative discussions and generally get active.

Sadly, the tags on your profile aren’t reassuring either.
303  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Are successful gamblers seen as addicts? on: January 06, 2024, 11:25:15 PM

if you can deal well with something that is hard and maybe addictive, if it makes you happy and you make money and it's not a problem for you... is it an addiction?
that's a really interesting topic that can get quite deep, I'd be curious to hear more people's opinions on this

what do you think?

If you can deal well with whatever activity it is you’re doing despite it having a good chance of becoming an addiction, then you’re still safe.
You make enough money to comfortably sustain your habits and fulfill your desires and it’s not causing any problems for you(yet). It’s not an addiction. An addiction would almost certainly bring problems into your life as your life is now controlled by that activity.

I think the scenario you described is how everyone likely starts out. But along the way, a lot divert the towards the addiction way and get lost making it difficult to find their way back.
304  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Are you willing to bet $50 spin for a chance to win $42 million? on: January 06, 2024, 10:56:47 PM

So let's discuss. This kind of win can be compelete considered based on luck, and the winner is so lucky that he hit the Jackpot. However, since the goal here is $42 million and you can only win that if you would bet $50 for one spin. So, do you have the courage to do that?

You’ve got to be damn lucky to win $42 million playing with 50 bucks. It’s a long shot but I think if I’ve got enough to comfortably let go of $50, I might just give it a try.

Ordinarily, I wouldn’t play as the odds of winning is slim and almost nonexistent. With very little chance of winning, I wouldn’t bother playing.
If I’ve got enough money to comfortably have a few spins, I wouldn’t think much of the outcome as it’s obvious the odds of winning is really slim. I’m pretty sure we’ve got a lot of average income earners willing to spin, perhaps multiple times too, hoping to be lucky and end up losing a few hundred dollars.
305  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [A POLL] Without Chances of Making Money, Will you still be gambling? on: January 05, 2024, 01:19:34 PM
So, one question I want to ask is, if games were built to be played with money on casinos like we do now, with absolutely no chances of making money even when you win a game, would you still be spending money playing this games or betting on sports games?

I can’t say about others but I wouldn’t gamble if there wasn’t some sort of reward to be won later on. I thought that was what gambling is all about. The possibility to win some sort of prize is what pushes a lot of people to actually gamble.
I think I might actually pay a small token if I’m so in love with a particular game but I wouldn’t be playing as frequently as when it was free, that’s for sure. As for sports betting like football games, I’m not sure I’ll be betting any amount if there wasn’t a slight chance of winning a reward later on.
306  Economy / Economics / Re: Habits that can lead to your financial failure in 2024 on: January 05, 2024, 11:16:48 AM
Procrastination is an enemy to success, this habit is a bad one that can make one not to even take a step in life. Procrastinatng will alwsys  make you feel as if their is time for you to start up. I know it is never late to go after a project but it is worse when one knows the right thing to do but posting it, for it to be done later, with is habit it can't be possible for one to achieve success.

Someone who procrastinates would create hurdles later on in his life that may be then, quite difficult to jump. It’s always best to do what you need to do at the right time and be done with it than to lazily shift it to a later date. I’ve had to deal with procrastination myself as I was once fond of putting away things that needed done to a later date. It just piles up all things that needs to be done and causes problems later on.

One that procrastinates cannot keep a schedule and is therefore likely to miss out on some opportunities but I’d like to think opportunities comes not once but repeatedly to the life of a person.
307  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What thread can earn newcomers merit on: January 05, 2024, 09:36:22 AM
We all know the beginning stage is not easy as a newcomer needs to be patient. Atleast he or she should be getting no matter how little some reward for their resources in terms of time and materials.
I joined the forum and all I told some people around me about it, the next question is," how much have u earned", I was absolutely discourage as I remained mute till date.

I’m curious on why you feel discouraged. If you came on here primarily to gain new knowledge about bitcoin, then there’s no reason for you to feel discouraged irrespective of your rank.
But reading through your topic, it doesn’t seem to me like you’re here for the knowledge and that’s why you feel discouraged. Also, no one has a gun to your head forcing you to spend your time on the forum, so having high expectations of a reward perhaps in form of merits is on you.

It’s faster to get merits if you actually take your precious time to learn a thing or two. Members are eager to help newbies in terms of learning and also merits.
308  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you care about what people say about you gambling? on: January 05, 2024, 08:49:47 AM
Gambling is considered a bad thing in the eyes of society so when someone finds out about your gambling, they will definitely criticize you. So of course you have to take care of these things and you have to be better in their eyes to stop criticizing you. Because respect is very important for a person and gambling destroys people's respect. So you should always try to keep your gambling a secret so that no one can criticize you. So I personally care if anyone is talking about my gambling

Not all society is the same and as gambling could be considered a bad thing in some society, it’s normal in others. I can understand wanting to keep your gambling activity a secret when you’re living in a society that frowns at gambling and sees it as a bad thing to indulge in.
I try to keep my activities private but I wouldn’t keep my gambling activity secret just because the society would think bad of me. Their opinions doesn’t and wouldn’t change so someone is so why listen and let their opinions have a say in our lives?

If you gamble and appear and behave responsible, it could begin to change the mindset people may have had about gamblers being only irresponsible and broke.

309  Economy / Economics / Re: First time? A company suing because people aren't buying its products!!! on: January 05, 2024, 08:11:51 AM
Read through the article provided and the company isn’t exactly suing people for refusing to buy their products(I think such a lawsuit would be absurd).
I think this shows again how the collective efforts of humans having one mindset can go a long way. McDonald’s has a net worth of $212 billion so a $1.3 million loss may look like a negligible amount but it did get them riled up enough to make a move against the pressure groups that’s hindering their profits.

I wouldn’t fault people for not buying from companies that donates to a country that’s trying to crush their enemies and indiscriminately killing scores of innocent people in the process.
310  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Who among you here is gambling at work? on: January 04, 2024, 11:01:50 PM
I know that it depends a lot from kind of work, but I dont admire working at work. Even if a person is good at multitasking, employer did not hire employee for gambling. If a person has free time to gamble at work, that means that person hasnt done his tasks fully. Even if I have a free time at work, I would rather help my collegue, than gamble at work.

Gambling at work in my opinion, is not a sign of one that’s serious in his duties. The undeniable fact that you’re being paid for the hours you’re at work should be enough to keep aside hobbies and leisure activities and be focused on the task you’re employed and being paid for. There’s a time and a place for everything and the workplace is no place for gambling. Except of course, you work in a casino Lol.
It would pay much more to divert your focus on how to be innovative to be more productive at work. That way, you’ll earn more money to comfortably fund your lifestyle.
311  Economy / Economics / Re: Setting up financial structures before going into the family way on: January 04, 2024, 09:37:03 PM
it's easy to tame your children to behave a certain way but if you lack the financial resource to taking care of your family

Children aren’t wild animals that we tame to behave a certain way. It’s also very possible to not be financially stable and yet train up your child to be morally upright. I’m not downplaying the importance of money in our lives, as we all know how important money is. But everything shouldn’t necessarily be about money.

Being financially buoyant in marriage will even help you love your partner better so try and use your head.

Admittedly, money is needed to properly take care of your spouse and later on, your kids in your family. But one thing I’m sure of is that money doesn’t guarantee love and happiness in a relationship between two adults. It may help it along but it certainly doesn’t guarantee its success. A lot of wealthy couples today look perfect to the ignorant onlooker but is shaky and hanging on by a thread.
312  Economy / Economics / Re: How to gain money on: January 04, 2024, 06:10:12 PM
Without:
Charity, begging, illegal, stocks, trading.

You can get a job like most people if you don’t want to earn money through the routes you have already mentioned. Although I don’t see anything wrong in making some money from trading stocks.
You didn’t mention if you had a skill that you could also render your services to people for money. That’s one good way to earn some money and in your own time too.
With trading, I’ll assume you meant buying and selling as a business. I think there’s real estate as a viable option to make some money as well without having to have a skill that would bring in money.
313  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you believe in gambling experts predictions? on: January 04, 2024, 02:15:21 PM
Lot of young gamblers who tensed to believe these gambling prediction experts are submissive to them regarding their age differences.
In my localities, the younger ones cordially respects the old aged gamblers by finding them to be gambling professionals who is concious not to mislead the public by not telling lies due to an ancient believe that old people doesn't tell lies.

I can understand younger gamblers thinking older gamblers, having had more years of experience gambling should be more knowledgeable and could be mistaken for someone who could accurately predict winning games.
I also could understand respecting the elderly gamblers but thinking and giving them respects on the basis that they could tell no lies is purely wrong. Elderly gamblers could also be misleading, sometimes unintentionally.
Literally everyone that breathes is capable of lying, including elderly people and that ancient belief should be eradicated. It’s all good and fine to show respect to everyone.
314  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbies are not Scums.... Learning is a Process and it's progressive. on: January 04, 2024, 01:04:59 PM
I don’t think anyone belittles newbies just cause they’re newbies. And as we’re all anonymous on here, members mostly form an opinion of someone else from how and what they write. I know I do.
Perhaps the “belittling” you speak about has less to do with the newbie rank and more to do with what information is passed and how it’s passed. I know cause I was once a newbie and wasn’t belittled by anyone.

You do know no one owes you any respect nor to be nice in our interactions. While the majority of users recognize the value of and tend to be respectful in their interactions, there are some who say things as it is and wouldn’t mince words to make you feel better. It’s better to learn from any/all criticisms and learn not to take things personally.
Newbies aren’t scums. At some point in time, we all were newbies on here.
315  Economy / Economics / Re: Pay discrimination on: January 04, 2024, 12:22:24 PM

It's sometimes sad to see how they are treated disrespectfully, be it a waiter, delivery workers, cab drivers, carpenter, or construction workers as they are the pillars and without them things will start falling apart. I know some of these can be automated but not everything.

Yes, it’s quite sad seeing how people treat public service workers with disrespect and disdain but we’ve got different types of people and unfortunately, not everyone would be kind, fair and understanding. But these service workers, although important in our society are as much pillars in the society as any other occupation. Would things fall apart without them? Probably not.

About pay differences, it’s only normal to be paid according to the services you provide. If you’re exceptional in your field, you would be paid accordingly. It’s only fair in my opinion.
316  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Never gamble in front of your kids. on: January 04, 2024, 11:26:48 AM
That is a correct approach - giving explanation. Btw, easiest way to make kid not doing something is to not focus on that itself. If someone is afraid that the kid will get addicted from watching you gamble, so you try hiding act of gambling - stop focusing on that. If kid sees your show little interest, he wont get much curious. Why hiding act of gambling is stupid or we should not pay much attention to never gambling in front of kids - they will learn it from friends, school, YouTube. They will learn gambling without parents even knowing. So the best way to minimize possible negative consequences - let them be already prepared for that.

I agree. The easiest way to get kids uninterested in something is to show little interest in that thing yourself. If a parent hides away his gambling habit or any hobby irrespective of what it is, and is later found out by his kids, it could likely pique the interest of the kids even more. And they would then learn more about it via other sources while it would have been best taught by their parents.
Kids would always want to learn more about what they get interested in and who better than the parents to guide them right. Parents also has a duty in the primary education of their kids.
317  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: January 04, 2024, 10:44:50 AM
I think Arsenal could be one of the top four teams in the league, but I know Arsenal's goal is more than the top four. That's why Arsenal is still racing for the title. Together with a quality striker, they will increase their chances of achieving this. The league title is very important for Arsenal because they have been trying to get it for years.

Arsenal would most likely be amongst the top four teams when the current season ends. And yes, their aim is much more than just finishing amongst the top four. Last season, they played well but sadly couldn’t maintain the lead and fell behind, giving Manchester City the lead and ultimately the EPL title last season.
They’ve been somewhat inconsistent in their performances and have lost out on some games that they would have ordinarily had won. They still have a shot at the title but they do need to step up in their efforts. I do think they’ve got the right players  to get them where they need to be. The top of the table.
318  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: January 03, 2024, 11:57:43 PM
2. Arsenal is a club which can be at the top of the league and later give up two weeks to end of the season.
For these two reasons, I do not trust Arsenal with the English premier League title. They can comfortably compete for the top 4 but I do not trust them to win

This was what I had thought would be the outcome. I had thought Arsenal would play really well and gather up points that would give them the lead in the league table. Then they would start losing focus and begin to lose and draw their games losing points until a team like Manchester City, (who I still think has a good chance of winning the league title again this season) would overtake them on the table.
About trusting them to win the league title, I’m not so sure. What I’m sure though, is they’re probably going to finish amongst the top four in the league table.
319  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The is always on gambling, never the individual. on: January 03, 2024, 11:35:41 PM
Personal responsibility is a trait that people seem to have lost. People find it easier to deal with their problems if it’s the fault of someone else. It’s almost like they’re looking for someone or something to share the fault with.
It could be said that gambling wrecks lives. But sadly, it’s mostly us that allows our gambling activities to wreck our lives. It could also be said that gambling has changed the lives of people positively.

It’s the choices we take that matters. And people don’t seem to want to be more responsible for their actions and behavior that would obviously tell on their lives.
Admittedly, gambling ruins lives. But it’s our actions that we do that leads to financial ruin. We’ve only got ourselves to blame when ruined by gambling or any activity.
320  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Should mentally unstable people be allowed to gamble? on: January 03, 2024, 11:10:35 PM
I like your explanation that he should be stopped if there are any signs of misbehaviour. But I am really scared at this point because I have seen some mentally unstable people react in a violent manner that leads to serious injuries to some people. You might think they behave normally or are harmless but I have observed that mental illnesses can increase if the sufferer does not have access to proper medical attention.  As much as everyone is free to gamble, such people have to be properly observed because there might be a sudden change in their behaviour. The management of the gambling houses or casinos should give more priority to the safety of gamblers than profit.

The management of the gambling house should give more priority to the safety of gamblers than profit. Sadly, the casinos would always prioritize profits than anything else and in the scenario you mentioned, would continue to allow the mentally unstable man to play as long as he doesn’t disturb others from doing same.
They need profits and would allow anyone that is reasonable enough and has money to play. That’s they way with profit oriented organizations like these. They couldn’t care less on who’s handing over the money as long as the money is handed over.
